Reviews of The Beachcomber Hotel
Interesting start to my check in as someone (who turned out to be the Manager) was parked in one of the disabled parks so I had to park a bit further away! As I discussed with her she shouldn't be parking in them as you never know when someone might be popping in to check in or check out the places to stay. She proceeded to continue to ask me was Reception aware I was disabled as she had me standing there (I have a disability that is related to standing and walking!). I think there are a few lessons to learn here. 1) don't use the disabled parks regardless of how long you are parking there is no excuse, 2) don't put cones out as disabled people can't get in and out of the car to shift them that is what the orange lines are for 3) I pay for my disability permit and therefore they should be never used by abled bodies as this happens all the time 4) maybe instead of asking me 50 million questions you could have offered to help me with my bags! The disabled unit was ok but smelt of mold and dirt. The mirror is also too high for someone in a wheelchair, to except someone to carry a bucket into the bathroom to get water and back into the room to wash dishes also isn't particular! Was cheap and the pool was great plus great location. Hope you might think twice about what a person with a disability has to face everyday!
We stayed at this motel 3 times in the last 4 weeks. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Asked to change rooms after our first night. It was arranged without a hassel. We were able to then have the same room for our next 2 visits.
Highly recommend.
Just had awesome service when I arrived. Was a bit late arriving to find manager had drawn curtains and put heater on for me. Toasty warm, very clean and comfortable. She also book an early taxi for me making my stay completely hassle free
Very accommodating, thank you Alicia for prompt communication and the owners for being very understanding after my flight was cancelled due to weather and I couldn't get down for another 3 days due to seats fully booked. The least I could do is give you a good review.
Unfortunately we booked our room during the “global IT” outage. This created issues when we needed to check in, having to supply two documents to prove my booking was paid for, despite having all relevant receipts from booking agent, made for a slightly uncomfortable experience. I do understand their due diligence. Rooms were okay, had very loud neighbours the first night, could hear them dry reaching and throwing up, was brilliant. We also had an interconnected room, so didn’t help with whoever was next to us. Went to check out and hand over the key to the receptionist who said “thanks, place it in there” that was about it. I did appreciate the room having a microwave, and a great selection of tea and coffee, and some yummy little biscuits. Would I stay again? No.
Just opposite the park.. not too far away from the CBD. Rooms were clean and service was ok. Recommend for a short stay. (Breakfast was just ok)
We stayed here early in March for a night whilst on an impromptu adventure in the top of the South Island.
When we arrived, the girl at the counter was super friendly and lovely. We felt welcomed immediately when we graced the check in room. However, trying to find the room was a nightmare as the doors were hidden away. An escort to our rooms should have been provided. We spent nearly 10 minutes trying to find our room.
The room. Fabulous for lovers of Mahogany wood and for listening to your neighbors conversations. Shower was great once we figured out how to use it but a plumber is needed to replace the shower knob. The toilet seat, whilst promised to be disinfected via a piece of paper, was discolored and had strange marks on it. Please replace your toilet seats immediately Beachcomber!. Finally, the blinds in the kitchen where covered in filthy dust. Who doesn't clean their blinds?! They were screaming for someone to wipe them! I think they are beyond saving at this point.
All in all, great value for money but maybe if a map or an escort to the rooms which were hidden away, that would be a help. Also someone who has the ability to disinfect and de-dust blinds would be super helpful.
I had a lovely sunny clean room that was more like an apartment. It had a spa bath and a fabulous panoramic view over the park and garden. I really enjoyed my stay and I would recommend it to anyone. The staff were friendly and helpful 💯
Love this place, they squeezed me in last minute, over looking the Marina. Fantastic location in Picton & Super Friendly ✨
Clean rooms & linen, crockery, washing up liquid & tea towel! Great welcome folder & welcome in.person & email communication. Yes it's dated but that is what you fond here in NZ. Warm welcome with milk for a cuppa! Really welcoming warm place would recommend it.
The Beachcomber is close to the airport, opposite the Tahunanui beach and close to the city centre. Also close to Sands Seafood, Centre of NZ, Pics Peanut and the Classic Car museum, to name but a few. Pictures attached. We were welcomed by a friendly lady, who gave us some milk and also showed us to our room. The room was spacious and clean. The shower pressure was amazing! They offered us a complete clean of our room, on our 2nd day, which was unexpected, as we were just going to clean it ourselves, every day. But thát was very welcome. We also asked and received milk, almost every day. So, all in all a great stay. Thank you, Beachcomber Team.
Great stay, very friendly and accommodating staff. Will be back - thank you!
Found the dishwasher bowl quirky but works great. Staff very friendly. Please remind the cleaners to vacuum behind doors. Otherwise, lovely stay.
Only thing we were disappointed in was that there was no sink.. Just a container to wash cups etc other than that service was great as we had trouble with our fridge and they fixed it right away... Nice place and the pool was great.
Probably one of the best hotels we had on this trip. Positioned just a hop, skip & a jump from the beach with a roomy interior & huge bathroom. Bathroom had an enclosed shower area, which we thought was a brilliant idea. Also electric blankets were much appreciated
Lovely area,great room ,fully equipped
Great location, nice clean and tidy rooms. Very handy to the city, restaurants and shopping! Easy access to and from. Also near the Airport which was handy. Staff were nice and friendly - won't hesitate to recommend them to friends and family and will stay again!
Good value for money for a family holiday. Well equipped family room that even had a spa bath. Kids loved this and the swimming pool. Excellent location close to beautiful Tahuna Beach. Lots of dining and entertainment options. We'll definitely stay again.
I stayed here for a single night after completing the Abel Tasman great walk. Booking only the day off. Staff were very quick to help and sort me a room. I stayed in the “Spa Unit”. It had lush thick blackout curtains, the bed was very comfortable. There was a fan and a heater in the room, as well as generous tea/coffee facilities. A fridge, a microwave, a hairdryer. For a motel, and the price of the room, I was thoroughly impressed and overall very satisfied. Also a very convenient location, able to walk to dinner, beach, or late night snacks within minutes. Will be returning if I’m ever in the area!
Wonderful location, with all food corners nearby, next to the beach, lot of parking space.
But the room I stayed in was smelly, room sizes
are decent and clean.
We have stayed here a few times , the staff are always very friendly & accommodating. Rooms are a little dated, but very clean , had everything we needed for our stay . It has a swimming pool . There is a lovely cafe & restaurant close by.The walkways , bike trails & beach are just across the park , it is such a lovely area & so close to everything .We had an upstairs room which looked over the park & out to the beach, wonderful views . Would Highly Recommend & will definitively be back
Great stay. Good conference facilities. The caterer is thee best caterer I've ever had. Food was mint. Pool closed over winter. Handy to town and good spot for walking
Had a lot of questions on the phone when we tried to book but when the lady at reception saw us she apologized and said it was because lots of dodgy people try book which we totally understood. She made me feel taken care of and less stressed when I arrived. There was lots of parking. Not very busy. Rooms have really good heating but unfortunately there is some road/pub noise which is expected. The spa tub wasn't the best but it was cleanish and worked. They also come into service your room even if you don't need it just a warning if you want to sleep in. Probably won't stay again but the lady at reception I'll always remember fondly.
The accommodation was clean. The bed ok and quality linen . The downside was that I was in a room with a connecting door. The sound was transmitted thru that. It was startling to hear a door close when I was in the room alone. Also either the shower was broken or I couldn't work out how to get it to behave. The water pressure was fine and not too hot I had to stay a further night in Nelson but I found another hotel.
Room was way over priced. $185 for one night. Need to rethink their prices. Very outdated with builtin 1980s or 1990s furniture. Shower curtain was too small and bathroom got wet through. Basin was old and cupboard above impractical as you can't lean over it.
Good clean units, only a bit dark. The pool is great. But of real concern is the lack of security and privacy with the general public using the car park as thoroughfare from one street to the other, peering into everything and commenting loudly. Even had groups of motorcyclists roaring through, for heavens sake. They urgently need security gates at both ends.
Wonderful welcoming lady got us sorted and gave us a choice of units when we arrived unannounced after a letdown at the motel we had booked in central Nelson. Very clean unit with heaps of room. Kind and understanding cleaning staff after I took ill during the night. We would definitely recommend this motel to one and all.
Loved it comfortably bed but needed a warmer duvet.
The room I stayed in was pretty nice alot of space nice view of the street but it did get a little noisey when I was sleeping with all the cars going to and from the petrol station across the road the spa bath was nice there was a alot of carparks for your vehicle which is always good and the kids had a blast in the pool. The only downfall for me while staying here was the noise and a bug that was crawling on my head while I was drifting off to sleep after my shower on my last night stay. Not sure where it came from or what it was but it crept me the hell out lol
Stayed for two nights, both nights I was kept awake by other guests, the walls seem to be paper thin…. I can’t really fault the room (except for the sound proofing) and the staff were very friendly. Unfortunately some of their less considerate guests ruined my experience.
A beautiful place to stay. Rooms are gorgeous, there is a pool and it is walking distance to the beach. Staff are lovely. Only draw back, it is 5 kms to town and without a car, it is a distance to walk (FYI I came by bus). Thoroughly recommend The Beachcomer
A very nice place but lacking in any life or personality. Favourite bit about this was the cleaning staff lady who i could chat with for years, and climbing out the window from the bedroom to the bathroom to open the bathroom door as we got locked out of it somehow.
The service at the check in desk was fantastic and made us feel so welcome. The room was spacious and modern, with everything you could need for a few nights stay.
The room was cleaned to an excellent standard, which is vary rare!
Overall 10/10 stay
I don't know why but going by the photos i expected something different, more relaxed, more beachy....it was clean and everything it should be but incredibly noisy outside (traffic). It is closer to kfc and macdonalds than the beach. The beach reserve is absolutely worth it though. Mini zoo and lots of relaxing space. We found a list of do's and dont's in the room that was abit much. It spoiled our mood to the point were we felt less comfortable. Honestly nothing wrong with the quality of accommodation or service. Spa bath was great and good quality pillows.
Very clean but carpet could use an upgrade or good clean. Shower pressure was terrible and water was too hot. But a very clean room and a comfortable nights sleep.
This was the best stay I have had in years. The location is close to all the top beaches and parks in Nelson very children friendly. It is also close to a number of bars and eating establishments. The staff are very helpful and friendly the rooms are clean and of a good size. I will not stay any were else in Nelson. Thank You Beachcomer for a Great Stay. You will see me again.
Was easy to find and very grateful for the add on extra night before. Plus the change of room easier made.
I love the room they gave us, it has enough space to move around. The location is very accessible to the beach and restaurants around.
The room was very clean and in a good location with nice pubs and food around 👌
The management were exceptional when we arrived to find there was a reservation challenge. They could not have done more to make us feel comfortable, make alternative arrangements and provide the highest level of service in a situation that could otherwise have proved relatively challenging.
My second time staying here as great location, great price and clean. Both times I have stayed it has been on the pub side of the motel and on a weekend. Noise has not been an issue bar the odd hoon, considering you are by the main road. Beach, petrol station, food is across the road. All within walking distance and a 10 minute drive into town.
My only concern is with the internet connection. Both times I've stayed it has been down the Muritai Rd end of the hotel and connection is poor. You'd have to be closer to the office to get a good connection.
Great location with handy facilities near by Mobil garage, Mac Donald's KFC. just a few constructive points our conch was a bit smelly I went to check out the pool area and got told by a male staff member (you need to just move on!) I felt offended as i had been a paying guest.there are other ways of communicating then being abruptly spoken to like that could of been chris. we stayed in our unit Christmas day due to the bad weather this year our fry pan went black from doing some cooking on it needs up dating. wifi reception was intermittent noise from pub nextdoor which i know cant be helped. spa bath was good quiet hot most other staff were friendly.
Good base to explore Nelson from. There is a pool on-site, and it is close to Tahunanui Beach. Also a short drive to Nelson centre. The rooms were basic but had everything we needed. Staff were also very friendly and accomodating with our needs and requests.
Service was excellent. The room was very tidy and fresh. Would recommend it to my friends and family
Great place to stay, very handy location and close to beach, restaurants, pubs etc. Only complaint Is that the rooms need full length mirrors instead of just the small one above the basin in the bathroom! Other than that it had everything we needed
Thrilled with the spacious, clean room and comfortable bed.
Heartily recommend.
Real nice room, and friendly helpful staff! One thing, there's a coffee plunger in the room, but there's no plunger coffee! Haha you'll have to bring ur own. There is a plunger style coffee tea bag thing which ain't bad but it doent go every far :/
I have stayed at a few motels in Nelson area this is a great area if you have children as the beach is a 2 minutes walk. With a park. There are also bars in the area. About a 10 minute drive into Nelson township if that. Room in the motel I cant fault and that's says a lot. And its reasonable price
Clean room, comfortable beds, no sink for dishes, rather noisy from outside planes and traffic. No cooking facilities. Close to lovely beach.
Love it here. Got the deluxe room with a view. Clean and relaxing.
I was pleasantly surprised. Well kept room and very clean. Location is fantastic right across the road from the beach. A pleasant stay and we will be back.
Excellent room, plenty of parking, motorbikes were safe over night, excellent view
Some random dude entered my room with a wrong key. Rooms are badly marked. I entered with my key in other room as well. Breakfest was worst from all New Zealand. Rooms was clean and fairly equiped. No problem there. WiFi was kind of free, but it was not usable anyway. Place is right next to a park and sea.
Nice hotel! Spacious room, very clean, modern and close to everything. I really enjoyed my stay in this place and will definitely come back.
Rooms were tidy and clean. Is surrounded by nice cafes, restaurants and pub in easy walking distance.
I have been staying at the Beachcomber for over 20 years now and it always works for me... central with easy access to Nelson and Richmond and with enough distance to make visiting the relatives manageable
The staff always go the extra mile for you and I always end up returning to this familiar and reliable hotel... good parking, in-house cafe/restaurant and Smugglers bar & restaurant is next door and always well worth a visit
Great location, lots of rooms. Was a warm humid night so not nice with no aircon but we booked very last minute so all good
Was in room 803 where all you could do is listen to the incessant him of a motor somewhere and the rave going on at the backpackers next door. But as for what was provided and the friendliness I far from have a complaint and although the food was over done the chef and owner was very friendly
The medium sized fan was insufficient to cool the room, either a larger fan or the installation of an air-conditioned would be good.
Staff are amazing. Rooms are spot on but you can definitely tell you have a different cleaner. A couple days you couldn't tell if the cleaner had come or not
Absolutely lovely staff, clean rooms with wonderful shower
The receptionist Hannah was lovely on the phone.
Room bigger than I expected, great location.
My partner and I would stay again
The motel is really close to the beach n handy to most things which was great but unfortunately the room was really rather dirty we even had to do some cleaning and wiping down when we arrived which was disappointing, it did look as though it hadn't been cleaned thoroughly in a long time but happy enough apart from that.
Fantastic, friendly staff, tidy motel and great location. We loved our one week stay at the Beachcomber in January 2019. Would definitely stay there again on our next trip to Nelson.
We got delux suit. Had a spa and sauna. Clean and tidy with views of rangers and partial ocean views.
Great location and really clean rooms, would definitely visit again.
+ Large rooms with high ceiling
+ Private outside corner
+ Walking distance from the beach and dining options
+ Plenty of cushions
- Not the most modern bathroom
- No ventilation or window to open in bathroom
Loved our stay. Clean, cheerful staff and rooms. Will come stay again for sure and highly recommend
Location is great. Staff were friendly, however the room and fixtures were a bit tired.
It was a good stay be that as it was only over night. Their facilities were good and the room was well presented and serviced
Great stay... Personal and friendly. Comfy room in a handy location close to the beach, bars and restaurants...value for money as well 😊
Very handy to most things. The carpet in our studio could have done with a bit of a clean
Close range to the beach, shops, petrol station. Easy access in and out of hotel.
Reasonably priced close to the beach walking distance to pubs cafes and the sports grounds. The staff are awesome I will return for sure.
Stay here all the time for work great location and rooms
very friendly staff updated my review 2023
Nice clean rooms. Nice amenities nearby. The only thing missing is a decent fan for the summer heat.
Spent to days here 5-6 September, was comfortable, warm and clean, will stay again, and convenient to a lot of places around it 👍
Only fault I found was the shower didn't have much pressure apart from that comfy room.
This is a beautiful Motel, so clean and everything you need. Within walking distance from McDonald's and KFC
Nice tidy spacious rooms, good TV channel selection, good service nothing to complain about
Value for money! Clean and tidy. Receptionist helpful and friendly. Better than expected for the price!
Excellent location .. but the room had an unpleasant odour ..
Friendly staff, clean room, reasonable rates. They also posted a phone charger I left behind at their cost.
Great location. Rooms are very nice.
Was a great experience only let down by the broken shower head holder in room 709
Got to see the rugby world cup without any issues. Lovely people and great location.
My room was amazing the spa bath was amazing and I was very relaxed. Thank you so much 👌👏
