a.We stayed at Bay of Islands Lodge for two nights and it could not have been more perfect. The location is amazing. A quick walk to the beach and all the amazing restaurants in Paihia. It was very convenient for us to walk to all the places. The room was clean and had everything we needed. The common kitchen area was spotlessly clean and extremely well equipped. Andy was an amazing host, welcoming and very helpful. We can't wait to revisit.

Staying at the Bay of Islands Lodge was the highlight of our trip. Andy and Lynn welcomed us like family.
The room was beautiful, clean and had everything we needed with the comfiest bed we have ever slept in.
The kitchen was well equiped and the location was quiet on an evening whilst being close to everything in town.
The lodge is a stone throw from the beach, all local activities and a great bar with live music is just a few doors down.
We can’t wait to return to this place, it’s a must if you are in Paihia!
G.Great value private rooms! This lodge fulfilled our every need. Our room was clean and spacious, with comfy comfy beds and a decent hot shower in the ensuite. There’s a full equipped kitchen that even has the little stuff like utensils and chopping boards. The hosts are locals who really know the area and got us some good discounts around town, which is only a five minute walk away (two minutes to the beach). Would definitely recommend to all fellow travellers
B.Nice stay. Well kept and comfortable with nice amenities like a shared kitchen , a cozy common room and lots of picnic tables to enjoy meals with friends and family.I found Andy to be a warm and friendly host. The place is well located and is walking distance to the wharf and the beach which is a great plus as well.

p.Good location short distance to everything. Has community kitchen. Room was clean, water pressure was excellent. Power Outlet is not near bed not good place for summer as so hot. And it's too noisy as most rooms are on top.

D.Andy and his team run a tight ship here, everything is catered for in the rooms with fresh linen, clean beds & bathrooms and towels for hire. Only negative for the bedrooms is that there are no lockers available in the rooms, but generally pretty safe there. Kitchen has good facilities however not many stove tops for cooking so can become busy at dinner time, especially if there is a tour bus staying there. Outdoor area great with plenty of room
L.Andy was super nice and helpful. The room and bathroom were very clean. There were comfortable seating areas outside and in a lounge. The hostel is very close to bars, restaurants, and the beach as well. Wifi is a bit spotty, but other than that, everything was absolutely wonderful.

B.Although the managers were really friendly and it was not too loud, I still found some negatives here. Yes the price was really fair, but the beds were just uncomfortable and loud when you moved. The rooms were not as clean as I expected with cobwebs over the bed and hair in the bathroom. Also the kitchen was quite small for so many people although this might differ for you with a different amount of guest. In the activities room there were a lot of books, which was nice, but the lack of games or even a tv was kind of disappointing. Overall I must say great for backpacker or overnight guests but not enough for more.
B.I loved my visit to Paihia and felt so relaxed and welcome at Andy's YHA. He and his team are so kind and helpful. The beds are not bunk beds which I loved. Also the rooms have a near rustic feel. The kitchen and lounge are small and cosy but there is a large sheltered outdoor eating area. It is really close to the beach and I will definitely recommend and stay again in the future!!
M.I am a teacher who was travelling around New Zealand with students. We stayed at many hostels but felt most welcomed at this YHA. Even though we arrived late in the evening we were warmly greeted. Also, the next morning during breakfast we were asked if there was anything we needed and if we were enjoying our time in New Zealand. This kindness was displayed each day of our stay which made it feel like our home away from home. Also, the rooms and kitchen were clean and had all of the supplies we needed. I highly recommend this hostel especially if you are looking for somewhere you will feel welcomed.
K.When I arrived in Paihia, it struck me as a beautiful, small and peaceful place to spend a few nights and enjoy nature.
What I originally planned to be three nights at the YHA, turned out to be just over three weeks.
The area is great: Lots of hikes, pretty beaches and a peaceful environment.
What really made me stay that long though were the people at the YHA.
I travelled on my own, so I haven't had anyone to share my experiences with here in Paihia.
At the YHA I was greeted by two friendly women at the reception that immediately made me feel welcome.
They gave me tips on what to do, where to go and how to spend my time here - and their recommendations were always spot on.
The owner - Andy - is a super friendly guy who always has a big smile on his face to lighten your mood.
At the YHA in Paihia, the staff goes the extra-mile though. They took me out to remote beaches, invited me to their dinners and took great interest in me and my life.
All in all: They made me feel welcome, accepted and part of their community. I'm grateful to have spend my time there and meet all these great people that became my friends.

m.Good place with good people. Staff very friendly, Andy the owner super helpful. The whole vibe of the place is chilled and filled with backpacker conversations. It’s close to great breakfast spot. There’s also cool bar next door to hang out. Highly recommend!

S.A relatively old hostel but still very decent. The staff are extremely friendly. Toilets are clean but not spectacular. The reading/tv room is cozy and the kitchen is adequately equipped. Overall, nothing to shout about but no major complaints either.
D.The hostel room was quite small and inside room no storage. Good thing is each room got it's own bathroom with toilet. The whole hostel room setup is quite different as compared to other places as on one side it's whole glass with slider as door. It got storage at reception. Parking is available. Not a very big hostel but yes it's located at walking distance from beach.
J.Very nice hostel with decent kitchen (room for 4 people to cook at once albeit cramped). Dorm and bathroom were clean and reasonably sized. Bunk bed stacked too close together so kept hitting head but not too short. Location okay, very close to the beach and convenience store (bit pricey but an okau countdown is on 10 minutes walk)
L.Nice and cozy place. Always pretty quite. The kitchen was nice and so we're the bathrooms. Staff was super nice and relaxed. The place to stay if you want to check out Paihia and relax with not too much action in your hostel.
M.We could find a very beautiful place and met very nice and friendly people with wich can share food and conversations.
We think the best idea to enjoy Paihia and bay of Islands Is to ask what to do and where to go to Andy, the owner. He Is very kind and can be very helpful for your vacation!

I don't think the concrete block structure was expected to be used as much in the colder months as it is today. A little more thought about heater placement on the rooms would be good.
D.Close to beach. Rooms, linen, and facilities quite clean. Andy knowledgeable and helpful regarding things to do, places worth seeing and places to see tramping. My 90 Mile Beach and Cape Reinga tour worked out nicely from here.
Kitchen can get a bit crowded in evening. WiFi is so-so, but every good tourist who moves half a gig a day knows where the library is.
L.Really cute Hostel. Perfect located. Really near to the beach and to other hostels so you'll meet a lot of other travelers. The shops are in walking distance.

J.Pretty quiet and clean, rooms and furniture rather old but functional. WiFi is ok but you barely have reception in the rooms. Bathrooms and kitchen are small but clean. Staff is friendly.
I.The staffs are very helpful. The room is not big with awkward furniture such as a big desk inside. The bathroom is in the room which is better compared to comunal bathroom.

Hübsches kleines Hostel mit netten Leuten und Personal, kurzem Weg zum Strand und ins Zentrum + gratis wlan. Die Schlafräume sind sauber, leider hatte ich bei dem mittig gelegenen Hochbett etwas Angst rauszufallen :D Die Küche ist gut ausgestattet ,jedoch fand ich sie nicht sehr sauber, daher der eine Punkt Abzug. Insgesamt günstig und für junge Leute sehr geeignet.
