J.Nice place in the middle of town overlooking the clock tower. Manager is friendly when you walk in. Manager could do more to make one feel welcome, like show us where the tea and milk are and invite to watch tv with. Host could offer hot scones or cake. Spring in door by kitchen and toilet needs adjusting as it closes noisily. I wondered what that banging was. Good that host is friendly at arrival, but needs to show a little more thoughtfulness. Pretty good for the price though.
H.Room #3. **Not disabled-friendly (must be capable of going up and down stairs)** Super friendly and personable staff, kitty home, comfortable lounge area, clean bathrooms though only two stalls, 4-5 showers, pay $2ea for washing & drying, one bath towel provided per person, fantastic location, one of the most comfortable beds I've slept in in a hostel (2x pillows ea). Breakfast included cereals, toast, several different spreads, coffee, tea. Would highly recommend and would definitely stay again.

It's very comfy, clean and family-like. I had room number 3 for myself. I could see the Beach and the sun was shining through the 3 big windows.

J.2 days after moving to Covid-19 level 2, first day back open and the place was spotless! Coffee, breakfast, bedding provided was all awesome, but the highlight would be our lovely hosts (including the cat!). Thanks for all your tips, we had a great beach hunt. We will definitely be back to stay with you guys!
G.This is a great hostel to stay at! It's very clean, it has a really cool layout, it has everything you would ever need and John and Triona (the owners) are super friendly and make you feel like you are at home. I would definitely stay here again :)

g.This place is very peaceful and relaxed, close to the beach, cozy and pretty cheap. You have big dorms and amazing owner, the kitchen is pretty medium but is more than enough. The toilets are nice and everything in the hostel is clean. You have pretty decent hostel wifi and spark wifi inside the hostel. Absolutely recommended for people who just want some time to relax.
J.This should have been a 6-star review, what was this an amazing place!! The owner is so friendly, she'll help with everything. She is always busy to keep the place clean and well-looking. You can hire really cheap mountainbikes and there is a wall full of activitiesff that you can do. Also, ther bedrooms are big and there is even free, all you can eat, breakfast. Absolutely awesome, this place!!!
J.I slept one night in this hostel. It was low season, so no many people in the hostel. The manager make it so easy to get in there afterhours. Unlimited wifi (and so fast!!) and clean bathrooms. I would totally sleep there again.
B.By far one of the best hostels I've ever stayed in. Friendly owners, clean facilities, and compfy beds. Very chill place that was in the town center. Everything was a a minute or two walk away. Very cool too that the hostel overlooks the jade shop. Highly reccommended.

G.Good location, on main street in Hokitika. Nice communal lounge with couches, tables and good free Wi-Fi. Well-stocked kitchen, shared showerroom and separate men's+women's bathrooms. Beds are comfortable enough, but although guests are informed that 10pm is quiet time in the dorms, on the night we stayed there the conversation and laughter from the lounge carried on much later and would have made it diffiult to sleep if we hadn't been so exhausted.
Z.The host was awesome, very personable and the facilities were great. HOWEVER, I stayed in a dorm room and I was bitten by bed bugs. Without a doubt folks, there are bed bugs in this hostel. BE CAREFUL!
C.New owners are very sweet and doing wonderful renovations. Great location above jade shops and restaurant. In the center of town with a unique view of the clock tower from the outside balcony.

T.Alright hostel. Clean facilities but the kitchen was a bit dirty but no worries. The beds are alright but quite loud. Price and location are good.

J.If you're looking for accommodations in Hokitika Stay at Mountain Jade Backpackers! A really nice hostel with amazing owners. Their rooms are cheap and you can rent bikes for almost free!
M.The kitchen can be a bit too small on peak times. The rooms are big, but don't offer good electricity conection for the upper bunk beds.
