M. R.What makes a hotel very hospitable is a great staff. Megha the receptionist at the Copthorne Rotorua made this trip memorable. She works long hours and doubles in many capacities and is excellent in each. The hotel is quite central, good large rooms which open to a large courtyard with lemon and cherry trees. It has an inviting warm water swimming pool. The dining areas are spacious and comfortable. Loved this hotel .
T. L.Great value for money accommodation, my family & I stayed 3 nights and loved the experience. Our rooms were well presented and clean, and the beds were super comfy. The heating was great in two rooms, and with the third room heating being broken at the time the front desk brought over two convection heaters and apologised sincerely, bringing me to adding that the staff were so very accommodating, helpful and friendly with genuine smiles, assuring that our rooms be as close as possible at little notice as we booked the extra room last minute. We had a great time in the outdoor heated pools, with extra towels supplied without any fuss. So good in winter!

A. G.The 3.5 average rating is a fair one. Hotel is quite close to the town centre. But the building and rooms are tired and dated. The pool is in urgent need for retiling with some sharp broken tiles so around.
The bins in the room are also quite small and impractical.
But the rates were reasonable compared to Airbnb and other motels
A. B.Stayed last night. Rooms and beds were good.. the pump on the shower soap etc was broken and needs replacing. The spa was not heated. Hot chocolate sachets as an option for kids would be great.
P. F.Great value for money accommodation, me and my kids stayed 3 nights and loved the experience. My room was well presented and clean, the beds were very comfy. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. We had a great time in the outdoor heated pools, so good in winter. Two things that would have put the rooms up to 5 stars are a microwave in the room and a detachable shower head. Thank you for having us!
R. W.We stayed there over Christmas...room was standard and staff were lively however air conditioning wasn't working. The room was so hot, was hard to sleep especially when we were travelling daily.
T. D.Disappointing. Beds had toppers on that was so thick you sank deep into the bed, even my 12 year old said his back hurt after sleeping there. Spa and pool luke warm. Breakfast very limited. Area is not safe with emergency housing.

The reason for one star ☆ missing is because of the shower. If it was the flexible one, not the one from the wall, it would be nicer.

S.Loved the stay but food was under average. Not happy how they served tin food. I'm sure even rest of the bread and other things were frozen products.

K.Went for the buffet dinner.Booked last year at 7pm and was a little disappointed at the speed of the top up of empty options this year though we booked 5.30 and omg food was fresh plentiful and delicious and as per usual the staff there are always welcoming and just add to to the experience and just a credit to the Copthorne and as a Duty Manager myself I know what I am talking abt so thank you Copthorne staff will see you next year
s.It's a big and beautiful property with a lot of good staff. It is very near to market, gardens and all the experiences nearby. For Indian tourists, there is a Gurudwara just behind the hotel and swaminarayan temple is 5 minutes walk. I used to visit the small and beautiful rose garden quite often which is 1 minutes away. The rooms are big and nice. They have suit rooms also which is quite good and specious. Almost all the bathrooms have bath tub. The hotel has a hot water swimming pool and 2 spa pools also. It has a restaurant that opens for limited time only. It has a lot of space around reception and pool to sit, relax and talk....It has small and medium size conference room also. They have a gym also but the most important thing is their staff. All of them were very cooperative and polite. Will stay there any day....you can park your car for free in It's big parking area, that is rare in Newzealand.

M. B.Clean sanitary room, luxurious soft clean bed !! Coffee making in room. Heating took a minute but then toasty. Outdoor Pool that is indoors!! and then 2 jacuzzi's to soak in. Great options for TV channels. Appreciated the free wifi for work purposes. Didn't need to use restaurant but it looked top class. Another setting with bar and comfy seating included a fire to relax in front of. There is plenty of safe parking. Felt safe in the whole complex. Friendly welcoming and smiling staff. I appreciated the professionalism. I'm staying here for the rest of year because it's perfect for my needs and they do it so well ! Great nightly rate, affordable, and booking was a breeze with Theresa. Thankyou so much.

Electric sockets and light switches right under pillows which was bit weird.
D. B.The air con didn't work. No ventilation in the bathroom. We paid for 2 queen beds got 1 and a single. Paid for 2 rooms side by side ended up with extra guests between us. When we arrived the beds where made and fresh towels but the bench where sticky . Would we stay there again no plenty of other choices

A. M.Stayed here overnight. Nothing to complain about. The area we were in had really strong sulphur smell in the hallway but fortunately the rooms were good. It was clean and comfortable. Location was great for our stay. Would have loved a longer stay but unfortunately wasn't to be this trip.

Gym equipment doesn't work (I tried three different pieces of equipment) and hotel management are aware that equipment doesn't work... so why not remove it or replace it? Spa pool nice addition.

Not the cleanest room, I brought detergent did bit of cleaning due to my OCD. On arrival, greeted by less enthusiastic receptionist, she gave me Wi-Fi pass and directed me to the bar to work. When it was time to check in I had a friendly helpful receptionist different from the one earlier.
Apparently, you pre order meals (lunch and dinner), the meals are delivered to the restaurant where you have your meal 6.30ish.
Decor outdated, needs fresh paint, bit of refresh or maybe a lot. No frills, you have fundamentals. Don't expect luxury when you visit - it had its hey day when it first opened, lack TLC over the years.
PS: Day 2 - I enjoyed my comfortable bed, quiteness and had a lovely meal at dinner. Staff were friendly and helpful, my room and entry foyer seemed cleaner. Packed away my cleaning products. Day 2 much positive experience, Umm maybe on arrival it was a tough day. Enjoyed my last day. Added extra star to my original rating.

K. L.Shocking standard of hotel that appears to be on its last legs.||Safes didn't work, in room phone line didn't work, lift didn't work, swimming pool had tiles falling off the walls. Cobwebs on the ceilings, stained and bulging carpet throughout, splitting wood throughout, needs painted badly. ||Room was ok with a terrace.. Bed was good. Shower also shocking. ||Long walk to town or anywhere really.

K. S.I imagine that perhaps in the 90s this place would have been pretty hip and happening but unfortunately it’s quite dated aesthetically and the public areas are a ghost town which makes the atmosphere a little creepy.
Other than the dated look, rooms were clean and comfortable bedding.
Pool is nice (cooler than other thermal pools in the area), spa jets did not work. It was a lovely outdoor area and they should try and activate by adding a fire pit, serving cocktails by pool, have themed nights etc.
Service was friendly, checkin easy.
Y. H.Decent hotel, clean and the balcony is nice to relax outside. Quite good value for money. Only downside is both times we stayed housekeeping come into the room quite early before checkout banging on the door to come in. Second time just walked in unlocked the door without knocking a whole hour before checkout time. No cutlery or plates, have a restaurant but no room service
H. V.The comfiest beds I've ever slept on in a hotel. Staff was incredibly welcoming and considerate for our large group. Facilities were clean. Pool was heated and had great hours! The indoor common spaces were a tad cold, but rooms were a comfortable temperature.

M. F.We enjoyed our stay at the Copthorne. Rooms were nice and very quiet. Could not hear noise from road or other guests. Beds were really comfortable. Aircon was great! Staff were very friendly and helpful. Pool and spa were enjoyed several times. Happily accommodated extra night and ensured our two rooms were next to each other.

Rooms are clean and tidy, air conditioning works great, and there is a heated pool and 2 spas in the middle of the complex.
Looking around you can see much maintenance they needs to be done.
We were also short of towels each night, spoke to the staff and they don't do washing on sure as apparently was to expensive... But now washing done of site they are constantly short of towels etc.
But for the price, I say it's fine.
C. S.Overall the stay at Copthorne Hotel was nice. The check in process was fine. The room size was more than enough. The cleanliness of the room itself was below average and the bathroom facilities are outdated. With that being said, I would still stay here. Excellent place to stay for the price.
D. B.Location is good, and we booked at the last minute, so a little expensive during School Holidays. Room was basic , we got a twin Queen bed room. Bed was comfortable. Tv was basic too - with freeview. Most facilities are not available at the moment like room service or restaurant.

T.Aged hotel with reasonable services. Swimming pool and spa pools are available. It's different from before that restaurant has no buffet breakfast and only order from manu.
S. S.Bed was nice, but room was a little rough. I did like the balcony. The Breakfast buffet was limited and they charged extra if there was more than one. Definitely not worth the extra charge.
S. L.I must admit we didn't spend much time in the hotel itself other than sleeping. The beds are comfy and the room and bathroom was cleanish. I think the issue with cleanliness is more to do with the age of some of the bathrooms rather than anything else. The shower heads need a good scrub/treatment with bicarbonate. Quite quiet and no difficulty parking.
V. K.Very kind staff very punctual at what they do and offer the best services possible to clients the food is to die for. Honestly the hotel is in one of best locations as If your new to rotorua you don't get that sulfur smell the beds are like sleeping on clouds 10/10 would recommend
M. H. D. l. S.Has a spacious parking. Lounge area was quite warm and decorated with Maori wooden carvings. The pool was a moderate size and has two jacuzzi. It was situated in the middle part of the hotel. The gym was a bit underwhelming since the equipments were old and rusty. Nevertheless, the room was quite stunning, elegant and inviting. Mixed comments with the staff as some are really nice and hospitable while others doesn’t seem to care to say hi or even hello to their guests.

C. D.The hotel was decently clean, save for finding one earwig on the wall which was promptly disposed of. The lobby was recently renovated but the rest of the hotel was incredibly dated. The hotel was convenient for the town centre as it is situated on what is known as 'motel mile' which is close to 'eat street', an area full of restaurants. The hotel couldn't escape the sulphur smell which is present in the whole town (as it is in a well known geothermal area). The room we were given had a door to an adjoining room with no lock. We were not made aware of this when booking and did not know the occupants next door so this was an unhappy surprise. This also allowed sound to travel easily from the next room which was not ideal. On the positive side, the staff were attentive and the bed was very comfortable and soft.
G. W.A hotel that still shows it's few decades old age, but for the unbeatable price, would be one we'd come to again here. The double queen rooms were overall clean, spacious, and looked nice, but there's just some aspects like bathroom ceiling vents missing, hallways showing lots of wires in the roof, and patio furniture having old, flat and stained pillows. The wifi also never worked. But else, we liked the Māori statues, the AC in the rooms, having a pool, and the reception staff.

Also felt it was expensive and didn't offer value for money. Night 2 we were kept awake by party on the balcony below and they must have been smoking inside as the smell found it's way into the room.

Sulin the duty manager could not have been better and with great local knowledge and advice. our lady who welcomed us at check in was just amazing also. Awesome pool and spa and garden area for an afternoon beverage. Super comfy bed. Great location. Ample parking. And breakfast was one of the best we have had. We have left feeling so so so relaxed and regretful we arent staying for longer. Definitely comimg back!

Copthorne is a large hotel on the main hotel strip in Rotroua. The buildings are a little on the old side but it is clear that the place has been well looked after and maintained.
There was a little bit of a line when we arrived to check in with only one person on the front but the line quickly disappeared when another staff member came to help check in guests.
Our room was on the third floor. The day that we checked in was especially hot so it was a very nice touch that the AC was running to keep the room cool for us.
The room was very clean and tidy, as was the bathroom. Amenities included the standard toiletries and complimentary milk.
We weren't advised of any wifi details (though this wasn't a problem for a short stay), nor were we given carpark instructions. We did overhear that the carpark is first come, first served basis which seemed reasonable. As we were out for a late dinner we did have to park on the street upon our return at night. This wasn't too much of an issue however.
Facilities include a swimming pool and a typical hotel gym (don't expect all the equipment that a gym has).
Hotel location is nice, however is a little too far to walk to and from town, so a car is recommended if staying here.
Overall I enjoyed my stay here. The hotel is a little old, but has been well maintained and has the facilities you would expect. I look forward to staying here again in the future.

S.Went to a wedding here last night, booked my room months ago and was quite disappointed considering the price, no wifi, got sent to a very old part of the hotel which I didn't know existed as I had only seen the tidy and more modern reception and bar area I felt like I was in a prison. The bed was comfortable though and the room was clean. Really good service and friendly staff.
A.The beds are to die for. For the first time in who knows how long - I had to wake my smallest person up so we could get to our 9am breakfast on time.
The staff are genuinely lovely. I rate them highly!
Unfortunately, you can tell that Covid has done a number on the place and impacted it's services. You can tell pre- Covid this would be the coolest place to stay
V.It's one of the largest and oldest Hotels in Rotorua. Staff polite, but hotel on skeleton crew due to fewer overseas visitors. Beds super comfortable, but check room as housekeeping can miss things. Restaurant closed for evening meals, use Uber Eats. Breakfast on offer, Sunil managing the breakfast service was really professional and attentive. Breakfasts are great! I recommend the omelets.

T. M.It is a dated hotel but if you are on a budget, this is a good option. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Location-wise, it is in the city center and a few minutes drive to the grocery shops and restaurants.
S. M.The only thing I didn't like was that the shower was over the bath which is not safe for elderly or anyone with hip problems who cannot lift a leg high enough to step over the bath edge.

Prize giving was held at the Copthorne Hotel we were treated very well we gathered in the foyer through the main entrance it was nice and warm inside where we waited for the other netball teams from our club to arrive. Over 50 of of us were taken through to a hall where we conducted our prize giving and then we went to the buffet where we spent the rest of our night the food was amazing well cooked and fresh the staff were very helpful we all enjoyed our time spent at the Copthorne hotel
