c.One of the nicer hostels I've encountered so far worldwide. Really cozy, clean, super nice kitchen you'd actually want to cook in, very relaxed people and vibes, rooms very friendly and lots of good spaces to hang out. You can meet and hang out with other people or find a quiet spot to read a book, all up to you.
H.Raglan backpackers has been one of the most special spots for me in my NZ travels!! The moment you step into the place the energy of the staff, the owners, and the other guests warms you right on up. My two days turned into 3 weeks so far in Raglan because of these lovely humans. Plus, who knew you could find such stunning views, a spa, comfy beds, and even great shower pressure all in one place?! I felt so fortunate to be there for the two weeks I was and would recommend this gem of a spot to anyone!!
S.Best hostel I've ever stayed in. Relaxed atmosphere with great facilities and staff. Rental, activities, kitchen and the crowd it gathers all perfect. Great location on estuary and easy to get to surf beach. Rooms (we stayed in an 8) clean and very comfortable with great courtyard area and hot tub. Kitchen well prepped. Staff all friendly and healthy and provide daily update of best activities. Will definitely try stay again.
T.The best backpacker experience I ever had!!!! You indeed feel like a part of a family. They offer free kayak for the estuary, and you can rent bigger kayaks for the coast at a really competitive price. The little garden inside is lovely. It’s just a completely relaxing and entertaining time spent there. A great way to end my month-long NZ trip. Thank you. You guys are superb!!!
D.Great hostel, good facilities and very clean. Quite expensive for a hostel, but hot tub and sauna make up for it, as well as beautiful sunset views. Also, pretty much the only option for backpackers in the town.
L.Probably my favourite hostel I stayed in while on the North Island. It had such a nice character to it. The common ingredients in the kitchen were great, and something I'd like to see more of in hostels. Having free use of the spa and sauna was really appreciated. Staff were super friendly; overall, I would highly recommend.
J.Friendly staff(including the cat Meg), definitely nice vibe with great view, amazing location..... Was quite noisy with thin walls at night... girls shower broke so had to use unisex which wasnt the best.
Found used cotton bud when entered room so cleanness isnt at top notch...if you are looking for some private time better consider again.
P.Great vibe, staff is very, very helpful! Free use of single kayaks. SUP, boards/suits, and double kayaks for rent. Sauna & hot tub.
Close to everything and music venue (Yot) 5 min away...Check it out!
Update 16/1/20: still one of the best places on the north island. Clean & well maintained facilities... highly recommended! I stay here every year
M.On of the best hostels, I have ever stayed in. Free kayaks, bike-hire for $ 2 per hour, free spa pool and sauna, heaps of games available in the community room. Clean facilities and reasonable prices. A great place to meet other people. Surfboards and wetsuits for hire, the owners offer free transportation to the close surf-beach. Lots of activities around, I stayed longer than I had planned to
J.One of my favourite backpackers ive encountered. I have been several times. Staff are always friendly and helpful, and the space is clean. The set up allows for a fun communal area with spa and sauna available. Good location looking over the estuary with kayaks available. Super chilled out vibes.
R.One of my best hostel experiences ever. Staff is lovely, everywhere is clean and tidy, and the beds are comfortable; I can guarantee that, cause I stayed in most rooms as a consequence of constantly extending my stay. ;-) Also, the hostel offers great bonuses such as board/suit rent, hot tub, yoga mats, kayaks etc. All the best to Raglan Backpackers from me. l.This place is AMAZING!! This is exactly what I dream of when I think of an ideal Hostel. Staff was not just super helpful but actually also super FUN! People mostly kept to themselves but were also very friendly. It is a really big place and the kitchen gets busy but it's big enough to handle a lot of traffic.
Excellent location and HEAPS of cool services provided including loaner gear, equipment, and fun games/activities!
O.Friendly service, good price on surf rental gear and helpful staff - especially Russell! Seems like a cool place to stay though I haven't stayed here yet.
F.One of my favorite hostels I stayed at during my 2 month travel in New Zealand. Such good athmosphere, it made me feel right at home. Clean, kind people and great location. I Loved it so much, that I came back for an extra 2 weeks!
M.I spend 3 nights at the hostel and it took me some time to think about how to rate this place.
If you are young, like to mingle, party, drink and chat until midnight, like to kayak, surf, swim, slack line, spend your afternoon at the beach, this is the place to go! The vibe in the house and the garden in the middle is really nice and laid back. They have hammocks and a hot tub, many books to borrow and a shared kitchen with everything in it. It is super close to the water, close to the centre of raglan and the people who work (and live) there are all super social and kind.
So why only 3 stars you may ask? 1. I slept on the “city” side. And although everyone stills to the rules of being quite after 10pm in the hostel, I never experienced this much noise. You can hear the people at the parking lot and outside the hostel Talking as if they are standing right next to your head and it made it very hard to get a night of rest. If you are someone who likes to stay up late it is probably not a problem 2. The club is nearby and I could feel the beat of the music in my body while trying to sleep. It kept on going until the middle of the night. I have earplugs to sleep and they didn’t help at all! So I would check the program of the club before booking.
3. The room was very damp and warm and there was mould on the curtains that aren’t very healthy to sleep next to. Nothing that could be fixed right then and there ofcourse but maybe a good idea to change them this summer?!.
I really enjoyed the kayaking towards Rock-it Kitchen and back! I can highly recommend going there for lunch if the tide is right for you. (Has to be high tide)
M.LOVED! We stayed in a triple room and the house. Small space but super cozy and home-like. Good vibes and good people. Excellent location right in town near water. Flexible and accommodating. Nice bedding and hot tub in courtyard!
N.Hands down one of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed at. Comfy beds, clean rooms, the best ambiance and chill vibe. The hostel rents out surfboards and wetsuits, have a shuttle out to the beach and even have something different going on every night, like pizza night, quiz night and an open mic in their lounge.
N.Hostel itself is awesome. Great location, views, facilities. Most of the staff are awesome! But there is one guy, Pablo, that is grumpy and extremely easily irritated. He made me feel like I was a huge inconvenience and in his way. There were at least 10 other guests talking about him, before I ever opened my mouth. He should not be in a position to provide customer service as it makes people not want to stay there. We all avoided him like the plague. And unfortunately, it clouds the greatness of the hostel itself. Which is sad cause it's awesome. If you can avoid him, then it's great!
A.Raglan backpackers was by far the best hostel I stayed at. The facilities are great and clean, I loved using the free hot tub and sauna. And I really liked the hammocks :)
Walking to the pub, supermarket and shops took like 2 minutes.
The staff is friendly and super cool! I will definitely come back!

Unfortunately the Van's out the front are very loud and the dont abide but the noise curfews so try not to be in the rooms backing them.
L.Excellent hostel with awesome vibe. Cheap surfing, free kajaking. There is a hot pool, a sauna, a slackline and a lot more to ensure a great stay! Good place to get stuck!
R.Large group stayed at the Waterfront Lodge next to the backpackers over the weekend, Impressed with the the location, 2 min walk to the event we were all participating in, and to town, The fire was going when we arrived, the beds were comfortable, the house had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay! hosts at the backpackers were friendly and helpful the fact that we could also use the facilities at the backpackers was awesome, the spa/sauna was amazing for us after our races. cant wait to come back again next year! Totally recommend the Water front lodge/ Raglan Backpackers!
S.Great Hostel, great possibilities, great owner and the girl at the reception (E.) is super nice. So is the guy who told us how to surf.
There is a sauna, a jacuzzi, free kayaks (well, the smaller ones are free) and you can rent surfboards and get a free ride to the beach.
All in all: perfect!
P.Best hostile I have ever stayed in. The atmosphere is amazing. The staff are laid back and relaxed. The people staying there were amazing. Everything was clean. Staying here is an experience in itself. Plus the view is pretty great.
E.Raglan backpackers is an amazing experience and it is right in the middle of town so you can walk everywhere. I really loved all their facilities, especially hot tub and sauna. Also, there was always a good crowd of people around so you basically never get bored. I'm definitely coming back! :)
W.My first impression wasn't good, it seemed dirty and untidy but after that I could notice that they clean up and organize everything, Hostel is good, well located and the sctruture also really nice.. Atmosphere could be better, there were a lot of germans speaking only their language. Some staffs were unfriendly but others really good.
P.Lovely surfer- hostel with cozy and tidy rooms and friendly staff. The Backpackers is clean, cozy and well equiped. It even has a sauna and a spa. The only thing I was missing was WIFI, but I guess one can survive a few evenings without internet.
A.We only popped in to ask if we could hire the kayaks. Staff were ok but told us it wasn't for us and we should do a tour. We then went to Raglan Kayak and Paddleboard got a cheaper price and we did great going solo without a tour. No idea what it's like to stay here but of what I saw it did look very clean and tidy.

The hostel has a jacuzzi and sauna, free and fast Wifi. The hostel offers bike rentals and surf lessons at a good price. The kayaks are free, which I think was cool as it could very well be charged. The staff are friendly and always willing to help with any request or question. Besides one of them is beautiful hauahhaha.

Hostel do lado do centro. A poucos passos do supermercado, bares e restaurantes. Eu e meu amigo ficamos em um quarto de 3 camas. A cama é confortável e o estabelecimento é limpo. O hostel possui jacuzzi e sauna, Wifi gratuito e rápido. O hostel oferece aluguel de bicicletas e aulas de surf por um preço bem em conta. Os kayks são gratuitos, o que achei bem bacana pois poderia muito bem ser cobrado. Os funcionários são simpáticos e sempre dispostos a ajudar com qualquer solicitação ou pergunta. Além de um deles ser lindíssimo hauahhaha.
