S. P.Great hotel stay over New Year. Easy to find, car park is 27 dollars per day. In a good location near several tourist sites, museums and downtown. Easy access out to Otago Peninsula for all on offer there.
All staff exceptionally friendly. Breakfast was buffet style and a great choice of items. We had dinner on 2 nights including NY Eve when staff were working flat out but everything ran smoothly and food was delicious. Our room was really great with exceptionally comfy bed and wonderful shower.

D. I.We stayed and dined here for one night. Nice room, very good food, convenient location. We enjoyed drinks at the Post Bar and dinner and breakfast at Parcels Restaurant. All the highlights of this city are within easy reach so make the Distinction for your next trip to Dunedin and treat yourself to a stay here.
R. O.This Hotel is exceptional the Staff amazing Friendly's, warm and make you feel so Welcome. Check out the private Vault rooms there are 4x of them real Kool. Meals so yummy and delicious. Our Room is spacious very comfortable beds and huge. We are coming back again check out the 3bdrm suite so yes. It's central please bring good comfy shoes to walk in expect over 3hours of walk.
w. w.The old post office turned amazing hotel with modern lift but the old exterior is still preserved. Staff service is top class. Got free upgrade. Everything about this hotel is nothing short of perfect.
R. S.This hotel has some of the nicest rooms that we have stayed in the hundreds of hotels throughout the the Americas, Europe, and New Zealand. The rooms are nicely appointed and even have a washer and dryer and temperature controlled thermostat that works!

I was upgraded to an executive suite and was blown away, couch, kitchen washer AND dryer. Staff were lovely, room was clean. I had dinner at the restaurant and can highly recommend the steak. Rodney, my server was lovely and very hospitable. I will be staying here again! Thank you to the team.

From the reception staff to the restaurant team to house keeping, nothing is a problem and after charging around New Zealand for over a week my travellers love it that there is a washing machine and dryer IN EVERY ROOM!

I would just suggest to change the cold lights at the reception and restaurant area, to warm lights. It would give a more cozy atmosphere.
A. G.You definitely can't go wrong staying here. Even though I was only there overnight, I was welcomed by lovely front of house staff, that were extremely well presented and provided me with everything I needed.
The hotel is very immaculate, nicely lit, and very spacious with it's own restaurant and plenty of facilities.
The rooms are beautiful, nicely furnished, and the cleanest I've ever seen with plenty of space.
Absolutely no noise whatsoever meaning that you are guaranteed a good nights sleep in a very comfortable bed.

Both meals weren't the best, overcooked and tasteless and for the price, not value for money. Decor in the dining room was dated and worn. D.Thank you Distinction Dunedin for an absolutely awesome experience. The staff are 100% customer focused! The room was immaculate, the king size bed super comfortable. Huge ensuite, spotless and love the "push button' shower control with choice of rain or standard head. The buffet breakfast had an extensive selection to choose from. Dinner and dessert menu great. Steak and lamb divine, along with highly recommended brownie, sorbet or pineapple pudding 🍮 😋 lovely bar and wait staff, attentive and super helpful! Very highly recommended.

M.We booked two 1 bedroom studio rooms for a family event. The whole family were absolutely impressed with the Distinction experience. From the staff, ammenities, value and the room itself it was exceptional. Our rooms were studio with a separate bedroom containing 2 singles. As accommodation for 4 it was great value. We had a small kitchen with jug, toaster, microwave, and in the large bathroom was a washer and drier. The staff at all times were friendly, polite and courteous. We would certainly stay again.

The on,y downside is the breakfast is a bit average, good variety but the cooking could be a bit better.

The first time I have ever had a great sleep at a hotel, their beds and pillows are outstanding. The team were amazing , I arrived at midnight to be greeted with a friendly smile and a easy check in. The next morning the young lady in the restaurant and for both days I stayed were outstanding. She confirmed for me that good old fashion service, manners and genuine interest in their job still exists! Sorry I can't recall your name but I hope you see this message because you are a outstanding employee. The breakfast menu was excellent too. If you wanting to stay at very cool Hotel where you will be well looked after make a booking now!

A. W.After moving from a noisey Airbnb and The Fable hotel, I hoped for some peace and quiet at The Distinction. The rooms were quiet and spacious, just what the doctor ordered, until I went to lay down on the bed, holy crap it was bad. It was made up of 2 single beds joined together, which isn’t unusual, but you can’t normally feel the connection. The single beds on both sides sunk severely in the middle, then had a high solid ridge on the join down the middle of the bed, it was perhaps the most uncomfortable bed I’ve ever slept on. I slept upside down on one side to get a slightly firmer end to rest my back on. I was sick of moving so I persisted. Such a shame the rooms are great, the food is fantastic, just a big let down on the bed, which is easily fixed, update your mattresses!

Everything from the well-appointed suite with huge bathroom, superior bedding, extras like toaster and coffee machine (pods) and super comfy couch, to the unpretentious & warm reception, friendly & helpful room staff and outstanding service in the restaurant that had great atmosphere and some of the most delicious food we've had the pleasure of eating. Special thanks to Tom who did a fabulous job of looking after us throughout our Distinction dining experience, despite there being a couple of large groups also dining there on both evenings.
It's seriously refreshing to have such a warm, friendly and welcome experience in a big hotel like this. It will certainly keep us coming back and recommending to others.

R. L.Staying at the Distinction hotel was a pleasure - and had a lovely experience with all staff relating to the hotel itself. When booking I called to confirm I would get a room with a view and on arrival couldn’t have been happier. Checking in staff were very hospitable and the rooms superb. Sadly it’s restaurant has let it down. The staff was rude, and sloppy in their service. The food was ok but not great. For Breakfast I wandered down to the restaurant and looked over the menu- one of the wait staff said for me to “just wait” they came over and seated me, I ordered 2 eggs and gluten free toast- it’s literally how it came out - no butter, garnish - micro greens, nothing. It was sloped down in front of me. I ate and left- staff checking my bill was pleasant however.
I dined with my mother for dinner- service was terrible- we were told to wait a lot when trying to order or get a glass of wine. They got the order wrong but noticed it and fixed it straight away but loudly. My mothers steak was chewy, really chewy. I ordered the lamb shank which was lovely and paired nicely with the salsa verde, my potatoes were however dry, undercooked and tasteless. Desert was divine.
Based on our experience we decided to not have our final breakfast there but go somewhere else. In summary I would absolutely stay in the hotel again and recommend it highly. I wouldn’t look to dine in the restaurant again.

C. D.This is a good place to stay in Dunedin. Right in the city center, close to the area with many restaurants. Large parking lot opposite the hotel. The room is warm with automatic temperature adjustment, comfortable in winter, clean well 👍. The bathroom is spacious, two showers with convenient buttons, there are slippers to wear in the bathroom. I like this. The bedroom has a king size soft bed, with a television set to fit the eye's vision. Great!Apart from the washing machine they also have a dryer. I see many places that only have washing machines. The first time I see the hotel has a shoe shine set. Surprised!
K. M.If you want luxury this is the place to stay and the bed is so plush and comfortable, I had the best sleep. The shower was great and having a washer dryer was handy too. We had breakfast and dinner there which was also of a high standard.

Immaculate, spacious, with a massive bathroom. Very clean and lots of space and extras. Toaster kettle microwave washer and dryer. Huge bath, lovely huge shower with two shower options. The bed was so big and soft and comfy. Lovely bedding and pillow options. The air conditioning was great, could very quickly warm or cool the room.
Nice to have a couch area by the tv and a desk too. Very happy and would love to stay again.
A special mention to all the staff who were fully engaged, friendly, smiling, and helpful.
Breakfast was a very good selection with lots of extra special things like chia puddings, bagels for the toaster, lots of fresh fruit, salmon, pastries, and hot selection.
The poached eggs were perfect. The other hot food could have been a little hotter but was delicious.
The hot drinks selection was quality teas and filtered coffee, and even had marshmallows and chocolate fish.

Our room also had a washing machine and drier which is very handy with a baby! The staff were very friendly and helpful. The housekeepers did a great job each day. The whole hotel was very clean. We would definitely stay here again!

This is not a 3 star Hotel we would give it a 4 star. The bathrooms have a washing machine and dryer with a large shower. Great black out Curtians too! We would highly recommend this place.

The service and checkin staff were pleasant and polite though not so much on check-out, no chat, no cherrio.
The lobby reception area has little to offer, parcels restaurant seems disjointed from the hotel and there is no real hotel bar.
However the rooms are where it's at, they have everything down to a tee. Large spacious rooms with excellent views of the town. Comfy warm beds, had a great nights sleep. Room has everything you could need, tv, iron, the usual tea & coffee, but also dental kit, shaving kit, sewing kit, shower cap, vanity kit, sanitary kit. The room was topped off with a kitchenette microwave, fridge/freezer, sink, plates oh and the surprise in the bathroom washing machine and dryer.

The room was beautiful, it was lovely & clean and the complimentary toiletries etc were all a very nice surprise. The staff were super friendly & extremely helpful, including suggesting taking advantage of the valet parking as we had our dog with us. We were able to leave the sunroof open for him happy in the knowledge he was in a secure compound. Thank you so much Distinction Hotel you completely bowled over & exceeded my expectations!!

Kitchenette and washer and drying. Restaurant room service dinner was exquisite. Wished I had booked an extra night.

Y. V.Really good. All the little details you expect at a nice hotel. I'm only giving it 4 stars because valet parking should be included. We paid $20 per day, which is not a ton, but it could have been included in the hotel fee and the perceived value would have outweighed the cost. I liked the bath robes and slippers. The double shower was also a nice addition. A cool view of the city and a spacious room made for the perfect 2 night stay in the city. The location is hard to beat, close to multiple cafes and restaurants. I would stay here again if I came to Dunedin in the future.

Great service at arrival, spacious room with all bells and whistles including 50" TV, rain shower head, big bath tub and all the way up to sensor activated light in wardrobe closet. And there's a wine fridge too. And there's biscuits and chocolate to enjoy with your coffee or tea. Definitely a place I want to stay in when coming to Dunedin.

M. T.Staff up beat and friendly is the most noticeable asset. I don't think they will win any awards for views and daycore, rooms are large clean. Our 2 bedroom was anyway, seem to be fair value for money.
The house Restaurant was not a bad feed. Again not sure about the daycore . But after along day, it was nice to sit down in the large batwing chairs, relax and have or meals.

S. A.For a room with the large King size bed and a great bathroom, some places would be able to match it for the price, but not for quality. With my first stay here I was warned of the dust and that wasn't an issue for me. The work still continues and I'm sure it will be spectacular like the room I stayed in. The washing machine and dryer I love as this works well if you need to wash the shirt your wearing, because sometimes you forget things...

A. O.No doubt a hive of inactivity when it was the central post office, the transformation has been very successful. It’s a very good four star hotel with impeccably clean rooms, comfortable beds and a sensational shower! It also boasts an excellent gym.

However when I ordered room service, I was very disappointed with the caesar salad, to be quite honest it was not worth the cost & I did explain this to room service & the only response I got was to take it up with reception in the morning. Be careful with resturant over priced very average food, poor service . Ordered rib eye steak was given sirloin steak and charged the extra, ordered the pepper sauce but got mushroom sauce with no apology. The meal should have come with salad and this was a teaspoon of micro herbs on top of meal. Staff not interested in any customers at all had to wait and remind for dessert and drink service was next to none, got tired of waiting and went to bar for own drinks. Duty manager was micro managing with no interest. Would not stay again due to resturant .

The hotel is old aged, but renovated not long time ago. The kingsize beds are comfortable.
The breakfast is OK, but book it with your room, I think it's cheaper.
Parking is not the best, but they have some slots in a parking garage nearby for 15$.
Summary: good quality, good price.

C. O.The new hotel, which I assume was built as part of the renovation of a historic building, offers very nice, spacious rooms. TV, safe, air conditioning, everything is available.|Unfortunately, the safe was a bit small, so we couldn't fit some of our valuable photo equipment in it.|The air conditioning couldn't be set above the set 21.4 degrees, so the room remained quite cool (it's autumn at the moment).|We didn't try the restaurant, as Dunedin offers a wide variety of restaurants.|The breakfast buffet, however, fell short of expectations. The selection of dishes was very limited. So overall, it was only a "very good".

o.I stayed here on my honeymoon. It had a large, luxurious bed and a clean kitchen. || The interior of the room was perfect, but the stopper in the sink was always closed and I couldn't find a nearby stopper bar, so I gave it a minus 1.

T. M.The location is very good and it is very convenient to travel. The hotel is very new, the room is large, there are basic kitchen facilities, and there is a washing machine and dryer, which makes life convenient.

C.I stayed in this hotel, following a tour of the South Island of New Zealand, having booked the hotels in advance, all clean and decent, but this one struck me in particular, for the bathroom with a fabulous shower, equipped with a washing machine and dryer, and with a kitchenette for every need, even if not used.
