J.We had a lovely stay recently. Very calming over there, just switch off from the busy world - relax, watch the ocean, listen to the sound of waves and walk around Punakaiki. Alexander is a nice friendly host and the food in the restaurant was excellent. Highly recommended.
v.We had a really great stay, the staff were fabulous, the beds very comfortable and the evening and breakfast meals delicious, we will definitely be coming back, thank you x

S.We went to stay here with a group of 50 people. The accommodation is good but the food is not up to the high price you pay for it. Fish and chips for $35!!
We had a buffet dinner on the Saturday night. The soup was ok. The main meal vegetables were probably warmed up from frozen as the green beans were all soggy and it had baby carrots and peas mix. The potatoes were all symmetrical in size and shape, probably came out of a packet. The lamb, fish and chicken dishes were average and unlikely made from fresh ingredients.
Desert was tinned fruit, packet meringue, cream and slab chocolate cake cut up into small squares.
All of this came at the handsome price of $79 a head. Very disappointing for the money. I think quite a few of us had a shock at the price on checking out.

A.A must visit if you're travelling up or down the west coast. Punakaiki Resort is located right by the untamed west coast ocean. The roar of the ocean is a constant reminder of how beautiful this spot is.
Staff and facilities are good, the in house restaurant has a delicious range of options.
Walking distance to many attractions (Pancake rocks & River bush walks)
Definitely will be back on our next road trip these ways

D.Accommodation was sufficient and the balcony view looking out was magical. The restaurant was the let down, to which i walked out of due to the lack of options and the horrendously over priced menu. Perfect option for accommodation but head to the tavern for a feed.
S.Great location just by the beach and a short walk away from the pancake rocks. Friendly staff and the decent restaurant count as a plus. The rooms are spacious and with views of the sea. However, they are old/old fashioned, the balcony doors were a bit broken and as a result the room was very noisy. Moreover, there were many small windows in the room without proper blinds and as a result there were a lot of light in the room making sure we woke up way earlier than planned. Although nicely located, the value for money is bad and the rooms not at the expected level of quality for that price.
D.We showed up a little bit weary. It was horrible weather. But the staff made our stay really enjoyable. The room was large, comfortable and clean. The area was phenomenal. And, they are correct in that the pancake rocks area is best in stormy weather. Additionally, the food was wonderful with enough variation for our few days there.

P.Stunning hotel with a fantastic restaurant! Beautiful views from the beachfront rooms. What truly set this resort apart from others was the stunning service. Kudos! Highly recommended.
P.A nice property with bar and resturant and nicely planned rooms facing the sea . It has great views of the sea. In fact that is about ALL it has. It is quite remote with hardly any other things to do. Good for older folk. I wouldnt stay again

T.Outstanding location. We had booked the units on the hill, but they were being upgraded to new carpets which smelled strong. So they moved us to the beach side units which we preferred anyway. Short walk to the beach. Make sure to visit the "pancakes" park just down the road. Outstanding rock formations.

S.Stayed here on a leg of our honeymoon, and they went out of their way to make us feel very welcome. The room was nice and clean and had a stunning view. The place is a short walk from the pancake rocks/ blowholes (a must see), and is right on one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen. Watching the sunset from the room was a very special moment that won't soon be forgotten. Just make sure to keep the screens tight on the windows, there are some sand flies.

M.Great location for certain. Service was spotty and we were given the keys to a room where a guest was already in the room. An honest mistake. Rooms are basic, no frills. Our queen mattresses were a well used and spongy and the pillows were not good. The room is very loud and the shower is through a thin wall so another person can't sleep if someone is showering. Parking is haphazard and the 200 level rooms have limited parking by the room. This is the only hotel in the area so they can charge more. Internet is spotty and there are only 4 channels on the TV - although we're not here to watch it. We're here for one night so it's back to AirBNB after this.
S.Had a lovely stay here on vacation with our tour group. This place has an amazing beach right out front with no flies, and the bar / restaurant had amazing food! Would stay here again and recommend it to friends/family.
L.The prestine location is displayed well from the restaurant, bar and study. The rooms have a good view of the ocean. The Pancake rocks are only a couple of minutes drive up the road. We felt our room was exceptionally basic, there is room to improve with the amenities provided in the rooms.
S.Lulled to sleep by the sound of waves. It just doesn't get any better! Lovely property, comfortable beds and super helpful staff. My only complaint is the eggs on the breakfast buffett were ice cold.
T.Reception was efficient but we had warmer welcomes on our trip. Room was large and quiet. It is not possible to swim due to streams and there were sandflies all over the place. Low quality wifi.
J.As the food options are limited I wish they had told us that there was a microwave oven and sink! The quote we had for a basic buffet Xmas dinner was ridiculous. Lovely sea view.swimming in the sea not possible. Lots to do. Wish we could have stayed longer.
P.Easily one of the best in the country for the travellers a night a weekend if the weathers right that's a sure plus.

R.Location, location, location. The hotel itself is clean, spacious and comfortable. The restaurant offered good quality food at an acceptable price for the area. The front desk help was courteous and patient with all the guests we witnessed while at the resort.

M.Dinner service for our REI group (16) was a bit slow, and we had to keep asking them to refill our waters, but the food was pretty good and the accommodations were clean and comfortable. The ocean views are absolutely stunning from the rooms with balconies and the dining and bar areas, which makes up for the slowness of our food service. To he fair, I think the kitchen was a bit slammed with a few groups. I'd come back just for the beach and ocean views!

The only "bad" thing I can say about this is having to cross the highway to get from reception & the restaurant to your cabin.
It's easy enough to drive back & forth if need be.
Last time we were here was in 2012. Hopefully be back soon!

P.Pleasantly surprised by this simple but amazing resort. Great location close to the Pancake Rocks etc. Be aware though that some of the rooms, while ocean facing are on the road opposite the main resort.
A.Nice place in a locale that is somewhat remote. Our rooms were across highway from reception, restaurant and bar, so used culvert tunnel under highway to get back and forth. Unusual, yet fun.

D.Not up to standard, getting very tired. Two weeks traveling around NZ. I would rate it the worst value for money place we have started unless you want to stay on the beach and are willing to pay for the privilege.
E.Our stay was done. It could have been better. The 1st room they set us up in was extremely warm with no good way to cool it off (2 windows opened 4" or so at max and the provided plug in fab vibrated like crazy.) Reception told us a couple times to just turn off or turn down the heat that was never turned on in the first place.
After contacting reception again to ask for another fan (they didnt have extras) they eventually set us up in a room across the road that was nice. It had a patio door that we could open to get good air flow. The room was nice although it was directly overlooking the highway. Not a big deal at night, but the semis started rolling past around 5 am and I had to shut the doors and windows. The bigger issue we had was the fire alarm went off around 130 am for our room as well as at least 4 or 5 around it. They got it shut off after 10-15 minutes and we went back to bed. It then proceeded to start to alarm two more times for less than ten seconds but about 5-10 min apart which was tough at now around 2am.
The next morning at check out I asked of they figured out the alarm issue and all the receptionist stated was that one of the rooms got too hot and triggered the alarm. No apology given. It made for a tiring next day and 3 hour drive to next destination.
Pretty location the pancake rocks are extremely close and worth seeing, but execution in the hotel and restaurant were lacking.
