L.We booked to stay in this little hotel and had no idea what to expect. We were delighted with our lovely room including of all things the old post office vault as our shower room! Lovely comfortable bed and pillows. Really quiet in our room. Downstairs a choice of 2 restaurants, either the Bistro or Italian dining. We booked the Italian. The service was impeccable but very comfortable and friendly. Wait staff had great knowledge of food and drinks and really went the extra mile. We would recommend this little hotel if you like comfort and a great dining experience.
A.A quiet one night stay, started with being unable to book the restaurant as it was closed from covid close contact staff shortages place of interest.
Luckily the Italian bar is open so we had a simple mushroom risotto and eggplant parmigiana, they were delish.
Bed was already a bit old, we felt the wave under us and the night was rather unrestful because the room didn’t go totally dark with the light behind our bed head from outside as the curtain wasn’t a blackout one.
Design flaws were apparent in the hotel. Perhaps they had to work with minimal budget and constraint of the building heritage nature.
Interesting materials chosen for the shower room joineries that rusted over time. It’s a pity as the concept was great but execution not so.
Didn’t take pictures as it felt very menial admits everything that was happening in the northern hemisphere.
Trying to watch TV from the bed was totally impossible, and since there are two of us, we had to fight over who gets the very uncomfortable chair in front of the TV...
My interior design eyes kept saying, it could’ve been so much better, I’m quietly disappointed.
S.This review is for the restaurant. Ive been here a few times now and the menu is different every time. Amazing and unique meals, perfect for special occasions. Attention to detail and flavour profiles that surprise and delight you. The service has been very good, attentive but not over bearing. I got off to a sticky start with The Clarence when they first opened. They lost my reservation and didn't handle it well. However they have done a great job of winning my loyalty from subsequent visits. The menu here is a step above anything else I've seen in Tauranga in recent times and its well worth a visit.
M.Clarence Bistro has a great ambience and you can enjoy really good food. We had the 5 course tasting menu, which is good value. We didn't think all the dishes had good balance but that might be personal taste.
Unfortunately they dropped the ball with their service half way through. We had complimentary snacks delivered, but then a main course arrived immediately on top of that. Then we were left completely unattended for 25-30 minutes after those plates were cleared before a the first dessert course was delivered.
Something else to be aware of is that the Bistro is off to the left side of the main entrance of the bar. And from the outside it is a bit hard to find.
N.Have dined in the bistro several times. Never disappoints. Great food, friendly staff and excellent cocktails. Highly recommend.

M.Had an amazing evening here for a friend's birthday. Right from the start in the bar, the staff were engaging and on point, this carried on through the night. Delicious cocktails, a comprehensive wine list and 8 courses of deliciousness later we were all well sated.
Justine and Perrin, our two servers, became our fast friends as the night went on. Couldn't fault the service or the level of care and talent that had gone into the dishes.
This isn't a cheap place to eat, you certainly won't be adding it to a regular restaurant rotation unless you're made of money, but for an occasion particularly it was money well spent.

A.Cannot fault it. Excellent food, service, atmosphere. Liked the way the Chef came to the table and detailed the food we were about to eat. Good portion size too.. not to lean, not to much.. just right. Well done. Recommended restaurant.

L.I love Bar Centrale! Love the food, building, décor and friendly staff. Lately we have been going for breakfast. Not sure if many people know this is an option, but would highly recommend! Great coffee and delicious pastries! Cannot wait for our next visit!

S.What a find ! Perfect location and a cool retro luxury aesthetic. Good to see the old Post Office being put to good use. We dined in at the bar and loved all of it. The closest we’ll come to actually being in Italy for quite a while probably. The room was spacious and the facilities flawless. We’ve already booked our next stay - it’s everything a boutique hotel should be.
N.Incredible!! Awesome staff , amazing pizza and the chips with rosemary and parmesan are worth the trip into town alone. Probably the best service I have had in 38 years of living in tauranga.

Staff were friendly and the hotel was in a perfect spot to walk to the wharf or take the motor way to the Mount. The highlight would have to be the cocktails at the bar though. We would be coming again next time and try out the bistro!
P.Excellent food and service. The staff are attentive and seem genuine happy in their interactions with both patrons and staff. The steak I ordered was cooked perfectly and I could not fault the food. We will be back. Thx for a great evening.
S.My friend and I had lunch at the Bistro today. Our meals were absolutely delicious & the service especially from our Waitress was A1. She was gorgeous, friendly and just awesome.
P.Went for dinner on Wednesday night this week for my partners birthday. We were very well treated from the moment we walked in. We had a lovely French host who impressively remembered the details of our order and special dietary change requests.
The food was absolutely outstanding in terms of size, quality, freshness and taste. The restaurant was busy, but the staff never looked stressed or rushed and still managed to check in during each course to see if we were satisfied with our meals.

R.Restaurant has great atmosphere, food and wine was wonderful. The venison starter was super tender and the 55 day aged eye steak was superb. Would gladly visit again, which is sadly a little challenging since we live in the UK.
M.What a stylish new bar/restaurant. The decor lighting at the bar is very cool. The most yummy dumplings.. too good I had to order more, the sauce with it was so delicious. Staff were very chatty and the service was very attentive, I definitely would be back again.

J.Beautiful food, wonderful attentive staff. We had dinner at the Clarence restaurant - was absolutely perfect. Cant wait to go back and try the other menu in the bar. The upstairs rooms are luxurious! They have done such a fabulous job upgrading the post office Building. Its a must to go have a drink or dinner their.

A.Had a meal here tonight to celebrate our 38th anniversary. We have eaten here on a number of occasions before. The setting is great but tonight the service and food were disappointing. Firstly were were brought another table's Entrees. My entrée was venison which was lovely but so tiny it was completely lost on the full size dinner plate. For main course my wife had lamb and whilst this was well presented the lamb was seriously under seasoned. The most disappointing thing was the dessert. My wife had Petit Fours and I had a cheese dish. I have to say that I have been to many restaurants and had hand made Petit Fours and they have never looked so unappealing and disappointing as these. My tiny little cheese thingy was $21 and quite frankly miniscule and bland. So as i came to pay my bill which was $219 for the two of us the waiter who was wearing a brown pinny and wore specs and a beard was very quick to take our payment and couldn't even ask how our meal was. i have been in the customer service industry all my life and have owned a hospitality business, My son was a head chef before leaving the industry. Value is the most important thing not price, they are quite different. and I am afraid that this just wasn't value and the service impersonal.
J.Honestly the best steak I have had in my life. I have had alot in my time and I feel any steak I have had since just doesn't even come close. It melts in your mouth and would highly recommend if you want fine dining and great waiting. Overall was a perfect experience
W.The food and presentation was excellent 10 out of 10 and the service was good too. This restaurant was recommended by Tremains real estate who gave Alison a voucher. It was a pleasure to dine in here tonight with my sisters who helped with shifting Alison.

R.Great new venue! Food was next level, service was great, decor was interesting but worked quite well, however you are definitely paying for that premium dining experience but I think Tauranga needed a venue like this. Well worth checking out!

A.Awesome atmosphere, and food was great! We dined outside which was perfect on this warm evening. Had a mojito to start which was really well done, could taste the rum and not too much soda water. Calamari for starter was delish, pork belly for main was my fav and our lovely waiter matched it with a nice Sav, and the tofu chocolate mousse for dessert was nice and bitter. Will definitely be back!

K.Where do I start, the bed is the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. The rooms are super stylish, gorgeous art. Even their tea and coffee is lovely. The staff are very helpful and the restaurant downstairs is delicious I will be back here again. Very highly recommend
P.Fabulous new place in town. Went for a night out with my parents, husband and baby a few weeks ago. They were really great at reserving us a table with enough space for a pram. The food was faultless and very warm staff, not pretentious at all. I live in Australia but if I lived in Tauranga I would be there regularly! Just what Tauranga was needing. I know my parents will be regulars.

D.We turned right into the bistro area for a light lunch. I had pork wontons served in a steam stack with minutely chopped peanuts. The waitress (quite correctly) asked if I was OK with spicy hot food to which I said that I was. And so it was, but didn't stop me enjoying some of JAC's lightly toasted pineapple on a wonderful bed of al tende creamed rice. The Staff were quick and attentive. All together a very fine dining experience in the old Post and Telegraph building in Tauranga.
G.Clarence's Bar - Iki was justoutstanding. With vibrant decor, the best service in the bay and stunning asian street food it is sure to please. We were a group of 10 in for drinks and food and had such a great overall experience we've all vowed to make it our regular.

T.The old Tauranga Post Office has been lovingly restored into a boutique hotel with a cocktail bar and fine dining restaurant. The rooms are well appointed and modern. The restaurant is a great take on Italian while the cocktail bar serves great drinks and Asian fusion food.

Lamb rump taste combinations devine - not to mention the Pina Colada Pannacotta desert sensation. Clarence is our new number 1 place to dine in Tauranga. We will be back....

A.A truely enjoyable stay at the hotel. I stayed 1 night for work while travelling to Tauranga. Arrived fairly late but was welcomed with a freindly smile from all the staff.. Dinner was beautiful, the rump steak was made to perfect and the side of carrots is a must. The rooms are stylish and the decor is all modern with a touch of the old. Its definetly a fresh take on the usual hotels in Tauranga. I would recommend it 100% to visit. The old Post Building looks amazing.. Great job guys 👍

Ich geh gerne dort essen. Ich kann das Bistro und die Bar empfehlen. Klasse Küche, guter Service (die Bar ist mit asiatiacher Küche ausgestattet und für den kleineren Gelbeutel, das Bistro lädt für gehobenere Abende ein).
Hab beide Plätze des öfteren Besucht und bin nie enttäuscht worden
