My Nan called, she said her coffin is more comfortable than the beds here. Overall the rooms are a nice size, the noise of traffic is horrific, but good location and close to lots of things. 👌🏼

rooms were clean/hygenic and newly renovated (looked like we were the first to stay), staff were friendly and helpful, and the premises had space for large campervan parking. cozy space and basic amenities provided. we were even kindly offered an upgrade! was a bit worried after reading other reviews but looks like they have definitely improved and we had nothing to worry about.

DO NOT STAY HERE!! ||||upon our short 4 hour stay and this premises, we were verbally abused threatened, our privacy was violated as our bags had all be opened and rummaged through, along with the inhuman living facilities. ||||We arrived at the southern comfort motel on the 03/02/2024, we had left our bags with the staff at reception as we had arrived before our check in time, when we returned to check in our luggage was returned open, we decided this may have just be an accident and decided to let it go, we got to our room which was filthy, extremely outdated and falsely advertised, we were all a bit disappointed, there was only one roll of half used toilet paper, no hand soap, the phone in the room was broken along with the tv which had no remote and buttons on the side of the tv were all broken, we decided to query this with the management staff as to whether we could change rooms, for raising this legitimate complaint we in turn we received verbally absusive language by staff, we were told to f**k off, stay somewhere else to which we were shocked and expressed we shouldn’t be spoken to like that, the manager then proceed to say we were smoking in the room and he had cctv inside the room, none of us are smokers and cctv footage inside the room is an invasion of privacy, when asked to produce proof of this so called footage the owner declined to show this. We asked the manager to calm down to which he threatened to fight us and claim we are not women women are gods and we are dirt. We felt so uncomfortable and shocked that we decided to request and refund to stay elsewhere to which to management declined and told us he was going to trespass us, at no point did we partake in any aggressive behaviour with the staff so we were incredibly shocked. ||||Only one telling the manager police have been called did he produce a partial refund. ||||Please do not support such a disgusting business, if you do decide to stay here I suggest not making any legitimate complaints. Lesson has now been learnt to read all reviews prior to staying as it appears similar behaviour has happened to many other customers.

The owner is probably Chinese , and would be friendlier if communicating in Chinese than in English. The room itself is big and clean, kitchen is well equipped, with 4 stoves and an oven. The motel is old and zero sound proof, we could always hear people talking from next door. It has been refurnished recently though (2 months ago according to the owner). The oil painting smells very very bad (both in hall way and inside the room), luckily the weather is warm and we can open some windows. The bathroom and toilette is freezing!!!

The room we stayed in was in tired condition was not like the pictures when booking. Cutlery was dirty when we went to use it. Also noticed there was only a small mirror next to the sink, which was difficult to use. I dont think the stay was worth the money in comparison to other accommodations nearby.

Clean, modern motel about 30min walk from Chch Hospital. It is quite loud but that's to be expected as it's on a main road. My only criticisms are that the curtains are very thin and let a lot of light in at night and that the bathroom in the room I stayed in needed some paint touch ups. Room was otherwise great and very clean! Lovely, accommodating staff who were very kind. Would definitely stay again.

Don’t be fooled by the good location, it’s not worth it! Like many other reviews …. that I did not check before staying here🤦🏻‍♀️. This place will rip you off!! No deposit … lie, they will take $100 out of your bank account before you get here. Then they will accuse you of damaging things, noise or what ever else they can do so they can take more money out of your account. Mine was additional $200 after leaving. Do not hand your card details over this allows them to take money from your account. They are scary people here. Not joking… the language and threats that came from this man’s mouth is exactly what others have said. It’s appalling!!’

A highly recommended motel. The staff were friendly and professional while our room, although older, had been refurbished so had everything we needed and was very comfortable. Location is brilliant and it was nice that there were so many restaurants within walking distance. A really great price. I will stay again.

The reviews of this place are really bad but we had a great experience here! The lady that checked us in and was on reception the whole time we were there (Sheena) was super friendly and helpful! We were able to walk into the cbd in about 20/25 mins, the only thing we would note is that the wifi was not amazing otherwise couldn’t fault it!

Stayed at this motel for 3 nights. Great location & easy walk to the city. Room was really clean when we arrived. Spa bath was amazing & shower pressure in bathroom great. A little disappointed at the noise however. Not too bad from the street but the outdoor spa was outside our room & left on all night. It was super loud. The pillows on the bed were also awful so we didn't sleep very well. We also only had half a roll of toilet paper in our room with no spares so had to use tissues until the cleaner came the next afternoon. And our rubbish bin wasn't emptied the whole time we were there. The only other thing we noticed was the sign on the wall saying you weren't allowed to cook very aromatic foods in the kitchen....but the extraction fan above the stove top wasn't vented outside....it only went back into the room itself so I'm not sure how you're supposed to avoid cooking smells! Overall not a bad motel for the price & nothing major wrong, just a few wee things that when added up make a difference! Also the swimming pool as advertised wasn't full - it was empty & full of dirt/leaves etc.

Great location but the rooms seriously need updating and a decent clean.There was blood splatter on the bedroom wall, reported it to reception, first told to wipe it off then they came and did it. Bathroom disgusting as per photos. Needs serious attention

This hotel is in a good location on the edge of the CBD and on several bus routes. There's a supermarket a fifteen minute walk away. Also close to Hagley Park and the Botanic Gardens. Checkin was friendly and efficient.||I thought the room was good value for the price. The kitchen had everything I needed (pots, pans, plug in hotplate and microwave). New mattress to sleep on and great water pressure in the shower. The decor is a little dated and worn round the edges but it did the job for one night.||My room was at the back of the motel so noise wasn't too bad. However the rooms aren't too well soundproofed so pack some earplugs if this is an issue.||Would definitely stay here again.

Located in the corner of a very busy intersection absolutely nothing was done to reduce, traffic noise or lights. We heard gearing up to take off and gearing down to stop at lights all night. Could not sleep, or hear the television. Heating was appalling, comfort was third world. I would never have stayed there if I new how awful it was

We rented an apartment on two occasions with our infant. The place was huge and had all the things we expected. Hotel staff were friendly. Lots of parking. Great overall experience!!!!!!! Would 10/10 come back to this place again- great location too.

We stayed here because price was cheaper than most for a two room setting but was so noisy with traffic noise and noise from neighbouring unit - walls are paper thin. ||The lock on the balcony door was broken so if you went out and door shut behind you - you would be in trouble if no-one inside to allow you access back in, mentioned it to staff but they didn’t seem to care.||Parking over crowded so get in early.||If you don’t mind noise and average facilities the price will suit you.

I rated high due to convenience of being able to walk into the centre of town and to an event in Hagley Park. Hardly heard traffic noise from our room on the second floor. Room was very small, when you pulled the couch out for leg room there was rubbish still in there from previous bookings. The bed was hard and very uncomfortable.

Modern feeling room with huge amounts ta of space. Everything you need in the rooms. Genuinely good value. Wonderful location. Truly helpful staff. Only possible negative is, as a 6"1 rugby player the shower was a little snug. But well made up for by its power and ease of getting the right temperature.

Rude & unprofessional staff!||Took $100 without any warning for a "damage deposit". Got that back but sounds like they try scam people to keep "deposit". ||Tried to process a payment AFTER we paid in full. So glad that didn't work 4 them! ||She canceled my booking b4 I could do review on booking.com ||DON'T GO HERE!

Checked in late and the process was very smooth and easy and we were provided a small bottle of milk at checkin. The rooms were comfortable; the downstairs unit had separate bathroom and living area, full oven and stove top plus pots pans and serving utensils for cooking, microwave and fridge plus tea, instant coffee, plunger coffee (and plunger provided) and hot chocolate. The extractor fan in the bathroom wasn't working and the shower took some figuring out, but that did not take away from the lovely experience.

I liked the staff and the comfortable bed. The shower knob was a bit awkward, but not a huge complaint. Kitchen was fantastic. The wifi was great, but kept on dropping out from time to time. When the cleaners came in to clean, my bed wasn’t arranged, but my cousins bed was (in the same room). That is what I call ignorance

Really friendly staff, check-in process was easy, and fast. Rooms very clean, awesome shower pressure. The motel was within good walking distance to the city, and local attractions. I appreciated the easy car parking on-site, and fast internet. Very good value.

The place itself was good, good spacious rooms and it was nice and clean. The staff at reception could definitely be warmer and more welcoming. Had very loud people park the campervan outside our windows, they were making noise all night long. I suggested to have no parking signs there, but not sure if they understood what u was saying.

Good motel, booked 2 bedroom apartment and was very impressed with the space and amenities in the rooms. Warm bedding and heaters in every room. Double shower with ample hot water. Ground floor so was safe for kids. Close 2 everything, would definitely recommend.

Location was standard for any motel, and easily accessible. When entering the room, although it initially looked quite nice through the TV and room furnishings, it was noted that the carpets and couches were filthy, to the point where we didn't want to walk around without shoes on. Some spots of the floor had visible stain marks and were sticky to the touch.

Stayed here for electric avenue with a few friends, the staff are super friendly and kind, water pressure in the shower is amazing and rooms have alot of space ! We dont have a credit card and had to pay a $100 bond which was no problem and was returned to us quickly after check out 10/10 would highly recommend !

We stayed here for 4 nights while in Christchurch for a sports tournament. The room was clean and warm and we weren't bothered by any traffic noise - you could hear sirens around but you expect that in a city. We had everything we needed and would happily stay here again with our family.

Friendly staff and adequate rooms but could do with more maintenence as fan ducting configuration in kitchen was visible above cupboards and was held together with black tape, also the carpet and tiles had a big between them which was filled by duct tape.

Price very well for the comfort that it provides a bit dated and a few blemishes on the walls the heater worked well to heat the unit. Don't book this place if you expect the Ritz also the free Wi-Fi is not reliable at all almost non existent. Make sure you have your own data.

Southern Comfort Motel was honestly the best motel I have been to while traveling New Zealand! The staff are extremely polite, there is a good sized pool to cool off in and where do I even start with the rooms?? The beds are extremely comfortable, there are 50+ channels in the TV , and the Wi-Fi is pretty good too!! I would definitely recommend this motel to travellers who are planning to stay in Christchurch!!!! 😊😂
