Amazing place to relax - everything is put together with such care and thought.
The breakfast box is very generous with fresh baked sourdough and spectacular greengage plum jam!
Also the cutest egg cups I’ve ever seen!!
Close to Mapua for great restaurants and bars.
And would throughly recommend a massage by Jo.
Most relaxing weekend and so inspiring to see all the planting and work done to restore the estuary and take care of the birds.
Loved it - we’ll be back.

The Apple Pickers Cottage are a v special and unique part of New Zealand’s history. We absolutely loved our stay. The cottage are perfectly designed and very comfortable - warm and cosy with peaceful nights. We stayed in April and had beautiful weather. Miro Cottage felt very private with a beautiful aspect across the estuary - changes view throughout the day depending on the tide. Our favorite time was breakfast soaking up the morning sunshine - we recommend ordering the breakfast box. Excellent home made jams and honey from the land. Thank you Elspeth for being a wonderful host!

We hired out all three of the cottages for 3 nights for a very special family get together. It was such a beautiful setting and everyone loved their individual cottages.
The location is very peaceful and on the water with a stunning view of the mountains looking over towards Nelson city. When the tide is in, the view is filled with serene blue hues and when it is out you can listen to the sounds and observe the flourishing bird life that live on the mudflats. (Viewing especially good over a coffee, at sunrise.)
Each cottage has it's own unique charm and they can be equally private and open depending on if you plan to hang out all together or not. The kids in our family had plenty of space to run around in and kept themselves busy playing on the giant Eucalyptus tree and in the hammock in front of Karaka cottage. The Kayaks were an added bonus and the cottages had everything you need including comfortable beds with bedding, towels, coffee plungers, salad bowls etc. There is good space for parking and we would highly recommend this gem of a find for anyone looking for a peaceful retreat and re-connection with nature. We cannot thank Elspeth enough for contributing to the memories made here, with her fine attention to detail and welcoming approach. Highly Recommend!

We stayed at the Rata Cottage over Easter weekend. The cottage had lovely views of the vineyard and mountains (but not over the estuary - note the other cottages did). We loved having access to the kayaks and paddle boards (the estuary is beautiful to explore and safe even for beginners as it is still and shallow). The hosts were great to deal with and gave us a lovely bowl of apples from their garden. One thing to note is that there is some road noise as you are reasonably close to the highway. The cottage was well supplied and great when sunny and rainy!

Elspeth is an excellent host and you can see the heart and soul that goes into restoring this beautiful peninsula! Incredible accommodation with a spectacular history and story. Perfect location for seeing all the best parts of the Nelson, Tasman!

We came, we stayed, we didn't wish to leave...! The Mapua area has a classic Nelson-esque microclimate - the Karaka cottage was warm when we arrived, without any heat pump or fire going - and it's July (by going there we missed the worst of the terrible southerly this week). Lovely sunsets, an outdoor bath, lots of walking and just lounging about staring at wonderful estuary landscapes (and all the bird life etc that means)... photos attached. Elspeth is a wonder and the area so lovely and relaxing, and if you need some local colour, Mapua township has some good eateries etc. Good antiques in nearby Richmond, too. Thanks so much for looking after us, Elspeth Collier. Highly recommended!

We had the happiest stay in Karaka Cottage. With an incredible view over the estuary and surrounded by indigenous vegetation, we had the luxury of witnessing the changing of the tides, sunrises with coffee in hand and an infinity of birdlife and birdsong. The outside tub was a sublime experience with its ceiling of star-infused sky. We went for long rambling walks and barely encountered another human! Fabulous. The cottage itself is simple and charming and well-equipped with unwavering attention to detail. Good quality linen, handmade soap and a fantastic organic breakfast box which was well worth the extra. The décor is reminiscent of mid-century modern style, which is somehow completely fitting. We enjoyed more than one bottle of local wine overlooking the water after a day of fresh air. And Elspeth and Kim were extremely attentive hosts without being invasive. What a magical experience!

We loved our holiday in Rata cottage, and really enjoyed sitting out on the covered verandah in the evenings (which, incidentally, were blessedly free of biting insects, which was a great relief after having been bitten raw by sand flies on our journey up the west coast.)
The property is really beautiful, and we were very impressed with all the native planting around the estuary, and the gardening work being done by a team of very charming Swiss/French wwoofers. This is a very special place.

We loved our recent stay in Miro cottage. I am in admiration & so impressed with all the hard work going on with the restoration of habitats for the local native flora & fauna, especially on the the edge of the estuary. Fabulous to stay in and all is so eco-friendly & organic.

Our stay at Apple Pickers met our expectations in every way. The cottage is stylish, comfortable and has everything you need to immediately feel relaxed. Thoughtful touches like fresh flowers and herbs make the cottage feel like home. The kitchen is very well designed and equiped, making preparing a simple dinner a delight.
There is a great variety of spots to sit and relax outside, there is always a sheltered spot to find, and relax in a hammock.
The breakfast box was delicious and very generous. Freshly made sour dough, eggs and fruit from the cottage garden, with organic milk and yoghurt ,made this a very special way to wake up.
We miss it already and can't wait to go back.

We stayed in a cottage right at the edge of the estuary. A beautiful place to wake up to. very sunny and peaceful. Elspeth provided lots of goodies including superb home-baked bread.

So peaceful and welcoming and relaxing, and in a beautiful spot. I wanted to stay there forever and never return to civilisation. Elspeth also left me this amazing fresh bread, milk, butter, and granola! I was very happy.

(Translated) Beautifully situated at the end of the "inlet". Not really luxurious, but the basis is there. Kayaking from your own garden is possible.
