Fran our server was AMAZING! She was chill, friendly and accommodating as we had a few out of the box requests. The drinks are great, so is the food and the atmosphere! Will definitely be back when in Martinborough

Good quick service although busy. The chicken wings were very tasty, the chips were great and the bread and dips very morish. I would highly recommend to try the experience o, I certainly will again Thank you

Friendly staff with a great menu. Situated by the city Centre. Great setting. Outdoor sitting has gas heaters so you can sit a people watch. Great coffee and cold beer.

The Martinborough Hotel is the iconic landmark in Martinborough. It sits on the square. A nice central spot to stay. The hotel staff are friendly and welcoming. It offers a cosy lounge/library to sit in the front of a fire place and read and relax. Our room was cosy, historic and comfortable. The rooms are not numbered but named after notary people who have made a difference in the Wairarapa. There is no lift so you need to be able to carry yourself and your bags upstairs. A nice place to stay.

Lovely and simple just a great all round place. Staff are lovely and the drink is lovely.

We had lunch around 2 pm today and the front of house lady was really helpful and friendly, the way staff should be! The sausages are super!

We didn't stay as it was booked out. Went for meals and drinks while we visited martinborough. I have to say the food was fantastic but the staff were better. Everyone was great. Ann was fantastic and made each visit a pleasure. No complaints at all ..

This a fantastic location. We just stayed 3 nights here and it was great. The rooms are very tasteful and the staff are welcoming and attentive. We had two meals at the pub, both were exceptional and of course were accompanied by some fine local wines. Don't book anywhere else.

We loved our stay at the Martinborough Hotel last week. It felt like a bit of luxury away from home. The rooms exceeded all expectations and we have high expectations! Having the in-house restaurant and bar which provided delicious food and great service topped off a great stay!

Beautiful large room at the end of the garden. Quiet, high quality linen, towels and toiletries, together with everything you could need in our room - little details were thought of in every way. The staff were excellent, very helpful and the owner extremely patient helping our group with transport arrangements when we visited local wineries which are right on the doorstep. A weekend away with family, friends or a conference retreat. You couldn’t ask for a better countryside boutique hotel in the Wairapa, New Zealand.

Great food and drink. Only let down was that the table we reserved was unknowingly in the corner by the door. Everytime someone went through it, it was very cold, especially now we're in winter. This should not be a table option in a winter as it was very uncomfortable and put a dampener on the experience. We also finished with our drinks and waited 40 minutes plus if we'd like more but it didn't happen, so got the bill for the table instead. Food was delicious, pork was slightly overdone nevertheless the flavours were excellent, though. I will be back, but will make sure we're not sitting where we were last time.

Coffee was less than average. Service at payment was attentive and helpful.

Such a wonderful weekend away. The hotel is fabulous - the rooms are gorgeous, linen envy. The staff are so thoughtful, friendly and helpful. Outstanding food in the restaurant that's part of the hotel (it's a must try, don't forget to book), and Martinborough itself is such a lovely place to visit. Great yoga class, Mt biking for the boys and lots of wineries to visit. Felt very rested and revived

Dinner was good. Nice range of wines. Best breakfast I've had in ages. Good portion of side of smoked salmon. Perfect scrambled eggs. Excellent mochachino. Will definitely recommend as place to visit if ever in martinborough

Grand old hotel lovingly restored with great attention to detail. A great place to base yourself for a Martinborough getaway. The service and food was excellent. Toasty warm room and the library nook with fireplace was great on a frosty morning. We stayed in the Bidwill room which had sunset views from the room and balcony. Would definitely recommend.

A fabulous weekend away in Martinborough. We loved our stay at the Hotel - so much character and our room was warm and well appointed. The food was great and we enjoyed trying some of the local wines and gins. We will be back!

Loved our stay at the Martinborough hotel - we had the New York room and it was gorgeous. Ashley & Co products are my fav too, the claw foot bath was gorgeous! I highly recommend the staff were really attentive

Janine the receptionist was so welcoming with her friendly local hospitality, checking in was a breeze. Room was immaculate, Owners Tim & Jacinda were very helpful with their local knowledge of wineries & attractions to checkout, Pinacles was a highlight as was Stonecuttter cellar door tasting, with local artist Karl Scott's work on show.

This was our 2nd stay at the Martinborough Hotel This time with a newborn. We stayed 2 nights and loved it. Such a beautiful historic building, super comfortable beds and tasteful decor. We can't wait to visit again soon.

Had everything you needed! Don’t bother taking your shampoo from home ☝️ and got a good night sleep. Staff are friendly and so welcoming A++. Jason from the restaurant looked after us during our dining (much appreciated). Overall I give Martinborough Hotel a 10/10...

We stayed here for two nights just before New Zealand had to go into Covid19 lockdown. Despite the situation, we really enjoyed our days here and can highly recommend the hotel. The rooms are really nice, the service is friendly and the owners are super helpful. We also had dinner and lunch at the adjacent restaurant/bar and were more than satisfied. Thank you for being so kind to us during these difficult times. We hope to come back one day and continue our trip where we had to stopp.

We are from overseas (as in the South Island) and this is our 2nd visit to the Martinborough Hotel for dinner. We loved it on our first visit and were equally happy the second time around! Menu was broad and appealing, wait staff charming and professional, and food, well... great😆 we also loved the building. Just such a memorable experience. We will be back for sure, and will recommend it to others.

Went to the Martinborough Hotel for a meal over Labour Weekend. Very busy but the kitchen coped well with our meals only taking ten minutes if that. Good service, great wine list, average menu. Friendly atmosphere with both inside and outside tables.

Coffee and snacks (squid and fries) were great. Service was good. Music inside a tad too loud - took away some of the nice calm/warm atmosphere.

Stayed in the original building and loved the character. Had dinner in the restaurant and had a steak that was so soft it just melted in your mouth. That alone would make come back.

Staff seemed stressed and rushed when we arrived. We're quickly sat directly next to the doorway but we're eventually moved on request to a quieter table. Sat for 20 minutes waiting for a drinks order. Overpriced Sunday roast which was nice but hardly worth the $30. The chocolate fondant was delicious. We might have caught them on an unexpectedly busy Sunday night but it definitely underdelivered....

Really enjoyed our stay in the hotel. The chief(s) in the restaurant went above and beyond to accommodate my wife's allergies and intolerances. This always gets 5 stars when a restaurant does this as it can be very difficult to eat out otherwise.

I was lucky to receive a lovely weekend getaway with my wife as a 40th birthday present. Great location as right in the heart of Martinborough. We had our daughter with us in a seperate room and I was a little alarmed that the door onto the hotel veran*** did not actually lock. The staff were very pleasant and helpfull.

Mixed bag on this. Dinner menu looks great but only had brunch and lunches of which the last burger didn't feel like good value but the service was good.

This was an amazing place, the most amount of action the towns had since establishment with a local fire when we stayed. The area is 1-2km from wineries. The issue in winter is no one in the area has any idea what’s going on with pot luck to what’s open but winter is a great time to visit as it’s quiet.

The service was great as were the staff. Beautiful Heritage hotel with very friendly staff who were very welcoming. Our room with a balcony was spotlessly clean and had every comfort you could wish for. The wine centre opposite was a good places to visit to get information on the area.

A victim of its own success. Too many patrons, too few staff. Queues at the bar, tables that need cleaning, food that takes an age to get to you.

We recently got married at the Martinborough Hotel, and to say we were happy would be a gross understatement. We organised it remotely from Australia, and Janine and her entire team were helpful, friendly, enthusiastic and brilliant to deal with. Not only are the staff great, the accommodation is beautiful, the hotel has both modern and vintage vibes, and oozes charm and style. We had our wedding in the private dining room, the food and wine were world-class, the service team were delightful and the room was perfect. Thank you to everyone at the Martinborough Hotel for making our wedding such a wonderful night. We'll see you next year for our first year anniversary <3

Rooms were quirky and extremely clean. We were given a very large upstairs room in the garden annex and were delighted. The staff were all very friendly and made us feel very welcome. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Martinborough, it has a beautiful relaxed feeling and everything was lovely.

Had a beautiful Sunday roast which was actually beautifully cooked scotch filled with hassleback potatoes with veges. Lovely meal and service

Having driven from Wellington late at night we were delighted to find this quaint town center hotel. Friendly and approachable staff were able to provide good advice. On closer inspection realised that our room had had only a surface clean. Highly recommended for a stay in the beautiful Wairarapa valley.

The location of this hotel is perfect. I was in a garden room which was spacious and had most of what you would need. The bathroom was quite sizeable too though would have benefitted from a bath. Nice tiled bathroom with underfloor heating. Definitely a great place for a leisurely break.

Drinks very over -priced. Pretty hard to wrap my head around a $15 Gin Lime and Soda. That's actually more expensive than Ponsonby road, the ground rent cant be remotely comporable! The food was deliscious, unfortunately my meal came as the other three people at my table had finished, it also did a lap around the restaraunt, outside and then back in, so had cooled down... despite every other plate at the table completely empty, no apology, in fact she plonked it down very unceremoniously and walked off and leaned at the servery area. To make it worse the empty plates of my fellow diners were cleared around me as I started my meal, so everyone was left watching me eat. Very awkward. Very unprofessional. And again, not a cheap eatery. If you're going to play as a big boy and charge the big city money at least do it with some professionalism, you're charginig for it so deliver it. I would order my meal again, however I would definitely look at the other places to eat first. Good food however I like to eat at the same time as my fellow guests, and when mistakes happen at least acknowledge them.

Good food but portion size was just not enough. Spent about $26 on steak but was hungry after and had to spend at KFC. Had 3more friends with me and all had same experience. Food quality was good though.

If you want the best espresso martini available in wellington area then the bar here is the venue. Rosebud not shabby neither.

A lovingly restored grand old hotel. Lots of charm retained yet with up-to-date amenities. The dining experience was second to none, with a Michelin-starred chef working his magic with fresh and local ingredients.

Staff were friendly, food was great as was the build your own gin cocktail. The service was a bit slow but that may have been due to a busy night. Thought the menu was a little overpriced

Beautiful hotel with plenty of history to share. I love the small library downstairs with plush sofas and peace and quiet. A lovely place to relax. The suites upstairs are beautiful with spacious views of the Square.

Old world charm at its best. Great restaurant and room amenities to match. Only point to improve the experience would be to reduce the refrigeration machinery noise. Definitely would stay again.

Beautiful hotel but only steep stairs to reach second floor and shower was in a high sided bath which wasn't easy to use with a hip problem. But lovely spacious rooms and regrettably only stayed one night as I would have loved to work my way through the menu.

I went along on a Sunday morning for a friend's birthday breakfast and was very pleased with my waffle dish and the bottomless pinot coffee, am already looking forward to visiting when I return to Martinborough again, definitely one very happy customer!

What a lovely, charming hotel. Staff and service very good. The hotel will arrange wine tours and it is a perfect location for ***y wineries. Not a lot to do in the area if you are not a wine drinker but a lovely relaxing weekend away which we would recommend to anyone.

We were here for the Jazz festival and ate here on the Friday night. Bar staff were great and knew what wine to recommend. Food was delicious and service was great.

My wife and I held my 40th here which turned into a surprise wedding. Janine and her team were excellent, helping with getting the details organised all via email, as we live in Melbourne Australia. The food served at our dinner was impeccable and the staff were lovely. Thanks so very much!

Martinborough Square is a delightful location. Sitting on the balcony in the sun, with a nice bottle of local Chardonnay watching the evening draw in is very pleasant. The wines where excellent and food was great and well presented. Hotel services perfect such as the location, right in the centre.

Just popped in for some drinks. Great gin selection if you're getting tired of the wine. Nice atmosphere to relax in. Menu looked good and varied.

Food in restaurant was superb if you get chance to order Moroccan pomegranate lamb rump on cauliflower couscous and sour cherry sauce then do so. Best meal in last 3 weeks touring North island.

Average facilities more reminiscent of an up market rural hotel than a heritage resort. Old school cut TV that only got two channels properly, no dvd player. Beds are older and appear to be all queens. Should be king or super king. All said, if you want an experience, the M hotel is perfectly placed for a weekend escape, a rose on the balcony above the main square is divine and the bar is friendly

The history of this place is up on the walls. NZ needs more restored taverns like this. Amazing to see, backed up with friendly excellent service and good menu options.

Central Martinborough, lovely old hotel, great rooms, comfortable bed, rooms well appointed. Bathroom great included a claw foot bath which was great for a soak. Public bar was good and had a superb meal in the hotels restaurant.

A classic hotel in central Martinborough with fine food and great wine. A must visit place while visiting Martinborough. The staff were helpful and attentive and owner only too happy to help out when needed.

Historic pub with good food and beer set in a quaint rural town

We went to the hotel for a meal. We had not been there for about 10 months. It now has new owners and chefs. With this change it has lost its uniqueness and is now just like any other bistro. We had the antipasto platter which was great. I then had the grilled pork. It was under cooked and I sent it back. The waitress handled the complaint very well and the meal was replaced without fuss and this was cooked perfectly. My wife had the rhubarb creme brulee. Unfortunately the creme was not set properly set caused by the water from the rhubarb diluting the creme. I cannot fault the service However the most disturbing part of the evening was one of the chefs who had a drink then wiped his face with a tea towel. Then after touching his face he wiped his hands on the tea towel. When I was paying the bill I observed the same cheff (still with tea towel in hand) pick up two pieces of raw meat and place them on the grill plate. He then wiped his hands on his pants. I think that chef needs to reacquaint himself with basic hygiene standards.
