Second visit to the Hotel Grand Chancellor within a month. Staff helpful and professional, rooms large, clean and well stocked with everything you may need. Loved the pool, spa and sauna. This time we were in room 110. Location great for all that you need to do in Auckland. Will return
M.
Loved it here. Reception when we walked in on the 28 January just after 1pm, you were amazing, very informative, especially about parking, thank for making our first impression of Hotel Grand Chancellor an amazing experience. We appreciate your brilliant customer service ❤️❤️❤️
M.
Lovely receptionist lady who was doing everything to make our stay wonderful & stressfree 🤣 the rooms are definitely good value & i upgraded which covered our disability needs👌 & beautiful lil balcony with table&chairs & a good view.I'm definitely staying there again i highly recommend it all the staff are so lovely & accomodating
K.
The reception personnel who checked us in was the best. So courteous and professional. I am also always thankful for kitchenettes. The room was very well designed. So, although not the most spacious (spacious enough), every nook was useful. View is not great. But it is in the CBD. So it's conveniently located. The little Japanese restaurant in the same building is great - good food at great prices. The hotel is not 'hip' nor is it luxurious. And the gym is small. But it has a hot tub and a lap pool. I'm satisfied.
R.
Nice hotel, didn't have our room ready when we checked in though
C.
The hotel is a little 'tired', but the hotel is well located and good overall. At the time of visiting, there were separate cards required for the lift and room. Only one lift card was able to be issued per room, which limited the independence of the family.
G.
Staff were awesome , Mr Lee was a star getting our room sorted :)
K.
We had a lovely experience there this weekend after waiting months to use our Grabone voucher purchased in April. The reception was warm and efficient. We had a suite with a balcony. Everything was clean and the bed was firm. Breakfast was nice, and so was a swim before departure.
C.
Rooms are clean and tidy. Kitchen facilities (where included) useful. Great location. Gym, Pool and Sauna are excellent - well maintained and a good size.
C.
Very good location. Room was actually quite large with a separate kitchen / dining area. Pricing was good compared to all the other nearby AKL hotels. However not well sound proofed. Every time another guest closed their door on the floor, It felt like they were next door to me. Also quite noisy from the outside.
i.
Badly in need of renovation. Photos online to don't reflect true state of rooms. Staff very friendly and helpful. Location good.Good firm and comfortable bed and shower was good great water pressure. Bit noisy from traffic even though Web said soundproof? Overall glad we got discount price as would have been disappointed if we had paid full price.
A.
Nice tidy spacious rooms.
Staff were a bit unpleasant trying to tell me I had booked 2 apartments for the same day.
And having to fill in forms - when you've already booked online (after a long day, and a long walk, carrying bags) is a bit of a drag - not to mention unnecessay, and unhelpful.
We *might* go back there, but only for the convenience.
M.
Excellent location- Very central to downtown Auckland, makes walking around very easy. Check in and check out was easy. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Comfortable room. Many of the hotels in New Zealand don't have Air conditioning. We were there during the summertime and it was quite hot. This place DID have AC, which we were so grateful for. Would recommend.
I.
Perfectly adequate in terms of size of room, amenities and cleanliness. Let down though by single glazing to the street and paper thin walls between rooms. Fine if you strike a quiet night in town and quiet neighbours in the hotel. No restaurant or room service other than breakfast. On my night it took 4 calls to reception to get the phone answered but I got the answer I needed promptly.
T.
Had a nice room on the second floor. Room was spacious and clean. Check in was easy. I had made the reservation for 3 adults in a suite with one bed and the staff left a cot for is ahead of time which was much appreciated. The hotel is in a good location but our room was low to the ground and on a busy road
A.
Overall, the hotel isn't anything spectacular, but I can't argue that it's very good value for money.
I was particularly looking for a hotel that would let me and a work colleague share a room (so one of us had the pull up bed and the other the main bed).
They were very happy to accommodate it for a small fee which meant I ended up saving a lot in not having to get a second room.
The room had everything I needed and the bed was very comfy... Very happy with my stay.
Only downside is the fact there isn't really a room you can go and work from, but that's really not that much of an issue.
I would definitely stay here again in future.
A.
I stayed here for a work tripon level 3. Overall if you are looking for somewhere to sleep, shower and park your car in a central city location it's OK.
Pros: close to everything, its apartment style so has a kitchenette, balcony and separate bedroom. Linen seemed clean and towels were clean. Kitchenette had most of what you needed for simple cooking if you wanted. Bedroom is far away from the main entrance.
Cons: close to main roads so really loud at night (trucks and buses going past and merry yelling from those out late). Surprisingly loud even on a Tuesday and Wednesday night (I was up until 12am local time) I ended up with headphones in listening to soothing music. It's definitely seen better days and could use a REALLY good clean. The carpets were questionable and the bathroom tiles were mouldy. It's not the worst but made me wish I brought slippers. There was also a cigarette burn in one of the blankets.
Other comments:
The lifts were being upgraded so there was only one lift working.
There was some kind of smell in the hallways... Maybe it was musty but it smelt like someone was cooking fish....also smelt like cigarettes.
A.
Good location, lovely staff
The room smelt of old food or something strong and unclean when we first walked in, had to air it out, also cracks and marks all over the walls and bathroom …
K.
My wife and I just stayed two nights and we will certainly stay again when we return to Auckland. The staff are friendly and helpful, the location is an easy walk to the downtown or viaduct basin areas. The room itself is far better than many similar priced hotels I have stayed. We had a balcony with a nice view over the city. Everything was clean and comfortable. Great value for money!
F.
Just Perfect lil spot close to food and Convinience Shops close to Viaduct, got $2 Parking from Saturday Night to Monday 8am, right outside Room is separate from lounge, just a great place to Sleep &;recoop if you own a busy household, feeling blessed !! And refreshed ☺️
V.
Stayed here for a work trip. Sign in was effortless with great staff to assist. The room was extremely tidy and had everything you would ever need. Had a great view from the 7th floor. Very happy with the water pressure for the shower, that's always a must for me.
Recommend staying here as in the heart of the CBD
R.
The decor is a bit dated but the rooms are big and there is a good size lounge / kitchenette with the bedroom positioned far away from the entrance so now from other guests doesn't reach. The heating is also effective and quiet and the hotel is well positioned.
S.
The hotel location, lobby, hotel room decor, cleanliness, comfort were all very good. I enjoyed my short stay there. Tye associated restaurant dinner was also not bad. Would rank that 7/10. The english breakfast though was average. Limited choices, no sausages, no omlettes. Thus would be good to change the menu for some warm items. Otherwise its a good value for money hotel.
R.
I stayed 6 nights and am thrilled with the service I received, the clean room/linen and amenities this hotel has to offer. I booked a couple of months beforehand and staff couldn't do enough to find discounts for me wherever possible. The second to last day I upgraded from a studio to one bedroom to accommodate my family and again, I received discounted rates for the room and parking. The gym, pool and spa pool were fantastic and hats off to Casi, Lee and Soo for their superb patience and professionalism. Me and my family loved this hotel and will definitely stay again. I challenge anyone to find a better rate for a similar hotel in this prime location...
F.
The Grand Chancellor Hotel is very centrally located, the facilities are great and so is the staff at reception... They will go above and beyond to make your stay the best. If you're lucky you'll get Lee at reception... He's a legend!. The beds are comfy and the space ample. The kitchen very well stocked with everything you might need for cooking your meals... And if you're lucky as we were, you'll get a high floor with views to the Sky Tower! Highly recommended!
K.
We travel quiet a bit for buisiness and leisure. We stayed at the Grand Chancellor before flying out of NZ. Really enjoyed our stay. The rooms are very spacious, and clean with everything you need in them. Staff were friendly and accomodating for our 6 month old. The hotel has good facilities including the pool and gym which we used during our stay, and is in a great location central to everything. Would recommend staying and will book again next time we're back.
J.
Well priced and good location. My room was clean and adequately appointed and included a kitchenette. Shower is too narrow so the curtain keeps sticking to me (I hate that feeling) and I'm not a particularly big guy. Only breakfast served which really sucked as I had a very long day and didn't have the energy to go out last night but had to.
L.
Location was the best part of this hotel. Our power went out when we turned on the kettle, and room didn't come with a hairdryer or ironing board. Breakfast was continental and limited.
J.
Love the size of the room and the location(not busy or noisy). But the air conditioning in the rooms never seem to work?
K.
Room we had had a kitchenette, clean, quiet, reception staff were very friendly and helpful - loaned me a screwdriver to fix one of the wheels on my luggage, if I hadn't left the suitcase in my room I'm pretty certain they would have fixed it for me. Very central location within sight of the Skytower. Also let us check out 1 1/2 hours later for no extra charge.
E.
The room was dated and suffering from wear and tear but functional with all the necessaries for a business traveler. The building made a fair amount of noise as you could hear water flowing through pipes and doors closing for other rooms. The location is great and near many good restaurants and breakfast cafes. Staff is friendly and helpful.
J.
Decent spot to hang out. Staff are always really good, safe parking and easy, cheaper than the street, nice enough mini bar, rooms are good quality and spacious. I do think the shower was made for Hobbits though, had to do yoga poses to get through it, lol. Right near everything in downtown Auckland. Breakfast is very basic but not too bad, coffee was decent. This was my second stay, happy to come again. Another plus is it exits onto the street that leads to the motorway to escape the city so very easy
S.
The room was clean and the staff were friendly. Reasonably good location. The room was a bit cramped especially the bathroom. They made me pay the full room cost as well as $100 for incidentals upfront rather than just doing a credit card authorisation like most hotels do. It was an ok place but I wouldn't pay a lot for it. The breakfast was pretty mediocre.
J.
Quiet and perfectly placed in the city center. Close to three public carparks, weekend parking is very affordable. Clean and comfortable. Good value.
J.
Big spacious rooms. It was a bit smelly inside like the windows hadn’t been open for weeks after someone had stayed however after about an hour of fresh air the room was nice. The pool and gym facilities were fantastic.
D.
Stayed for one night before my flight home from Auckland. Checking was easy, and the rollaway bed for third member of our group was already in the room when we showed up. Overall had a good stay, room had everything we needed. Checkout was easy and we were able to keep our bags stored until late afternoon when we left for the airport.
L.
Flaky "free" wifi not worth bothering with. Bathroom looked dirty and needed maintenance. Hard to get room temperature right. Good sized room. TV in weird spot on desk rather than wall. Excellent pool and spa facilities. Good location for walking to CBD.
M.
The room has got quite much space and is clean. The walls are quite thin and you may hear the water in the pipes and the traffic outside. The staff is very helpful.
S.
The location was great! Close to many restaurants and public transport. The room is clean and sizable. Some fittings are old and need updating. Overall its good and I would stay here again
T.
Husband and I stayed here for a one-day stop en route to a conference. There are always people to help you in the hotel. In fact, the whole hotel is very clean. The price for the hotel was very good. A nice quiet retreat away from the hustle of the city itself.
n.
Overnight stay in Auckland, the hotel was very central to nice restaurants and the CBD. Very friendly staff and great service. Rooms are very clean and large. With a decent sized bathroom. Overall a good place to spend the night.
K.
Average. $30 additional per night to park vehicle. We parked on road. Cost us $4 each night. ;) Maybe we stayed in a cheaper room? priced at $292 for 2 nights. Basic shower over fairly small bath tub. Vanity had not much space at all for putting toilet bag make up etc mirror shelf is no good for putting make up on. ;) felt a bit crammed in bathroom. Rest was fairly spacious. Be sure to hang up towels and put out your green clean door hanger out, for your 2x free coffees the next morning. :) no towels by swimming pool so bring your room one with you. Cleaning staff kindly left more milk in fridge when requested. Would love to see NZ made natural body products in bathrooms. Promoting NZ made and with out SLS and propylene glycol etc. Compostable disposeable coffee cups would be much better too.
L.
Buyer beware of special rates. Was very excited about getting a studio and turned out it was more cramped than our friends normal hotel room. We were on the second floor so heard all the hoons driving past till late in the night. Friend was on the 5th floor and heard nothing. In saying that, it was a great location so that was a bonus for us as it was a quick walk into town and close to the train station.
M.
A hotel. The location is handy if you’re on foot, but the Auckland CBD traffic organisation and traffic light timing make it somewhat stressful and tiresome to reach by road. The staff are friendly and effective, doing their best to be accommodating. They offer meal chargebacks, but only for two ridiculously priced eateries in the ‘meat market’ part of town. The gym is reasonably equipped with everything you’d need, in good condition, and the pool is well above average for a hotel of this standard at 20m length, and is of appropriate scale for any level of swimmer to exercise or recreate safely and effectively. All up, a fairly good establishment.
S.
For the most part the front desk is friendly and courteous, and are willing to accommodate any requests as best they can. A paid breakfast is available, though it's quite the simple setup and has limited options. Additionally, they do not have any non dairy based milk available, which comes as a surprise given they're location.
T.
Stayed at this hotel at the beginning of the month. The amenities in the room were top of the line. The friendliness and attentiveness of the staff was second to none. Not a lot to do outside of the hotel. The location is probably the best thing about the hotel.
T.
Fantastic location. Close to all stores and more. The rooms are old and the beds and sofa are very very old and dilapidated.
The location is the reason for my rating of 3.
They charge exorbitant rates for parking. There is parking available for half the price around. Just look it up.
T.

R.
A good place to stay with everything you need. Good air con also, and a little balcony.
D.
I haven't used the hotel services but i lived in the building and its a nice building
F.
Very nice hotel. Pleased with my room compact but not too small. Nice amenities nice breakfast available. Comfortable night
M.
Really quaint apartments.
Well priced for a weekend get away.
Literally 5 minutes walk to the Viaduct.
Lovely heated lap pool & smaller pool that was hotter-perfect for me.
B.
Had some issues with the reception staff when I arrived late at night and they'd messed up my booking and wouldn't fix it, but the morning staff were much nicer and sorted it out.
Decent location, reasonably priced. Excellent shower.
P.
Perfectly OK place to stay. Being central Auckland there is lots of traffic noise all through the the night. But the up side is that you can walk to all your Auckland central meetings, leaving your car in the secure hotel car park
A.
Staff was super friendly & accomodating. The room was a little tired however it suited the one night stay we required while travelling past Auckland.
m.
I visited a friend there.
The room looked tidy and clean and well put together.
R.
The good:
Close to everything.
Good views.
We had our own balcony.
The bad:
The rooms were small.
No free wifi, $10 for 1gb.
Y.
On the bright side:
+ friendly staff
+ location in the middle of town
+ own kitchen
+ sight on Skytower
+ washing machine for guests
+ dish washer
+ trys to "go green"
+ the cussions are great!
The dark side:
- needs a make-over (stains of usage nearly everywhere)
- no up to only few information from the staff, only when asking
- smells like at the dentist
- paperthin walls
T.
Rooms are ok, strange layout. Could do with better TV and more sky channels would be expected. A bit noisy too as right by main road.
R.
Friendly, courteous and very helpful staff☺ the shower curtain is way overdue for replacement. Otherwise, the room was spacious and clean!
D.
Lovely apartments with good views. Lovely staff. On site parking and free wifi. Close to the Viaduct and a short walk to Sky City
