Great location for solo travelers like me.. I had so many options for food, and entertainments. Budget place and exactly on clubbing area. It is busy area and I didn’t felt like left alone. Explored lot of places.

One of the best places to stay in Auckland. Big reception/common area where you can always make friends or just chill and do your own stuff. Always clean and tidy. Recommend it.

Queens street backpackers is one of thee best hostels in Auckland. I have personally stayed in quite a few around Auckland and elsewhere in New Zealand and I have never felt safer in a City. It can be loud, but you are on the most popular street with access to all the bars and pubs you desire🤗

I stayed at the Queen Street Backpackers and had a wonderful time in Auckland! I was a bit lost when I first arrived in the city, but the American receptionist was so nice and friendly and pointed the way to a shopping area and Pointer's Bar and Grille for lunch! Definitely recommend to anyone who wants to stay close to everything in Auckland.

Staying here is like staying with family. The staff, especially the lovely American receptionist Kelly, are amazing. So kind, witty, and knowledgeable. That manager should give them a raise. There was also a lovely cleaner there named Niki but I think she's gone off to pursue her career in AUS. Ten out of ten would recommend. P.s. mind the kebab shop outside.

Pros: Decent location, Auckland night market is just opposite the street and near Sky Tower every Thursday and Saturday respectively. Few minutes walks to ANZ bank/New World Metro/Countdown/The Warehouse and everything you might need for your journey. Convenient public transport via train/bus. Comfortable bed in the room. Has windows for ventilation. Room and toilet are clean especially the toilet. Shower rooms are less clean but acceptable. Good hot showers. Free breakfast available; toast with butter/peanut butter/jam, cereal with milk, coffee/tea. Read more below for breakfast. Cons: Reception lady (wouldn’t want to name her) can be a little more cheerful and lively. Considered that she’s the first person every guest is going to meet. She can easily affect our first impression of the hostel. Ford street is rather noisy at night, most of the nights there were loud music and people screaming up to 1am for my experience. Kitchen has basic equipments except cooking ingredients/seasonings. I could tell the effort of staff keeping the kitchen clean, but some backpackers are just not being responsible and cooperative. Kitchen closed and locked at 10pm which is a little bit inconvenient, it could be a bit later. One morning they were running out of breakfast (couldn’t they see this coming?), left with only toast with butter and coffee which is disappointing (everything else has finished). They also control the amount of milk each person can get. On that morning they have nothing much breakfast left, I asked for milk because I don’t drink coffee and tea has finished. The staff rejected my request. Pro tips for traveller: You can use your home county photo ID to get a library card from central library just down the road. You can use library card to enter museum for free as well, save you $20-25!

Great accommodations, made me feel safe during some unplanned trip delays. The staff was very professional and willing to answer all my questions. Their American cordinator Kelly was the best. She was often found at all hours providing support and engaging with the residents. We killed a lot of time watching american tv during lockdown. Would return again and would definitely recommend to anyone.

Good option for a low budget stay in Auckland, but not a very convenient place if you want a place to actually rest after a long flight if you just landed in NZ. The positive: The location is very good, as it's a breath away from Queen's street, which has a lot of shops. It's also quite close to the ferry port. The staff were friendly and the overall vibe was nice however. The hostel was full of young people and at night there were people in the reception floor drinking and having fun. The negative: The dorm rooms I stayed was quite small and the bed was really small and uncomfortable (at least for tall people). There was no water tap and soap in the toilets on my floor, just alcohol pumps, which I felt was a bit inconvenient. If you wanted to wash your face or brush your teeth you had to do this in the shower or in the toilet of the reception floor. The verdict: If you are in the mood of socializing and partying, then this is a good place, but if you want a place to relax look elsewhere.

Great location for a couple of nights in the city.. Building is old and at night it is noisy but as it in the CBD it is to be expected! Helpful staff especially the Irish girl who helped us out on the reception & the with the $3 beers you can’t really go wrong.

Really cheap when I got to book here. Staff/reception are great, with basic breakfast offeted that I didn't get to try. Only problem was the noise from the street through the windows, really bothersome. And beds kinda creaky, wobbly as I only got a top bunk bed having checked in late.

Only stayed one night but was thoroughly impressed. Better than Frienz round the corner. Plugs at every bed and free WiFi available (worked fine, too). Rooms were clean and tidy, as were bathrooms. Showers separate from each other and the toilets. Free breakfast in the morning was basic but useful for an early start. Great location too, and the noise wasn’t too bad. Only real negative was the lack of lockers in rooms for personal items/valuables.

A place full of wonderful and warm people that are more than willing to help you. It's a clean, organized and perfectly located hostel. I highly recommend it ❣️

Only had a night or two, but it was cheaply priced which drew me in, and in a great location for exploring the city by day or night. Nothing either surpassed nor fell below my expectations for a room shared with 4 others other than potentially a little bit of noise outside the window (but it is the city, so I understand). Staff was pretty friendly, but it all did seem a little worn inside the main lobby and hallways. I'd still suggest it if I knew someone was looking for a downtown hostel.

Has all the basic needs and wants. Ideal location, and clean dorms, kitchen etc. The 3 stars is more about minor annoyances. My friend and wanted a quiet game of pool instead of going out just after midnight and were told no pool after midnight because it’s too loud and wakes people up, hilarious. The lady at reception merely speaking to me telling me I couldn’t play is more loud than the contact of the balls in a game of pool. Things like this need a rethink for the full 5* review. Would come back though

Overall i liked this hostel, it's central, free breakfast and free WiFi in the rooms. They upgraded us to a three bedroom which was great. It's an older hostel but one of the cheapest in town so we didn't mind. Would stay again and would recommend.

This is a good location for a single person who would like to explore Auckland for a few days. Location is in city centre so all places are in talking distance from this place which is very convenient and will save lots of money since bus fare is huge. And this is a clean and tide place, you will be provided breakfast for me it was really helpful as I don't need to go out for my breakfast early morning.

Rooms are totally normal hostel quality, nothing particularly special, but after staying a few places in Auckland this was the one we came back to because the staff were friendlier than everywhere else in Auckland, free wifi, the common spaces better used, and even though we are in our 30s and not coming to hostels to find a party or meet folks necessarily, it turns out having a friendly atmosphere and plenty of common space really counts for something when you're traveling! The staff do a great job here.

Stayed in an 8 bed hostel room (turned out to only have 7). Price wasn't horrible for downtown Auckland. No ac so all the windows were open and had to try and sleep through the sound of Auckland nightlife. The facilities are pretty worn in, but still functioning. It's a standard, lived in, used hostel. If you need a centrally located hostel and have low expectations of having your minimums covered, you're good to go. Nothing to write home about though. You get a bed, a bathroom, a working shower; no frills.

Good place to stay near the Auckland harbour, very alive, a little noisy at night because of PUB and night life. Good place to meet travellers. Food market next to it twice the week. Alright breakfast free.

I don’t know why reviews r so bad and what ppl expect from cbd cheap hostel. It’s ok place to stay for 1-2 nights, it’s central, has free breakfast & free WiFi! Yes, not very clean, but if u want clean, pay 40$ for a bed and don’t stay in city center. Lots of showers/toilets, kitchen is ok, clean! Great place for that money!

Stairs! No elevators in multi level building. Average - slightly cramped dorm rooms with little or no storage space in rooms. Kitchens are well equipped. Friendly staff. Bathrooms - showers randomly scattered throughout levels and ok.

Decent hostel in an extremely central location. Unfortunately the building is slightly old and also they have a no alcohol policy. However I can recommend the opportunely located KFC next door for some sneaky bevaccinos if you know what I'm saying.

Very central location and with breakfast, although a very basic one. The common area is not really nice to hang out in, the kitchens are not very clean and in general it is rather run down. Still good value for the price and location though.

The staffs here are very friendly. I had this situation where I booked a room for 7 days but after 3 days I had to go to Norsewood. The staff gave me a receipt/coupon that I just need to show so I can continue the days I have left once I'm back in auckland. I also like that the dorm beds got this curtains for some little privacy.

Quite nice hostel, with an excellent location with a 5 minutes walk to the piers, sky tower, it is right in queens street, airport bus stop is right in the corner. Large common room.. at night it may get a bit noisy as there are a couple of bars right outside of the hostel but so far it was good!

+++ Located in the heart of the city, low price. I gave 3 stars due to following reasons. -- Staff was not pleasing, I had to sit aside for about 30 min (it was around at 11pm) near the reception desk in order to check-in as she was playing some game with somebody. - The cloak room was provided for free. But it was not clean and smelling like dead rodent.

Its one if my favourite Hostels in the world - ever! I stayed here for more than 20 months and had an amazing time with amazing people!

I stayed here long term when I first arrived to New Zealand, and while is not the most modern it's definitely a good place to stay if you're on a budget but want to make the most of Auckland's CBD.

Its a good place but the room I stayed was nothing like the ones in the pictures. The whole place is very old an in the web it looked brand new, shiny and modern.

Average hostel. They have breakfast in the morning, location is good, I like the pool tables... Everything is quite old, staff seems to be a bit over overchallenged.

Beds were laid out. Kitchen mostly clean and staff helped us whenever needed. WiFi was good in the morning, but overloaded in the evening.
