P.This was the unique "company" who could offer us the tongariro hikking. They were so nice and helpful, renting us everything we need. They even wait us, as we were a little bit late. If you wanna do the hikking, I'd go with them, no doubts at all! The lady at the front was super nice!

The motel itself was warm. comfy beds and an extremely well fitted out kitchen.
We are probably not the usual guest--being 4 elderly ladies but hopefully will head there again in Feb to enjoy another stay. Highly recommended.
C.Very clean bedroom and bathroom with a large shared kitchen facility with huge glass fridges and plenty of cooking utensils all at a fantastic price. The service was amazing, always someone on the desk during business hours to look after you quickly.

K.Generally ok, but I didn't sleep well on the thin matresses. It's 2020 and I would expect more comfort these days. The walls are also thin and my bunk shook when the people in the room next door moved around in their bunk. Water pressure was bad in the upstairs bathroom (which creaky floor) and I overheard people complaining of hot water supply weak in main bathroom. Otherwise, the kitchen is great, location is great and rooms spacious enough with shelves and hooks.
S.Stayed one night in winter, the room was pretty cold and the pillows and mattress was thin, didn't get a good sleep. I've been to many yha's but this is the first time we had to pay for the WiFi.
Apart from those things it's a nice and clean hostel with a very lovely staff.
M.Good rooms, facilities, staff and services. They've got a climbing wall as well. The only downside for me which actually affected me the most this time around was the shower in my room. It was terrible in terms of the force. After a 19km hike, you'd really love a shower with water hitting your back like bullets. maybe it was just in my room.
But yeah, what really matters is would I book this place again next time?
Absolutely.
J.Nice place for the price, room was clean, warm, dry, had plenty of space, good location if you're going to visit Tongariro. Staff was nice and very helpful, gave good suggestions and answered any questions I had.
Reasons why I'm not giving this place a five, they could of used more toilets. For the size of this place, they could use more facilities for people to relieve themselves and to clean themselves.
Other than that, I would stay at this place again and recommend it to other travelers.
J.We booked both a private room and a couple beds in a dorm room. The private room had its own bathroom while the dorm room used the communal showers and toilets. The price was really reasonable especially considering it included bed linen and towels. The room had a wall heater and a separate electric heater we didn't need. The kitchen was well appointed and there was a TV lounge we didn't use. The YHA was well taken care of and was comfortable - a good place to stay.
M.A good hostel with a helpful and nice staff. Kitchen is big and laundry works well. (You can buy laundry powder for 1NZD from the reception.) You can book shuttle and some gear (hiking boots!!) for the Tongariro alpine crossing from here. Our only concern was that the front door wasn't locked even at night and during the day anyone could reach those keys when the reception is not there. We also were not super happy when the cleaner left both of our room doors open when she cleaned while no one was there...
M.Very nice hostel with friendly staff. Everything is really clean and the rock climbing wall is pretty cool. Only complaint is it is listed as free WiFi on hostelworld but this is not the case, you have to pay for the wifi and it isn't super cheap.
A.Stayed at during summer season. Clean rooms and well built kitchen, plus a smaller overflow kitchen. An exceedingly well developed climbing wall available for a good price. Has track transport and is close to drop off points of competitors if necessary. Location provides a good view of both volcanoes on a nice day and is close to local amenities. Staff was helpful and patient with requests. Met and in some cases exceeded my expectations for a backpackers lodge for its price point.
C.That staff were super friendly and helpful, and the climbing wall was fabulous.! Lovely view to wake up to as well!
N.Everything is perfect! The room is cosy and beautiful, the kitchen provides a nostalgic environment, the staffs are very helpful and friendly and the view is picturesque as this place is close to the mountain. You can have a majestic snowy morning and warm friendly afternoon on the same day! If you need someplace to escape from your hectic life, this is definitely the place to be.
D.YHA offers facilities that cater for my needs. A kitchen, dry room (for snow equipment), heating and a good location. Love coming here on weekends during the ski season. Recommend. Linen is provided, towels can be rented very cheap. Staff is very friendly and welcoming.
C.The location is very convenient for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, and the shuttle picks you up right at the hostel. There is a Four Square about a five minute walk, and a bar/restaurant right next door. The people working there are very friendly and helpful. You have to pay for the wifi, but it is so slow that I was better off using my phone as a hotspot. The kitchen has three stoves and sinks and two big fridges. Overall, it was a really good place to stay.
G.A very friendly and welcoming backpackers, good tidy bathroom and large kitchen open all hours, dorms well set up with enough space for bags. The climbing wall is a great addition in case the weather is bad. Staff helpful and knowledgeable. The TV lounge is small and cold but there's plenty of space in the kitchen to hang out and read etc.
My only real complaint was that the windows didn't open in my dorm and it got very damp with everyone's towels hanging up to dry. It's a bit cold inside in the morning so make sure you have warm inside clothes and shoes.
p.Great views of the mountains of tongariro and a short walk to a good spot on the road to photograph them. Otherwise facilities unremarkable, no lockers, beds below average, expensive for what it was in my opinion. Cold when i stayed there. Lounge area huge. Kitchen and fridge very small.
E.Awesome place with some great people. A lot of staff from the mountain stay here, they're all friendly and welcoming, a great vibe!

My daughter had tried another climbing place and did not enjoy it. After seeing her enjoy this one I asked her what the difference was... It was simply that she knew we wouldn't let her fall.
There is not clip and go. You belay eachother. So if you want to climb make sure you have someone who can hold your weight.. but don't worry you're anchored to the floor, so you won't get pulled too far in the air and they make sure you know what you're doing by instructing and watching your technique.
א.No heater. They have radiators but it didn't produce any heat. Clean and good location for those who interested to go to the pub, which was awsome!I don't think there is something better around for that price. View from the rooms is amazing on a good day. They give you a lot of info about everything around.
If they'll fix the heater it will be perfect.
N.last minute booked this place because of the poor weather and was unable to hike Tongariro. it was surprisingly good for 2 nights. we stayed in a 4 people room which was not bad for the price we paid. around $60 for 2 nights. 1 double bed and 2 single beds which u can combine. toilet was abit disgusting though. if you’re a clean freak, like me, the toilet willl gross you out. the water for the shower does not go down, the toilet bowl and sink is too close to each other. go downstairs to use the common toilet, it’s much better :) u can also rent mountain hiking stuffs at the counter. very convenient. i think you can find jobs at this hostel as well, good for the working holiday peeps! oh and one great thing is.. schnapps bar is just beside this hostel. super convenient for after hike dinner/drinks! overall i would recommend this hostel if you’re doing the tongariro hike. value for money.
G.Decent kitchen and shower facilities, climbing wall is also there if that takes your fancy (additional cost). Offer shuttles to and from the crossing at the going rate. Beds were a bit run down and no lockers. Short walk to a petrol station with a convenience store, also a bar next door. Great views of the volcanoes
S.Location was perfect as we only stayed there to do the 8 hour hike the next morning. Wi-Fi not working at all when we arrived until we checked out. Bar across the road was okay for food and drinks, however most of the staff were very rude! Therefore I wouldn't go back. The staff at yha were friendly and accommodating. Rooms and hostel facitilies were okay but nothing special. Extremely dated. The only highlight of our stay was the on sight indoor wall climb. Would only recommend stay if on budget and wish to be close to the national park for the hike.
B.A fantastically well organised hostel. Our room was more than adequate for our needs and it was clean. The people were very helpful and patient too. Great way to meet like minded travelers and hikers and share a yarn
D.Not a bad place but the dorm smelt like a sewer. There was no control or care about the stuff put in the room so old shoes and equipment stank to high hell.

Friendly staff! I couldn’t use my phone, I sent an email in the morning to book one night that same day, they replied in 20min and booked me in, very appreciated.
That was my first time in a « mountain hostel », YHA is cosy, a warm communal room (kitchen + tables), with everything you need to cook. Wood everywhere, heavy curtains...
Shared and clean bathroom, climbing wall.
Plus, you are in a small village, you can walk from the hostel to a shop to hire boots/waterproof clothes (to hike) and go to a cafe to enjoy a warm hot chocolate after the Crossing!
++The departure of the shuttle is in front of the hostel.
I.Rooms were comfortable and clean, the kitchen was well equipped and large enough to accommodate everyone staying there. They were also nice enough to store some stuff for free while we camped in the park itself. A truly wonderful experience!
L.Excellent kitchen facilities and friendly atmosphere. Beds a bit "worn" but comfortable. Recommended if you are looking for easy accommodations.
S.The climbing wall is lots of fun for both children and adults. Especially if the weather is wet and cold. Friendly and helpful staff.

The rooms have been clean, big and the beds comfortable. Most rooms are ensuite. For 26NZD a nighr for a bed in a 6er dorm I would go here again.

V.Facilities are basic...compared to other YHA (cheaper too! 😀), kitchen and dining area is small but decently provisioned. Wi-Fi packs have to be bought.. no free Wi-Fi as in other YHA facilities. Has enough parking space, rooms are clean with minimum furnishing. Can book shuttles to Tongariro alpine crossing and also rent required gear at the reception.
M.It was pretty good. Really nice rooms and really good bathrooms. Really cool views in a good area and a 1 minute walk to 4 square so it was great. I would recommend having more signs for rooms.

L.Great hostel if you're doing any alpine activities. There are plenty of providers around that do the Tongariro Crossing but if you're unsure ask at reception as the hostel works with some agencies. Has a climbing wall at the hostel if you're into those!
C.Clean beds, rooms, kitchen and wahsrooms! Great climbing wall and mini golf experience. Highly recommended for all backpackers in nz! I forgot my ipod in the dorm room like a fool and Anna drove down to the bus station to hand it to me right in time. A big big thankyou to her!
S.A very nice place that let us sleep in our camper van in the parking lot and use their indoor facilities for $15 per person. Very friendly staff, big kitchen and tidy bathroom.
T.Stayed here for one night in the 10 man room. Beds were fairly comfortable. Facilities was ok and decently cleaned.
K.It's a warm bed after a long day of skiing, can't go wrong. Staff are friendly, close to the pub, kitchen is well stocked, Fridges/freezers to put food in.
A.For some reason, it's super hard to find any 'I did the Tongariro Crossing' merchandise but this place had tons of it, including some amazingly priced t shirts at $25, a lot less than I was expecting.
Post cards were also only $1, which is crazy!
Would highly recommend coming here if you wanted some memorabilia for the Tongariro crossing.

m.(Translated) Because it was a stay at the end of the ski season, there were not so many people, and there were not many seasonal workers at YHA in NZ, so it was comfortable and quiet. The shower room and kitchen were also kept clean.
The kitchen was fully equipped with a large refrigerator, and there were not enough kitchen utensils or stoves.
Wifi was charged.
There are several bars, restaurants and cafes around, and only one small supermarket.
The staff were friendly and taught me the recommended trekking courses around me.

スキーシーズンの終わりかけという時期の滞在だったためかそこまで人も多くなく、また場所柄かNZのYHAでは多い季節労働者の方もおらず、静かに過ごすことができて快適でした。シャワールームやキッチンもきれいに保たれていました。

Eines der eher schlechteren hostels die wir besucht haben. Schon an der Rezeption ist dem Personal die lustlosigkeit anzusehen. Die Zimmer sind veraltet und im Bad ist der Duschvorhang verschimmelt. Zum Schlafen hat es gereicht. Nebenan gibt es in der schnappsbar leckeres Essen und man bekommt einen Eindruck von den einheimischen Leuten.

Die Betreiberin des Hostel ist sehr nett und hilfsbereit. Hatte gute Tips fürs Crossing, hatte auch Schuhe für Leute die es brauchten bereit. Im großen und ganzen passt alles wenn man sich von einem Hostel nicht zu viel erwartet. Wir waren 3 Tage da und es war der Hit. 👍 Es war eine günstige Unterkunft und die paar Neuseeland Dollar für Wi-Fi sind schon ok
