Was sad to leave this beautiful place! The owners are lovely people that always look out for the guests staying here. First day we arrived, Dave got us a good job that we ended up staying with for five months. The hostel is cleaned every day, our room got cleaned once a week for us and we always had our designated parking spot available.
New World and the town center are just a short walk away, there is a TV room that‘s great to lounge in and we regularly did hostel dinner nights where everybody got together and had a great time.
I loved my stay at Hone Heke, I have met some wonderful people here and will miss the hostel dearly. I would recommend it to anyone that wants to come up North for travel and work.

Excellent hostel with awesome owners. From the tidiness to the rooms, the parking space to the common areas everything is well maintained. Lots of jobs and walks / beaches in the area too, a must go in Northland!
R.
Comfortable and well equiped rooms at very reasonable prices. Just perfect after a hard day on the TA trail. Friendly and helpful hosts too!

What a beautiful place to send time!! Waking up to the sound of birds singing and located within walking distance of stunning nature walks and numerous waterfalls! Incredibly kind lodge managers and awesome people! Kept super tidy, with a yummy indoor outdoor feel 💚💚💚 la loved my time spent here! Thank you!

Perfect hostel to either settle down while working or just passing through while travelling in a spacious room or in your car in the big carpark. Clean, well maintened and welcoming, Victoria and David are lovely and make you feel home. I spent more than 3 months there when working and enjoying the beautiful area during my days off.

When I came to the Kerikeri I knew from other travellers that Hone Heke is something special, and guess what, it is! I travelled all around New Zealand and this was the place where I met friends for life. The atmosphere, people, clean place (all the time!), music, laughing, beautiful town with so many secret waterfalls ... Just amazing. Victoria and David, all the cats (new member Rocky!), kids ... they are all so kind and always helping out (jobs, travel tips, local places ...). This place really has a big place in my heart. Thank you and I cant wait to be back!

Love this place! Spent 1 week here and wish it could’ve been longer. Such a great vibe about this hostel. Dave & Victoria are super nice and really invest themselves in looking after their guests. Comfortable beds, strong showers, and fantastic facilities and grounds. Convenient location just a short walk from the center of town. There are even 2 cute kitties on site! I would definitely return.

My partner and I stayed in Hone Heke lodge from mid December to the end of March, so around 3-4 months. We were welcomed by the lovely Daniel and Clare when we first arrived, they were looking after the Hostel while the owners were away on holiday. They showed us around and made us feel very very welcome. They helped us find jobs in hospitality - which we weren't expecting at all, but I think we just arrived at exactly the right time! They should definitely run a Hostel of there own at some point!
When the owners David and Vicki came back, they were exceptionally welcoming and lovely too. They really made us feel as though their home was ours too! There is not much more to say about them apart from the fact they're hospitality is outstanding and we would definitely return if we ever find ourselves up in Northland again.
We stayed in a double room with an en suite bathroom which was perfect for the two of us. Our room was cleaned/sheets changed once a week which was totally unexpected but was greatly appreciated.
The other hostel workers do a fabulous job of cleaning the common rooms and are always cheery while working! We picked up a few odd shifts in the hostel every now and again which was great for experience and we also enjoyed doing it.
The atmosphere around the place is perfect and everyone that came and went were pleasant and kind.
We would highly recommend Hone Heke to any other backpacker we crossed on our paths.
Kerikeri is also a wonderful place to explore. You have many walks/waterfalls around the area and there are many wonderful cafes to enjoy.

Great hostel, it made leaving New Zealand very hard. Ample spaces to relax and do your own thing, along with a great group of travelers. The owners really care about the wellbeing of their guests and go out of their way to help. I moved from Keri Central and was a little concerned about the longer walk to the town center, but actually there's a cut through (not shown on Google Maps) which means it's only an extra five minute walk to town from Hone Heke. Highly recommended.

We just left Hone Heke after almoat four months! Truly sad to leave such an awesome place where we met amazing people like Vicky and Dave, hands down to the best hostel owners we’ve met !! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ common areas and surroundings! Highly recommend it to stay long term, you’ll be helped with work and smiles!
L.
We stayed here while working in Kerikeri for over 3 months, definitely the best working hostel in New Zealand! Dave and Victoria are absolutely lovely and put so much work into keeping the hostel clean and homey. Thank you guys for everything!:)
め.
I never leave comment on google reviews but one thing I couldn’t understand.
To be honest I really high recommend this hostel super clean but don’t forget If you leave this hostel before next rent day ,they not pay you back! You should leave 1day before your rent day! (After I paid my rent I stayed 3days ,I know it different price If you stay a week or shorter but I still I can get my money back)
S.
Awesome set up. Everything you need, comfy bed and room. Superb hospitality and friendly hosts.

This is the best hostel I've ever been to. If you've traveled all the way to New Zealand and won't stay at Hone Heke it's a big mistake. The owners Dave and Victoria are really lovely and helpful. Also the community at Hone Heke is great as well as the possibility to get a job as a backpacker. This was definitely a place i called home during my stay. I really recommend this place
F.
Very kind hosts! Clean hostel and nice vibes in general. If you are looking for a job you don't need to wait long for a first trial day because Dave is doing his best to find a job for you ASAP. I spend there 3 months and loved it. Just a bit cold in Winter because the kitchen is half outside.
L.
This hostel is just the best! Dave and Victoria are great people, very glad I met them. If you're looking for a place to work and stay in New Zealand this is it!!
S.
Prepare yourself to pay 125$ to park a van, prepare to don't have a discount if you have cold shower for more than 2 weeks. Business is more important than human for them. You can find something less expensive if you try.
Hopefully good people live in this place.
G.
Victoria & Dave were super friendly hosts who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome on our Te Araroa journey. Comfortable facilities and a great indoor/outdoor area. Thanks heaps!
C.
I can definitely recommend to stay here. The owners are well organized and will find you a job. Staff cleans the hostel twice a day and you won't have a problem with the loudness, because they stop parties outside at 10:30 even on the weekend. The biggest minus is the WiFi, which is not really working. Also I didn't like, that half of the stoves in the kitchen, witch is to small for that hostel, are broken.
F.
We had an awesome time in this Lodge! Everyone is friendly and helpful. We felt welcome the moment we arrived. If you're looking for jobs, they'll help you find one, you get free WiFi and a nice chillout area. It's a really good working hostel! We'd definitely come back again!
S.
David & Victoria and their team provide a home away from home. The love and support that goes into making this hostel a happy safe haven is impressive and out of the hundreds of hostels I've stayed in this one warrants the recognition. I didn't want to leave! David & Victoria understand travel, they have thought of everything -- they just get it right, spot on!

This hostel is an example for how a working hostel in nz should be. The facilities are nice and clean and the rooms are pretty big and have shelves for your stuff if you're staying long term. Additionally, the hostel has a decent free wi-fi.
The owners are really keeping up a familiar atmosphere in this hostel and even sometimes organize activities like going to a bar with everyone.
If you are looking for work for backpackers, this hostel is definitely a good place to go to.
On my first day there, David found me a short-term job for the first two days and even gave me a free lift for that.
After one week, they found me a job in another town (which means I had to leave the hostel). I think that shows that they are really trying to help you and not just want to earn money.
S.
Good accom and services. Comfortable. Friendly safe place to stay.
L.
A fantastic hostel in New Zealand, where you have to go if you go north!
The owners, Dave and Victoria are very friendly and made this hostel a warm welcome for all the guests.
Backpackers, business people, big groups and people from all over the world.
There is free unlimited wifi, a pingpongtable, pooltable and a lovely common area to meet others (with a fireplace during winter)
The dorms are big and the doubles very cosy.
Highly recommended!

It’s a really nice place to stay. Nice People from all around the world, the most people come from Germany. Vicky and Dave (the owners) are very friendly and well organised in finding jobs.
They have a laundry, a kitchen with everything you need and really nice rooms including a ping-pong-table and lot of places where you can load your technical equipment. Kerikeri is a lovely little town.
The things which are not so good is the Wifi, but that problem is already known and some of the cooking places don´t work.
There was one thing we didn´t understand… When we met them the first time we said, that we want a save working place like a full-time-job, in case of that, we would stay up to 3 months.
They answerd that this would be no problem at all.
After one week of staying there, we realized that we won´t get a job like that, because we asked every motel, and almost every shop in town and around.
Now comes the thing which confused us. They told us that they rang the motels and they are looking for cleaners, but every motel we visited to gave them our CV´s said that they only hire people in the tourism-season which starts mid-November.
When we talked to Vicky and Dave they said that the Saison starts earlier in Kerikeri … but that was in about mid-September…. So we didn´t understand what they meant, because the whole town said mid-November.
But we stayed one week and it was really nice, also we had some day-jobs and earn good money in that week. After that we leave, because we want to find work in the south in the tourism-season.
Thank you a lot and continue helping Backpackers
Kind regarts S. and A.

The Hone Heke Lodge was reopened this year in february. We stayed there for one night and would recommend this hostel for everybody. Vikoria and David were so friendly and warm from the first contact. They're both so sympathic and because of that we felt comfortable directly after arriving. We slept in a new seven bed dorm alone and had everything you need in a dorm. Small lights for some beds, different small and big shelfs and a dining table for eating inside, lovely decorated. Toilet, bathroom and kitchen was clean and you have a big outside cooking and dining area with an oven. In the whole area you have a huge car park, a garden to relax, a grill, a trampolin, a pool table and a table tennis table and cool, free wifi. For Work and Travellers the family helps to find a job because they work together with farms. Thanks for this wonderful time in Kerikeri. Viki and Anne

One of the best hostels I stayed in. The common areas are really open and beautiful and half outside half inside. I absolutely love the community that is formed through that

(Translated) It was a very beautiful hostel. The owner is insanely friendly and will replace the bath mats and cutlery with towels and diligently. It was a good experience for me to introduce various jobs.

(Translated) We can not say enough about how beautiful our time was at Hone Heke Lodge! By far the best hostel in New Zealand and if you are looking for work, the perfect place to stay. Vicky and Dave find jobs within one day and also offer DailyJobs every day. Due to the manageable size of the lodge, everyone knew each other after a few days and by sitting together in the dining area in the evening, which was always supported by good mood, mood and music, the feeling of a big family grew over time. Vicky and Dave are always trying their best to make your stay as enjoyable as possible, and you can always come to them with worries and questions. The prices are for the clean kitchen, bathroom and room also in a very good value for money. No other WorkingHostel will ever be able to top this. Pity that there is not a second Hone Heke Lodge on the South Island .. We had the best time with you, THANK YOU!

(Translated) It was a friendly and helpful owner. He was looking for a job, was taking care of me, and was an owner beyond imagination. I think there is no such place. Dining is facing outside, unique atmosphere. I love where I can feel nature.

フレンドリーで親切なオーナーでした。仕事を探してくれてり、送迎してくれたり、想像以上のオーナーでした。こんなところ無いと思います。ダイニングが外に面していて、独特の雰囲気。自然を感じられる場所で私は大好きです。
