Friendly staff and they offer late check-in which was a lifesaver for me. Very affordable and great showers - I really appreciated this! No on-site parking but street parking is available until 9.30am and directly across the road is a paid parking lot, so not too difficult. My room was right next to the highway and even with earplugs, my sleep was terrible - every passing truck shook the room at all hours of the night. The curtains are pretty bad too, the sun shone right through waking me at 5.30 am - get some thicker material for curtains perhaps? Room was clean and tidy, as were the bathrooms.

Great hostel! Very clean, spacious rooms, good common area (Apple TV/Netflix), and so close to CBD. Honestly I've stayed in a few hostels in the area and this one is definitely 100x better. I'm planning to return when I'm back in Auckland, and would recommend to anyone thinking about staying.
D.
We stay here for a week in a private twin room. We totally love it! Clean room and restrooms. Showers were spacious and have hooks for clothing and towels. Kitchen was clean and common area was nice. The staff was really friendly and helpful. They also have a patio we’re u can go and enjoy the weather as well if u get wine/beer you can drink it there. The only thing is the WiFi, sometimes u can connect sometimes not.

Stayed at Grafton House for a few months. Great view of the Sky Tower and Rangitoto from the window of the room. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Beds are super comfy and the bathrooms are nicer than many I've seen in hostels. Also a great place to socialise and meet new people without being to loud to disturb you from sleeping during the night. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to stay in a hostel in Auckland.
J.
Awesome to stay. Very tidy (and the staff is super friendly. It's 15 min walk in the city centre. I really recommend to stay there - its the best hostel I visited in Auckland (out of 4).
B.
Friendly helpful staff. Nice overall atmosphere.
T.
Went there in February, it wasn't too crowded.
There were enough showers, they are a bit small, but totally functional. Toilets were also OK.
Both check in and check out were easy with a very nice and helpful staff.
There were a few bugs in the not very clean kitchen, but nothing too crazy
T.
Kitchen was small, and some irresponsible people left their utensils lying around. No one tidies it sometimes. Saw two baby cockroaches in the dining area. Rooms were okay. Toilets a bit small but functional.
I.
Really clean and modern hostel. I enjoyed my first night and will stay longer. Staff is absolutely friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hostel!!! 👌👌👌
G.
Best place to stay great staff friendly atmosphere good people clean. safe tucked away just top of cbd and bonus cheap too. Thank you will be staying again
E.
FREE WIFI!! WiFi is a rare pleasure in New Zealand, and this place has it. Booked my stay for two weeks, had no issues at any time. Really enjoyed my stay. Friendly staff, and convenient location. From the airport take the Skybus to the 157 Symonds St. stop.
A.
Friendly and helpful staff with decent location ( 25 min walk to CBD and 20 min walk to mt.eden)
Rooms are small and smell like sweat but the bathrooms are super clean and the bar is super cute and lounge is nice
k.
Many people living there .. 100/150 always.. so it's no too clean and ordered. Very complicated for using kitchen but In the other hand cheap and quiet for sleep well.(depends your room I been in 4p room) 3rd floor just by stairs.
e.
A typical well equipped backpacker that has rules only for what concernes earning money, no matter in how bad this can affect other guests. Still, very clean, quite cheap and close enough to the center.
J.
Nice place but the kitchen is really small. Nice and big showers one the first floor
l.
The perfect hostel, just a block away from all the action in the city centre. A great crowd staying here with fab receptionists Emma, Phillip, Thea & Kevin running the joint. Whether you’re after a good time or a cosy place to have a few quiet nights to yourself, this is the place to be.
E.
Our flight wasn't until the late evening and were allowed use of all facilities including showers and kitchen after our departure. This was very much appreciated.
C.
A bit stuffy due to fire regulations to have all doors closed and no windows for fresh air. No ideal space to handle luggage in sleeping pod rooms without desturbing other guests. Place is very neat and tidy with good house rules.
E.
Nice central location with K Road and Queen Street only a short walk away. The rooms are a good size and there are a few different room types you can book which is great. If you're wanting to stay in a dorm room but have a bit more privacy the POD rooms are great for that as they are enclosed wooden bunks with a curtain that you can close with a light and plug socket. Bathrooms are nice and clean - the ones on level 1 are nice and spacious. Great atmosphere at the hostel, it is easy to mingle with other guests in the common area and decking area. Definitely worth staying here!

So... this is a hard review to write. This place had some bad stuff and some good stuff.
Firstly, I think it's cheaper on average than what you can find in the area. Secondly, it's at walking distance to everywhere. The staff is kind and works hard. They are renovating parts of the hostel to make it better.
Now, for the bad, the showers on the 2nd floor lack good pressure. You don't get towels nor is there shampoo, conditioning or soap offered so make sure to bring your own. People can be friendly and some just mind their own business.
I think it's a generally good place to stay if you're up to the cons (which aren't that bad).
F.
Is a great place to stay while you visit the city. The whole compound is very comfortable and tidy. People are very friendly
M.
Good value hostel that's not so overfilled. There were bugs in the kitchen like there are in every hostel but the rooms were tidy.
M.
I recommend that everyone books direct with the hostel via their website. It's simple, quick and cheaper than using other booking sites. The communication from the hostel leading up to the date was great. I wasn't able to make check in for rec hours, so key and instructions were left for me.
Some of the toilets and showers are great, clean and recently reno'ed. I'm in an 8 bed mixed bunk room at the moment, that is the only conn. There isn't much space for bags, no where near enough lockers and the bed frames are very noisy. HOWEVER this being said, I've paid a very competitive price. So this is to be accepted. The other thing to note would be that the kitchen needs more fridges as they were very full and at peak times.
3 star review as WiFi is proving to be slightly, unreliable and they need to get a pest controller out into the kitchen.
J.
Good hostel. The only thing is that the lift is out of order and it seems that its been like that for years.
M.
Cool place , cheap, rooms are always full. Great access to the center , close to Queen St
L.
Friendly staff, good downstairs area for cooking and hanging out a decent sized rooms
G.
Great Backpackers.. Great staff. Varied accommodations.. Good Location
D.
Room had no windows, but comfy bed and air con (I think). Good price at $58 for a double. The kitchen seemed clean, but on closer inspection it was full of insects! :(
S.
Staff were rude. Room had no windows. Facilties were fine and clean.
A.
Spacious and tidy rooms with great internet connection! The bathrooms are kept clean and fresh.
T.
Small kitchen, $20 key deposit & no alcohol allowed in the building. Bed creeked, but was comfortable enough. Would recommend ear plugs as the street traffic can be a little disturbing.
j.
Clean, Tidy, Great Value for Money, Friendly Staff and you wont get a better location for Auckland Nite Life without being too noisy
J.
Contra:
- Feel like sleeping in an office
- Cooling system can be very loud and too cold (depending on the room)
- Showers aren't that fine but they work on it as we stayed there
Pro:
- You can walk to downtown, Mount Eden and many more central areas
- Prices are good compared to other hostels (30$ double room bed, 25$ 8 dorm bed)
- Kitchen is nice and not too old
- free WiFi 24/7, but useless in the afternoon and evening cause everyone is in it
S.
Staff were friendly, they have got this nice deck on the ground floor for drinking and smoking through the night.
Kitchen is fully furnished but feels a little rather cramped for the number of people they can hold here. They could do better here, as stench and cockroaches were noticable.
In the vacinity there are a vairety of takeouts, marts. Also, an alcohol shop that closes at 11pm. very convenient :)
Plenty of toilets/shower, never had to wait. But some do not have racks/hooks to place your stuff.
Accom is just about a minute away from the airport shuttle(Skybus) bus stop and it costed me $18 for a one-way to the airport. It can be purchased directly from the counter.
Overall, it was a pleasant experience. They seem to be able to bring in a good crowd.
S.
Melanie the receptionist is AMAZING!
She's beautiful, nice, kind -hearted, she even let us use her mobile phone the when we were in need for a chest x-ray..
The place to be in Auckland for sure. 21/20
D.
It's a bit further from CBD than most other hostels. The rooms are a bit inconsistent, but they seemed to be upgrading the bad ones so i can't complain. The good ones were much more comfortable than compareable hostels in NZ. Everything is keep very clean especially the bathrooms and kitchen. The small number of staff is helpful, but sometimes hard to find. The kitchen and dinning area are next to the common area so it's easy to meet people, athiigj in general it's pretty quiet.
K.
I really enjoyed my stay at Grafton Backpackers Accommodation. It was nice to have the room I did, a pod dorm. I love the pod style dorms and wish all hostels had them. I also really liked their setup. The kitchen is big, lot’s of fridge space. The dinning room is like sitting in a restaurant with it’s booths, I really liked it. Then they have a living room area which is always busy but, in a good way. Wifi could be stronger but overall I liked this place a lot.
C.
-kind of cheap
-8 person dorms are too small for 8 people, so you can't really store anything
-showers and toilets are clean but old
-a few cockroaches in the kitchen
-someone took our precooked food?! (On a Sunday so not the cleaning crew)
-wifi is unusable when too many people are logged in, but works fine very early or late in the day
-2 person rooms are ok, no windows -> pretty hot when sunny
J.
great atmosphere and a wee smoko bit down stair for everyone to hang out in
T.
Really good Hostel! However, the location could be a bit better and the kitchen was too small.
C.
Cheap accommodation, very tidy and cosy.
V.
Good value, can get chilly at times due to centralized ventilation
M.
Its okay for a few days. Bathroom is not good cleaned and there are a few animals in the kitchen..
p.
Neutral really I suppose you et what you pay for .hard to find near a motorway but lets face it on average as the other reviewer said it is cheaper . Every day accommodation in Auckland gets harder .At least our TV was working and the shower worked , reasonably clean .Its OK but don't expect the earth .End of a semi commercial back street .
s.
Best budget friendly backpackers in proximity of cbd
C.
Dirty, but if you like parties and meeting people is the place.
O.
Clean, gas stoves, nice vipe! Had a good time there!
M.
Clean, tidy, a little noisy being so close to the motorway
R.
Just for one night stay and fair for the price. Sockets by the beds don't exist as mentioned .
D.
Cool people but dirty kitchen
A.
Pretty good for the rates they offer
M.

P.

(Translated) Simply the best backpack in Auckland!

Le meilleur backpack sur Auckland tout simplement !

(Translated) The hostel was mostly clean and the people were friendly and helpful. Shower and toilet was also okay - one of the showers does not seem to be adjustable in size and is therefore not suitable for tall people. The mattresses were unfortunately a bit hung, but I could still sleep well. In addition, we had a pretty nice view from the window.
(Original)

(Translated) Very good hotel prices vary depending on the summer or winter but remain cheaper than any other so very good value for money. The staff is super nice, the kitchen is well equipped and everything is clean. Well located, it has in addition to a good wifi connection. In short, the base if you are just arriving in Auckland or if you have a job in the city center :)

(Translated) Very nice home. Despite the air conditioning in the room while it is cold. Moreover, it is much colder in the room than outside! And despite the fact that there is no storage in the room (6 people) or towel or soap dish in the showers, I am satisfied. Because it is clean, the view is pleasant with these large windows, because we are not far from the center and Mount Eden on foot. But also because it is well soundproofed, there is a nice little smoking area downstairs and there is: a hair dryer in the bathroom;) and the shower pressure is perfect.
(Original)

(Translated) Good place, has everything, comfortable beds, washing machine, good common spaces. It fails in the wifi (it is not very good in the last floor) and in the cleaning.

(Translated) I was in the hostel for a total of 3 months, it was very clean in itself, which I can tell since I worked there. The kitchen of all things was very, very cockroachy, and not much was done about it!
Most of the complaints in Hostel World and Booking were because of the non-existent windows in the rooms, I can say that there are about 50 rooms of which only 4 have no window, and these are accordingly the cheaper, but this is also there in the descriptions, find it disrespectful and ignorant to complain about it!
Other complaints were against the manager, Kevin. Personally, I never had any problems with him and got on really well with him, but unfortunately I have to say that he often did not do his job and Colin, the owner, did not notice it and blindly trusted him (or still does!) What I personally find a mistake! Kevin often had problems with guests (and staff!), Absurd problems, he often wronged them, insulted them or was just unfriendly towards them, not good qualities for a manager, in my opinion he chose the wrong profession !
The Grafton has space for 120 people, there is a chill room where you can prepare food and meet people, as well as in the common area, kitchen and dining area! If you want to drink alcohol the best thing to do is go down to the bottom of the cove, there you always meet people !!
The hostel is next to the motorway BUT you absolutely NOTHING so you don't have to worry about it!
If something is "outside", it is a 10-15 minute walk to the city, which is very relaxed. If you want to stay in the city then you should be prepared for noise. 😉
In my opinion a great hostel! 👍🏼
There are pros and cons everywhere, and everyone thinks differently, think about it!
My recommendation; go on the weekend if you have the option.
(Original)

(Translated) A few pros and a few cons.
Cons:
- Showers are kind of weird, they are clean, but something comes out between steam and water, difficult to describe, no jet or something
- Hostel is located next to the motorway / exit. The con here is that you can't open windows
Neither nor:
- it feels more distant, in others the cohesion is stronger and everyone knows everyone
- You can have bad times in the kitchen where a lot of people are making food
- You have internet 24/7 everywhere in the hostel, but when many are online, it hardly works
Pros:
- reasonably priced, generally clean
- normal to nice staff
- everything can be achieved easily
(Original)
Ein paar pros und paar cons.
Cons:
- Hostel liegt neben Autobahn/-Ausfahrt.
Pros:
- recht günstig, allgemein sauber
- normales bis nettes Personal
- man kann alles gut erreichen
