This stay was good value for money. Cleanliness around the hotel was very good and they do have hand sanitiser widely available on each floor and at the reception desk. Use of face-masks was well monitored and clearly signaled. Parking configuration is a little strange, but it is really convenient that they offer it with a charge as street parking is not easy in downtown DUD.

The room was more than I expected. Everything I needed was available. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would have given 5 stars but for the fact that the restaurants in the hotel have a very limited menu. A recommendation, and not a criticism is that it would be great to be able to get Netflix or other streaming services on the TV. This will be my hotel of choice in Dunedin.

Friendly staff and excellent breakfast. Centrally located. The rooms are tiny, the windows single plane so it's pretty noisy. It gets very hot in there and there is no aircon or ventilation so you will have to open the windows onto a noisy street. Bathrooms are dated

Friendly front desk and restaurant staff. Comfortable bed, clean room and the breakfast was above the standard fare with lots of extras to choose from. Would definitely return again.

Fantastic freindly staff! Comfy beds. Heaps of pillows. Heaps of towels. Very Very clean, (the place sparkled).The room service meal was divine and came to us, toasty hot! Car park on location. Very easy check in! LOVE this place! We have been many many places all over the world and YOU Southern Cross would be one of the BEST...seriously!!! Many places lack the very things that travellers need or appreciate. More than one towel, more than one pillow etc. You guys are 10/10.

It's always great staying here. The staff are always friendly and helpful . If you need anything they are pretty prompt. The ladies' in the restaurant that do the breakfast downstairs are awesome, such good memories on what my daughter ordered the day before so the attention to customers is on point.

My only complaint would be the bathroom being tiny and for two mature ladies, not really good. Don't know if all rooms have such small bathrooms but hotel was not busy so should have ensured we were allocated a room with bathroom that was of reasonable size for 2 women staying 2 nights even though the tariff was a "special" - you could barely sit on the toilet (and we are both petite) as there was very little room due to the toilet roll holder and the sink being so close beside it.

Very helpful, pleasant, and understanding staff at reception. My meal was excellent and the service i received was great as well. I fully recommend this business to everyone.

We really enjoyed our stay. The complex overall had a really cool vibe. Loved that there is a restaurant and bar in the building. My husband loved the casino too. We stayed with a baby which was easy with the free use of a portacot and extra bedding supplied. The gym was excellent, staff lovely and location perfect. If I was to be nit-picky I would only say the room could do with a spring clean, but this didn't impact on our stay at all. If you are sensitive to noise be careful on a Saturday as it is in town and we heard some music late at night, but again, this wasn't bad enough to annoy us. Comfortable beds and a decent sized room.

The room was a good size, very spacious, great for a 4-person family. Loved that! However, there was no fan in the shower/toilet room and no hand towel holder in the common sink area. Also, with the increased use of devices these days, there weren’t many outlets for charging.

This is a great central location to explore Dunedin. The room was very clean with all the necessary items to make the stay enjoyable. All staff were friendly and meals were great. Good off street parking beside the hotel made life easier. A thoroughly enjoyable stay and we will return when travelling to Dunedin in the future.

Great experience overall. The Port O Call restaurant exceeded expectations and our breakfast the next morning at the attached cafe was generous and delicious. I don’t think you could ask for a better location really.

Stayed in the hotel for a weekend getaway, was very central and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Room was clean! All the attractions you want to visit will only be a walk away.

Comfortable stay! Very friendly staff. Very generous for the staff to drop the $19 car park fee as I turned up late due to unforeseen circumstances. Very central to shops and centre of town.

Nice friendly and helpful reception staff. This hotel has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Rooms are very, very spacious, warm, and include a bath which is extra special. There was extra bedding, pillows, and lovely soft and warm dressing gowns in the room. Big bed with comfortable bed linen. There was also a heater if needed. The room was attractively furnished, a little dated but absolutely fine. I think this added to the charm. Breakfast in the morning was great. Staff were friendly and helpful. The selection was ample, fruit, cereals, yoghurts. Hot and cold drinks, toast and the hot buffet which included two types of eggs, bacon, sausages, hash browns, pancakes etc. Plenty of condiments on the side. Newspaper available if needed and a lovely bonus was the generous kiwi made toiletries which even included a make up wipe, and a little carry bag to take them home in. The only down for me was the lighting in the room was quite dim. One bright light would have been helpful. Bathroom lighting was bright, this was just in the room. There were bed side lights but these were rather dim. Plenty of light during the day when the curtains were open. I would be happy to stay here again.

Mixed stay at the Hotel. Check in staff were very friendly and helpful. On entering our room we were faced with a bath towel hanging out of fridge onto the floor but this was sorted quick smart by check in staff. Unfortunately we paid for parking and on second night returned after 10.30 and parking for hotel guest was closed which we had not been told would happen. The night staff member was not so friendly but told us he could let us into casino car parking well i would of thought hotel guest were more import but i guess not. The room was clean, and made up beautiful every day but our stay was of mixed feelings.

Ok stay here at the Southern Cross Scenic Hotel. Check In was quick and efficient by a very pleasant staff member. Hotel is showing its age in many places, and could well do with a good spruce up. Room was quite small, with a very small bathroom. Toilet was rammed up against the wall. Good shower pressure. Bed was very comfortable, with good linen. Was very quiet, and I had a very good sleep. Good central location, only a short walk from the Octagon. Would stay again if the price was right

A great place if you're looking for good central location. The rooms were very clean, comfortable and spacious. Staff was very friendly every time we met them. Housekeeping team did a lovely job of doing our beds every day too. Everything we needed for a short weekend stay! We were out most of the time so the hotel was our perfect base to explore Dunedin. Lovely cafes, restaurants, museums, cinemas, farmers market, all within walking distance. Thank you!

Perfect location for walking to places of interest. Plenty of cafes and restaurants close by and the pubs and bars were just a few minutes walk away at the octagon. Only one thing which could be better and that was that there was no concierge on hand to help/advise us on a one day car hire. Otherwise our room was great, staff friendly and helpful apart from regarding the car hire.

Pros: Excellent and friendly customer service from room service to office staff. Good room space, bathroom is good. Large TV with access to HDMI for our laptop. Location is amazing, so close to the main shops! Everything within walking distance, Octagon 5 mins, Warehouse behind the hotel, Countdown 10 mins, 24/7 convenience store 3 min walk and the Casino in the same building. Loved how we can open windows. The beds are soo cumfy!! No problem with room service. Cons: Rooms are clean but dated, noise from cars with sports mufflers roaming the streets keeping us up one weekend night (2nd floor), it took us a while to figure out where the fridge switch was (minor issue). Giving Scenic Hotel 4 out of 5. Its an old hotel but the rooms are clean, the staff are very friendly and the location is perfect for those wanting to stay in town! Thank you Scenic Hotel!

We come here a lot for work and normally the service is good. However, I believe that this establishment may require a more diverse ethnic representation in order to meet the more emerging markets. I always find that diversity offers a more dynamic and robust customer service experience. Being challenged for "not paying" the bill and then presenting evidence that their accounts team has been paid 24-48 hours earlier is a terrible experience. Especially when you frequent the establishment and have a reputable history - manager leaves a welcome card and chocolates upon arrival in your room. The staff apologised for the inconvenience... But the bitter taste remains.

nice clean hotel room, comfy beds, the configuration was a bit unusually as you enter your room and in the hallway is your bathroom (just the sink part, the bath with the toilets are separated), then you have the room. There were no little cup/tray to put our soap once we start using it so had to leave the soap on the bathroom counter (the sink doesn't have any sides it's just a round bowl) so just maybe could be good to think of a little tray to place our soap once open.? Otherwise the staff was friendly and everything else was nice (did not try the food at the hotel).

This well-located hotel in the Exchange is about 5 minutes walk from the Octagon and close to the Warehouse Precinct. Staff are friendly and helpful in an unpretentious kiwi way. It has everything you need from a hotel minus the noise of air conditioning, whose absence I consider a plus. If it’s too cold, turn on the heater and if it’s too hot, there are windows that actually open. Definitely recommended.

Room was fine but the bathroom was filthy and needed a thorough clean with jif and shower cleaner! Was quite noisy with every car, bus and passerbys being heard even on the 6th floor. However the reception staff were really helpful and great to deal with but the casino staff need to stop looking at hotel guests like they are about to rob the place. Was really off putting as you had to pass them between reception and the lift to the hotel. Wish I could have given you 5 stars:(

Rooms are huge, kingsize bed which is so comfortable,lots of storage.Location is handy to everything. Housekeeping is superb.Negatives - though bathroom is huge, the sink is so tiny, your face wont fit.When we had brekkie in the resto & ordered coffee there was a lippy smudge on the coffee cup.They apologized & replaced it though

Have stayed before many times and the Scenic is a good stay. Only grizzel this time room lock was faulty and would take quite a few swipes to to get open, even getting new cards didn't help too much. Bit of a problem when you return a bit silly on the juice. Notified desk on departure. Bed was good and a selection of Pillows which is always bonus if you like a low pillow. fantastic linen and soft towels. Water pressure good however the shower over the bath set up has the silly glass door, they always leak water over the floor so need to have the towles on the floor and make sure your clothes are clear.

Great service, the food was not that good, but discounts were given in good faith. Highly recommended

I would have rated 5 stars due to excellent location, polite staff, cleanliness and comfortable room. However the room was so hot and humid that we barely slept. There was one small window we could open, and a fan (annoying noise to sleep with) and it was still so hot! Yes we did have one of the cheaper rooms, but regardless I think there should be some way to control temperature. We ended up cancelling plans as we were so tired and we were worried about the safety of driving home.

The room was very tidy and very spacious. Excellent supply of milk, coffee tea etc. Excellent staff who are very helpful and polite. Very nice buffet breakfast options for both hot or cold breakfast. Brilliant experience will definitely book here again when visiting Dunedin.

Another 5 star stay except the breakfast has gone from a 5 star rating to a 3 star due to no tomatoes nor mushrooms on the menu. Service and room still the best being attached to the casino.

We were staying because of having to be in Dunedin following surgery for followups. When the hotel knew we had someone bedridden we were given a premium room in a quiet area which had a comfortable bed and they supplied extra pillows as we needed a few. All staff were helpful and considerate and room service was happily given. The location is good and breakfasts were good. Car parking has a separate fee of $18/day and not included in room rate. Thanks for making a difficult time more bearable.

I always stay at Scenic Southern Cross when I’m in Dunedin, service is always brilliant, toons clean and have everything you need and great location. We get the interconnecting room so we can bring the kids and know we are close but have our own room too. Absolutely perfect every time

Felt quite historic. Evidently there is a new and an old part of the building. I stayed in the old. It had a modern bathroom but the shower over bath could be tricky for some. Comfortable and cozy and within walking distance of the city centre. A lovely little cheese platter appeared in my room which was a pleasant surprise. Nice in-house restaurants and car valet service. Would stay there again. Enjoy.

Great experience. My friend absolutely ruined one of their duvet covers! I let them know the next morning and there were no issues, just a little damage fee as expected. Getting lit at the scenic is highly recommended.

A fantastic hotel, great location.. had a tower room on 6th floor, which had an upstairs lounge and dining area seperate from the bed/sleeping area which was awesome as mates were staying at same hotel so they’d come up for coffee/drinks and meals

Nice rooms and friendly staff would have got a five but I could hear someone snoring and coughing through the wall also had trouble with the QR room service process but probably my lack of IT skill more than anything.

Your Staff were Outstanding with their level of Service they provided. Very Polite and well presented, I enjoyed dining at your facilities for my Breakfast and Dinner meal's, your waiter/waitress were very knowledgeable of the Menu and were willing to recommend side dishes to go with the food I was ordering. I was not disappointed with anything served. The Lady who run's the Breakfast Facility was Top Class indeed. Very Warm, Friendly and Inviting, just the thing you need, when you are far away from Home. OUTSTANDING.

its 4 1/2 stars for sure, super friendly staff, they showed us on a map of town the best places to visit, hotel is very handy to everything & within walking distance, really comfy bed & cleaned to a high standard, we loved staying here & would again when we go back to Dunedin, our trip was a mystery break, so happy that we got to visit Dunedin as we have not been there before

The price we got was surprisingly great for the season. The hotel for the most part is kept fairly clean. Our room was right near the lift. The pillows were sooo comfy. The room was relaxing. Very comfortable bed. The location of the hotel makes walking around the city very easy.

Great location and handy walking distance to many places. Well appointed rooms. Clean and tidy. The only thing disappointing was the tv reception (pixelating), but apart from that, the rest was excellent.

Would stay again without any hesitation. The attention to detail at the dinner buffet was impressive. Car park off road and safe and secure. High quality toiletries. We even ate there twice since it was absolutely delicious. The staff at this hotel could not have been more helpful and friendly.

The service was very good in deed, the room was very clean and tidy. The staff were very helpful and followed COVID 19 precautions and made sure the guests did the same. Signs were up indicating how to use lifts in groups.

Good location because it moves perfectly in the city. The room was clean. The Casino is right inside this beautiful old Hotel having a wonderful ceiling. A team of professional staff are ready to offer their expertise. The hotel offers excellent value for money. Atmosphere was wonderful all the way around.

Loved the location, breakfast and dinner at hotel were excellent....staff were very polite and helpful. Restraints in hotel were both well stocked and inviting. Excellent hotel... Close to main town and lots of options for entertainment and food etc etc... Casino upstairs gives even more options... Night life in the octagon up the road short walk is also well worth investigation..

We had a lovely experience staying at the Scenic Hotel Dunedin. The room was quiet and we slept well even though the room faced the main street. Good range of eating options and entertainment at the casino in the same building.

Decent hotel close to the epicentre of the CBD. We stayed in R279 which was facing the side road so much quieter than a room on the main street. Compared to similar hotels we found the parking to be excessively expensive and not always available and the range of TV channels very limited for 2020. Even here in invercargill many places provide free Netflix; not so the Scenic. Having said all that, it's all location, location, location so we'll be back!

Friendly staff and was upgraded to a slightly bigger room which was nice :) Breakfast was great, better than the other place I stayed on my trip. Only comment I would make is about not having aircon in the room, was very hot and had to keep bedroom window open but this let light in and woke me way too early!!

Stayed here for 2 days, breakfast was included. There is a cafe for walk ins. A casino at the rear of the foyer. Very user friendly and multiple uses.

Love staying here clean and tidy staff are really friendly and we always get the same room the only down fall is the bed was so uncomfortable just needs an up grade

Lovely stay. Friendly and helpful staff. I was travelling with my 6 month old daughter and was very impressed by the portacot supplied. There was even a Baby care package complete with baby shampoo, baby wash and moisturiser!

Friendly staff with wonderful service. The room is clean, tidy and comfortable. Well presented with modern fit out. Centrally located in Dunedin with Dunedin casino in the same building, it is easily the best accommodation in town. It is also close (walking distance) to The Octagon and other hospitality businesses. Would I go back? Definitely yes 😊

Fantastic place to stay, great service

Staff welcoming and accommodating, room small but clean, comfortable, warm and everything you need. Nice to have teapot and special little trap cups for the green/herbal teas plus the usual assortment. Robes nice too.

It's a hotel trying to be flash, reception team is very friendly. In house cafe great but service a little slow. The food is worth the wait...and you will be waiting....and waiting and waiting. Retrofitted with double glazing but then there's no ventilation except for a fan. No air-conditioning or ventilation... Bathroom tidy clean and. Good shower over bath. Mini bar is ok. But had silly little milk. For $219 alot over priced.

Have stayed at the SHSC on other occasions. On this visit we were passing through on a very busy Dunedin weekend and we very pleased to get the last room. The staff are always very friendly and the rooms well appointed and up to standard.

Problem with breakfast, as not enough staff to keep services efficient!

Cleanliness is very well maintained everywhere in the hotel. The location of the hotel is pretty good. I had a late snack and that was prompt and yummy. Staff is there to help you to enjoy as much as possible during your stay. We will keep this hotel in our good memories.

We stayed in the 2 bedroom suite, it was beautiful has everything you need and more! We would definitely stay again for a celebration. All the staff are friendly and helpful as well.

Quick and easy check-in & out process. No hassles. Great quality rooms and in a very convenient location in the CBD. I expect this to be our go-to location for business trips in Dunedin!

(We have stayed on many previous occasions at the Southern Cross). We arrived on Sunday the 1st March 2018, and went to our room. Once in the room we found the toilet did not flush (after being used by both of us) a little embarrassing to ask for it to be repaired, but we had too. The maintenance guy was lovely and sorted the problem very quickly. The toilet was so close to the wall, you had to sit on the seat, on an angle. The tile grout was very dirty and the rest of the bathroom was very dated (possibly overdue for a revamp). The room (272) was located right next door to the lift and we had very little sleep, as everybody coming in late, woke us up on several occasions, in fact, one group of people talked at the lift foyer for over an hour at about 2am... There was no point in going to reception to get relocated, as we were already told every single room was booked out, due to the ED Sheeran concert. The staff were very accommodating and relocated us to another room for the following night and provided us with free parking, which was much appreciated. Finally on the Monday night at about 12.30am we wanted to order room service for some hot food, however, from the several hot food options, none of them catered for my wife, who has Celiac disease, and is Gluten Free. I then decided not to order anything for myself, as I felt it to be unfair, if I ate in front of her.I do want to mention previous visits have been faultless and even GF hot food was provided by previous staff (toasted sandwiches). Thanks for another great stay at your Hotel which always lives up to expectations!. We highly recommend your hotel to all our friends. However, I would comment on the bathroom toiletries provided. While the quality of these is excellent I do believe the labelling and design leaves a little to be desired. ;In particular the Shampoo, Conditioner and Bath Gel are all in identical green logoed plastic tubes with only the name of the contents being different. This naming is not bold and when in a steamy shower, without one's glasses on, they are almost impossible to distinguish between. Bolder writing or different colours of tubes would be helpful. :-)

Having established that another hotel of choice in Dunedin could not accommodate my three night consecutive booking, I turned to Southern Cross who could offer the three night booking etc. And, as a Hilton Honors member for over 20-years my expectations are always very high. All expectations at Southern Cross were exceeded; staff always most helpful and friendly... Bonn serves the hottest breakfast in the land. Only this missing was a point scoring loyalty programme. I understand they will have one starting in January; hopefully my most enjoyable stay can be entered retrospectively ... To ensure and incentivize my return?

Comfortable stay with everything I needed for the night up on the fifth floor. Bathroom facilities were great. The room service was fast too and the food was decent.

I was at your hotel for two nights. I was placed in a room which was right next to the elevator and was extremely noisy. There is no carpeting in front of the elevators. Makes it noisy, specially since people gather round and have loud conversation waiting for the elevator. Not to mention the sound of footsteps. On the first night I asked for Tabasco with my dinner room service order. I didn't get it, asked the lady who brought it to my room to get some, she brought it, but after 20 minutes. Dinner was finished by then. On the second night I again asked for Tabasco with dinner, made a pointed comment about how it was forgotten the night before, and lo and behold, I didn't get it again! Again had to wait 10 minutes for it to turn up, this time I waited and ate cold steak. Good food ruined by bad service. Apart from that, the experience was okay. Fans in the room or some form of air conditioning or ventilation is required. The room was way too hot. The chair in my room had a bum leg and was rocking from side to side. The wardrobe door was sticking. Room smelt musty. While the Linens and bathroom were fresh, the rest of the room looks tired and run down. Overpriced and in need of a refit.

The food was very good and the wait staff for room service were always friendly.

Really enjoyed our now second stay with you. The only thing I would say against our room was noisy pipes (gurgling at times) but other than that great again !! Breakfast as usual - lovely. Staff amazing. Thanks again. Chris and Jim Bucknell

Excellent hotel with good location. I stayed for a week here with my office nearby. The staff was courteous. Food was nice and I had a pleasant stay here. Would recommend this hotel.

The hotel was fine - only compaint was the soundproofing between rooms wasn’t very good. We could hear the guy next door snoring all night.

I had to drive my husband from Oamaru A&E to Dunedin for surgery on his wrist after a nasty motorbike accident. We arrived at midnight and after all the initial preparations it became clear that surgery would take place the next day.That left me out on the street at 1 in the morning. my husband told me to go straight to Scenic as they would have 24 hour service at the desk.I was warmly greeted by a man that once lived in Oamaru so things were very cordial right from the get go. I asked for discount as that was what the brochure from the hospital suggested. I didn’t get a discount but I got an upgrade, a late check out and free parking. I was treated like the queen and I can tell you, after the day I had it was just the bees knees. Highly recommend.

Our first night was atrocious, but our second night was to the standard expected. Service was very good all round. We're a family of 2 adults, 2 young children. on our first night we were given a "Superior Twin" room on the North side of the building, Room 609. The lift to these rooms is shared with the casino. The room was too small, bathroom tiny and temperature irregular and hot despite heater being turned off. We opened the window, but the noise and light from the street poured in, including a crane at 3-5am!! The manager agreed to move us the next night, to the Southern side. Same room type, but the extra metre or so of room made all the difference, and the lifts are right at reception. We had no heating problem, and the window was double glazed, so was good and quiet. Room 675. Charging extra for Internet and car parking is always a turn off. $12 a day parking, $20 a day per device on Internet! Service personnel are excellent however. All up too costly for what you get, and you risk getting a shocka!

Starting from the booking of the hotel, Mr Peter Taylor was very helpful with the room rates and accomodating with our request of the room type. When arriving at the hotel, Peter was there to welcome us and everything was ready and the room was nice and warm. we were going to stay one more night and we were going to book 2 twin rooms and Peter arranged that for us, unfortunately we could't book the railway trip, we have to cancel the stay in Dunedin. Again Peter was very patience with us, He even suggested on our way back to Christchurch to stop at the Boulders and have nice lunch there at the Fleurs Restaurant. Mr Peter Taylor made us feel very welcome with his gentle character, he is your hotel superstar. We will definately revisit your hotel in the near future. Best Regards, Claudy and Peter

No air conditioning in the room we had and the sun was shining in all afternoon alone with very soft pillows but very comfortable bed , Very tasty food very clean and tidy hotel aircon would have got this hotel 5stars from me but room is very warm on this sunny day , would I stay here again yes I would .

I had to do some washing but you only had two washing machines and two dryers for a big hotel it is not enough.

It was fine, we were there for two nights. Experienced the casino, had a meal there, had breakfast the next day and an evening meal, no complaints.

We were really happy with our room overall.. But I feel that a few small ajustment can be made..:-) I find the that when I was takin a shower..I keep hurting myself on the pipeline in the shower bath..as I feel its a bit too close to the shower rose. Also above the Tea/coffee facility area ..could have been a wee light above ..so that folks can see the making of good cuppa :-)..But we had to turn on the lights in bathroom..or the main lights .. other then these minor things it was good! The room was comfortable, but the bathroom was a let down, badly redone and my husband couldn't stand up in the shower, the roof was only a couple of inches from the top of my head it was so short.

Room was alright but loud. Thermostat (???) made a loud sound every 10 minutes or so and found some rubbish in my room when I arrived.
