The staff is really friendly and welcoming.
Talk to them for deals in town, jobs or just to have a nice conversation.
Showers and toilets are clean, as well as the kitchen and outside area.
Would go back there anytime!
D.The girl who worked in the office was incredibly helpful and sorted me out even though I arrived a little late. Have to admit the place is pretty pricey for a Backpackers, though this seems to be the trend for the area. Facilities were ok, nice outdoors area.
n.From the moment I arrived at this hostel I was welcomed by staff and everyone who was already living in this hostel. The staff on reception are so nice and I ended being very good friends with them. Everyone was so friendly and it was very easy to make friends as I was travelling by myself. I was invited to go out on the night I first arrived and by the end of the end of the night I had literally met the whole hostel, its a small hostel which is great as it means everyone is like a family, the vibes here are so chilled. I ended up staying in this hostel for 7 months. There is a good mix of work and party. I have made friends here that I will have for life.
the facilities are in good condition also as its a small hostel the kitchen is a little small which can crowded when everyone is trying to cook all at once, there is only 1 washing machine and dryer in the whole hostel but there is a laundrette down the road which is pretty much the same price and has numerous machines there. there are 3 showers for all in the hostel but you never find yourself having to wait for them. great stay!
K.This Hostel is by far the best in Mount Maunganui, my 1 month stay quickly turned into 6 for the sole reason that this place is unrivalled in good times. Not to mention a genuine backpacker homeliness you simply can't get with bigger hostels. The staff are spectacular people who won't kick you out on your arse with the first sign of 'backpacker transgression' (To which I have had many) and therefore have actual souls. Is this hostel perfect? Nope, and for the reasons, everyone has stated (Facilities, Noise, Space etc.) But it doesn't matter. This place will forever be where I spent approximately 0.6% of my ENTIRE life and met the most incredible people. Thank you, the people of Mount Backpackers.
K.Absolutely amazing experience at mount backpackers! It’s right in the middle of town so the action is only a step out the door. Right when I walked in the staff made me feel like family! It has a great chill and friendly vibe with a clean kitchen and sweet movie room. So happy I chose to stay at mount backpackers and be apart of such a great group of people.

R.I've stayed here twice now. The staff are always amazingly friendly and welcoming. Clean bathrooms and bedrooms, there always seems to be a nice mix of long-termers and short-termers. Located a 10 min walk from the beach and within 5 mins you have a choice of plenty of bars and restaurants. Overall, I've only had a positive experience here and would recommend staying whether you are looking for a place to stay for a night or a long term base.

S.I am so happy that i stumbled across this place. I was in an 8 bed dorm and everyone was respectful, slept like a baby. The place is very communal and has a friendly social vibe. I didnt get a chance to surf but if its the perfect place to learn or practice, you can rent everything you need and walk to the beach!
As I was checking out, the owner noticed I was planning to hitch hike and drove me to a perfect spot to stand! we chatted and shes a super cool lady.
The best part about this hostel is the generosity and kindness of the volunteer staff. I left my hiking boots in my room and they texted me notifying me that they found them. They even express shipped them to me all the way to the south island and I had them in two days! This cost them money and time and lots of driving!

B.The Backpackers hostel is under new ownership and they are absolutely loving life. The staff have such bright and glowing personalities which creates such a welcoming vibe. It in an Incredible location with tons of great places to eat and drink. they have bikes and surfboards for hire, and pristine beaches with gorgeous views. There's also a friendly kitty who loves to be pet. All around great experience.
L.I'm a traveler from Germany with the Working Visa. I have stayed for already two months here. It's very familiar with lovely staff. I made lot's of friends from all over the world here.
I also liked to have family dinners with the people here.
It's a great place for long term stay.

J.A hostel that can provide you a minute walk to the MOUNTAIN and the beautiful beach. It’s a must-go place for backpackers who want to revel in the life of a Surfer!! :D I have to admit that the waves here are not as crazy as the ones that take place in Raglan. But they probably perfect for beginners who never stood on a board before. Mount Backpackers also has the cheapest rental for boards and wetsuits!! However, for simple fun and celebration, Tauranga is a good place to go. Fortunately, you can always hop to these bars and clubs if you are temporarily residing in mount backpackers.
The friendly stuff will help you out with informations about the busses and nicest places around.
If you are looking for a place in Tauranga thats definitely the place to stay!!
