Room was clean and well-designed. Reception was friendly. But the area was not safe, a lot of homeless people, druggie, walking around and begging for money. A lady swore to me and kept punching the wall as I did not respond to her.

I Stayed last night in a Double Ensuite Room and wow it was beyond expectations. Firstly I was greeted by a friendly gentleman who assisted with my wifi and locating/entering of room/lodge everything was perfect the shower had hot water and the bed was comfy with a fan providing maIn air conditioning the tv was useful too positioned safely no problem with carparking found one easily in daytime the only downfall was would have been ideal see private kitchen facilities and utensils a microwave ?
Maybe also advise when you are deducting payment beforehand as I had no idea it was paid apart from that I would indeed stay there again in future and I did not mind the noise on Saturday evening right thru after midnight

I stayed in a medium sized private room with a private bathroom and was amazed at the quality for the price. 88nzd for a clean, tidy, all around good looking room. The receptionist was nice and staying there was very relaxing. Loved it.

Stayed in private room with bathroom for one night and it was good. Information was well delivered and room was neat and clean. There was a much needed fan in the room and we slept with windows slightly open and no bugs came in. We never used any of the other facilities but it should be good if it compares to the rest of the place. Area is quite dodge (for NZ) but some cool bars around and it's an easy walk to Wynyard Quarter.

Clean with lots of amenities. Beds are ok, pillows are awful but that's par for hostels, and there are large shared fridges in the kitchen/lounge.
Lots of people leave food behind here, and the staff is diligent about marking it as "free", so I haven't had to buy breakfast yet!

The nicest hostel I've ever stayed at. The beds, rooms, and bathrooms were clean and comfy. The female dorm with 5 beds was perfect.
A couple guests did have their passport stolen out of the common room (watch your stuff!) And a backpack out of the luggage room. You can lock your belongings in a crate built into the beds in your room once you check in 👍🏻

Had a ton of fun here! The atmosphere in the communal areas always seemed very good and I met a ton of cool people here. Too bad the communal areas close at midnight :p. The kitchen is well equipped, the facilities are clean and the 20-bed dorm honestly is pretty good as there is lots of space and you have your own bunk bed with curtain anyway.
J.
Nice hostel. I stayed in the 7 bed dorm. Seemed like someone was always coming in late and leaving early. Has a nice common room and kitchen that people hang out in, although most people were on their phones. Still met some people to hang out with. Bathrooms and showers were always clean. The floor I was on had 3 private toilet rooms and 3 shower rooms that the whole floors used. Located on a busy street that can be a little noisy at night, and is a little bit of a walk from the ferry and the main downtown (about 30-40 min, And has a steep hill).

We changed to this hostel because the first one was really bad....it was like night and day. Staff is super friendly, welcoming and helpful.
Rooms are huge and even it was a 20 dorm it was really comfy and quiet. Every bed has its private space with curtains, lights etc
Everything is clean and there are enough showers and toilets.
The kitchen is well equipped and clean as well. No complaints, would stay here again!!

Best Hostel in Auckland you have nice bed's even in the big rooms, you have lockers(free) the staff is very kind and helpful. You have sockets at your bed and every bed has it's own light. The bathroom's are clean and the whole place feels after a short time like home.
A.
Brilliant communal kitchen facilities, clean dorms, each bunk comes equipped with privacy curtains so you can drool in your sleep without shame. Friendly staff, reasonably clean showers, the only downside is the recently-opened music venue that has opened next door. Music BLARES through the pipes and cannot be ignored in the basement dorm. Not the hostel's fault, but you'll definitely require earplugs/headphones if you're looking for a proper sleep on those nights.
M.
Best hostel I've ever been to. So clean and well kept. Nice bedrooms and nice toilets. Awesome kitchen and great staff. Stayed here on three occasions. One time I lost my passport and realized four hours prior to take-off for the plane. These guys helped me out massively and were a strong help in me actually catching the flight despite needing a temporary passport.
Only bad thing is that the kitchen and common room closes already at 10.30. That I think is a serious downside. But the rest makes up for it. 5/5 rating. Definitely do NOT go to Silverfern. Tried it; worst hostel ice ever set foot in.
T.
The location was great. As I stayed on a Monday night, the main street that it is situated at was very quiet and I had good sleep. The rooms are spacious and come with curtains on the beds for privacy. Free ear plugs are offered but you …

Awesome hostel! Everything is really clean and in great condition, even the kitchen, which is difficult to maintain in a hostel. The areas to donate leftover dry and refrigerated food is a really nice touch to minimise waste and help feed others. Composting and recycling is also great. The wifi throughout the hostel is slow at times but works well. Showers and toilets are great. Beds are super comfy, with a light, outlet, curtain, and locker for each bed. The 20 bed dorm doesn't even feel that big. All the staff I interacted with were super friendly. I'll definitely stay at other Haka Lodges in NZ!
m.
Awesome stay. I used dormitory. Each bed has a light and a power supply. There was a curtain too, so protected privacy and very comfortable on the bed. Room, toilets, shower rooms and kitchen were always clean. It was nice.
Location is good. Bus stop is very near. I could walk to citylink’s bus stop.
Unfortunately, in bedroom, WiFi was very weak. The reason may be that the room was in the basement. and some people talk till midnight in room. it was noisy.
N.
I really loved the sturdy wooden bunks and lots of space to store food in the kitchen. I stayed in the 20 bed dorm which I was initially worried about because I've never been in a dorm that big and was sure it would be noisy and have no privacy but I was pleasantly surprised. The layout of the 20 bed dorm is such that you have about 4-6 beds in clusters in the corner so you don't notice that you are in such a big dorm and each bed has curtains, lights, and power outlets so privacy was no problem as well. I would definitely stay here again!
S.
I checked in late and I had perfect instructions on how to get in after hours. Sleeping was peaceful and curtains helped maintain privacy. The kitchen is big and a nice place to interact and meet people!
A.
Fantastic hostel - I would say the best I have stayed in in Aus and NZ combined. Great kitchen with all facilities, nice lounge and atmosphere. We were in a 20 bed dorm which was incredibly spacious and felt like a private room! Privacy curtains, personal plug sockets and reading lights all fantastic. This feels like a hostel designed/run by someone who knows about travelling, as it is really perfect for backpackers. Must stay in Auckland, even though it's out of the city - why would you want to be in the city when you could be here!
M.
Kind friendly staff, nice clean rooms, and an amazing kitchen and common room!
They had a big fridge for your groceries and when you left the staff had a section for free food left behind that was great if you’d forgotten something at the store. Overall great experience!
M.
By all means, stay here if your'e looking for a hostel. Beds are as private as they can be while not being completely shut off where you don't meet anyone. Kitchen and commons area is clean. Staff is extremely helpful. Showers are a little small, but very clean. You also have to consider the location which is amazing in terms of night life. Every first Thursday of the month they hold k-day (I believe) where they just kinda go off on k-street. Vendors, food, music, drag queens. Definitely the place to be. Only knock against it is the noise sometimes. Can get loud on weekends.
S.
One of the best hostels I've ever been. Super clean, comfortable beds and spacious rooms. The kitchen is also well equiped. Just wished the common area was separated from the kitchen
T.
Very nice and super comfortable hostel. It's free on the road after 6pm if you can find a spot (good luck) but we chose to park overnight in a nearby multi-storey for safety which can be pricey. The kitchen floats into the common area so that it is easy to socialise with people.
B.
Nice place, well-trained and helpful staff. Booked and checked-in late and was surprised to find a letter for me with all the details I'd need and even a night staff to assist. Has clean showers, toilets and nice lounge, free and fast wifi. Conveniently located.
K.
Lovely stay at the Haka Lodge! Clean and tidy. Good size kitchen although very busy around dinner time. Nice atmosphere, comfy clean beds with plugs and curtain. Near to bus terminal for trips and tours. Super friendly staff - thanks to Steve for answering all my many many questions!! Would stay here again! :)
J.
The quality of your stay will depend on how lucky you are. Some beds have curtains that provide privacy, some don't. Some beds are not even bunk beds and leave you totally exposed. Some beds have lockers, some don't. In the 20-bed room, the wifi is so poor that most of the time I had no access to the Internet from there. There is also a lot of noise coming from the music club next doors. The upside is you can hear the music so well that it's almost like going to the gig for free, unless you stay on the top floor, but then be ready to carry your bags up the stairs. When the management of the hostel tells you they will try to get the noise under control, do not believe them as they clearly won't get the drummers to hit the drums softer.
L.
You can't go wrong with this place. Stayed in a double room, felt like a hotelroom. Kitchen area is the best I've seen in a hostel. The staff is as friendly as they come. Very, very reasonably priced for what you get compared to other hostels I've been to and probably around the Auckland area as well.
R.
Haka Lodge is a great hostel. Right in the middle of a very LGBT+ friendly street and near the center of the city, Haka Lodge is truly a great option. The things they need to improve are that the common area is only open till 11pm, why close this?!? And after paying a thousand dollars to get to New Zealand to enjoy the winter, they have the heat on making the building warm :(
T.
Haka lodge is a great hostel with everything you need for a comfortable stay in Auckland. The luggage storage room was large but more than a little pungent when we checked in. We booked the family room which was fantastic. Staff were helpful at the backpackers. To conclude: staff is great.
A.
Stayed in the 5 bed dorm room and it's been great. Staff are lovely, the room is big enough for everyone to have room to move. Facilities are clean and again lots of space so it doesn't feel crowded in the kitchen.
C.
The hostel itself is very clean and modern. If you need a good place to get a good sleep after flying into Auckland, Haka is perfect. The beds are comfortable and have their own curtains, wall outlets and storage.
The crowds of people here were some amazing people!
D.
Very nice and clean hostel with nice staff. Great and large kitchen and also TV room is cool. Finally, I extended my stay for a week.
M.
Excellent place! We stayed twice and i already recommended to all my friends! Great facilities and really nice services. We arrived at 4 am, we walked 4 block from the bus stop, the avenue was quietly and everybody help us! Thanks a lot!
Great wifi, lawndry, huge kitchen! 🥰
T.
Staff were expecting us even at the late hour we arrived, place was warm ,comfortable and we felt safe. The Haka lodge is around 20 minutes walk away from the city centre. All facilities were neat and tidy. We had a private room and was well worth the money.
Y.
Thanks for Tom the reception trying his best to help out our problem
This hostel was clean enough for city area, easy to find a cheap food, people are so friendly, welcome and warm.
Location is not too central for "shorterm tourist", you need to walk 10 minutes to the skybus station at least.
Bathroom is the cleaned part of this hostel
A lot of door at every corridor for safety from fire maybe, but always have sign at every corner and door, so you wouldn't confused.
T.
Fab room upgraded from dorm to twin as the dorm was needed. The most important reason to stay here is: friendly staff who take care about you. There is a busstop on walking distance where the airport shuttle stops. I had a wonderful week there, and would stay again in a heart-beat.
B.
Nice place to stay. Wifi is slowish most times. Great beds with reading light, two outlets and privacy curtain. Immaculately clean rooms, showers and washroom areas. Laundry facilities are convenient.
Staff usually comes into the 5 bed mixed dorm with a vacuum just before checkout which is an early 10:00 rise. The construction outside this building (jackhammer) and the construction staff (guy with an INSANE laugh who I am prettt sure someone told him to change his tone because he seemed a lot softer by the time I woke up for my 6th morning)
So stay in the 11-bed dorms for peace and quiet and enjoy the company of an ecclectic range of people from working professionals to hippies to sk8ers to just your everyday backpacker.
T.
We chose to book a room that had a private bathroom. This was basically like a hotel instead of a hostel. The rooms were spacious and clean. I would stay here again.
K.
Very comfortable beds, excellent bathroom and kitchen facilities, friendly and helpful staff. Bring ear plugs to combat road/bar noise, but thoroughly recommend as a great place to stay.
J.
I have stayed at MANY backpackers and I would say that Haka Lodge is the best!!! It is in a central location and the facilities are up to date and clean - I highly recommend!!! I booked the 20 room dorm for a group of about 18 for the weekend, I had a few changes and additions to my booking and throughout the whole process the staff were quick to get back to me and were so lovely and got everything organised for me without any issues!!! Big thank you to all the Haka Lodge we had a great weekend!!!
T.
Normally we call it a hotel the facilities are fantastic. It's a bit of a walk to CBD but the location is perfect because it's quiet and central. The price is good and is pretty close to the skybus stop. I found it very cliquey and sometimes difficult to mix with the group.
M.
Haka Lodge Auckland is the cleanest and nicest hostel I've ever stayed at. And I've stayed in a lot of hostels. I was in the 20 bed dorm. The beds are very comfortable, will built, don't creak when get in them, the curtains are awesome, and the whole dorm was remarkably quiet and comfortable.
T.
THE best team we have experienced in our time travelling. The private room was big and had a tv and a window that opens. After a few rounds, we eventually got to GUNDRY St which was about a 10 minute walk away with luggages but did not know …
B.
The Haka Lodge in Auckland is AWESOME!! The hostel is held together by an amazing team of people who went above and beyond to make sure we had the best time possible during our stay. In fact, Clay (I think the Assistant Manager), not only spent the better part of an hour helping my friend and I plan our trip, but when one of our activities (Canyoning) required another person to make happen, he made little posters and hung them around the hostel to entice another person to join us on our adventure. The surrounding area is a bit interesting with numerous strip clubs and the like, but it's a 10 minute walk to the city center and easy to get to the airport via the SkyBus shuttle. Rooms are nice and modern - we stayed in a private room, but I'd imagine the others have the same vibe. Bathrooms were pretty clean as well and the common areas always seemed to be busy with tons of cool travelers. Definitely recommend and would stay there again if I'm back in Auckland.
D.
Location in a nice street. Bathrooms are clean and shower gel is provided. I was checked in a 7 people room. Rooms and bathrooms are mixed. They also have laundry machines. Nice ambient.
Q.
Haka lodge is a comfortable place to sleep with a friendly team of staff at an amazing rate, the common areas were very clean, any requests I made were taken care of immediately. I couldn't ask for a better place to stay while abroad.
T.
I was very happy and pleasantly surprised with my comfortable private room. I came into the hostel being a bit jet lagged and rattled from being so far from home on a solo trip. The room was at the back of the lodge so were not disturbed by any street noise.
J.
Good location. Lots of local restaurants and stores. It only about a fifteen minute walk to the downtown area. Many of the other attractions are also walkable. There are also pretty comprehensive buses in the city which can easily get you to locations further away. The rooms and facilities are very clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. Definitely recommended!
L.
its know for one of the best hostels in nz for a reason. everything was great. except that the kitchen area closes 11pm-6am. that alsp closes the main sitting and hanging out area. so when your coming back late at night thinking you could grab another beer or tea and chat a little bit longer with you friends thats not possible. if you work late and hope to socialize a bit after work its probably not happening since everyone is either firced to go out or to bed after kitchen closing.
J.
I've been traveling to quite a few countries over the course of the past year and I've stayed in a lot of hostels. There is definitely a difference in hostel from third world countries to first world countries and this hostel is no different. People here are generally long term working holiday visa workers or just working for a short period in Auckland. This is generally not too social of a hostel and I don't necessarily recommend staying here (or anywhere in Auckland) if you are trying to get a kiwi experience or meet a whole heap of people.
M.
Great hostel will really nice and well appointed rooms. We had a private room and it was better than most hotel rooms I have stayed at. Well worth the money will stay there next time I am traveling to aukland
E.
Great hostel, everything you would want. The beds are comfortable and there's a shared kitchen. The location is also amazing.
T.
staff is very friendly. room is cool. It’s suitable for backpackers. as a family traveller, it was little bit too young ;)* no lift.
L.
Location was alright. Lots of shops around and close to ponsonby but a bit of a walk to lower Queen st. Rooms were fine but kitchen was nasty. Dish cloths already moist when the kitchen opens. 🤮
T.
No problem whatsoever. Well worth the money. Wifi's good. Nice shower. Some sinks are blocked though. The staff are friendly and helpful. Great place for people who like to meet new people.
F.
Great Lodge to stay, the people are very kind and the facilities are very good and complete, good toilets, showers, the kitchen and the lounge are very cozy. Highly recommended!
S.
Stayed in 20 bed dorm room on a rainy Monday in Auckland. Location was alright, room was surprisingly quiet with 10+ ppl in the room. Bed was comfortable and each one has a curtain and light/outlet.
J.
Very good hostel, with great beds and a big living room. Also there are a lot of people and it is always fun there.
C.
Very nice hostel, friendly staff, clean rooms and bathrooms. Big kitchen. Would book again! Thanx!
M.
Simply the best hostel in Auckland. Stuff is easy going, knowledgeabke and provides a fast checkin. Prices for the beds are reasonably goos and the common and kitchen area appropriately sizes. Would always go here again!
G.
Very good facilities and rooms, perfect number of bathrooms and kitchen space for the number of guests. All clean and well organised, negatives are it's a bit pricey and far out of town/ferry
J.
Great place!! Clean kitchen, room, facilities. It was quiet and not too far from the downtown core. Highly recommend staying here and I look forward to going back!
M.
Good place. Lounge was super comfy. Big fridge for you to keep whatever you need refrigirated, and the rooms are very comfy.
T.
room is big enough. (the separate bath one) It was little bit chilly. but it’s july.i could hear band rockin for whole night. staff is very friendly.
A.
Beds were comfortable
Staff were friendly and helpful
Showers were alright
Location was great
Had a nice area to relax
Had a good tv room
Overall, a very good hostel
T.
Great stay.. had my own room with my own bathroom. .. make sure to get a USB wall adapter... otherwise you won't be able to charge your electronic devices...
G.
Very clean, and the staff was helpful. Good location although in the heart of a nightlife (men's clubs) district. Can be noisy.
B.
I love the Haka Lodge chain of hostels thanks to the cleanliness, free wifi, solid wood bunk beds (no creaking), privacy curtains on the bunks, and lights and powerpoints in each bunk. Free tea and coffee.
A.
The hostel is very clean, the bathrooms are new, and the beds are pretty comfortable, plus all of them have curtains (a must to be honest).
N.
Lovely room, very clean always ,nice kitchen and lounge area . Bit noisy doors being opposite a dorm room is the only negative point .staff very helpful
S.
Very clean, friendly staff and awesome facilities. Beds are comfortable and very private even in the 20 people shared dorm.
P.
It's a little bit out of the way, but the rooms are fantastic, and it's very homey for a hostel. It's easy to see why the Haka lodge is so well liked.
L.
Comfortable, modern rooms. Restrooms were clean and you've got a lot of space. Would always stay at a Haka Lodge again.
V.
I really liked this hostel!! The staff was really nice and helpful, especially Clay. The rooms were clean and spacious. I would definitely choose it again!
U.
nice place and there is even a blm trans flag down the street that your encouraged to stomp on. very cool.
タ.
Friendly staff. I booked the family room, it was very comfortable and clean, would book it again. Area was a little dubious but not too bad.
N.
No lockers in the room. The staff is not local so they can't give you accurate info about the city. Good atmosphere.
N.
Decent hostel, the area gets loud on weekend nights. 10 am checkout is the earliest I've ever had
E.
Very clean rooms, all bunks have their own curtain and light which was great. Perfect location too
J.
Comfy beds, modern facilities, love the little curtains over the bunk beds for privacy. Excellent hostel
s.
great location, cool vibe! felt safe. The staff were helpful & gave some good insiders tips to the night life :)
M.
I booked a private room. It was clean, comfortable, and modern. Above and beyond the average hostel.
S.
Great fun place to stay, very friendly staff, clean and well maintained rooms provided. Got to meet people around the world.
F.
By far the best backpack we've ever been to! Modern, clean, calm (yet fun), and the staff is great!! Loved it!
M.
The room and the service is very good! But the bathrooms is shared with girls and boys and the street is a little strange, but near to the queen street
J.
Nice and clean hostel but no insulation. It is located in loud party/strip club area.
C.
Best hostel ever! Clean, comfortable and good design! I will definitely come back!
