Very handy location, Mike and Julie are excellent hosts, super friendly and nothing was a problem. The room had everything we needed and the beds are super comfy. Highly recommend.

Hosts Julie and Mike and Otto (dog) are more than accommodating. Our stay over four nights was brilliant, super comfy firm beds, spacious unit, shower facilities brilliant good hot water .Great amount of space for our son to play with his toys. Close to all amenities a 10 minute walk to hospital, museum and retail stores. Everything you need for your stay we will definitely return if we need accommodation in the future. Thank you again

My tiny Chihuahua and I have always been welcomed there, from the day I chose her in Dunedin. A nice clean comfortable room, and an enjoyable breakfast.

Couldn't flaw this place. The staff are amazing, warm and welcoming! The beds are comfy, hot showers and accommodating to everything you could ask for. Even the small things count! Dark face washers for the girls to remove make up! Very clean place. Delicious breakfast, washer and dryer available if needed and great price. Family of 3 from Australia for 2 weeks and hands down favourite place to stay in NZ.

The interior of this guest house has been fully renovated in 2019 in a delightful way. Any previous reviews that mention it being outdated are now no longer relevant! Beautiful and clean with wonderful friendly hosts. Thoroughly recommend!

Very warm and welcoming place, comfortable modern rooms, and always spotlessly clean. Every single staff member I’ve ever come across has been fantastic and the location can’t be beaten!

Clean, quiet, and good value for the money. Great location near Dunedin city centre. Private single room was tidy and included little extras, like body soap, face and body towels, heater, lamp, and sink area. Caliber of a higher end hostel I would say. Reception was quick, organized, and attended to my needs. No complaints. I would recommend Sahara to any backpackers looking for a nicer hostel in town.

It was only after we arrived and were snug in bed, that we read some very comical reviews of this place... we were in tears with laughter as we could relate. We were in room 7 and our bed looked to be slanting down towards the head of the bed and it was a tad soft like flopping into a bean bag. However we both had a great sleep. We did check for bed bugs after one review mentioned this, but we had the all clear. The shower was old fashioned but perfect water pressure so that’s always a big plus for me. The heater on wall did very little, however the electric blanket covered that and it was November and not freezing cold anyways. I wouldn’t look under the bed or rugs but all in all it was better than some of the reviews we read.. lol. Staff are friendly, helpful and patient. It’s an old place so you can’t expect it to be fantastic, but it wasn’t totally awful either.

These are the kindest people in the world. Truly caring and friendly. The room was very clean and well appointed for the price. There are four separate buildings in the complex three newer nice buildings and an original ( older) guest house. The guest house does have a bit of... odor character? But the new buildings are very nice. The people who work here are straight up angels.

Stayed here because it's cheap, but the place sort of grew on me. It reminds me of my student days here: small, 90s-style, Uniflats accommodation flats, with basic kitchenwares and old kitchen appliances. Our host/owner was a friendly and helpful old man, he tended to our needs in a heartbeat. The only two things I disliked: the frozen food left in the fridge by previous customer and the wifi - disconnects almost all the time. Pro tip: 1. Laundry room is quite hidden, its at the end of the back building (to your right, below the stairs). It has a wash basin, top loader, dryer, and ironing facility. It's free to use, detergent provided as well. 2. The place might not be that comfortable for light sleepers, as you can hear people walking upstairs or sliding their toilet doors open at night.

Wow! This place is gentle and amazing. It was built by an exserviceman from the second world war. He has made a wonderful heritage looking family run motel and heritage rooms in the house. It really is a must stay at Dunedin. The owner and dog played happily with my dog... It's vibe was so gentle and lovely that my travel buddy and I put on a free breakfast for a beautiful young girl and her family who was attending hospital for a blood transfusion. The blessing was all ours as this little girl was welcomed and treasured by Barry and son Paul. You will not be disappointed here! 💓

I have visited the facility for over 50 years now. The rooms remain the same but the staff has changed. Un pretentious but clean and warm and so reasonably priced. Can't wait till I stay here again. Management or helpful without being overbearing.

Hubby & I stayed 1 night as I was having Surgery following morning. Owner was extremely friendly & made us feel welcome. Our room was lovely & spacious.

Its quaint and old fashioned and your have to share the upstairs toilet the floor boards creek and late at night you feel you could wake the entire house of guests if you need a late night bathroom call. I found the beds to be the most uncomfortable beds I have come across in a motel. But the owner and staff are friendly and try accommodate you as much as possible, they are situated quite central to most of the touristy attractions making it easy to walk around at take in the surrounding. If you are looking for something that is more affordable than this would be a good place to start

After a problem with the original hostel we were going to stay at we found this one and not only were they absolutely lovely but the service and rooms were great too!

Modern rooms, with a powerful and good shower, sky TV and kitchenette. Two beds, and nice balcony view in room 3. Friendly staff very helpful. Central to town and hospital. Good rates.

It's a nice wee motel but the rooms are kinda drafty and the curtains a bit tattered. Other than that, the location is great

Ok it was cheap $110 .staff were helpful and pleasant .It is close to town and there was no noise from above .but boy does it need an update.

We have stayed a few times at the Sahara guest house and I can't say enough for the warm and friendly welcome we always get how helpful and accommodating Brian has always been and we just love the meet and greet from Storm thank you Brian for always making us feel like a home away from home I highly recommend the Sahara

Was in Grunde nicht schlecht ist, nur schaltet sich diese dann auch ein, wenn man nur zum Waschbecken geht und sie bläst sehr kalt herunter. Es gibt auch einen Wärmestrahler, für die kalte Zeit. Nur der hängt an einer Zeitschaltuhr, und ist somit sinnlos, weil er sehr kurz geschalten ist. Wenn man duscht, hat man ständig diese kalte Lüftung und der wärmestrahler hat dann keine Wirkung, als in der kühlen Jahreszeit echt kalt im Bad. Leider konnten wir in unserem Zimmer, mit eigenem Bad, dass Fenster nicht öffnen. Es ging zwar auf, blieb aber nicht offen. Haben direkt im guesthouse gewohnt.
