Nice folks here, considering this was the tail of New Years they seemed chipper and ready to go. Food was low tech lunch style. Muffins, toasted sandwich etc, nothing flashy or complex. A classic must visit high country hotel within a historic setting and township
L.
History great! Had a inside tour of some of Hotel! Had really hot Coffee and Orange Almond cake gf served with Lemon curd and whipped cream! Really yum! Very friendly staff!! Worth stopping!!
h.
Beer garden is lovely, beer & wine we're cold. Staff were lovely. Food was great, well worth a visit 👍
L.
Wonderful old hotel with great character. But don't just look. Good range of cold beer, great coffee and home cooking and really friendly service. They'll even bring your food across the road to the shady picnic tables. And watch for the ghost!

Off track 40 min drive from Clyde but well worth journey.Passing through small towns which run along Otago rail trail.
Built in 1882 it was a gold mining town and history tells there is a ghost that only appears to men.
It was a cold day on arrival and I was expecting hot soup or casserole but alas that was not to be.However we were greeted by a very hospitable host and she had freshly baked scones and a large carrot cake on offer.
The hotel is still in its original state and there is a pool table and photos adorn the walls of curling in the winter.
With a hot fire burning in the corner next to bar you could very easily make yourself at home.
Walk through the village with the original buildings and soak up the history.
As for the ghost she didn’t show herself to me/ but I am female.

My favourite pub in New Zealand . The location and atmosphere add to its attraction. So pleased to see it so busy today . The dining room was booked out by a farmers function .

Awesome area to visit, rich in scenery and history. Enjoyed a great coffee and the best ever caramel slice at the Vulcan. A warm welcome and a great chat.
S.
Very friendly hosts. First day open for a while, so they were just finding their feet again. It was really interesting and full of history, but I don't envy them all the work that will need to go into renovations
C.
Well kept, friendly and helpful staff, ate our lunch in the sunny beer-garden across the lane, after a wee walking tour around town with the excellent wee pamphlets at the bar. St Bathans is totally worth the visit!
m.
Exceptional service. Publican very chatty and friendly. Pies made locally and absolutely delicious. Great size serving of pie, mash and salad $15. Nice warm fire on a cold day. Thanks for having us!
m.

Nice place. Great food and good service.
L.
Beautiful area, however we stopped at the pub for some dinner and drinks, the older woman that served us was extremely rude , she was disinterested in what we wanted and we had to keep repeating ourselves to get our order she then informed us people had booked so they got priority so we would have a very long wait, which was fine , however she was really really rude , so we didn’t go back the next night instead travelling further away to get what we wanted , such a shame as the Vulcan hotel had been a family favourite with my family since my Aunty ran it decades ago
C.

C.

A great wee pub, has a dining area, a pool table, and some great artifacts for the mining era, the decor is really old and completed the feel of an old fashioned pub. There is a large area across the road to have a drink. The setting and the age of the area gives it a great place to have a pint. Accommodation is available there. A must stop pub.
S.

Adorable little pub in what is now a ghost town, overlooking an old gold mining pit.
Standard Otago beer options on tap, with Speights front and centre.
The jukebox was working with amazing sound and the pool table kept us occupied. We even discovered a board which went over top and turned it into tabletop curling. Fun few hours at the Vulcan Hotel.
