A.
Stunningly beautiful old building with all its gorgeous features retained. We had a very comfortable night away on a package which included dinner and breakfast. We had absolutely no complaints - our dinner was delicious , we enjoyed the complimentary glass of Port in the Library, had a great night sleep, and enjoyed a lovely breakfast. The service was warm and friendly while maintaining a "nothing is too much trouble" vibe, and exceptional old-school customer service. We highly recommend a stay here and will definitely be back !
M.
Enjoyed a 2 night stay. The service was fabulous with staff very attentive. The food was superb having enjoyed both breakfast and dinner. Churchills Bar was a lovely spot to enjoy a drink before dinner. The location was great to enjoy a short walk to the seafront and town centre. Highly recommended.
P.
A wonderful opportunity to experience some of the grandeur and quaintness of another time. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome. We also ate in the Churchill restaurant on our final evening - a really superb meal of the highest standard. We were looked after by Janine - a wonderful ambassador for the County Hotel who was knowledgeable in local wines and made some great recommendations. We will be returning to the County Hotel at the first opportunity !

We spent a few nights away in Napier and chose this wonderful old hotel as our accomodation.
No regrets there. Well located, well maintained and certainly an icon in the historic inner city.
The breakfast was very good and the staff were welcoming and friendly. Thanks guys for our stay with you.
J.
Hotel is in a great location, the room was very comfortable and had all we needed. The staff were superb and could not do enough for us. Would go there again.🌹🌹🌹

We come here often because we are in love with the historic atmosphere that The County provides. No other hotel has such original features that are so celebrated by the owner and staff. We always receive such a warm welcome, and appreciate those little extra touches that make our stay feel even more special.
The restaurant is highly recommended, serving fantastic dinner options, and the breakfast is always a highlight.
The library is absolutely gorgeous, a fantastic space that we often find ourselves relaxing in, playing cards, reading, or enjoying the complimentary port. The rooms vary in design but all compliment the feel of the Hotel very well. Some rooms on the second floor have lovely balconies where you can escape the summer heat and watch the world go by.
If you're in Napier to experience the history and architectural treasures, then this is the only place to stay!
T.
Stayed 2 nights. Fantastic helpful friendly service from Sue.restuarant had a superb beef wellington and great breakfast next morning. We tried to get a similar deal for my partners mum and dad by calling the hotel directly but not much luck.
W.
What a wonderful hotel. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful the atmosphere is very special and the dine in experience fantastic. I would definitely recommend it.
T.
Wonderful staff, the food was amazing, beautiful building. Highly recommend this restaurant.
P.
Had a lovely Christmas dinner at the hotel with friends on Christmas Eve. Fabulous meal, excellent service in a very pleasant environment.
D.
Lovely atmosphere, beautiful food, fantastic service. Highly recommend
B.
Went to County Hotel for Brunch for Art Deco lovely meal 😊
K.
Lovely boutique hotel in the heart of Napier, with exceptional service. We dealt with three different staff members and they were all lovely, professional, friendly and really made the stay what it was. Breakfast was intimate, relaxing and we were lucky to have Chris host us. The rooms are nice, we stayed in a King Superior. The only thing was that the rooms are not very sound proof so if you are a light sleeper take ear plugs - i suspect this is the case at most of the older buildings that host hotels in Napier and don't let it put you off!! The building itself was so interesting, and there were so many little touches like a note slipped under the door in the morning with a newspaper cutting from 100 years ago on that day to wake up to that made the experience uniquely what it was. The little bar downstairs was cute, and the dining room/restaurant has a lovely feel and look.
P.
Very nice, friendly staff. Great meal and good selection of local beer and wine.
T.
First class in every way... Service, food, accommodation, ambience... and to top it, great value.... A must!!
R.
Lovely atmosphere in the hotel, the staff were very friendly and the meals were very well prepared and also very tasty
G.
Wonderful place to stay. We always get free room upgrades and last time we were there free wine too! Lovely reception staff, highly recommend 😊
D.
Had a really great bed and breakfast stay at the County, staff friendly and attentive, food excellent, parking across the road, comfortable bed and suite, very close to city well within walking distance. Hotel itself very interesting from Churchill bar to a port in the library. Will visit again.
J.
Wonderful stay. Efficient and personable staff. Friendly and welcoming. Will be back.
Fantastic food and wine list.
j.
We had a great evening with friends but this was not quite the fine dining experience I was expecting. We poured our own wines as staff did not offer. Our white wine was not put in an ice bucket so a few minor service issues. I was a bit disappointed in my meal. A vegetarian dish that was a bit dry so just ok. Other guests at our table thoroughly enjoyed their meal so it was not all disappointing. Staff were friendly and atmosphere was nice. No music so easy to chat.
S.
Service excellent ,closeness to town excellent. Room very neat, and tidy. Amenities excellent . Curtains a little to tall for the room and had to pull across . But would highly recommend . Napier is a top spot. We came on the art deco weekend (which we didn't know was on) . Brilliant ,everyone dressed nup. Stay at The County Hotel, you won't regret it.
M.
A beautiful hotel. It was comfortable and atmospheric and the service and complimentary offerings made us feel particularly welcome. Excellently situated at the edge of the CBD and just off marine parade
D.
This is a lovely old hotel, beautifully preserved and maintained. Loved the ambience and decor, the library and free Port in the evenings. The staff went above and beyond, being helpful with great advice and suggestions. Location is great, allowing excellent access to the downtown facilities.
The only down side was that our room could not get warm - the heater was over a large ledge, which blocked heating, so we could never quite get warm.
Definitely return.
C.
What an awesome place. We LOVED the personal touch. The daily in-room treats, the complimentary port in the library each evening, and the staff that takes such great care to know you by name and assist you in every way possible! It was like staying with your favorite relatves!! We would love to go back!!
C.
Very stylish hotel, central to shops and beach. We had a lovely room, wood paneled and with a modern and generous bathroom. There is an air conditioner but we had the windows open so didn't need it and slept well. The library has a great selection of books and a decanter of port for a nightcap. The receptionist was very helpful. We had dinner in the Churchill restaurant, a very tasty scallops mornay for my wife and I had a delicious kidney and bacon plate. We shall stay again.
G.
This is a beautiful hotel. Love all the woodwork and decorations. It takes you back in time. Love it. The owner came and said hello. The staff were very helpful. We had them book a wine tour last minute which was awesome! Love this hotel. The rooms are very comfortable.
P.
Beautiful boutique motel in the heart of Napier.
Initially booked one night and changed it to two pretty much immediately after seeing the motel and room.
Room was very comfortable and wonderfully decorated.
Friendly helpful staff, very nice restaurant and well stocked bar. Everyone does their best to make your stay a good one.
A library to relax in as well as free port to enjoy.
Thanks tor the great stay everyone.
S.
This place has an amazing interior and is well kept. The rooms are furnished in a pretty old fashioned style in keeping with the nature of the hotel. It just lacks that certain something - very hard to explain what. I do wish all hotels would stop putting those strange polyester covers over the beds - they are not nice - nothing is more inviting than a crisp cotton sheet!
B.
Very friendly hosts and staff who would help you in any way, top quality food, comfortable room and great location. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again.
R.
What a wonderful place for a couple of days retreat.
The hotel itself is beautiful and the staff is extremely nice and helpful. We were very well taken care of.
Lots of great places to eat nearby and the library in the hotel is the perfect place to relax with a good book after a day in the sun. And of course sip a glass of the complimentary port.
S.
Top notch experience in a period building in central city with excellent food and friendly staff
J.
Lovely historic hotel. Rooms are all named after birds which makes a nice change from numbers. There's a lovely library area to relax in and port is available in the evening for residents. The restaurant and bar serve delicious food and wine with friendly staff. Love it here!
S.
What lovely boutique hotel indeed. The Winston Churchill memorabilia made it just that much more special. Lovely staff - very helpful and accommodating. Comfy beds, clean rooms and overall a great experience. Very central location and truly boutique in nature since every room felt unique in itself. The free port and snacks scattered around the hotel added to the welcoming atmosphere. They even have a cell phone in each room in case you need a local number... Excellent indeed!
D.
Full of character and friendly staff. From the moment you arrive you are made to feel welcome - the check-in involves a guided tour of the hotel and your room (the amenities). It's like a step back in time. The hotel is beautifully preserved and in keeping with the character of the old town. Theres a piano room, a library and free port for that final tipple before bed. The location is perfect - just a minutes walk from the beach, shops and restaurants. I have to call out breakfast! The Eggs Royale (eggs benedict with smoked salmon) was amazing ! I wish I could have eaten a second plate! The salmon was perfectly cooked and is sourced locally from one supplier who has been catching and providing the fish for many years. Really enjoyed my stay here.
R.
First the staff, always helpful and friendly, a pleasure to meet. The room generous in size and very comfortable. The hotel is a charmer, not the latest in mod cons, but absolutely recommended it. And did I mention the library? And complimentary port?
M.
This is the best hotel i stayed at during my trip to New Zealand. I was very impressed with the courtesy and friendliness of the staff. They had free Port (wine) to enjoy while you stay here. The room was absolutely beautiful. They provide a free nearby parking lot for guests just across the street.
L.
Great location, close to the town centre and the water front. Complimentary port and fruit throughout the time of your stay, lovely Art Deco style every corner you turn, and a comfortable library to have a quite read. Friendly staff and nice restaurant.
J.
We were there for the Christmas Day meal and enjoyed the whole experience. Staff were friendly and the food excellent. Loved seeing all the bottles of wine on the walls!
S.
A really top class restaurant. The service was outstanding and the food was packed full of flavour, choices demonstrated the quality and standards of high end dining experience in Napier.
K.
I recently stayed at The County Hotel in Napier (where I have stayed several times in the past over the last few years). In all, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and experience and was particularly impressed with how friendly and helpful the hotel and restaurant staff were. The hotel is beautifully maintained and the Chambers Restaurant serves a generous breakfast every morning. The highlight for me was spending an evening sipping cocktails in the sun outside the bar, enjoying the tapas bar menu and watching the sun go down. Would highly recommend The County Hotel to anyone visiting Napier.
b.
We loved it here. Lovely old Art Deco place. Grand rooms and interior decor. Staff friendly and helpful. Loved the nice touch of decanters of complimentary port all over the place, particularly in the library - very civilised last thing before retiring.
c.
Chris & reception staff welcomed us as old friends ! We loved the timber panelling and the history of the old hotel immediately. We also appreciated the tourist information that we received upon arrival. Our room was clean & spacious and our bed was extremely comfortable too. Complimentary port & fruit is also a lovely touch. We dined at the hotel's Wine St Restaurant.....our experience was 'par excellence !' Our meal began with a shared seafood platter...yummo....with a delicious local pinot gris....and the odyssey continued with local eye fillet & pork belly again with an outstanding local shiraz. Our meal was further enhanced with a complimentary dessert each....wow ! I highly recommend the County...we will be back !!!!!!!!!!
D.
Very friendly and helpful staff throughout the hotel, restaurant and bar. We stayed in the Tieki room, which has a partial view of the ocean; I'm guessing most other rooms don't have an ocean view. The bathroom lacks privacy because its door is slatted. The breakfast buffet is good, though at busy times things tended to run out and take a while to be replaced because there was only one waitress. I found the restaurant dishes tried too hard to be fancy; the lamb dish I tried tasted only of sauce and not lamb. If I ate at the hotel again, I'd try the bar menu as it is similar but less fussy.
S.
Old world charm
Located in the Art Deco precinct, this lovely boutique hotel exudes old world charm and elegance. The decor is just gorgeous and the staff are really friendly and welcoming. There are lots of nice little touches too - apples, kiwi fruit, port and lemon water. All the rooms are named after birds - we stayed in the Mockie which had a spacious bathroom with a spa bath.
W.
My husband surprised me with a night at the County Hotel and a three course dinner at their fantastic restaurant. It was the perfect romantic escape.
The room was elegant with every mod con provided and yet presented in such a way that it didn't conflict with the "old world" charm of the hotel.
There was something magical about sharing a candle lit dinner (with some of the finest wine in New Zealand), reading a book with a complimentary glass of port in the hotel library and then retiring to one of the most comfortable beds I've ever experienced in a hotel.
I highly recommend this beautiful hotel!
p.
Lovely room in well maintained art deco building only 2 minutes walk from the main seaside prominade.
The staff are all very friendly and responsive.
Some interesting things. The rooms have names now numbers. Clues to tge buildings histpry are around including the large vaults.
The hotel has a delightful library carefully furnished to take you back to the thirties. There is also complimentary port available.
The only issue was the toaster at breakfast which was not fast enough to handle the quantity of guests.
P.
Great little hotel with a story round every corner. The owner made us feel really welcome and special, and the tempura prawns at the restaurant are to die for!
L.
The place was absolutely gorgeous, I'm sad we only stayed one night. The staff were super attentive. Lots of little details including muffins in our room, copies of old newspapers with our welcome letter and complimentary port in the library before bed.
Definitely recommend.
M.
The staff are amazing, so loverly and helpful
A beautiful place to stay 4 days was not enough.
Special thanks to Angie & Lisa
I.
This a beautiful hotel situated in an heritage building. The staff are very courteous and helpful. The location is very handy to all tourist attraction and the waterfront. Would definitely come back here again.
A.
Impressive decoration in the room we stayed in. The entire hotel is right out of the early 20th century. Attention to detail is excellent. Best place we have stayed so far in New Zealand on the north island.
J.
Love the County.cosy old fashioned comfort and welcome with some charming surprises. i.e. a little plate of fresh cupcakes delivered to your door each morning. A weather report and page from the local newspaper on this day 80 years ago slipped under your door. A sunny greeting at reception and from all staff and a well stocked intimate bar, and even complimentary port in the little library. We can't wait to return.
p.
Very good services lovely meals and excellent customer service. Will come back again,I recommend county hotel.
C.
A super dining experience. A beautiful building with stunning decor. Meals were of a very high standard. Service a little less than would be expected but maybe just short staffed.
D.
Wonderful staff. So friendly and helpful.

B.
Great place to stay. Lovely clean well appointed rooms. Very friendly and helpful staff. I'll stay here again.
S.
I stayed at the County Hotel in Napier with my husband for our wedding anniversary. We had booked one of the great deals called "DBB" Dinner, Bed and Breakfast. Our room was simply astonishing. We stayed in a room called ROA. The entire atmosphere and charm of the hotel is unique. Dinner was truly world-class and the manager on duty took her time to stop by and asked if everything was to our expectations. Service you don t get in the big hotels. Overall, we had a great experience and stay and will definitely stay there again and again. Being in the hotel industry myself, you appreciate small boutique hotels aiming for excellence and showing their passion.
L.
Service above and beyond
A lovely night out. Food was amazing. Go for the food but stay for the service. Cheryl the host was simply amazing and so helpful. We loved it so much we have booked for the end of the week.
V.
Another return trip to Napier and my usual stop for accommodation,
The County offers a bit of style and charm and a nice retreat from the Hawkes Bay summer.
I always enjoy the individual character of the rooms and location is excellent.
The County has the best little bar in town and great food.
Always recommend a stay...
B.
Stopped in with friends for pre dinner drinks. What a special unique spot for a quiet drink and conversation. Bar staff really helpful and attentive. Nice selections available on drinks menu.
S.

C.
Fabulous staff and ambiance. I've never stayed at a hotel quite like it, highly recommend staying here!
A.
Great bar menu. Nice new outdoor seating on the shady eastside ( appreciated on 30C days). The County is underrated in my opinion - try it!

There attention to detail is perfect

Z.
Welcoming staff and well appointed. Keeps a unique historical vibe, with modern amenities. Complimentary port in the library a signature touch.
C.
Cozy survivor of the historic earthquake, the former office building has an intimate and exclusive feel. Restaurant is tops, some amenities a little long in the tooth.
J.
Fantastic Art and Deco Style hotel with extremely Friendly , helpful and experienced Staff. Appreciate the "chaleureuse " atmosphere from the library .Thank you very much , we will be back . JP
G.
Have stayed a couple of times now and would never think of staying elsewhere while in Napier. A special nostalgic place with warm and friendly service.

It would be a waste for anyone to visit Napier without having a stay overnight at County Hotel, best experience ever the service is proffesional and the food at the wine street restaurant is something must try during the visit to Napier

Great place, old world, friendly welcome. Very convenient to Napier CBD.

Because of the thin narrow windows the hotel doesn't have nice sunshine coming though so much which was slightly disappointing. Staffs were nice and always smiling nicely.

(Translated) A chance that this place has withstood the elements in this city rebuilding Art Deco style. History, woodwork, books, paintings and old objects; its pretty library where you will be offered a good port; his Cognac cellar too, in an old safe.
Pleasant and helpful staff.
Hotel parking $ 10.
50 meters from the sea, all shops nearby.
To advice.

(Translated) Old hotel, tastefully refurbished in Art Deco style. In addition, very centrally located by the sea and the city. Many shops are within walking distance. It lacks a pool or a gym, if you need it. Otherwise, a very nice experience, the port can be drunk for free. We liked it there.

(Translated) Great Art Deco hotel with lots of charm, rooms in the style of the time, but with modern technology, very personable, friendly staff, good restaurant
Conclusion: there are some shortcomings in detail, but the friendliness charmingly compensated for them, and would stay there again and again
