T.It was everything I was looking for. It's close to the city center if that is what you are into but it's so nice that it's not right in the middle of it! It's a ten minute walk to the top of Mt. Eden (with outstanding 360 views of the city) and walkable to so many shops and cafe's. There are several wonderful kebab shops and a super quaint bookstore. The set-up of the hostel itself is also lovely. It's an old victorian so you feel more like you're staying at a home then in a typical hostel - but still has everything you need in any hostel. The rates are also very reasonable. Laundry on site, great kitchen, living room/hang out room and great garden area in the back (and small one in front). Highly recommend this great place!
N.Needs some upkeep! Certainly friendly, but a number of things fall well behind other hostels in NZ.
It all smells like a wet dog, bathrooms ok but all gives an old and somewhat decrepit impression.
Owner upgraded me to a double which was cool.
Room: mattress a little too soft but fine. ‘Smart' wall socket randomly turned heater and light off, presumably anti-fire hazard, and I was in the dark for a while. Feel I should have been informed about this!
No free tea or coffee as is standard in other hostels.
Fine for a night, but not much more for me.
M.Had an awesome stay at Oaklands Lodge. Great location, comfortable rooms and a kitchen with absolutely everything. CBD/ airport are all within a 20 min drive. Would highly recommend short or long-term stay here.
B.This hostel was truly a second home. I stayed in Auckland for 2 1/2 months here and I could not have been happier with my experience. Ian an Brenda are the sweetest people and the hostel itself was lovely. Great location, very safe. Highly, highly recommended.
N.So I stayed in the budget single room. Checked in late and checked out super early so didn't deal with staff as such. Cleanest backpackers I have ever stayed at. Clean sheets, tidy bathrooms and from a brief view of the kitchen, clean kitchen. The stairs going up to the rooms even looked vacuumed!
F.Oaklands is great. We stayed here for a week or so at the beginning of our 1 year working holiday, and chose to stay again when we returned to Auckland at the end of our year.
Dorms and private rooms are nice, kitchen is big and everything is clean enough. Common areas are nice, both inside and out. Staff are helpful. And it's not too expensive. Good value for your money.
I recommend staying at this hostel and climbing Mt. Eden, which is a quick hike right next door.
A.Really nice hostel both for those who will stay 1, 2 or 30 days. The most special is the local managers team that give us example of the welcoming great kiwi spirit. Clean, friendly and comfortable environment, you will stay few steps from bars, restaurants, shops, supermarkets and 1 minute from the bus top in a calm residential area – so you don’t have to pay much money just to be in the heart of busy and noisy Queen Street Rd. If you are looking for an adult, non-party hostel, they mean it. You and your friends will still have a garden and gaming nights if you want to. If you go to Auckland on summer, my suggestion is book it ahead if you want to make special requirements (like fans) for shared rooms. You will have access to a very equipped kitchen and bathrooms for male and female too
A.Kindest people on the planet hosting an extremely clean hostel.
Stayed here for a week and felt incredibly welcome. The whole hostel is very well organised; the shared spaces are plentiful and accommodating. The private areas are clean and fit for purpose.
The other guests during my stay became friends, so much so that I kept coming back to the hostel even though I wasnt staying here anymore.
As I am writing this, I am enjoying the sofa in the cosy living room with David Attenborough in the background with a few other guests.
Highly recommend! Five stars is not enough. Will definitely return whenever I get the chance 🏡
M.Charlotte is the best hostelmanager I’ve ever met. So friendly, kind with a big smile on her face. She’s there for all your questions and you can feel she’s doing that with love!
The hostel is spacious, on a really good location near by everything you need on walking distance. Good kitchen, loads of free food what is nice if you’re on a backpackers budget. I made my own sushi almost for free! And even free feijoa fruits to try what was a new fruit for me!
I’ve stayed one night in the 11 dorm and I had the best sleep in weeks! The dorm is so spacious that you don’t realize it’s an 11 dorm! To bad that I’ve already booked another hostel for the next night.
Great hostel!
A.Nice and really clean hostel. The manager was friendly and helpful (we needed a scale to weight our luggage and she provided one). The kitchen is big and really well equipped. They recycle and compost, which is great. The room was big enough and the end was comfy. Bathroom: perfect. Nice little garden with hammocks. Free Wi-Fi. Late check-in possible. Nearby Mount Eden and close to the centre by bus. A lot of restaurants near the hostel. I definitely recommend it.
S.Oakland's lodge was the perfect place to stay while I was in New Zealand. It always felt like home coming back due to its charm, cleanliness, and friendly staff. I will miss the lodge and hope to come back one day in the future. Great locale!
C.Really nice hostel in a great burrow of Aukland. Steps from bars, restaurants, shops, walks, pools and the bus. When they say it is an adult, non party hostel, they mean it. Everyone was very respectful and the staff are great. Was a very enjoyable time. The only reason they didn’t get a five is that the rooms are super hot and definitely need fans, even a small clip on one onto the chest of drawers would help.
Y.Excellent location... a few minutes from shops, restaurants and bus stops. the staff was friendly. The house is a little dated... but it is beautiful... The kitchen was great, several fridges, toilets and showers!

I.I really enjoyed a lot my stay here at Oaklands Lodge, it was much better than I expected.
I had a few experiences staying at Hostels, and they were the worst. But here made felt like home. A really quite place, with huge spaces to be in the living room, backyard, or in the kitchen if you want.
It's super safe too, they have lockers inside the rooms, and a storage room if you have any bigger item.
For me was perfect, I'd recommend it to my friends and family ;).

E.Its a nice hostel with a familar feeling. The owners are nice and love to stay in contact with their visitors. The citchen is big and includes everything you need. The location is nice. You have to little garden and a community room with the oppertunity to play some Mario Kart and lot more and watch movies together. Its located quit near to Mt. Eden which is pretty cool, cause you can go up there for the sunset easily. The doorms are pretty big, so you have to share the room with a lot of people and the bathroom is a way too small for the number of guests that are staying in the hostel. But all in all its a nice place to stay.
L.Nice neighborhood! Nice manager. Just spaceious compared to other hostels and lovely little garden with lots of herbs! Quiet and nice! Good connections to central city and... if you have a car with you: free parking in the street!! Always a spot!
K.When I arrived at the Oaklands Lodge I was greeted by the wonderful cat with a big purr! As I stepped inside the face of the lovely manager Ian and his wife made sure to get everything situated and went off to my very clean room. There are many restrooms, fast Wifi, a great lounge area, and wonderful kitchen! I was amazed at how clean and quant this place felt, it was hard to leave. J.Nice place and nice people...nice cat 😉😁 our room was a little odd though. We stayed in room 2, the floor was uneven/slanted, so furniture was on a lean, the head end of the bed was on a downward angle.. felt like the blood rushed to our heads and almost like we were going to slide off the bed and out the window 😂 had to shift our bed around the other way so our heads were at least on the higher end of the room. Felt really unsteady trying to walk around the room too. Found it more funny than anything, but I think guests should get a warning about this, thank you for your hospitality anyway.
R.Homely feeling, nice people to chat with, very helpful staff, no party hostel. Large self-catering kitchen. 10-15min to downtown with a bus and 5min to Mt Eden which gives a fantastic view on Auckland. Would def recommend if you're looking for a more calm, cozy hostel a bit outside of downtown.

C.Clean and comfortable hostel near Mt Eden. Beautiful location and maybe the best choice for hostels in Auckland! Only nice people and nothing left to wish. You will definitely enjoy your stay if you don't like to be at downtown .. next supermarket is about 10 minutes to walk and everything you need is close around the hostel. City center is about 25 minutes to walk but there are good bus connections close to the lodge.
M.Real stand out hostel. I'd recommend either the group or single rooms. The single rooms were pretty pricey and you could tell they were subsidizing the cheaper group rooms.
Everyone staying there was nice and the hosts were real good people. They had plenty of advice for the town and could help you with anything.
C.What a great backpackers! Located in Mt Eden village makes it handy to catch a bus into the city and to take in the beautiful views from the top of Mount Eden. The hostel is spacious, it has a good sized kitchen and a nice garden area. Would highly reccommend

SUPER GOOD LOCATION: 10 minuts from mount eden summit where you can go for a run or watch the sunset drinking beers, 1min from restaurant/bar/supermarket, 2mins from the autobus stop for city centre/airport/beach!!
Dormitory and private room both nice and tidy. Receptions always available and super kind. Tons of book to read, xbox&game and a lot of dvd movie. Cheers

P.2 nights stay in a double room (April 2014). Nice staff. Good backpacker, clean and well situated (bus stop, supermarkets, Mt Eden walk). Full-equipped kitchen but dining room too small for many people. Great room with furniture and hangers for our stuffs. WiFi by Zenbu (unstable connection) and vouchers not really cheap (however 200MB free at arrival).
Y.Great homely spot in the centre of Mt Eden. Welcoming, equipped and suitable for travellers in particular. Very helpful proprietors.
Only thing I found is that the bunk bed frames stuck up at the ends and were too short for me (6ft 2")

A.A good backpacker just a few minutes away from the city centre. It is decently priced and staff is friendly. i stayed in the double room on the 1st floor which i liked and the common shower bathroom and toilet area had a hair dryer and soaps that one could use without any additional costs. We were even given 2 500mb wifi coupons as we were 2 of us. Parking is on the road and its free
All in all i am definitely going back to this place when i am in auckland

M.Nice hostel, great kitchen, friendly managers and a familiar atmosphere! Theres a busstation only some walk minutes away. It's easy to get to the city center. The hostel is located at the mount eden. There are some great restaurant near the hostel.
C.stayed in the 11 bed dorm. this is a large dorm and does not feel like you are sleeping with 11 other people. there is plenty of lockers for you thing in the dorm even lockers in the kitchen area for your food. the bathrooms felt clean same with the bedroom, and kitchen area. the lounge was very chill, there movies, tv show and even video games. location is out of the cbd but you can walk to k street in 35 min or newtown in 30 min.

S.Currently staying here for Armageddon Auckland, and will be staying here again! Have a key code that was emailed to us for our late check-in, friendly staff, and a communal kitchen you can store food in. Good locks on doors, privacy, and it's clean and warm :) it's also cheap for being less than 15 minute bus ride from ASB stadium, and a 15 minute walk to Countdown.
