The best hostel I’ve stayed. Came for a week and stayed 3 months at the end and then came back 3 times after I moved away. 10 minutes walk to the town, you can borrow a bike for free, hot hot showers... The chocolate pudding is an awesome treat! It’s a small family vibe hostel where is no problem to find new friends (possibly for life!) or you can read a book in armchair by fireplace... Awesome friendly team working there, specially Fran! Thank you TBB for making Nelson unforgettable place...

Loved this hostel! One of the cosiest, most homely and funky I've stayed at in all my travels. The staff were super friendly, welcoming and helpful. We stayed one night at either end of doing the Heaphy track and they offered to store our other bags which was really kind. Beds were comfy and everything clean and tidy.

Its conveniently located near town and has private rooms. The staff are helpful and friendly and were accommodating. However this place is old and tired. The rooms are dated and the sheets were clean but looked really old. It's fine for 1 night but I couldn't stay anymore, it smelled a bit and there isn't alot of insulation so you hear everyone up and beside you and it was hard to get to sleep. Not to mention the people who kept talking outside at the front till 12am.

Amazing place! Really social and cosy hostel. Chocolate pudding every night is a big plus. The staff is incredibly helpful, definitely recommend!

Unique atmosphere with super friendly staff. Breakfast is for free (and very good for a hostel) and every evening you can get a free chocolate pudding, which tastes amazing and is definitely worth the good feedback. Overall, certainly one of the best hostels I have been to.

Definitely one of the nicer, more pleasant backpackers we stayed at on our trip! The facilities are quite charming and welcoming, and the place was fit out with some great cooking appliances/spaces as well. Super comfy sleep and great service to boot—would highly recommend staying here!

This is a great hostel. The Internet is average speed, the accommodations are clean, the shower and kitchen are clean, and the lounge areas a comfortable. Also, they make a sort of chocolate cake with pudding each night at 8:00 and serve it with ice cream for free! The managers are very helpful and always seem to be in the best mood of their life! We had a great time staying here.

Stayed in a double room with shared bathroom for a night on a motorbike trip. Nice off-street parking. Room was spotless. This is an excellent, organized, clean and welcoming hostel run by people who care and understand the needs of travelers. Top-notch backpackers.

Professional and very friendly welcome upon arrival. Provided with everything we needed to know. The whole hostel was spotless. The only down side was due to the popularity of the place it felt quite cramped in the communal areas, particularly the kitchen and perhaps not quite enough fridge space when at full capacity. In saying this the free extras are second to none! The chocolate pudding is glorious. All in all an excellent stay!

I booked a couple of spots in a 4 bed dorm and when we arrived we were told we had been upgraded to a twin room at no extra cost. Great! The man on the desk seemed friendly. There were quite a few fridges and the kitchen's layout meant it didn't seem cramped. The hostel was only about a 10 minute walk into town. I would go back again.

This is the kind of backpackers you never want to leave. I planned to spend 2 nights originally, but ended up staying 3 weeks. The staff are lovely, the facilities are great, the hammock is comfortable and the bikes are super convenient. The pudding contributes to a welcoming atmosphere that allows you to meet some really fantastic travellers and feel completely at home here.

The hostel is superfriendly. Easy parking and best location for walk in the city. Hostel is colorful and for me homeplace.

What a fantastic place. I've traveled all around New Zealand, and indeed the world, and this is definitely one of the nicest backpackers/hostels I've ever been to. There are some imperfections, but the spirit of the place is absolutely perfect, exactly what I love when I'm traveling. It's recommend it to anybody

Great stay, great location and great staff! We enjoyed 3 nights here in a double room and enjoyed it. The parking was convenient, the staff were friendly and the shared kitchen was well set up. Tasman bay wants your feedback and recommendations of there is anything to make it better. The only drawback is that it's a bit noisy. We were there over st. patrick's and some people woke us up at 3 am... That's to be expected as it's a hostel and has more to do with who is staying at the time. Overall, I'd stay again.

Great place, very clean rooms and facilities. Crowd seems to be decent too though tend to keep to itself, at least when we were visiting. We took a double room which was nice and close to the shower but not too noisy. Delicious chocolatey desert is served free of charge every evening.

Best hostel I have stayed in for a while. Great little touches such as hot water bottles and blankets. Twin room was great with comfy beds. Big kitchen area to prepare food with conplimentary breakfast and tea/coffee. Although a little warm the log burning stove was very cosy.

Good vibe, staff were very nice and couldn't do enough for me. Place was clean and the rooms were tidy. Just a really great place to stay, plus free chocolate pudding and ice cream in the evening always goes down well in my books.

Only 4 stars as I stayed in a room which would be perfect for summer time, not so much in the winter/early spring as it was cold. Rooms are clean and pretty spacious. There is lovely lemon tree in the patio. Amazing chocolate pudding is complimentary every night which brings community together, as they kindly ask not to use wifi for the mindful eating time, which is a pretty neat idea in our digitalised life. You can use the herbs from the little garden and you can find complimentary veggies in the kitchen.

We had a private double bed room, so clean and felt like a hotel. Showers were nice and strong. Place was very clean and plenty of free parking just outside. They serve free cake and ice cream in the evenings too!

Definitely my favourite hostel in New Zealand! Really chilled out vibe, two guitars in the lounge, excellent staff, daily cleaning, free chocolate pudding and ice cream every night, and free breakfast in the off season. I met some really awesome people when I stayed here for three weeks. Abel Tasman is just a day trip away and there is good mountain biking in the area as well

The atmosphere in this hostel is one of the best. Staff is very nice and facilities are good! As stated earlier the walls are a bit thin but it didn’t bother me. This place really let me feel at home.

Totally amazing service. Comfortable rooms, excellent kitchen and great lounge and dining area. Outside garden beautiful and great place to relax after a long day sightseeing around Nelson. Highly recommended.

My favourite hostel in new zealand. Feels like arriving home, just with more people! I stayed here twice in dorms (three nights total). Great staff (middle aged and therefore old enough to have better maturity than other hostels - very approachable and helpful). Hostel beds were spotless, clean sheets, good mattresses, poor pillows though. Nice log fire going in the evenings when its cold in lounge. Free Chocolate cake and ice cream pudding at 8pm every night (so tasty). The kitchen is the cleanest and tidiest hostel kitchen ive seen anywhere from Europe Asia or Oceania. Comfortable chairs in lounge. Relaxed quiet atmosphere - no eejits here when i stayed. Good warm showers. I could have stored luggage here for free while i did my great walk if id had to. Bus stops at the hostel door (inc walk shuttles to abek tasman NP). Free breakfast is much more generous than most and unlimited (ref my photo of the bread and cereal). Cannot recommend enough. Just stay here!

Best hostel you’ll stay at in New Zealand!

lovely hostel located in lovely Nelson! such a cozy main area with heaps of space to play board games, read, or make new friends. after a tiring 3 day journey along Abel Tasman coastal Track - this was the perfect place to wind down, rest, shower, do some washing, and the best part was the chocolate pudding with ice cream at night 😋 cheers !!

Very nice place, clean and with family atmosphere. Bed was comfy, room was clean, same as other common places. The host was very nice and always willing to help!

I went to few hostels in Nelson. This was the best place to stay for me. Very sociable and nice vibe, short walk from town centre so. Ice and quite. The intercity bus actually stops here. I discovered this after walking to town with my bags and ending up back at hostell!😆

Very good hostel. Free bikes to get around Nelson, free wifi and every evening free dessert. Friendly staff and in your room you find an arrival guide with information about the hostel, attractions and activities in Nelson which was very useful. I stayed in a 4 bed dorm.

My girlfriend and I had the private but at the back, looking onto a backyard with lemon tree and gardens and farther to the misty hills of Abel Tasman. The staff is friendly and hands-off, there is free ice cream every day (first come first serve), and there are plenty of friendly people about who are just as excited as you are to be in New Zealand. Loved this place.

This is my favourite backpackers in Nelson. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, the hostel is clean and warm, and the location and prices and good. There is space to park for free.

One of my favo hostels in NZ. Clean, beautiful, really nice and comfy commonroom with a fireplace. Every day chocolatpudding with icecream. And the owners are awesome.

This pretty much has everything you would want. Free wi-fi, good facilities with big kitchen, clean showers, washing line to hang clothes and lots of places to sit and relax, friendly owners and of course the free pudding an ice cream which is fantastic. You will not go wrong staying here.

Clean and ultra fast WiFi will be back Edit: I've stayed here multiple times over 10 months and every time I stay, it's clean, and super comfy.. there's no reason to goto other hostels ;)

Great real hostel. Clean an well taken care off. Supernice staff. Hospitality in its best form. Abit cold in winter. Breakfast is mostly carbs.

Lovely friendly staff. Relaxed atmosphere and have a cute kitty called Tiger that likes pats.

Pro: Reasonably nice. Free bikes was good. Bikes are not very good, but they help. Cons: No closet in rooms.

But taking that out , the hostel is very nice, super clean, both rooms, bathrooms and kitchen ... the patio part is the best ... and the attention of the staff was always very good ... (Original) Me quedé dos noches en este hostel, (diferentes días, por lo que me quedé en diferentes habitaciones), la verdad que la experiencia fue buena salvo porque la segunda noche fue un viernes y estaba todo el mundo de fiesta... (Translated) We only stayed one night, but would return anytime. Check in was quick and easy, the double room was quiet, nice but functional and the bed comfy. The pudding in the evening was delicious and the one hour WiFi free zone led to nice conversations, where we got great tips for our hike in Abel Tasman. The kitchen was clean, as was the bathroom. We did not use the showers, so we can not comment on that. (Original) Wir waren nur eine Nacht da, würden aber jederzeit wiederkommen. Check-in war schnell und einfach, das Doppelzimmer war ruhig, schön aber zweckmäßig eingerichtet und das Bett bequem. Der Pudding abends war lecker und die eine Stunde WiFi freie Zone hat zu netten Unterhaltungen geführt, wo wir nochmal tolle Tipps zu unserer Wanderung im Abel Tasman bekommen haben. Die Küche war sauber, ebenso das Bad. Die Duschen haben wir nicht benutzt, können also nichts dazu sagen.

(Translated) Very cozy. There are board games and guitars in the living room. In the garden is a bbq area and if you want to save money, you can camp in the garden. The dessert every night tastes good and is very popular. When we made the abel tasman walking track for a few days, we were able to keep our excess luggage there for free. (Original) Sehr gemütlich. Es gibt Brettspiele und gitarren im Wohnzimmer. Im garten ist ein bbq bereich und wer geld sparen möchte, kann im Garten zelten. Die Nachspeise die es jeden abend gibt schmeckt gut und ist sehr beliebt. Als wir für ein paar Tage den abel tasman walking track machten, konnten wir unsere überflüssiges Gepäck dort kostenlos aufbewahren.
