Reviews of Bay of Many Coves Resort
I’m going to have to agree with @BigRed1NZ on this; it’s not what it once was. But I’m not going to ping the Resort on the star rating because it didn’t do much for us. It might suit others. What I can do is share an impression … We dropped in for some food and drinks on our way back from Ships Cove. We tied up to the jetty and were ushered to the cafe where we were told in no uncertain terms that the cafe and jetty was the only area we were allowed to be. Okay, I guess. Was it because we had children with us? It’s certainly not like other resorts in the Sounds - like Lochmara, Punga or Furneaux - where day trippers are treated to the same welcome, amenities and service that the staying guests are. We were (just) day trippers and I suspect Bay of Many Coves is catering for a certain clientele. I don’t think they’re aiming for families pulling up in a fizz boat for a coffee and a muffin. The Resort is probably wonderful for people who stay there (as is evident in the many positive reviews) but being day trippers we felt a little … well, second class. Sadly, I don’t think we’ll be back any time soon.
A wonderful place with incredible staff. The rooms have everything you need with very comfortable beds and views to die for.
The dining is world class and can accommodate your every need.
You need to stay here at least once in your life…..amazing!
A remote treasure in the Marlborough Sounds. The scenery from the Resort really is world-class and the staff are incredibly friendly. A perfect spot to get away for awhile to blob out or to celebrate a special occasion. Fine dining is available at the restaurant with a beautifully laid out interior and incredible scenery. An absolute treasure. Definitely worthy of the five stars.
Wow! What a piece of Paradise in the beautiful Queen Charlotte Sounds. Woken by the sun shining in to the deck, then sitting up in bed to watch dolfin and seals in the bay.
Three restaurants with top class meals, a lovely pool and our favourite - a barrel hot tub under the stars. The perfect way to end a day of relaxation and marvelling.
General Manager, Graeme was there to meet the water taxi and showed us around the resort and to our room. His pride in the place is tangible. Graeme has a keen eye for detail and is always on hand to explain or to go that extra mile for a guest. Loved the chocolate!
We will definitely be back. Thanks, Graeme and all of your wonderful staff for the best ever four days.

What a fabulous spot. Thanks Graeme and team for making our stay so memorable. One night not enough but quality of food, accommodation and great rugby game (first half anyway) just made our anniversary celebration. Robyn & Garry
Five Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 goes to this amazing place!
We had experienced a great and romantic moments during staying at this unique place for ours10 years wedding anniversary!
Stunning place, awesome buildings,
outstanding customer service, delicious cuisine, incredible views at sunsets and sunrises!
We were very impressed by the entire complex and the unprecedented hospitality of the Team and Management of “Bay of Many Coves”.
Big Bold Thank You Kim and everyone else who brought us this amazing experience!
Strongly recommended!
From a boating perspective rather than staying at the resort. My holiday spot is across the bay, and we often bring the launch in for coffee, food or a night on a mooring, or zip across in the RIB. One of my favourite spots in NZ. Occasionally the Bight Cafe isn't running at full capacity but this is understandable when the resort side is busy, or it's an off peak season with limited staff (the nature of Marlborough), but there's always great coffee, friendly staff, and relaxing environment.
The Bay of ***y Coves was an absolutely stunning location in which my wife and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary. The servers in the restaurant are superb. The rooms were beautiful. My husband and I love that fact that you could only arrive by boat or helicopter, very secluded and relaxing.
If I could give 6 stars to this review I most certainly would. This place was like a dream. My wife and I were on our honeymoon (in fact we still are as I write this review), and we had no idea what to expect. Pip is the manager, and she already was helpful a day before our arrival as we had no plan of how to get there from the train, so she personally arranged our water taxi and even ate half of the cost! Arriving guests are received personally by Pip and her wonderful staff who greeted us and helped show us around and to our room. The rooms are private chalets each separately strewn amongst the trees on the hill, overlooking the private portion of the bay that is ONLY for this "hotel". There is literally nothing in that entire enclave of the bay but the hotel itself, so it's like you're in your own private island, absolutely incredible, and beautiful. The staff continued to be warm and incredible. There are only 11 rooms/chalets total, so the personalization to the care is sublime, everyone knew who we were before we introduced ourselves. By the time we got to dinner at their own restaurant, the server and chef had already been informed of my food restrictions, and came to talk to me about it at the table. The food was incredible, first rate both in presentation and taste as well as creativity. Additional things we loved about the place include but are not limited to:
-Wood hot tub by the pool, with towels already folded and ready for you.
-Kayaks on their dock that they will happily take out for you to go for a ride, no extra charge
-Laundry. Every hotel we'd been to would charge about 5 dollars for a pair of socks it's so obscene. When we asked them what their cost for laundry was, they asked us to just separate them into whatever instructions we had (colds versus hots, colors versus whites), and they would happily take care of all of it. Free! They returned them all the same day nicely folded. Wow!
-Wine tasting. Some days they invite all 11 rooms of guests to have a complimentary wine tasting, and it was really lovely. A delicious assortment of wines, a classy pairing with ceviche, and a great way to get to know the managers as well as the other guests.
-Pip (the manager) also happily took my next few days of upcoming reservations on our honeymoon itinerary, made the calls for us and confirmed everything.
-Merlot, their dog, never barks, and is always happy and hoping for a guest to play fetch with.
-Hiking is beautiful. They have a short 20 minute loop you can take to a cute little waterfall, glow worms at night, and plenty of nice NZ bird-life along the way. You can also take a long and steep hike up to the Queen Charlotte Track, right in their backyard.
-The beach that borders them is not one with sand, but rather one with rocks and tons of sea creatures, we had so much fun finding sea cucumbers, crabs and an awesome living starfish.
I've never raved about a review this much, and that's saying something considering my many 5-star reviews. It's hard to believe we'll be able to afford to come back, because it is quite expensive, but you can take it from us that it's worth every penny.
Murray and Elaine made us feel so special from the personal meet and greet on the wharf on our arrival through to our final departure. You are within walking distance to just about anything you could want to do. Room was beautifully set out and we were beyong pleased. Located in a very pleasant neighborhood.
The staff at the BOMC went out of their way before as well as during our stay to make our time there as memorable and relaxed as possible. The food was outstanding and we throughly recommend the degustation that was created just for us on the night. Thanks to Elaine and Murray for a lovely stay.
Lovely Welcoming staff! The Foredeck Restaurant was amazing! food was absolutely delicious! Big shout-out to the executive chef who opened for us to prepare an exclusive satiable 3 course dining for both partner and I!
Had the utmost pleasure of spending 10 days at the bay of many coves from the staff to the accommodation faultless a paradise in New Zealand the best way to describe it is magical would happily go again anytime one of the highlights of my life from the beautiful bush walks to the stunning scenery and total utter relaxation priceless
The coffee was very well made but not what we ordered. When I let them know they apologised but at no time did they offer us a choice or a discount. Also because we weren't staying there and came down the track, we were accosted and told we shouldn't be there. We said we'd been coming here for 18 years and the person then apologised. We were made to feel we weren't welcome and will be unwilling to patronise this place any more
My husband and I had the most amazing time at Bay of ***y Coves. I think the price is fair for me to stay. It's a quick boat ride away from the town of Picton and its worth the trip. We hiked on th the Queen Charlotte Track which is very close by.
A great way to sample the track and return to your beautiful base. We had plenty to do in addition to relaxing. I think the ***agement do a great job. The ***ager was very professional in dealing with the problems. The staff are some of the most helpful and friendly people.
Absolutely stunning service, beautiful well-appointed accommodation, truly delicious meals and a stunning setting - which made all the ingredients for a truly relaxing stay in this haven. Thank you! We're already planning a return visit.
Absolutely beautiful spot. We did not stay here but just called in and had some lunch. Food and service were great. Views are amazing! A real "gem" in the Sounds!
Beautiful resort, it's also where we started our Queen Charlotte Track hike. They serve very fine food and wines. Friendly staff.
Bay of Many Coves is just one of the stops on the Nelmac Garden Marlborough Sounds Experience Tour. It is the perfect spot for lunch; delicious food, wonderful service and breath-taking views of the Marlborough Sounds.
Called in for lunch. Very friendly and accomadating. Great food and a butiful view.
Great location. Just a perfect place to stay if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle.
