Great stay. Could do with some soap in the rooms though

The staff was impolite. Unfortunately, not all and some of the employees were really nice, but the first meet with a man was unwelcome. The room wasn't bad. The problem was that the heater didn't work and the window couldn't be closed, so it was cold in the winter. The next day we were informed that the heater work after 6 o'clock, but it still didn't work. An unpleasant experience. Then we chose another hotel.

Great location at a bargain price. Room is a bit old and missing shampoo, conditioner or bodywash. Noise levels are quite bad outside so bring a noise cancelling ear bud or ear plug

A very nice place. Close to the center/harbour. A lot of excursions include the hotel in their pick up schedule. The room was a bit small, but were there for only 2 nights. A big kitchen and hang out zone. The staff on reception was very helpful with our airport shuttle booking.

Good, clean accommodations. Room was well appointed. Location in the city was ideal. Temperature was very difficult to control for an American accustomed to air conditioning though. The small fan provided just didn't allow for enough air flow. The large kitchen / lounge area in the basement was very nice.

The place was a great location, clean. The maids did not clean our room. Just put one clean towel for two people. It needed vacuuming too. The bed was really comfortable compared to the last and first hostel I stayed in Tahiti. The staff, Brandon, was very helpful when we checked in. He gets 5 stars!

Only stayed for one night but it was perfect for what we needed! Would definitely look at staying again. It's a bit of a walk to the city centre but it's not too bad! Loved having a fan available in the room with the weather Auckland has been having. Only downside was there were no complimentary toiletries (except towels) available in the room.

Love this place. Well equipped and spacious kitchen, big TV screen in common area, table tennis table, sofas to chill, dinning tables for groups to meal together, Outside areas for beer, Food & drinks vending machines All facilities are clean. Helpful & friendly staffs. U can even borrow a adapter if u forgot to bring.I got to buy that when I stay with another hotel later of that trip

City Lodge is a good decent and cheap hotel in the center of Auckland. Compared to other accomodations in the center and their prices you get quite a good value for money here. Rooms are clean. And the staff is nice and helpful. Do not expect a big room though. It is rather cramped.

Unassumingly, not definable as either hostel or hotel. Probably because they’re both. Room was small but clean. At the time of our stay (mid January 2020) construction works were ongoing next door, so we woke up early. The complimentary coffee/tea in the room is nice.

I really love it here. It's clean throughout. All the necessary equipment in the kitchen & laundry. In the bathroom they ask you to use the eco soap, this is on the outside of the shower!! It took me a while to work out that I needed to put the soap on first. Then turning the shower on to wash it off!! Maybe I'm just a bit daft. Anyway I got there in the end. It uses less water this way as well. The only difficulty we had was there are no shelves around the bed, for reading glasses or books etc. No hooks anywhere for dressing gowns, coats. There is a wardrobe. I would recommend this hotel.

The reception staff was friendly and helpful. The room was the right size (small and basic) for a very short trip. Had to ask for toiletries and purchase internet. The bed was not the most comfortable either. But the noise was not that bad considering it is frequented by back packers.

Positives: neat, affordable, adequate single room. Staff were friendly. Close to Queen Str and eateries. Negetives: BRING EAR PLUGS!! The single-glazed windows failed to filter out the continuous city noise. I was constantly woken by vehicle hoots, tire screeches and sirens and more so by the screams, shrieks and yells of inconsiderate people out on the streets. This was for all hours of the night and early morning. Definitely not well rested after 2 nights of poor sleep.

Excellent staff :) Had them help me out with a birthday surprise and they definitely came through. Room was very clean. If you're after large floor spaces, this may not be for you, but it was perfect for us. We got the triple room and fit comfortably. The lodge is also situated in a realy good location if you want to walk around Central Auckland. Complaint: wish there was a place inside the shower I could put my shampoo bottle and bar of soap on. Other than that, very happy with this place!

We stayed for a couple of days in a double room. The room was small but clean. Downside is the missing air conditioning. As you can't open the windows proberly there is no way to get fresh or slightly cooler air into your room. The fan didn't really help either. However, we enjoyed out stay and the Staff was very friendly and helpful. City Lodge is in walking distance to lots of restaurants and bars. If you don't like walking, the inner circle bus departs just around the corner and gets you to downtown/harbour within a few minutes. Also, they offer a fixed taxi rate to the airport which is very convenient when travelling with a lot of luggage.

Run by nearby YMCA big kitchen and lounge area if you need to cook your own food and socialise. Single room I stayed was spacious and windows for natural light. Only down side would be having fixed shower head. Staffs were nice and professional.

There is construction going on next to the hotel, which makes it very noisey early in the morning. Good if you want cheap accommodation.

Compared to other hotels in Auckland, it was worth the price. The interior of the rooms looks not so modern but it was decently clean and they provided enough towels. The en-suite bathrooms are a must for any hotel so it is good they exist here. The downside is that the walls are pretty thin and you can hear people talking in the next room, which can be very annoying if they decide to talk all night long... Also they only provide frozen meals on demand, so don't expect good food here, but luckily it's not far to Karangahape road which has all kinds of restaurants.

Staff were very friendly and accommodating, other guests were also nice and the place has a relaxed atmosphere. It's also cheap and in a good location. Parking is limited but we managed to make it work. I would stay here again.

Stayed here for two nights. The room was too cramped and was not a very comfortable place for the price paid. The prices for two nights I stayed was different for the same room. Very small cramped bathroom. Even after paying for the room, you have to pay additional if you need WiFi. The rooms doesn't have air conditioning. It's very much of a backpaker place. Only difference is you don't sleep in a dormitory. If you choose to stay here, consider another option or just book the dormitory. I didn't use the kitchen facility as I didn't have time. The staffs we're friendly.

I had the opportunity to stay here this year. You are taken care of from the beginning till the end. I met great ***y friendly people. A perfect location for our needs whilst visiting the city. All in all a good hotel in a good location with great transport connections.

Stayed overnight here in April (with my 17 year old) to attend a concert a Spark Arena. Great location enabled us to experience the city and make our return trip to the concert venue on foot. Excellent value for money. Our room was clean and functional, equipped with a kettle, tea and coffee and separate bathroom. Definitely feels like a well kept secret in a bustling metropolis. Staff on front desk were friendly and helpful and I would thoroughly recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to stay while visiting Auckland City. Will absolutely stay here again in the future. Thank you!

I have been there twice: nice rooms, mostly clean and friendly staff. The kitchen has all things you need for cooking. But definitely not the cheapest accommodation.

Compact and basic. Comfy, airy, bright and cheery. Great shower pressure and hot water. All you could want to rest weary bones. Freshly decorated. Lovely staff.

Good last minutes deals through booking .com , iv stayed here five times and the room is always clean and staff are polite. Will stay again next week

Very comfortable surroundings and very very clean. We were surprised at the great standard for a backpacker accommodation. Our fridge froze and so ruined some food we had brought, but the fridge was replaced as soon as we made staff aware.

$77 room 4me and partner no soup 2 wash our hands no jug 4 coffee or tea booked n 4 to nights $152..our last stay here we had all of the above..we stayed 4 6 days then but feel different this time around tho..

The place was really resourceful offering a place downstairs for self catering. Very friend staff. But I went outside from the basement and didn't know how to get back in. I think they could use instructions for such tricky things.

Fairly good accommodation at a good price but no AC which can really ruin your night if it's a warm day. Other than that, it's not a bad place to get some sleep.

Everything is great for backpackers! The room is v clean and there is even a lounge for tv (there is alr a tv in the room), common kitchen pool table, pinball arcade and vending machines for drinks (there are free tea bags in the room already) and snacks anytime! Only thing is the limited parking space. Only seven and very cramp so you hope you get the best lot ;)

Clean and cozy room. There is lifts but abit slow. Receptionist is good. Parking by the roadside is by luck and u may need to pay from 8am - 6pm.

Allowed early check in ( but after 90 minutes of my arrival).My room demands were met (higher floor and facing Auckland tower). Paid 5 New Zealand $ for 500mb which lasted for about 3h (actually I never used more than 50mb .. weird. Bought another package (same) , used it for about 19h and still I had 400mb of unused data. Location is very good, but steep when coming back. Supermarket just in front of the hotel. No soap and shampoo in my room, but they fill it after complaining. Soft bed ,one pillow, room windows really hard to close. TV does have local channels only. Towels one small and one big. Asked for a late check out and they gave me till 11am. Airport bus station about 15 minutes away from hotel . Was there for 2 nights from 14 to 16 May.

A nice hotel/lodge close to the city center. We have visited it several times, one time during Halloween, that was fun. The rooms are clean and the people friendly.

It is true the small single rooms can be uncomfortable, as the bed is too narrow and is unstable, to a degree you can counter this by angling the mattress slightly like an aircraft carrier flight deck. The basic double standard for about $420 a week is good value as you get a basic ensuite, and a good double bed and a large variety of freeview, including repeat news and parliament. The basement kitchen and lounge has 40 channel sky, everything including Fox and RT, all music and sports channels but no film channels and everybody from the Middle East to Austin only watches ESPN most of the time anyway. . Generally city lodge drys most of its clientle from specific groups. Middle East students, Brazilian, French and Italians 20 yr old couples for similar reasons such groupings go to base. You might also finds a few English, a few Germans, odd Australians and sometimes groups of Texan college students. It can be a radical cultural challenge in the lounge with women in full burkas with their minders and good looking US students. A lot of the congregation and socialising of the Europeans and South Americans is in the area of the outside courtyard opposite the Grey road council flats, after the lounge closes about 10.30pm. The better features is that 7 nights here usually cost 5 nights tariff. Best service is more likely to be achieved 8am to 4pm because a full variety of office staff are on hand.

Small but clean and quiet rooms in the heart of the city without the big costs. Lots of younger travellers too so good vibe.
