D.We stayed at the Deco for four weeks, but it's easy to see why some people stay for months or years! It's in the most incredible spot, so close to town but backing onto a park full of fruit trees overlooking the lake and Remarkables. The staff and other guests were lovely, and the kitchen was one of the best I've seen in a hostel. There are lots of different areas to hang out in, both inside and out. And there's a decent sized collection of books, games and DVDs for rainy days. We loved our time there and would return in a heartbeat if we're in the region again.
K.Staying at Decos was wonderful! I stayed there long term and the staff and residents were always amazing. The staff were always very helpful and always put their residents' needs first. They made sure that everything was always kept clean and that all the residents were kept happy. As for the residents, they made the atmosphere amazing. During my stay everyone there really made me feel as though we were all apart of a family. My stay in New Zealand wouldn't be the same without this place and it will always hold a place in my heart. I highly recommend staying here!
F.I've stayed in this hostel for 6 month now, longer than expected, and I can call it my second home now. I had the most amazing time, including meeting the most amazing people. They'll include you as a family member. You can't think of a more relaxed, warm and welcoming atmosphere with the best view of Queenstown in the garden as well!

J.Decos has been a huge part of my adventure around New Zealand, I was only planning to stay here for a month and spent 10 months here. I fell in love with the place! 8!
The rooms are clean and comfortable, kitchen has plenty of room at all times, the owners and staff are super friendly and helpful.
But what makes decos great is the people, the people make this hostel. If you want a great travel experience i would highly recommend checking into this place.
M.I spent my summer in this hostel, loved every moment of it! The vibe of the hostel was great and felt like a big family. It had great management who made you feel comfortable and welcomed. If I return to Queenstown, Deco will always be number 1 on my list.

M.Stayed in Deco's for a bit more than 2 weeks after the lockdown and enjoyed it very much. People were more than welcoming as it was for the staff. Rooms were comfy, clean and with a proper size. Facilities were clean and decent. Would highly recommend this place for it has one of the best views in Queenstown and a good chunk of character.
O.What a place! What a home! What a family! Couldn't of asked for more, (well maybe for all of the toilets and showers to be functional) Tony the manager is a absolute diamond. Tim and Marla, the owners have seen it all and still manage to some how keep their sanity, and still care about the guests well being. Will always come back any time I return to queenstown. Thanks for all the memories!

The facilities are more than adequate, with a large living area and kitchen. Deco's also provides good room sizes and comftable bedding.

J.Came here of February this year amidst the nightmare of trying to find long term accommodation (peak summer time) when I arrived they looked after me straight away! It has a home /hostel vibe to it, I Survived the entire lockdown with my deco family and I couldn’t of found a better place to be looked after from the hostel management they treated us like family during the lockdown and got whatever we needed! Big struggles from time to time but I was looked after immensely! I made friends for life. Despite this place being in the news a lot negatively I suggest you set aside your prejudice as i have myself stayed in most hostels in Queenstown and have yet to find a better place than decos cheap, friendly and so accommodating and comfortable ❤️ get yourself to decos!!!!
F.Stayed for 6 weeks, great location in the centre of Queenstown with parking! The hostel has such a cosy chilled, friendly atmosphere, with lovely people and amazing helpful staff. Didn’t want to leave.
K.Great hostel close to downtown but in a quiet neighborhood. We slept in a 4 bed dorm in the main building and didn't have any problem with noise. The kitchen was super spacious and clean with outdoor seating to enjoy. I even forgot my (very expensive) camera in the room and not only did the folks cleaning the room turn it in, but the amazing Marla also sent it on to my next location! Great service!

P.You should be aware that there are lots of young people staying long term and this being sort of their home you can understand they will party. Also most of us aren't that tidy yet when we're twenty. I thought the kitchen and bathrooms were clean, considering. The view from the garden is lovely and juicy plums from the orchard is a plus. I payed for my own room (a bit pricy but I suppose not for Queenstown) and had pretty good sleeps with earplugs. Would not personally have stayed in a dorm here.
R.We stayed in the super double room, which is a large room with a good queen bed and a single. Had a great sleep. It's in the neighbouring house, away from the main house where the dorms are located. There are only 2 other bedrooms in that house, so it was nice and quiet.
Shower was very weak, so didn't have a great shower.
Kitchen was well stocked, but the fridges were quite full. They were clean at least.
Good quality free unlimited wifi.
T.I came to Decos in January of 2020, expecting to stay in Queenstown for a few months, before traveling onward. Decos is the reason I stayed for in Queenstown for over nine months.
I've stayed at Decos during the busy summer pre-covid, during NZ lockdown, and during the post-covid-ish-winter. While many of the people in Decos during those times changed, the vibes never did.
If you're looking for somewhere to stay for a night or two, Decos is the place to go. You will feel welcome by everyone there, whether its because you get invited out to go for a beer at 1876 or because you're convinced to play a game of cards with the group before you head to bed.
If you're looking to stay somewhere in Queenstown long term, Decos is the place for you, ten fold. Its primarily a long-term hostel and nearly everyone who's there chooses to stay so long because of the incredible relationships formed and the unparalleled memories created. Whether you're in town for a Christmas in July gettogether thrown by everyone, happen to come through on a birthday weekend, or stop by on a beautiful Sunday where the group is sitting together in the garden with a few beers, you will love your stay.

P.Very nice hostel, wonderful atmosphere and helpful and friendly staff. The hostel is a little bit old, so don't expect luxury bathrooms or dorms. There is a beautiful garden in the backyard where you can get a perfect view of Queenstown. All in all a perfect hostel for it's price, especially for long- term stays.

Kitchen, rooms and bathroom dirty. Chris (running the hostel) cleaned the kitchen several times though... 1/4 nights was really Noisy. Separating the waste would be really good. Chris is a good man but I reckon they need some more people managing the hostel
D.Stayed here for a week in a 4 share room. The room was spacious, beds were comfortable, room was quiet. Had a heater and a closet + a dresser. Hostel itself was older and needed some refurbishing. Lots of bathroom stall locks were busted, and taps all leaked or sinks were plugged.
Kitchen was ok. Free spices, but rarely room in the fridges or the pantry for your items, as the hostel kitchen/common room/outside area is dominated by the long term accommodation guests who didn't do their dishes, and didn't seem to care for anyone but themselves. Rarely saw the hostel staff.
Wifi works in the common room only, you won't get wifi in your bedrooms.
Very central location, close to everything, but the condition of the hostel and the long term guests made this experience less than ideal.
c.I stayed at Decos for over 6 months and it was on of the best hostels I have stayed at. Everyone is very friendly and the garden is lovely! Totally recommend.
M.Staff very friendly and helpful. You have access to free coffee and tea and also condiments in the kitchen for free! We stayed in a double room , room was not very big . The only problem was the location for our bedroom ( just in the front of the kitchen area) so very noisy every night as people party everyday .
L.It's 2 years ago I stayed there, but we had two queenrooms and they were adorable! We had to share one bathroom (6 people), but didn't have any trouble with that.
