Good hotel, the swimming pool is great. However, it’s not a cheap hotel but the service unfortunately its not up to the price they charge. We didn’t feel too welcomed to it, maybe is the time. Quite pricey I’d say.

Okay for a 4 star hotel. They should have checked best before date of milk and condition of extracter fan.

Lovely welcome from reception, love the view from the room, the room was very clean and there was room to move, got a good kitchen with a dishwasher, it had everything you wanted. Come to gisborne and book into portside.

Lovely spot to stay overlooking the Gisborne Port and river. Excellent kitchen facilities, which is unusual for a hotel. Well located for some of Gisborne's best restaurants and Cafe's. A short walk to both town and the beach.

This place is great i give it 4 stars as there is always room for improvement, it has alot of potential and an amazing view both portside and mainland view. Portside is really close to town so you can easily walk, the rooms are comfotable and have many facilities in every one. There is a kitchen which is quite small (only room for one person to move around in), there is a washing and drying machine and also a shower/bathroom which is quite spacious and relaxing. The bedroom and dining room areas both have thier own heat pumps for a constant warm environment without having to wait for each room to warm up from just one heat pump. There is a no smoking rule inside but there are two small balconies connected to your room in which you are allowed to smoke on. In the building there is a cardio gym and a outdoor pool. The gym only contains 3 machines (treadmill, bicycle and elliptical) in a small room so not suitable for more than 3 people, which each machine is quite outdated. What could be better? There was a old stereo in the room that could be more modern as it does not have aux,usb, bluetooth but instead just had mp3 dvd, radio and cassette tapes. The tv was way to small and did not have any smart features as well as only reached a max volume of 40 which is still to low when you have clothes being washed or dried. The tv was small that i could use it as a monitor for my computer. There was not alot of channels just freeview channels and 3 sky channels that were just sport 1, sport 2 and sky news, It was also placed way to far away from the couch and made the wall space around it seem empty, it also meaned that the bedrooms bed faced just a wall that did not have a tv but one single painting that still made that wall empty as well. The toilet is a bit low and for tall males youd have to sit in order to not get ricocheting pee everywhere! apart from these areas portside was great and the best thing was the beautiful view and comforting feeling when entering your room as well as the closeness to town. I hope you like my review im always honest and try to help make this place better by providing changes that could help improve the accomidation i stay at 😊

Decided to overnight in Gisborne. Picked the Portside because of the close location. Very pleasant room, view of the Carpark initially, but the air conditioning packed a sad and I was moved to a room with a view of the river and pool. Comfy Bed, good sized telly and friendly service. Would definitely stay again. Probably more on the expensive side, but options are fairly limited in Gizzy for hotels.

Nice place to stay and good location close to most bars and restaurants. Rooms have everything you need for a stay. I think for the cost and being a heritage I would expect they might do some of the maintenance like checking shower doors so they open properly, touch up the paint where repairs have been done to a higher standard and sort the sky out on the TVs so they have better reception and more of the channels...its supposed to be 4 star!! Sort these small things out and I will change my rating. Service is good and very friendly and accommodating. Let's get it back to how it used to be when it first opened.

Great lil gem by the water and a treat to get away and head towards the coast. Friendly staff, spacious rooms, parking and a full kitchen will help if you want to huddle up inside. Worth the stay and will be the top choice in town.

For a heritage hotel it was just average, nothing exceptional. Note to company - try adding a coffee plunger and real coffee because the sachet stuff is nasty. Comfy bed but view of carpark not desirable. Good accommodation for overnight work trip however.

Room was nice and clean - well appointed. One day it was restocked but not serviced - not sure what that was about but we arrived back too late to get it done. Good location. Parking can run out if you aren't back early as it is limited but you can park out on the street. Have a nice pool but it doesn't seem to have any heating and even on a nice day it was freezing - shadowed in the afternoon so had to beach it instead - might look for another option next time round.

Great location, and great view considering the room I stayed in was on the ground floor. Spacious and clean. Would definitely recommend. The only downside for myself was the lack of gluten free options for continental breakfast - awesome cafe Flagship one minute down the road fixed that.

Big sized room with nice balcony to enjoy the sun and a cold drink. Big bath also available. Bed was comfy and well presented. Close to dining areas and bars. Pool available to swim in if required. Service was efficient and pleasant. Parking was free and available, free wifi also a plus.

Very good. Hygiene and room service quite impressive. Has smoke alarm and water sprinkler.

Nice rooms, but its the little things that make me happy i didnt pay full price for the room. It's not a view we have had before and while you could hear some of the machinery quietly at night it wasn't too invasive. Staff were so friendly and greeted us each and every time we left and came back into the hotel.

Lovely large room with full cooking facilities. View of the port was very interesting (a little noisy with the door open, but ok when shut). Great location to access the beach walkway and shops in town. Parking was abundant and convenient.

Loved my stay @ the Hotel.. greeted by the Onsite Manager who gracefully had my room available on my very early arrival @ 10am, Housekeeping were on point, but 1 of the receptionist needs an attitude adjustment, the no heated pool is fabulous on a hot day.. great location if you are on portside (my room), in the CBD, close to beach

Good facilities kept clean and tidy. Sounds from the passage travel into the rooms, a bit frustrating being woken by children running and playing in the passage. Plenty of charge back options for meals and great service at check in and check out time.

As always staff helpful and friendly. Staff were excellent. The fact that we are good customers doesn't seem to count as this time we were given an awful car park view room which totally changed our opinion of this hotel. Would highly recommend this motel to anyone looking for a relaxing night away.

The studio rooms seemed very small. There was a long crack at ceiling height ***** the length of the lounge room in. The Portside staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are surprisingly quiet as the hotel is across the water from a working port. Thanks for the superb stay we will defiantly come back.

Fantastic helpful staff and a great location near the beach and close to some great restaurants. We held a conference here for 18 people and the conference room was ideal with a kitchen and views of the harbour. Thanks again!

Very conveniently situated for exploring Gisborne. The rest of the hotel is beautifully decorated and means that you feel relaxed from the moment you walk in through the door. The break was a bit of a washout but we could not fault the cheery can-do attitude from the staff. Excellent value for money.

I stayed on a Sunday night, which meant a good price, but it's generally not expensive. The bedroom was very large with its own heat pump and had a view onto the harbour. We would not hesitate to stay here again and would highly recommend Portside Hotel to all.

The bed near the window with tv in a great position to watch it from bed. The 1m wide balconies off the lounge area and bedroom faced the port which got quite noisy early in the morning. The hotel is a little way out of town with a few bars and restaurants within walking distance.

Comfortable rooms. Nice and quiet. But bring your own food (there are cooking facilities) or eat out as nothing available on premises.

Convenient location the hotel is located within easy walking distance of the CBD and restaurants. The hotel staff did everything they could to help us out with the situation. The mix of slate floor in the kitchen area with carpet is a trap for stubbed toes at night when visiting the bathroom in the dark.

I took a group of friends to see the ships at our port. I couldn't find a park. Portside kindly allowed me to use their car park. My friends were not able to walk far Portside was the perfect place. Thank you Portside!!
