Attended a 65th birthday party here. Great place for an intimate function. Food was okay but can probably be improved. Pork belly skin wasn't crunchy so a bit of a let down. Tofu was ok but maybe some additional flavours of sesame or ginger can lift up the dish.

The Spencer hotel is situated in a good location with beautiful views. The room was very clean and comfortable. We really enjoyed the restaurant food and has a great menu. Excellent food, great service and cool atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely return. Highly recommend this place to everyone.

Was clean and tidy but like so many hotels they believe a coat of paint will fix everything.
Hence the 3 stars

great views from our room. it was nicely appointed and clean. I was quite impressed. until I hit the shower. the shower head leaked so pressure was bad. the water was tepid warm certainly not a hot shower. the towels were what I would call skinny, not light and fluffy as you would expect from 4.5 star. staff at check in were in training but did a good job. we ate in at the restaurant. I thought the mains were a bit pricey but the food was good as was the portion sizes. wait staff were pleasant and attentive. parking was ok although one of our party who had booked parking missed out for some reason. easy walking distance to the Bruce Mason centre and the concert we were going to. I would stay there again.

Great renovated rooms. Bedroom with seperate kitchen and separate lounge and ensuite bathroom with bath and shower. Reception is very friendly with good quick check in. Clean rooms with lovely bed. Kitchen even has washing machine and tumble dryer, oven and stove. Great place to stay and financially affordable. Highly recommended

Very clean and tidy and comfortable with everything you need. Restaurant food and menu was good, nice pool and gym, perfect location for everything. If you want a nice Hotel where you can shop in central Takapuna as well as just pop over the bridge to Auckland that is not shabby by any means and has everything provided, is affordable and great all round then this is a good choice for personal and business stays. We got an excellent deal and service and the place is just perfect for us! Highly recommend this Hotel and we will likely be frequent customers.

Everything depends on the room you get. While all seem clean and comfortable, the difference lies in staring at the tennis court from 2m away in the cheapest option, to having the commanding view of Auckland CBD and Hauraki gulf from the top floor rooms. It's night and day, really. Service is friendly and efficient.

Have stayed here multiple times now and always enjoyed my stay. Rooms are spacious with all modern amenities. Great view from the room. The restaurant and bar in the hotel is verh convenient. Very delicious food and great options of deserts and drinks. Staff in hotel and restaurant both are very polite and friendly. Will definitely stay here again.

This place is very flash. A bar and restaurant on the 1st floor, a pool & spa, gym and tennis court on 2nd floor and very nice rooms. They offer room service and the staff are very nice. 1 minute walk to the shops and eatery's. Countdown, petrol station, Takapuna beach and North shore hospital are close by. I loved staying there!

Pool was closed for renovations but no mention of this on their website or when booking, our rooms had a weird whistle throughout the whole room due to design of the building if windows were left open and was slightly breezy. The night we stayed there was only one brand of cold beers at the bar at 5PM and a work party was being held in the function room which you could hear the thumping of the music in the room until the early hours. Rooms themself were very clean and beds were comfortable, room service was prompt and food was tasty as well.

One of the best hotels we stayed in on our Australia New Zealand tour back in 2012. Every thing is good about this hotel. The rooms are very spacious, with their own kitchen equipped with oven, dishwasher, fridge, sink etc. A sitting area with large window. The Double bed is large with spacious bathroom. There is a patio outside bedroom, giving you spectacular views of Auckland city, different at night and day. You can even see Auckland bay area and the sky tower and also the tennis courts down from it. And if you are a smoker like me it gives you additional advantage to smoke sitting there relaxed, as you can't smoke in the room. The reception staff and room service is good and friendly. Breakfast is nice. As I said it was a good experience staying in this hotel.👌🏼👍🏻

Thanks to The Spencer on Byron Management for prompting me to look at this review. The original 1 star review started as I spent a significant amount of time at the counter attempting to check in with little communication or result. However after time it became clear that it wasn't entirely the hotels fault, as details had not been passed on from the event I was attending, subsequently I paused completing the review. Although it seems in absence of completing the review, it inadvertently was posted. A 1 star was not appropriate in the circumstance. However that , still doesn't entirely diminish the fact, problem resolution at the check-in counter is poor. I had to explain the situation to three different people, none of whom communicated clearly on what was happening, which took the better part of half an hour, with no real result, and still had to complete it later in the afternoon. While not their mistake, I would go so far as none of the staff involved had a great handle on solving the problem, or where to look in their system to resolve it. Frustration builds very quickly when communication is poor, with no result in sight. In terms of the rest of the experience, the hotel is nice enough, showing some signs of age here and there., but generally comfortable enough. Value equation seems good on the whole, provided the check in process has no speed bumps, which seems to be missing strategies to get past.
