Wow a hidden treasure!!! By chance as we were travelling around looking for a place to have a very late lunch. We got into the restaurant half an hour before closing time. That's all we needed... The service was quick and efficient, the remaining Yum Cha plates were still nice and hot, and delicious. My favourites were the Beef Tendons, Steamed Rice Rolls, and the Turnip Cake...oh and the Rice/meat wrapped in a leaf. Very happy with the reasonable prices too, will definitely come back with the family. This experience took me back to having Yum Cha in Hong Kong, and in China. The hustle, and flow, the smells, the people, the food, the chatter, and atmosphere...an awesome experience, Thank you 🙃

Having read a few poor yum char reviews, we still went to eat at the12pm yum char sitting for four adults on ANZAC day. The service is abrupt at reception and little better once seated and told you have one hour to consume your yum char meal. Sadly the meal deliveries are haphazard in that one hour time frame, with a 20 minute gap for our table with no food options. The poor restaurant management is sad as the food is good when delivered to your table. Eating here is a bit like staying at Faulty Towers after one hour you are asked to exit and pay. The business model here is flawed as the more meals delivered means the owners make more money. Since we had limited food provided our total invoice was great value and fairly cheap hence the three stars and not two stars.

Took my family for Yum Char here and the food was really good for Wellington standards. Their Tsui Mai (steamed pork dumplings) are really good. They came out steaming hot which is the best way to eat them. A lot of restaurants don't steam theirs hot enough. Their Spring Rolls, deep fried squid, beef tendons, tripe and chicken feet were all really good too.

Delicious Yum Cha, not a huge menu but more than enough to satisfy a lunchtime appetite, one highly recommended dish is the Ginger Cake, sweet, soft, gooey, deliciously Gingery and couldn't get my fill of it, another big plus was the Sticky Rice, was to die for.
You want a tasty lunch then the Ridiford Hotel and Restaurant Yum Cha is the place for you. $$

Great place for Yum Char ( dim sim)
Very authentic

This is my local Yum Cha restaurant. The food here is delicious and prepared perfectly. Tea is served hot and topped up often.
It can be quite busy on weekends, so booking ahead is recommended. During the week, it's a little quieter and you can order all of your favourite dishes directly from the menu.
The staff are friendly and, at times - hilarious. During one visit I was gently scolded by a waitress who thought I'd ordered too much food, and that I wouldn't eat it all. Lol! Challenge accepted! :-D
The decor and sometimes quirky service aren't to everyone's liking - but I love this place, and often recommend it to friends and family who enjoy Yum Cha.

The best yum cha in Lower Hutt, reasonably priced too.

Recently stayed here for work, for the price it's actually really good.
Tv , comfy bed , good sized rooms with view. Shower was hard not to flood the floor but there is a floor drain so that was good.
The hospitality was incredible. Such happy fun people. Easy to ask what ever is need and easy going.
Really enjoyed the stay 🙂

Awesome owner. I had booked for the wrong month & she was super helpful & understanding & gave us a room anyway & would check in with me to see how my niece was in hospital. Can't thank them enough.

Felt very safe and place seemed pretty clean. It is not exactly what I have usually experienced in a hotel before. The restaurant in the hotel had an Asian theme and was not mentioned by the hosts on checking in. We expected to be able to have a simple breakfast there but no information in our room about any of the hotel services or in fact no information at all on the area we were visiting. For the price I was a little disappointed. It would not take too much effort for the hosts to offer European style breakfast menu.

Gotta admit their Yumcha is amazing the only reason it isn’t a 5 star is because time limit and service..
M.
The pork belly we were served were evidently old, because it was cold and solid. The squid wasn't that crunchy... and staff were quite pushy for you to finish your food.
M.
We have been to this Restaurant a few times and have enjoyed going there for Yum Cha for lunch if you haven't been before you should try it
A.
Was fairly average. The staff randomly stopped serving us during yum cha even through we were far from done. Everytime we managed to convince a staff member to bring more food they left and never came back, was pretty rude.

The mattress was of very good quality. We slept very well. There were extra duvets and pillows available. It is location is ideal as it was just around the corner of Lower Hutt's major shopping mall. We just walked when we wanted to eat or shop. The owners were obliging and attentive. We booked two rooms. The reason why it gets three stars is the lingering smell of cooking oil in the foyer all the way up to the first floor where our rooms were. The ground floor is a Yum Char restaurant which goes straight into the foyer. There is no door to stop the smell from going into the accommodations. This hotel needs serious TLC.

Wow wow best yum cha
J.
Great price for the great tasting meal. The price hasn't changed in ten years! Child friendly as it is a family style restaurant. Yum cha at lunchtime is also great with reasonable price. Easy to park as it has it's own carpark.
G.
Yum cha food here is amazing. Seems to be the chef from Andrews restaurant. But the service is pretty much always average to very poor. The managers as others have said seem to have an attitude problem.
B.
5 star rating for their yum cha. My parent’s favourite yum cha place in Wellington (which says a lot)
S.
Good milk shake in the sun.
Went for the banana and asked to have a bit of chocolate in it too.
Perky nana shake, you're welcome.
F.
Reasonable food quality. But service is very average or sometimes even under average. All because of short of staff. We booked a table for lunch last Saturday, but had to wait for 20 mins for our table to be ready. Will consider to go back not so often.

I come here for yumcha in lower hutt, well priced and good food, service and ambience are as expected for yumcha.
Coconut buns are among the best I've had, super fluffy bread and delicious coconut inside.
Good variety in yum-cha for its location.
G.
Can't speak for the hotel as I have never stayed there, but the Yum Cha is the best in Wellington!
S.
The Yum Cha here is excellent. Stayed one night. Room was clean and tidy. Relatively cheap. Minute's walk to Queensgate mall where bus stop to Wellington CBD is. Good experience overall.
D.
Service is not as good as it used to be. Basic dishes like spring rolls are things you have to order. They are no longer part of their normsl offering for a Yum Cha
M.
Food incredible. Very popular place. Staff very experienced. Will be going back.
A.
Good Chinese restaurant run by hotel,or the other way round. 3 star global for friendly staff and smiling faces, 4 star in NZ.

Great YumCha

(Translated) I have never seen such a bad service. I often have to drive people away. It is simply unreasonable. The Cantonese tea-drinking culture is to enjoy food slowly. If you want fast food, it is better to take away.

我從未見過那麽差的服務,常常要趕人走,簡直係不可理喻,粤式飲茶文化就是要慢享受食物,若要速食,不如去takeaway.
