R.Was a little grubby, but if you're wanting the true dunnaz experience, this place was value for money and right in the heart of town. Saw heaps of hilarious student antics, very entertaining.

C.I have seen a few bad reviews on here RE the shared bathroom situation. Personally, I don't find it that intrusive. There are only two rooms connected to each kitchen and bathroom (at least in my unit there were) which meant that there wasn't really any issue with having to wait for the bathroom or anything, and you get what you pay for which in this case was a comfy bed and a kitchen / shared bathroom for a very cheap price very close to a whole bunch of convenient places
T.When my daughter & I stayed there JEAN and her colleagues were amazing. Jean's hospitality was superb. The price was awesome for the 4 days that we stayed there. The shared facilities were nice and clean, you could have a meal in the dining area with other guests that were staying there, or even have good conversations with them and Jean herself. I would definitely stay there again, if Jean is the one still hosting the place next time we go. Just to let yous know we stayed in the shared part of the motel not the apartment side, hence the reason why I said shared facilities. For my daughter & I we chose to stay here instead of a hostel for when we went down it was during orientation time for the uni. This is better than a hostel cause you get your own room with a locked door. Once again thank you so much Jean for the wonderful person you are, keep up the good work ☺️
C.We stayed in a self contained unit for 5 people.
We chose this place because we couldn't find other accommodation for 5 people. $828. The other reviews about it being old student accommodation are correct. It looks like it was built in the 1970s and very little has been done to it since then. As others said it was very annoying to have a toilet in bathroom with 5 people. No extractor fan or heater in bathroom. Water damage has been covered in tapes of various types.
At some point additional wall plugs have been added around the rooms. Unfortunately these chain off existing circuits. So we found for example we couldn't run microwave in kitchen with heater plugged in, in the lounge without popping the fuse.
No frypan so we bought one.
Close to main road and student flats but didn't stop us sleeping on Friday, Sat nights.
Pros - central location close to uni, town, 70s nostalgia, friendly hosts, close car park, beds ok, free wifi good, water pressure and shower good.
R.It's basic at best, luxury it is not, but sufficient for our needs to have a resting place at night. Suitable enough to return reach year. It has the basic needs with a small kitchenette (smoke alarm goes off quite easily unless you open doors), small table with 4 chairs to eat at, simple laundry area and bathroom (need to open the window for ventilation, and in fairness could do with a more thorough clean in the unseen areas). The rooms are serviced though. The beds are pretty soft but do the job, I've slept on worse. Lounge area has a 2 seater chair and couple of singles with a decent TV. Parking it tight around the driveway so do be careful.
R.If you are looking for a Great time and Great Price to stay with your family and your friends, Cumberland Motel will be a Wonderful choice. ❣️We paid $480 for 3 days, went on the 28th Sep 2020( first week of school holidays) , next day after we arrived it was a lovely snowing outside 💓 : in the little yard you will see a lots of different flowers 💐 singing a song and smiling to you 👻 quite and warm place to stay with my family👨👩👧. You can cook the 🍗food 🍠you love , share the 🍷love 🥂with your family 👨👩👧👦and 👫👩🏻🤝👩🏼friends. 👍I was recommended by one of my friend who went to Cumberland before and I already recommended to 2 different family friends while I was staying in Cumberland , wish they will enjoy the time as I did. Thank you Steven and Flora. ❤ Wish we will you soon in November 😆
A.Beautiful day in Dunedin and this place was just amazing very clean and warm and had everything I needed especially close to university to see our son.....I would diff 100% come back and love the service thank yu much appreciated and have a blessed day everyone 🤗
V.Love this place. Everything is of walking distance, shops, gardens, transport.etc Owners, Steve and his wife are awesome, Would definitely go back there next time my partner and I are, in Dunedin. Enjoyed our week stay here for sure.
D.We turned up and Steve was there to greet us. He showed us round and was in the top tiers of awesome. Basicly he was super friendly. (Steve seemed to be the manager/owner.)
Overall facilities were basic but everything was very clean and nicely laid out plus your right by town.
Can't really go wrong for a good cheap nights accom.
