We stayed for a few hours and enjoyed the walk through the native bush. Tracks are mostly well maintained. Animals are great! The owner was very welcoming, so we will definitely come again.

This was the best place we've stayed so far. Hospitality at it's best!!
The room was very clean, neat and comfortable. Water pressure is also good in the bathroom. There's also a very peaceful atmosphere during the day and at night.

A hidden gem! Our dog Maggie gives it a 5 paw rating . We enjoyed the garden with its interesting walkways and animals. Next time we will bring a picnic.

Great location tucked away in native bush. Lovely hosts, beautiful walks that include life-size metal craft african animals. Very unique with it's themed rooms and a lot of interesting areas to discover, with quite a history within the building itself. Highly recommended. Definitely a revisit planned.

The owners go above and beyond to make your stay unforgettable. The gardens are beautiful not to speak about the life size African wildlife statues placed strategically around the garden. The little fairy village is just wonderful and a delight for young and old.

I loved my time at Te Popo gardens. It is a small piece of Africa nestled into Taranaki, NZ native bush. South African NZ'ers will feel at home with the facilities, glorious life size metal sculptures of African animals and the serenity of the surrounds and have them coming back for more.
Take the time to go on the short walk to immerse yourself in the NZ bush, see the plants and trees, and hear the running water of the stream as you transition through the subtropical rainforest. Take your time to smell the earth and bush and feel the temperature changes. Move quietly, engaging all your senses with child like innocence, grounding yourself in the present and the gifts of the bush.
I will return with my family to explore more of the walks. Such a treasure and I applaud the vision, tenacity, friendliness and commitment of the lovely couple who keep it open to the public.

I just spent a wonderful weekend at Te Popo Gardens, surrounded by countryside, close to beaches and Mt. Taranaki. Hospitality was friendly and welcoming, beautiful meals, pleasant and well presented rooms. Awaking to tranquil setting, birds singing, beautiful walks around gardens, surrounded by streams, lovely trees and flowers. Had an excellent time during my stay at Te Popo, not to mention a farm visit at Te Kupe Station, hosted by Murray Jackson. Would be amazing to return to Te Popo Gardens and visit in spring or summer when gardens are in full bloom, will be breath taking I am sure !!!

Staying at Te Popo Gardens was the absolute high light of my trip! The hospitality was heart-warming and the incredibly beautiful gardens a real piece of Paradise Lost. Loved the "part of the family" feeling. My only problem - that I couldn't stay longer. Big shout-out to the Heynies!!

Te Popo Gardens, located 45km's from New Plymouth, Taranaki (North Island), is a beautiful place to spend a relaxing weekend out in the country. Great hospitality and comfortable nice rooms with cosy warm fires create a welcoming atmosphere. Surrounded by amazing gardens, streams, native trees and wildlife. During our stay we were fortunate enough to experience a thrilling 4WD ride on Te Kupe Station and had a interesting insight into NZ farming.

Great place to stay in Taranaki. In the garden, there are bush walk, fish pond, Bed and Breakfast, and coffee shop. You will never get board in there. I really want to go back again.

(Translated) Very good, clean, calm. A very pretty park raised and maintained all around the hotel where to walk. A nice lounge with a DVD collection available. The apartment is filled with small details that make the difference (New Zealand soaps and shampoo, cleansing wipes, plaids, soft bathrobes etc ...). Very pleasant.
