I.Nice size and atmosphere, came here for knee surgery and everything has been quite accessible, we stayed in the family room and its a great size for the price. Sweet location around the corner from a bunch of restaurants as well as Hagley park. Just met the owner and his super cute dog and everybody has been super friendly and welcoming. Would 10/10 come back here and reccomend!

Kiwi Basecamp has a very kiwi welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. The owner / operators are really nice people,
always super polite, friendly and helpful.
G.Perfect location close to parks, restaurants, museums, and bars. Near bus lines that take you anywhere you want around town. Chris was also very welcoming host. Would recommend for both long and short term stay.

R.One of the best Hostels I have been, in New Zealand! The Reception is so friendly kitchen rooms and bathrooms were all very clean, and there is free freshly baked bread every morning. On top of that, the wifi is very very good and there is a chill area with games and a TV with many movies on it. Best Hostel so far. 👏☺️
R.One of the best hostels I've stayed at, and I would highly recommend it! Friendly staff, cool atmosphere and the location is great. Another good thing is that every bed has its own charging station and you can charge your phone right next to you and not in the other corner of the room. It also have proper free wifi, you just connect and stay connected, not like other hostels that give you an access code which is only 1GB for a week.... If I go back to Christchurch this is the hostel I would stay at!
E.Wonderful place, with wonderful people in abundance. Very clean, fun lounges with guitars, games, and reading material. Covered outdoor area is great for meeting other travelers and general revelry. The bathrooms are very clean, and the showers are amazing. Such high water pressure! Enough of them that I never had to wait to use one! The toilets show a red color when in use, but it seems they can still be opened, so be careful of that. Or maybe I just didn't lock it correctly. Oh, you wanted to know about the rooms? Also great! Plenty of space - I think a lot of hostels would've tried to squeeze in another bunk bed, but instead it's quite comfortable. Also feels very safe, as there's a different code to get into each room. Location is also great. Close to the city center, but also not quite in it, so it's an easy walk around without being loud late at night. And the staff is also super friendly and helpful. Many of them are travelers working part-time while staying. Altogether top-notch place!
A.Such a fun, lively group here at the hostel! Sat down this morning before I left and had some breakfast with the night manager and owner. The owner is very down to earth and the workers are very fun. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen is great! There lounge area is a great place to just chill and have a good time at/play games. They have local guides and books as well so you can easily find something to do!

M.Great place. There is fresh bread in the morning and pasta in the evening. The workers are really friendly and the other guests from the hostels are really friendly as well. The price is really good for all the service you get here. 10/10 would stay there again.
M.Average hostel with average staff. Rooms were bare, seemed new, but still managed to be a bit dirty.
Using a security pin for all of the doors is a terrible idea. I went back 2-3 weeks later (had forgotten a drink bottle of mine) and just used the code and went right in the front door and the kitchen.
C.Nice place to stay. Been there in 2013 for few nights and all I can say is I had a relaxing time there. Kitchen is not too bad but at that time, I remember the stove was not really practical... Anyway, place was clean, beds were OK, householders were kind and I met good people over there!
M.Clean, comfortable, great atmosphere. I was actually really impressed with the showers; they had a perspex lid on the shower cubicle so the rest of the room does get all steamy/wet/mouldy. And they provide fresh bread for breakfast.
E.Very clean hostel and friendly employees. We stayed at the private room so we don't know how the dorms are. The bread in the morning was very good, especially when you're from the Netherlands and been on the road from some time :) would def stay here again
M.Staff was so nice and accommodating and the fresh baked bread in the mornings was delicious. The beds and bathrooms were clean. There is an awesome community vibe from everyone staying.
E.Really nice hostel with friendly people, good facilities and also clean. Also nice that it's not too big, gives a bit of a home feel to it. Not too far from the city center. Really nice common areas (in and outside), nice to play games with other people in the hostel.

J.Wonderful..and the best place for me to start my NZ adventure. I would have loved to have stayed for 2 weeks but could only stay a short time. Yes, fresh bread, 2 kitchens, staff who can't do enough for you. and so the list goes on. Clean sheets everyday, clean toilets and showers daily.. If you are polite with manners then you'll be treated likewise, but if you are rude and expect waiters you won't find them here.
Small homely and very comfortable and I would recommend Kiwi Base Camp to anyone as a place to stay and chill out. I'm 58 and an older backpacker who thoroughly enjoyed staying there.
D.Great hostel, one of the best i've ever been. friendly staff free wifi, coffee, tea, homemade bread in the morning. Everything is really clean, always warm inside and a great atmosphere all times! Totally recomended
A.Kiwi Base camp is a fun place, so if you are looking for a quiet place to rest, this is not the best option, but if you are looking for a place to hang out with music and fun travellers, this is a good spot.
They have multiple common areas and a nice patio outside, great for sunny days. The beds are very comfortable and each bed has its own charging facility, including a USB plug, so you won't even need an adaptor.
The rooms are on the small side and the windows in the rooms don't open fully, so if there is someone in the room with smelly socks you are going to be stuck with the dank smell. They did however move me to a different room.
The location is alright, although staying at one of the two YHA's or the YMCA will be closer to the museum's and botanical gardens.
What makes this place special is their home made bread, baked freshly every morning and offered for free. Unfortunately, the day I was there, the bread wasn't ready by 8am, and if you want to catch a bus to any surrounding sites of interest such Hanmer Springs, Kaikoura or Akaroa, you will need to leave just after eight to catch the 8:30 bus from in front of the Museum.
The place is very popular and fully booked very often, so advance booking is necessary, especially on weekends!
R.Clean hostel with free wifi. The bread in the morning tastes great. Beautiful outdoor seating. About 15 min walk to city centre which is quite nice if you walk along the park.

O.(Translated) So this hostel is amazing! Not only that, it is very clean. Toilets, showers and kitchens everything was great. Price performance is great, you get in the morning fresh bread (two sorts!) For breakfast and in the evening a noodle casserole for dinner. The staff is also friendly and helpful. The location is also good, you can easily walk to the city center, just walk through the great park "BotanicGarden".
It is a pity only that it is in Christchurch and not in one of the nicer cities Nz. : D

Also diese Hostel ist der Wahnsinn!!! Nicht nur, dass es sehr sauber ist. Toiletten, Duschen und Küchen alles top. Preisleistung ist supper, man bekommt morgens frisches Brot (zwei Sorten!) zum Frühstück und abends einen Nudelauflauf zum Abendessen. Das Personal ist ebenso freundlich und hilfsbereit. Die Lage ist auch gut, man kommt gut zu Fuß in die Innenstadt, einfach nur durch die tolle Parkanlage "BotanicGarden" laufen.
Schade ist nur daran, dass es in Christchurch ist und nicht in einer der schöneren Städte Nz. :D

An einer verkehrsreichen Straße gelegen, Oropax einpacken! Zumindest in meinem 4er-Zimmer gab es nur Deckenbeleuchtung und keine separate am Bett; Licht an, Licht aus ist die Folge. Ansonsten sauber, schnelles WLAN und sehr nah zum Botanischen Garten.
