Great lodge. Friendly and efficient staff. Was given a dorm with an ensuite for myself and stayed one night. Very clean and tidy room. Secure parking on property is a real bonus. Can absolutely recommend this Backpacker and will definitely come again.

Super affordable, we had a private bathroom too. It was really clean and had a Van Gogh painting in the hall so ticks all my boxes

Really nice and clean place. The reception actually looked quite dirty which made us think maybe the place is too, but it's not. It's really clean, the kitchen is awesome with everything you need, super friendly staff. The room (6 beds) was large with comfy beds. Highly recommended! Would go there again.

Staff are friendly and understanding, they offer discounts to those who are staying for periods over a week e.g. (moving for work).

A little dated, but very laid back. Close to everything. There is a secure parking area behind an electronic gate. Nice outside area. Well equipped kitchen with plenty of fridge space. It was the cheapest in town too- my primary driver with the selection process...

You get what you pay for I guess. Our room was very clean and tidy and the staff friendly. The communal areas were shockingly dirty. The free coffee they had on offer looked like it would grow legs and walk away any day now (really really dirty). Great location to Taupo City Center. very affordable but would not stay here again.

Cozy quiet place. A bit old but has the essentials. Complimentary tea and coffee is available all the time for the guests. Coffee also comes with milk. There are lots of cutlery and free condiments in the common kitchen. Two microwaves, stove, fridge and freezer. Laundry takes $4 for washing and $4 for drying. Free unlimited wifi available. The kitchen door and and laundry are closed from 9-9:30 pm. Also the entrance gate closes at 10 pm and you need to enter a code to get in.

Rob did a great job checking me in and showing the place. It's very cheap for a shared room with bathroom/shower for max. 4 people. Only $30. Of course the place needs lots of improvement...mainly kitchen and lounge. Everything looks tired and not very cleaned. But it's a charming place with nice rainbow versions everywhere.

Great value for money. We only stayed one night as we were only passing through. Our room and ensuite was clean and tidy. It was also nice to have doors opening to our own little court yard. Bed was very comfortable too.

Very good, low cost, accommodation with secure parking. Staff helpful & good facilities. Put ice packs in a freezer in laundry, but only Manager's key opened that door, so had to get him up on the morning we left!! He didn't mind though.

Really great hostel. Location is not too far from the centre walking distance. Staff were really friendly, Ross at reception was really welcoming. Our dorm was an 8 bed but felt like staying at a friends house with bathroom and loads of space. The kitchen had an amazing selection of spices which is great to be able to use in cooking.

Cute and well set up hostel Do not recommend unless you’re a deep sleeper. The walls are thin and people were talking (and not trying to be quiet) in the dorm hallway from 6am. You’d think it common courtesy to keep it down until 8/9am. We had a three bed dorm which and the beds were comfortable. The kitchen has two hobs which is good with many people staying here. Cleanliness is okay for a hostel. Loved to see the sustainability efforts they were doing. Actively reducing plastic wherever they can etc Also looks like they’re offering a variety of activities which would be fun for backpackers.

Nice place. Really enjoyed my stay. Nice people around, helpful staff, and good facilities. Bring earplugs tho, people tend to go out drinking so if you wanna sleep without getting woken up in the middle of the night, best come prepared. Really nice kitchen facilities with everything you need, and nice and clean toilets. Showers could use an upgrade though but they worked as they should so I guess I can't complain. Better than many other hostels 👍👍

Rainbow is an amazing hostel. Good open kitchen/lounge which makes it great for socializing. Ross and the staff are super kind and welcoming. Spent lockdown here and couldn't have been happier. Not too far from town either. 11/10 best hostel in NZ

Best affordable Lodge in Taupo. Adam was very welcoming. They provided us with a good hygienic room. Toilets were very neat and clean. The lodge also offered a good car park. Also thank you very much Ross for arranging this lodge 🙂

A little run down, but lovely and clean. The staff are very friendly and helpful. A kitchen complete with spices and if you prefer the fresh sort, some one has taken the time to grow it for you - a nice touch. It is close to town, Pak N Sav and the Warehouse - all within walking distance. The lake front is 15 minutes away, shouldnyou decide to walk that too

It was what we paid for. Adam our host took his role very seriously even the inconvenience at 3am to unlock our room was not a problem. We followed the rules and guide lines and he appreciated this big thank you Adam from the sexy six Sheila's from LV

The room I was put in was a 9 person dorm, it was spacious and the only backpackers I've been to that didn't smell like feet. I'll be back to serenade another batch of unfortunate souls with my dragon snoring soon😘

Not the best backpackers we have stayed in around NZ, definitely missing the International travelers. Unfortunately the bed was very uncomfortable and there were no sharp knives in the kitchen which was annoying.

The room was great for the price! The owner is lovely and happy to help with anything. Free coffee in reception during reception hours. Bathrooms were clean. Good common area, although it could do with some more cooking equipment and cups, etc. And in need of a good clean, upgrade of furniture. But it's a backpackers so not being too hard on them. Gets 4 stars for the reason

Staff made us feel very welcome from the first greeting. Ross also took care of our booking to do the crossing and gave us some tips on other stuff to do around. Really appreciated that. Very very clean place, big kitchen and common area. Quiet at night, just the corridor is a little loud. Footsteps will wake you up. Overall one of the better places we stayed at so far (four months travelling). Will miss Jess. Bye Jess!

Cool that these guys have a dry sauna, free coffee and have the kitchen open so late. Not so cool that the double matress we slept on should've been binned long ago. Id slept on the ground (no mat or anything) while camping a few days earlier and could genuinely say it was more comfortable. The matress was just hard springs. Layered 2 towels, all the bedding and my sleeping bag over it to try and stop the springs from digging into my back. So yeah think maybe you guys should replace some of your mattresses or charge less for double rooms

Good hostel. Warm and nice at night thanks to some floor heating. Big kitchen with all the pans and everything you need to cook. Free spices and lemons. Really secure. The gate for the parking closed at 4pm. 5min walk from Taupo CBD and from the lake. Only bad point was the insulation which is close from zero.

amazing place... we had a double room. the showers are clean and toilets aswell. the kitchen is cleaned frequently and also it us possible to wash and dry your clothes there. they store your luggage if needed and the service in general is very friendly and very helpful ! bike rental is also available. the internet is very good !

Amazing place for single people, couples and a group of friends. Very clean, loads of amenities, friendly staff and great vibes. Great location!!!

Really friendly staff the bedrooms are great and the only place nicer than this would be a 5 star motel. Rooms smell really nice. The only downside is that the WiFi can sometimes be a bit unreliable and no live TV :) Kitchen and lounge facilities are cleaned very thoroughly. Ample off street parking. Room has a hole in the wall above the top bunk however.

Place was alright, it had a chill hippie vibe to it. However two of my other dorm mates were extremely noisy until 4am every night smoking weed on the porch and would come in and out talking and shouting and slamming the door, the worst part is one of them was staff there too. There was one nice staff member who I think was Scottish who was often at reception who was helpful and welcoming

Stayed here for a night, we were supposed to stay 2 nights but unfortunately the weather was really wet so we couldn't do a lot of the activities in Taupo. The Scottish guy working there was really helpful and refunded our second night so we can come back and use it again when we are doing Tongariro. Nice Hostel, clean and they have a nice little sauna. Staff are helpful and location is great!

Very impressed with this Backpackers Motel in Tapou! Most reasonably priced for what you get complete with underfloor heating in rooms etc ...I will be back!!

Had actually forgotten I had stayed here some years ago and even got the exact same room the second time round. The shower head which I mentioned was broken the first time I stayed was still broken when staying again. Quite hard to tell who is a guest and who is staff, when I did eventually find someone they were friendly and helpful. Rear car park is very tight so if travelling in a large car and looking for secure parking you may struggle here. If you are just after a room and somewhere to sleep at a cheap rate then this is your place

I had a really great 2 night stay - as a solo female traveller I felt comfortable and safe at all times. The lodge is located about 10-15 minute walk from town. All activities can be planned/arranged from the front desk. The lovely fella running the place (am sorry but I didn't catch his name) was incredibly helpful and answered all the questions I bombarded him with. He even gave me a lift to the i-site to catch my bus - top notch friendly service. I'm coming from back for sure. I took a double room w private bathroom - bed and pillow were comfy and the bathroom was everything I needed. Good pressure and hot.

Great atmosphere. Comfortable accommodation with easy access to cooking and cleaning facilities. Has a lovely dog called Jess you can keep company. Would definitely recommend for any length of stay in Taupo.

A great hostel to stay in. The staff are amazing, very friendly and helpful. Walking distance to the city centre. Bike hire available. Wifi can be touch and go. Large kitchen and communal area with outdoor seating and off street parking. The lodge could definitely do with a face lift and more working washing machines.

AMAZING! One of my best backpacker in New Zealand. The room are nice and the kitchen is very good. Perfect place to go to Huka Falls and Taupo town centre.

This was one of our favorite hostels in New Zealand. Big kitchen, free food, nice staff and comfy rooms and beds. We have been here in low season and got a room for an unbeatable price! Loved it!

Really basic accommodations, you get what you pay for and little more, but it does the job. We booked an ensuite double room, and linen was provided, but no towels in sight. Very thin walls/door so expect to hear noise from your neighbours - not that unusual for a hostel-type accommodation. Unless you're a backpacker looking for that type of atmosphere, would probably recommend staying elsewhere.

Great spot if you’re looking for a nice chill vibe. Kitchen facilities were well stocked with loads of free spices, however it was a bit annoying that it was closed from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Perhaps cleaning could be done before or after peak lunch time. The dog made up for it though - 5 stars for Jess.

A great place to be in a wicked town. Owner has his head screwed on and keeps the place up to a great standard. Stayed a few night but would happily stay for weeks. Plus the resident doggo (Jess) puts the cherry on this chilled clean and affordable home for travellers. Will be back.

Yes this place is very good compared to other backpacker places. Ross the owner was excellent and made us all feel very welcome. I would recommend staying here. I stayed in a three bed room which was almost like, a hotel room. There are other size rooms if you don't mind sharing with other people. 👍

Amazing hostel. This is place is really clean and has a family vibe that makes you feel like you're home. Great attention by the staff and the owners, i forget some mail there and they happily left it in the post shop so i can have it after i left. Highly recommended!

Very nice place. It is close to the supermarket, free Hot Springs, ... They got so many free spices in the kitchen that every Backpacker can have something tasty again. They also got a dog which you can take for a walk and explore with him the beautiful Taupo.

Ross the owner was a brilliant host and even offers a collection & drop off service from bus stops etc. Clean rooms, large kitchen and Communal area, with activities most evenings to make guests feel welcome and included. Jess the dog was an added bonus!

Good vibe in this place between both staff and other travelers who stayed there during my 2 days. It contains tv rooms with load of DVD's and also sky. There is a pretty big kitchen with all the amenities you want and lots of seating room. There is also some nice outside seating areas. On slight negative some of it can feel slightly dated, some of the taps didn't work and hot water didn't work for 1 of the showers. W-fi is global gossip so $4 a day. I still recommend staying here if it in Taupo

Nice place, quiet and tidy, stoked with the room and the parking. However it was a task and a half getting the trailer into the parking lot. Staff are great to deal with, will 100% stay again. Thank you for being accommodating.

It is such a great place to stay in! The people there are great! The rooms have showers and bathrooms. There are showers and bathrooms everywhere. There is a big kitchen where you meet a lot of wonderful people and great friends! Its close to the downtown area!

Such a nice hostel with a good vibe. Best to sit out on the deck and in the social areas. I found it clean and friendly- lots of good advice on local trips!!

The kitchen/common area was swarming with flies. No attempts were being made to get rid of them while I was there. Bathrooms were reasonably clean. Staff was very very friendly and helpful.

Really good and clean hostel. Amazing kitchen where you actually can cook, BBQ area outside. Sauna and bike hire available.

Good people. Confortable beds and rooms. Good location. Parking spots. Nice kitchen. Only downside is that to get from some rooms to the common room/kitchen/tv room, you had to open a bunch of doors and go outside.

If you are going to Taupo this is a must stay in. From all hostels we stayed in north island this was the best one. Clean, tide, very friendly staff (hands down to Jess, the best of the best staff around new zealand), hot showers, big kitchen, small rooms but not a problem, close to Lake Taupo and city centre, bikes hires on site, cinema night's, bbq outside, always something going on, if the the weather doesn't help you, which it's commun in NZ you will find sth to make your staying more pleasurable at rainbow lodge. It's hard to think about sth negative at this place. Once again, once in taupo go to the rainbow lodge.

It is possible to book private room with private bathroom here. Tea and coffee available on reception. Kitchen with all you need for cooking. Good Wi-Fi. Parking. Everything I needed. Recommend.

Tom kate and ross are all very friendly. The beds and pillows were the most comfortable ive had at any hostel in new zealand. The atmosphere is nice and the sauna is a bonus.

The hostel isn't half bad, but the internet... using WAP or FAX would be quicker to get information across. It could do with more showers and toilets (or convert them all to unisex). We had a double for a night and my comments on the room: PROS: • Nice firm mattress with clean linnen • multiple wall outlets (at very unfortunate locations) • towel railing (though they don't supply towels) CONS: • single bedside table for a double bed • no reading lamp(s) • unexplainable hole in the floor, where I stubbed my toe (it looks like a vent of some sort)

Really well equiped kitchen and clean rooms. The water pressure in the shower was super low and the wager temperature was not stable.

Il personale è gentilissimo e le docce davvero ottime, probabilmente le migliori che ho trovato in un ostello. Dalla reception è possibile prenotare diversi tour e attività a Taupo e dintorni, era esempio il Tongariro alpine crossing. Un po' lontano dall'i-site, 8-10 minuti a piedi. A 5 minuti c'è un supermercato aperto fino alle 10 di sera

Schlafen folglich sehr unbequem. Müssten dringend ausgetauscht werden!
