Absolutely amazing staff, so friendly and helpful! The room was clean and tidy and the facilities were perfect. Close enough to the town that everything was in walking distance. Highly recommend as an affordable and nice spot to stay while on holiday!

Good location. Clean room. Clean bathroom. Safe free parking. Good value. Easy booking and check-in.

Decent place. Small double rooms. Great location. Good wifi. Facilities were fine as well. Clean place. Condensation built up inside room such that the inside of the door was damp - not a significant issue.

Very clean and quiet. The reception staff were helpful and got back to me very quickly with regards to a late check-in. I had a double room, which was cosy, warm and had a TV in it. I would definitely recommend a stay here.

Well worth the cost for a night. Nice privacy with curtains and a light, plus power points at your bedside too. Wasn't too bad staying in a 9bed dorm, unless you don't like snoring and sometimes you hear every whisper or every movement. For is it was a cheap stay, and it was worth it! Thanks Haka Lodge

Great for the price, good view of the lake, reasonable amenities. Beds could be a little quieter, the top bunk makes a bit of noise, but, nothing major. Great overall stay, simple and easy :)

You can hear and people talking from the other side of the hostel. - small rooms and Bathrooms.

Went at the end of august during Level 2, so it was quiet what i enjoyed a lot. Very clean facilities, super friendly and helpful staff as well. A cozy lounge with a good little library. 2 minute walk to town center, 3 min walk to the lake. Lake view from the lodge and a lovely rooftop for barbecues. Enjoyed my stay a lot. Thank you!

I spent two nights in a 5-bed mixed dorm. The beds are comfortable, 4 out of 5 beds in the dorm are surrounded by curtains. The rooms are bit small, but clean. Bathrooms seemed to be cleaned throughout the day, but could get a bit dirty at times. I didn't use the kitchen. The common areas were lovely, great for meeting fellow travelers. Reception was friendly, welcoming, and helpful.

Value for money has all the facilities that are required. Clean toilets, clean rooms wiith individual bunk bed reading lights and storage drawer. Friendly staff and quite well located.

The rooms here are comfortable, they come with wooden frames built into the wall so the matresses can be moved and the person above/below cannot feel it. The mattresses are really comfortable and the sheets were clean. The beds came with individual lights and charging points which is incredibly helpful. The kitchen was nice and clean. Bathrooms are mixed which is never great, so more bathrooms would be preferable and separate would be nice. The bathroom doors slam too loudly, they need soft close options because staying in room 6 next to the bathroom, when someone used it the wall I was sleeping next to shuddered with the slam. The staff also need cleaning signs to place on the bathrooms to close them. First time I was in the shower and had someone hollar at me "I need to clean that shower next" which isn't appropriate to do. If it needs to be cleaned and the person is at the end of their shift, and someone is using the shower, just tell the person the next shift to clean it. Second time I went in to use the loo and the lady was cleaning one and the other was used so I waited and then she asked me to go use another one. So really if you're going to do this you need some signs on the doors to close them off to people. I do like this place but staff need a bit of training and assistance with cleaning protocols. They also had a lovely TV room to relax in that was really clean and tidy.

Friendly atmosphere and good living area. Some of the room layouts are really small. The en-suite bathroom you couldn’t even dry yourself and get dressed in which made things slightly awkward. I managed to see one of the non en-suite rooms which had a lot more space, may be better option. For the size of the place the dining room isn’t overly big and hard to get a seat at peak times. Hot tub is good but you can only book for 30 minutes, no drinking or eating in the area also. The no drinking sort it sucked the fun out of it for us. Friendly staff although one staff member is particular was grumpy the whole time spent there which actually made you feel out of place. Reception staff were awesome.

Cheap, pretty basic accommodation but the room wss clean and comfy. Bathroom is a tight squeeze but the shower was really great. The young man at the reception was very nice and helpful. 'Easy as' check in and out. Free unlimited WiFi and the speed was okay, just normal. The lounge was cozy and warm and the others guests were friendly and chatty. The kitchen is spacious, equipped with stove, oven, fridge, microwave and with lots of cutlery and pots for all your cooking needs. Love the look of the wooden tables and chairs. The outdoor seating is cool with great views. It was raining when we stayed so was careful going up and down the steps as it can be slippery. I saw a pretty cat but it took off when I want to pat it. Good location and plenty of spaces to park the car.

This place is fantastic value for money. The owner is friendly and professional. We will definitely be staying here again. Recommend for sure.

Had everything we needed for our short stay. The staff were very friendly, and despite arriving late in the evening we were able to check in with no problems. The beds we're great and comfortable, and felt very private with curtains across every bunk. We appreciated having an ensuite in the room, and the kitchen seemed well equipped. Parking on site was useful, and the place was well situated close to town and the lake and everywhere we needed to go.

Would recommend for sure.. stayed in a five bed share with my partner and the room is nice! A bit snug, but, no worse than any other hostel I guess... The beds are really well made and comfortable, unfortunately you can't sit up on the bottom bunk because the top bunk is in the way, but, hey ho.. there is a curtain on each for extra privacy, and a socket and lamp on each bunk, which is a great idea.. there are little storage bits under the beds to store your stuff in, which you could put a padlock on if you wanted although no one seems to be using them.. there is a private bathroom in our share with a toilet sink and shower - again really small, so getting dressed isn't easy but it's nice to not have to leave the room etc to go to the toilet.. all the facilities are pretty decent, the shower has reasonable pressure and it's all nice and clean... The kitchen is really nice however it does get super crowded in there. It does have three sinks and the hobs are spread out well so people shouldn't be tripping over each other as much but for some reason it still just feels really cramped etc.. again there are nice facilities, good fridge set up, boxes for recycling etc and it's kept nice and clean.. there is a nice outside decking area with seats and a BBQ which is a nice touch.. there is apparently a hot tub but we haven't checked that out yet

Rooms were small, but property has very cool aesthetic. Pretty good location, a bit of a walk into town. Cozy movie room and beautiful kitchen/eating space. Outdoor space and a hot tub, but never had a chance to use it.

Comfy lounge and well equipped kitchen and dining. Good communal toilet and showers. Pleasant facilities. Not convinced the bed had clean sheets and had stains on the bed cover.

Incredibly clean and well run place. All shared facilities are in immaculate condition. Everything is super clean. Kitchen is well equipped with dishes and everything else for cooking. Room was very clean, bed comfy and crisp white new sheets. There is a cute lounge with nice couches and fancy flat screen TV. Loved this place. Very good value!

Turned up young ones having a few sounded like a good party made the atmosphere seem buzzy a d enjoyable however I was tired and our room was not to far from the party however it was peaceful and sleep came easy felt totally revived in the morning

Staff was helpful and the place was clean. As a couple we booked a double with shared bathroom facilities. We were place in room 7 which was awful. Not only was the bed lopsided and uncomfortable it sits between the main stairway on a corrner with both windows facing the interior walkways allowing for no privacy whatsoever. It also ajoins a dorm style room so noise was an issue as the walks are thin. Next time I will pay an extra $10-20 to stay at a different place with better sound proffing and private toilet.

Lovely place within a short walk to the lake front and the main location of the bars and restaurants. Room was well presented and clean but it needed a few more hooks to hang jackets/coats, more storage and plug sockets. The complex does have a hot tub and picnic benches but the parking is limited

As a backpackers it's fine. Nice big deck. However while it's supposed to be a quiet hostel after 10.30pm it was not quiet at all on the weekend I was there. Groups pre loading before going into town and then noisey at 3 -4am when they come back.

Really Nice hostel! The beds in the dorms are so nice... with laps, sockets, a small shelf for books, phone, etc and a curtain... I stayed in a 6 bed one and felt as if I had my own room somehow... kitchen, terrace and lounge are pretty nice. Bathroom as well... only problem ist that there are nor seperate bathrooms... so female and male together... and the hostel is a little bit out of the center but next to a road... so not too quiet but you have a little longer walk..

Love my little room. Comfortable bed. TV on the wall. Slow free WiFi but hey 50 bucks for the night. Very nice staff. I will come back. A large freezer would give it 5 stars.

Really enjoyed my stay at Haka Lodge. Beds were comfortable. The hot tub is a big plus. The atmosphere was very chilled and quiet, but staff and other guests really friendly.

Best hostel bed I've slept in. Comfy and clean. Good kitchen with all the utensils although can get busy if hostel is full. Really nice lounge area with big TV. Fast WiFi. Hot tub too. Booked shuttle for tongariro from outside the hostel.

As with other haka hostels the spacious rooms offer wooden beds which come with a respective curtain and outlets. The kitchen and bathrooms are clean and modern and the staff is friendly. There is really nothing negative other than that the facilities can get a little crowded in the evening.

Great hostel. Clean, good facilities and professional staff. Curtains for each bunk is a nice touch, as it minimises disruption. Whilst It is marketed as an upmarket hostel, I don't believe it measure up to other upmarket hostels around the world.

Had a 5 bed dorm between 2 people so was spacious but could be cramped if fully booked. Good kitchen and amazing hot tub.

Really enjoyed our stay, cheap prices, friendly staff, clean room, clean toilet. Unfortunately, there was some construction work going on next door, so no chance to sleep in. Otherwise best hostel since I started my journey in NZ.

I love the Haka Lodge hostels and I try to stay there whenever possible. The bunk beds are sturdily built so don't squeak and are comfortable. Each bunk has privacy curtains, powerpoints/outlets and lights. Also, they provide storage facilities where you can lock up your bags.

Good setting, close to town ship. Ample of parking space, 10mins walk to lake, rooms are small and you can hear next door people. Good kitchen facilities and other facilities... Friendly staff

This is one of the best set up backpackers we have stayed at. The hosts were super friendly, the place was spotlessly clean and the set up of the rooms etc was fantastic. We really recommend, well worth every cent.

Amazing Hostel!!! The hostel is split over two buildings which is awesome as it keeps it small and it feels like a smaller hostel and you get to know the people better? The rooms are amazing, plus by beds and super comfy beds! Bunks have curtains too which make them private which is lovely. Windows open wide too which is a blessing! The kitchen and lounge facilities are awesome, bathrooms are really good too! I would stay here again and I'll cherry pick the other Haka Lodge hostels out too as they're absolutely fantastic! It's like a FlashPacker place, there sre others are in Paihia, Taupo and Queenstown plus two more which I think are Auckland and Christchurch but I'm not too sure!! :)

You pay for what you get, but still I've been in cleaner backpackers for similar prices. The room smelt awful (sweat and b.o)

Great location. Quite poor Wi-Fi even though we were told they pride themselves with a great with connection. Staff really friendly and helpful. Only stayed one night, therefore did not get a chance to use any other facilities.

Didn't think I'd ever do backpacking but we booked The Apartment and it was fab travelling with Son and Daughter-in -law and hubby. Plenty of room, clean and comfy.

Nice easy going sort of place to hang the hat while exploring lovely Taupo, clean simple dorms and a pretty good kitchen. My only criticism would be that competition for the laundry amenities can get a bit fierce.

Stayed here for a few nights in august. The place was all good. We only noticed that one of the receptionist was a bit rude to us and other costumers. She was very ironic all the time and it wasn’t so welcoming.

The room didn’t come with heat pump and the bathroom, though comfortable, was very small. Not much privacy, considering that it’s a backpackers place.

Lovely hostel not too far from town centre. Plenty of parking and street parking space. There's also a hot tube! Book in a time slot at reception!
