Small comfortable motel in Putotino, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand just off the road very suitable for those touring. The food is reasonable and the restroom are clean. The whole place could do with an overhaul as it is looking a bit weathered. The staff are friendly and made us a fresh sandwich. Pity no draft beer just bottles when we stopped by.

EV charging station available. Nice restaurant though we were a little too late to grab lunch. Clean restrooms. Got a nice meat pie and lasagna. The bar does seem a little weathered. This also happens to be the NZ Intercity Bus pit stop.

Our Wairoa Caravan Club held the Eastern Region of caravans at the Sports Grounds behind the Waikare Hotel. The facilities there are clean and warm. Great place to camp.
Then we had a smorgasbord meal at the Waikare hotel. The meal was wonderful with such a great variety of food and plenty of it. All looked homemade. We didn't have one complaint. Would recommend the Waikare Hotel to anyone for service and meals.
Thanks to everyone
Cheers Margaret

Stopped in here today on our way back to Hastings to discover that it is now under new ownership 👍 We were greeted by a lovely Māori lady who gave us all the left over Kai for FREE. It was well consumed! She sat with us and had a good ole chat. Great service, great people, great vision for the place. I will tell everyone I know to stop in.

Great place for a stop on the way to/from Napier to Gisborne. There is a good selection of cabinet food, a full bar and a lovely verandah to sit and watch the huge logging trucks rattle by, one every couple of minutes.
The staff are very friendly and helpful, although the business was up for sale when we went through (Dec 2014)
Coffee was great, no problems there.
There are are clean and presentable rest rooms, tidier for the ladies than the men however.

We stopped here on the way to Napier because it was advertised as the place to stop. Well, they didn't have our beer on tap or in bottles so we settled for alternatives. The place was run down and toilets are in need of spruce up. We did appreciate the old photos though.

I was hitchhiking with a mate from Gizzy to Wellington and we got dropped off here. We asked the publican where we were? he said the Waikere hotel Putarino. he was as frosty as his beers .20 cent games of pool and after a couple we had to be on our way. but the thing that has always stuck in my mind a sign behind the bar....if you find our staff attractive, don't drive. ;) 20 years ago
