Lovely, relaxing home/ hostel. It has homely feel with a large kitchen dinning room and a big, cosy living room. The kitchen is fully stocked with the basics to …

Would have been nice to have had a slightly later check out than 10am, say 11ish. However we were picking up our campervan so we were keen to get on the road and start our adventure..

Very calm, colorful and cozy. It doesn't feel like a business but more like a big shared house. A good change from the crowded backpackers. The owners try to …

Would probably need a couple more storage or hooks to hang clothes/towels in the shared room as all of our stuff was just lying on the floor ^^ But honestly …

what should I say about this place to put it in the right spot?
This place is awesome, the owner is a kind and smart guy who always takes his time to have a chat with you. The house is clean and compare to other hostels nice and quite with a great working kitchen. (fresh eggs and herbs are even in the garden! The rooms are cozy with single beds not packed like in every other hostel. It's just a great place to stay for a day or a month.
I miss this place now already but I will definitely come back if my travels ever bring me back to Christchurch!

It’s was super comfy and really felt like home. The kitchen was super clean and loved the lounge room couches.

The room I was in was very musty and needed a good air out. It was very stuffy and found it hard to sleep at night. Also one of the people in the room seemed to …

The fact that I stayed in this hostel for 3.5 months says a lot already but I should probably explain a little more.. If you stay in Chester Street you can be sure that you’re located very central, but also close to some nature like a park next door. It’s a nice neighborhood so don’t worry about any constant noises or crime that could bother you. The house itself is very clean (s/o to the great staff 😉) and couldn’t be more cozy! But the one thing that really makes you feel like home are the amazing people that stay there! Shoutout to the Chester Street Family and to all the lovely people I got to meet during my stay! Thanks for everything guys 🙏 Oh and shoutout to Antony and Karen, you guys rock!! 😉

Really cosy hostel, with a nice living room, a big kitchen and even a back garden with a BBQ! Anthony and Karen are very nice and helpfull and Pipi the cat is adorable. All that for a really good price, I totally recommend to book there ;).

Cozy, little, homey hostel which feels much more like a shared flat than a regular hostel, as the max number of beds in a room is 3. The rooms are all decorated very homely. The staff is very caring and friendly and provides good insider tips about what to do in Christchurch and around. City Center is at walking distance which makes it very easy to discover the city. When the sun is shining – which did very often while I was there – it is great to sit outside in the little garden (: I’ll definitely stay again at Chester Street, when I come back to Christchurch!

Really lovely backpackers, smaller and a bit more homely than others. Clean and tidy, staff are really friendly and helpful. Beautiful font and back gardens, couple of bbqs and some friendly chickens. It's not far from town and in a nice residential area. Glad we stayed here😊

Rooms, showers and bathrooms were quite clean, and the atmosphere is nice. The whole place was pretty cold though...and the kitchen towels were needing a wash. If you're really alergic to cats don't stay here. There is one sweet gray cat that wanders about.

I couldn’t have asked or honestly expected a better experience than what I received with Antony buying a backpacker van. He was quick to respond, has loads to chose from, and is just a really lovely human being. He easily could have taken advantage of my lack of knowledge in vehicle mechanics (As is so often done) but instead even took his time to teach me and show me signs and things to look for when buying a used car and helped me pinpoint the best van that suited my needs. Not only does he do a WOF and rego on the day of purchase, but he also signs ya up with a 500 km guarantee. I was just so humbled with the care and consideration, the patience and the sincerity in my interactions with this business. 10/10 would use again and I recommended him to many friends I met on the road. Thanks again!

Came back to Chester three times during my travels in NZ. Probably because it feels more like a home then a hostel. Good location close to city centre, but in a quiet street. Perfect place to stay if you are looking to buy yourself a car/van, since the owner is a licensed motor vehicle trader!

One of the best hostel I stayed in New-Zealand ! I really feel at home because it is a little house, and so it is easier to meet the others backpackers. The house is nice and clean with a great garden. And the cat is so cute!

You felt just right at home. It is an old house, just rebuild as a backpackers, so it's a bit cold in the winter because of the missing insolation. Still, you really felt welcomed, the kitchen was big with lots of free stuff to use, the living room was nice and cuddly. Just a perfect place to stay

Best place in Christchurch. Little tiny, clean and lovely house, feels from the first minute like home. 10 minutes walk to the city Centre. Quit and nice street with free parking. Very socializing because of this private atmosphere. Most beautiful cat and most funniest and greatest staff/manager/owner in the world.
And you could buy or sell cars from this place. Great opportunity to start the travel in new zealand!

I liked this hostel a lot as it is a very social place. I felt home quite fast because it is very cosy and the staff is really nice. everything is clean and the rooms are comfortale and nice. It's in a peacful quarte of christchurch near the city center (5-10min to walk).

The best hostel in Christchurch! Small and quaint. A nice homely feel. Friendly owners and staff. And of course there's the adorable house cat Pipi.

Don't buy a camper van from the guy at this place! There are other reviewers who fell for his car deal. He has a buddy doing fake WOFs and when you turn up to a proper WOF later you find out it's a total death trap you've been driving. Stay safe people! Avoid this man! DONT BUY A CAR FROM THEM!

Nice old heritage house. Small place with cute rooms & shared facilities. A little updating would make it shine. Very helpful staff, especially as we checked in very late.

I was buying a car from the owner. He is extremely helpful, really goes above and beyond. I also spent some time in the lounge and with the staff and everything is friendly, clean, homey, and welcoming.

Really nice hostel in an old house. Good location and friendly staff. Clean and easy with a good kitchen and everything you need.
