You need to change your idea about what a Motel is as this place is very clean, classy and very very comfortable. The staff are super friendly, humble yet focused on you having the best stay. The continental breakfast was cute and meets a classy sustainability in how it's presented and suits the style of this place. Absolutely great stay!

Mordern, neat and tidy room. Very central location. The room itself was very elegant, with the best touch of modern decors and good furniture. Very welcoming and friendly staff too. Definitely will recommend staying here.

Awesome stay, was only for one night but as soon as we sat on the bed all our plans went out the window..... we could not move! Great hosts, everything you could ask for, Very highly recommended, spotless and modern. Excellent place to have a GREAT night sleep and recover from your journey.Dont sit on the bed if you have plans!

This place was definitely your up market end of Motels, a luxury accommodation which was 10/10. Beautiful room we had: 104 and it was to perfection! Brand spanking new aka Modern, tidey, minimal but had everything you needed. The Decor and room interior was luxurious. Not to mention the feather bedding mattress it just felt like you were sleeping on clouds tbh! And that shower we had ohhhhh don't get me started I was in heaven! It was incredible and in size just WOW, could fit us both. The room also had a huge TV which had Netflix or log into TV on Demand (if you have your own account to log into as I do) which was a bonus. This room had it all. We booked this place after doing the Abel Tasman so 3days out there walking and to arrive to this was just the perfect way to end the last 2days. Sails is super close and walking distance to the supermarket and town center, has parking and the owners were fantastic! I would 100% book here again.

Amazing! Beautifully appointed rooms, immaculately kept! Manager waited up for our late, last minute booking, was super friendly and helpful. Modern Qaulity furnishings, comfy bed, great linen, centrally located and small conveniences like wireless fast charger by the bed. Best and yet cheapest of our stays in the South Island to date.

Excellent accommodation very clean, modern, hosts friendly, professional, handy to all facilities. Nice easy walk to shops, restaurants, museum, Queens gardens.

We had an excellent 2day stay. The suite was extremely clean and comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious. Very friendly and helpful hosts. Would definitely only stay at the Sails on next trip to Nelson.

Highly recommended as the first choice of where to stay in Nelson. Amazing owners that are lovely and accommodating for business travellers - which is highly valued, especially when plans change that are out of your control - we'll always be back.

Very modern and immaculately clean, we had a lovely one night stay in April. Our room (215) looked over the carpark but had a beautiful view of mountains. Very quiet room and comfortable bed. The hotel is a quick stroll to town and easy from Highway 6. Service on check in and out was lovely.

Absolutely brilliant stay. Accommodation is fabulous. While we were staying at Sails, we extended our stay twice. Great attitude from facility managers (Mark and Cecelia) and cleaning staff - nothing is a problem. What sets Sails apart is: 1. Great choice and high quality of loose leaf tea ( 3 types) 2. Plunger coffee comes from locally roasted supllier which is of the highest quality and flavour. 3. Rooms are spacious and luxurious Can't wait to return.

Possibly the best place I have stayed at so far. You get welcomed by very friendly staff and the place is so neat and tidy. The units are so beautiful and just looks amazing. Everytime I travel to Nelson I will stay over at Sails. Thank you for everything.

The sails was a highlight of our accommodation in the South Island. Everything about this place is excellent we highly recommend it. A massive thanks to the staff who work hard to keep the sails immaculate in every way.

The owners were most accommodating in late check-in and late check-out. The room was clean and spacious. In short, excellent value for money . Being close to the airport is another plus. I definitely recommend this property to others visiting Nelson and Look forward to staying there again. 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎

Currently staying at the sails for 4 nights and loving the Sails Nelson. We’ve got a corner apartment overlooking the rugby fields across the road. The suite is large with lots of room for my 2 year old to play. Very clean and beautiful furnished. Would recommend staying here and will certainly stay again.

Great place to stay !! Immaculate well presented units, cleaned daily. Awesome friendly staff, nothing was a problem. Close to central Nelson. We will definitely stay there again 😊

Wow, if I could give 10 stars, I would. This modern motel offers everything to the traveller... a bed to die for, ample in-room space, every alliance imaginable, little luxury extras, beer and wine in the fridge, several TV and movie providers (e.g. Netflix, Lightbox, Disney). There is no on-site restaurant, but I would highly recommend this accommodation to any traveller.

Great accommodation. Well designed apartment, nice furniture and good amenities. In a great position, a short walk takes you into a thriving area full of cafe and restaurant culture plus a good shopping area. The staff a very helpful and take time to answer any questions.

This place is fantastic. Close to town, spacious rooms, friendly staff, super clean and very well equipped, pleasant balconies where you can share a bottle of wine, laundry facilities (you just have to get detergent), and ample parking. What more do you need? We used this as our base to explore the area and were very happy with our selection. The owners pointed us to a great trip idea, which was to grab a ferry from Kaiteriteri and explore the beaches on the Tasman national park. It was awesome, we had one beach all to ourselves. Thanks for the suggestion guys!

The ultimate in luxury for motels in Nelson. Immaculate room, exceptionally cleaned with everything and more for the discerning traveler. I will be back and highly recommend The Sails.

The Sails Motel is awesome, every bit of 5 Stars. The owners Mark and Celia are very helpful and friendly. The room was spotless and the amenities in the room perfect. My wife and I had had a wonderful time in Nelson and The Sails Motel difinitely made the stay an experience, we highly recommend.

Mark is friendly, attentive and welcoming. He also gave us a great recommendation for dinner. The rooms are beautiful and the bed was very comfortable. A hotel that doesn’t leave you wishing for home.

Location is very quiet, a short walk into town and approx. I had an executive suite which is very well furnished to a very high standard. Central to everything and very helpful staff. Re value for money. Would thoroughly recommend The Sails for anyone staying in the Nelson area.

The rooms/bathroom had a modern decor and were spotlessly clean. Hosts were very accommodating and helpful when asked advice of restaurants and places to visit. Max and Robyn are great hosts. Mark and Cecilia doing all the right things to make our stay perfect will stay again sometime in the future.

We stayed two nights here before our trekking at Abel Tasman National Park. Our room has a bedroom, a bathroom with a bath tub and a living room with open kitchen. There was a shared laundry machine and dryer downstairs next to the reception which was inconvenient. The decoration was modern. There were 2 big screen TVs. Our room was on th second floor so we had two outdoor small terraces to see the stadium view. Our daughter slept in a living room with her own extra bed. Our bed was too soft. We had two uncomfortable sleeps because off the bed. What a shame! Ps. Mr.Mark at the reception desk was very nice. He recommended us a nice restaurant.

The suite we stayed in was large, modern, clean, well equipped and very comfortable. Friendly and helpful staff. Reasonably convenient for centre, but on a busy road, and traffic noise was an issue for us.

One of the best hotels we stayed on our 7 weeks trip through New Zealand! Lovely welcome... Our room was very clean and loved our stay sooooo much! It is just a 5-10 Minute walk and you are in the CBD of Nelson. WIFI was very good and the rooms are serviced perfectly every day... Thank you for all!

We got the king studio room and it was fantastic. Nice kitchen, huge amounts of counter space/desk space, bed was super plushy and the room came with very nice looking stereo. The owners were as eager to help as they were helpful, and the best part was that they had 2 loaner bikes we were able to use to get around town a bit quicker than on foot (they're free, but I gave some tip money for their use because they were well worth it to us, if they help you out, consider doing the same to help for the bike upkeep and/or adding new bikes). Also, the internet connection in the room worked well. Really couldn't have asked for more.

We stayed here as a family in Jan 2013 and loved it so much that when I had to choose a place to stay for my 5 day business trip The Sails was top of the list. No second time around disappointment here. I stayed in a studio and although a cheaper room than what we stayed in last time, the standard was to the high same quality. The hosts Max & Robyn could not do enough for you from the moment you walked in the door, they even asked after my family which is wonderful to think as we had not been back for 6 months. The rooms are so clean large and luxurious. I cannot wait for our next family holiday to Nelson as it's the ONLY place I will stay as it's like coming home. Thank you Max and Robyn, we look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Beautiful room with everything you need when you are on the trip. The location was an easy walk into town and close to the shoreline. Nelson is a gorgeous place to explore and a great base for day trips, brilliant accommodation at the sails was the icing in the cake.

Nice motel with a well equipped kitchen. Room was comfortable and clean. Good service, the manager kindly offered late checkout. Good location- 8 mins walk to the city center. It doesn't have an onsite café though. They provide a good selection of tea including loose leaf green tea and fruit tea. Would stay there again.

The Sails motel is well located, just 10 min walk from the town centre. We were checked in by a lovely gentle*** who was looking after the property while the owners were away. On main road into town but units double glazed and little to no road noise at all.

Spotless! Comfortable rooms, great facilities. Proper tea and coffee (Inc ground coffee, instant, tea bags AND tea leaves), fresh milk, even a decent minibar. Air conditioning, big windows, comfortable bed, huge TV, Sky, parking. Loads of power points, pillows and space. Proper wifi too - 6 devices, 100GB!

The Executive studio that we stayed in was a little bit of luxury. Location is ideal for those who prefer a short walk to town, or to the ocean. Service was personal and fantasticplenty of tips on where to go and what to do. The laundry facilities were very nice and easy to use.

Beautiful location, clean and modern motel with a lovely host/manager. However the bed was a nightmare, worst night sleep ever and had to get my neck adjusted next morning. Would've given a 4 but the pros outweighed the cons (bed)

I recently stayed at The Sails Nelson with my 2 grandchildren, (10yr & 18yr) we had such a awesome time. Our Hosts Robyn & Max were able to advise me on the best places to visit, where would be suitable to dine. we did dine in on one occasion, with our room being so well equipped with utensils & pots and pans we were able to have a relaxed full cooked meal as if at home. The highlight of the childrens stay was being able to soak in the huge spa bath..something they don't have at home.. Well done guys!!! I look forward to returning soon Joss, Nikita & Jordan

Stayed for 4 nights in Jan 2015. Max and Robyn were excellent hosts who could not do enough for us. The room was very modern with all the facilities one could want and the bed was extremely comfortable.

Still expect to have electric blankets on the bed, also need some sort of light in the bathroom in a way that you don't have to put the card in scanner as it makes a loud noise which can wake others in the apartment up plus it turns on other lights.
