L.The sheets and towels were stained almost more than I could bear, but they smelled and felt clean, and what do you do at that point anyway? The front office was nice enough to give me new towels on request as ours were full of lint. Maybe travel with one of those silk sheet bags?
That being said .... the location is great I slept well and the shower was very good.
We were in room #4 the private family room with a queen size bed and a bunk bed, we had our own en suite bathroom. The other smaller private rooms seemed like ours, clean but old. The whole hostel including our room is dated and worn. The carpet in our room was clean, there was a new stainless steel shower base we were standing on so I felt better about the bathroom. We had french doors that opened onto a small deck with a couple stairs down to the back communal patio and two windows that opened. There was no table or chair and only the overhead light but there was a dresser and two bed tables to put our stuff on, there were 3 electrical plugs in our room.
There is an old communal kitchen, a nothing special small lounge area with sofas crammed in, and a laundry area. The outside patio has 3 large picnic tables and is very pleasant though all afternoon there were guest laundry racks at the far end.
The front desk person has been very pleasant, the other guest seem content. The price was good for the location.
V.Everything in its place. Very comfortable and calm place. A lot of fridges for the food, nice living room and things are always cleaned up in the kitchen. But the best of all is the people in there, from the reception to the guys who have been there for weeks. Good place :)
M.Kitchen is well equipped but absolutely tag your food items, even if you just store them for an hour. No sinks in toilets or showers, only in the rooms. Not the cleanest hostel but OK, looks a bit shabby. Rooms to the front suffer a bit from the street. Nice BBQ area in the backyard.
D.Stayed in this hostel for 6 months! Was a great hostel to stay in and met a lot of good people over the months! Sona and staff were very accommodating and helpful! Loved our stay here and will definitely be back! Nice homely feeling!
U.Very nice and cozy hostel, awesome and super friendly staff, fast and free internet in every corner of the hostel. Lovely garden and free parking. Everything is clean and they really try to make you feel welcome and at home.
Great experience and would definitely recommend it to others!
y.By far the best hostel in Auckland so far and I've stayed at 5 of them. Not really a party hostel but still enough social drinking to satisfy you. People are great and staff friendly
R.We were waiting more than a half our for check in. We were booked a double bed room an we were told that is a bunk bed room, if we don't like we can go somewhere else. The room itself was alright for the price. However, we couldn't drink a cup of coffee before our flight early in the morning because the kitchen is closed between around 10pm to 6am.
V.As a long term resident (6 months), I found Uenuku to be a great base in Auckland.The location is fantastic with all the buzz of Ponsonby Road right on the door step and a great sunset view! Sure the place is old and well -lived in but it was comfortable with a nice friendly and relaxed ambience. The Manager, Sona, is a great host and always goes the extra mile to look after the guests and cater to their needs..The parking area is a bonus and a hive of activity for new guests checking out each other's new camper vans and exchanging travel tips over a beer at sunset. I would recommend Uenuku to anyone looking for a real kiwi backpackers lodge experience!
C.It's a quite familial hostel with all importent facilities. It's pretty central in Ponsenby with a free car park. The room have got lockers and a washbasin, no sink in the bathrooms. The wifi is good. I was always a happy visitor. I would return.
D.I stayed at this place a month ago and experienced it as a friendly spirited place with a tidy environment and facilities. The manager is taking great care of the hostel and the guests.
And because of that i came back two days ago and it is still the same friendly spirited place and a great hostel!
L.Very basic backpackers but in fairness very cheap. A lot of long stayers so people working as well as travelling. Started getting 'shushed' around 10pm. Good kitchen facilities, communal tv area - most likely occupied by regulars. About 10/15 min walk to the harbour.
A.Good budget hostel with nice staff. There's free WiFi and you have a bus stop just 20 meters near the door. The kitchen is quite narrow, which is problematic when there's a lot of people.
S.This hostel is in a great location and only minutes to the CBD. The staff and guests all relaxed and friendly, very similar to a large shared house. I would recommend this hostel to both families and individual travellers!
J.I liked very much of my stay in there, the beds were really good, quiet place despite of the fact of beeing close to the city, the price was also really good, plus the fact that you know a bunch of new people and feel like one big family. :D
J.Incredibly nice atmosphere and placement however the hostel could have done with some maintenance and the room was quite crowded. Get what you pay for so recommend if you need a cheap place to stay
L.I especially loved the friendly atmosphere in the hostel, and the area where it is located. Also the house and outside area are relatively spacious, which is really nice as well.
