G.I just spent one weekend here, but the place is lovely! Great views, they upgrade our room, so thanks for it!! That was lovely. The bathroom and shower were clean, and they had parking available. I will definitely come back!
E.Definitely the best hostel experience of my life! Ian is an amazing host and owner on reception! The kitchen is very homey, lots to use to cook or bake anything you like, a nice walk into town to all the shops and lakefront and some restaurants! The living room has amazing views as always and very spacious for eating and socializing. The dorm room I stayed in was great, the bed was very comfortable and had a sink in the room and lots of toilets and showers around to use.
Overall 11/10 experience

N.Wanaka Bakpakas is one of those special hostels that gets everything right. It is large, with excellent kitchen, dining, and chill-out zones. It has a decent laundry with both machine and outside lines for drying. Also, there are great weekly rates, friendly residents, comfortable beds, regular cleaning and a marvelous wood fire. You're more likely to be too hot than too cold in winter, even in the rooms. The only thing missing is a cat, but there are plenty of people around to make friends with instead.
I.Good facilities with a massive open kitchen. Perfect hostel for solo travellers to mingle with others on the road. Ian is very friendly and an honest host who looks out for the backpackers.
C.Really lovely hostel that's good for meeting other travelers and seeing Wanaka. Decently located.... up a hill and a wee-bit out of town, but not bad walk! And being a little out of the "hustle and bustle" made it quiet at night. Good view of the lakefront. Good size kitchen.

L.Excellent hostel, chilled but full of friendly faces. I was fortunate enough to have my room upgraded at no extra cost. Hot showers, lovely clean and spacious kitchen. Beautiful views of the lake and outdoor dining and social ing area. Excellent location just 10 mins out of the main town but easily walkable. Would highly recommend.
J.Great warm backpackers with an excellent view overlooking the lake. The place was brilliant to sit and read a book while looking out. The hosts were welcomeling and friendly. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and kept clean. The rooms was nice and the beds were okay. The shower did lack a lot of pressure and there was no soap to accompany the bathroom sink. Those are only minor for what was a really enjoyable stay.

K.Slept here for two nights, this hostel has really good and really bad sides. Good: the room was amazing, awesome beds with a stunning view over the lake. The kitchen was very big, with free tea, coffee, sugar and spices. The staff was very friendly. There were a few parking lots in front of the hostel and some down by the lake, no problem to park. Bad sides: the WiFi was sometimes extremely slow, sometimes fast, very unsafe and not secured. Additionally everybody only had 1GB per day for free, they wanted you to pay for everything else. The Bathrooms were also kind of bad, they had a few excellent ones, but the ones on my floor were not really modern. All in all a good hostel with an amazing view
S.Great place to stay at, near the city centre - less than 10 min walk near the lake. I loved the big windows in the living room (and in my room!) offering an amazing view over the lake. Big kitchen and friendly people.
I rented a mountain bike for a day and enjoyed the amazing easy track just near by (ask the staff!).
D.This Hostel is a little bit remote from the city centre but it has a wonderful view over the lake from the living room, the patio, the Garden and the balcony that led to our room. Although Wanaka in general is not a cheap place this hostel is worth it. We totally enjoyed four nights here. We fell in love with Wanaka.
S.One of the best hostels in NZ. The common area is so inviting and comfortable. The kitchen is big and well equipped. We got a free upgrade the first night and loved the double room with lakeside view so much we stayed there another night! Definitely recommendable!

It is located in a central location near the city centre and offers breathtaking views over the mountains. Highly recommended.
M.Great stay. We had the twin bed room. The only downside was the thin walls. When someone decided to wake up early to shower, we were basically woken up from the sounds they were making. Outside of that, everything else was absolutely wonderful.

+ The bunk beds are comfy and solid wood
+ the kitchen is big and well stocked with multiple hobs, microwaves and dishes - they even allow you to use lemons from their tree and herbs from the garden.
+ The living area is spacious and cosy with a wood fire and 360 views of the lake
+ The vibe is less party hostel and more guesthouse, which makes it more accessible to travelers of all ages
I disagree with the review left below about cleanliness, the bathrooms and facilities were well maintained when I was staying. I also think 1GB free WiFi per day is actually not worth taking a star off. This was a friendly, central and very cosy hostel and I highly recommend it to travelers.
C.First time I stayed here was great. Warm and hot shower, great kitchen storage space for your food. The longe has a lot of chairs but it was so busy one night we couldn’t find a seat. Close to town, maybe a 10-20 min walk. The second time we stayed wasn’t as good because the double mattress was dipped in the middle and during the night I kept rolling into the middle. Provided a towel which is amazxing! Reception lady was lovely.

C.Only stayed here for one night to do the Roys Peak track (10 min drive from the hostel). Very friendly staff, clean rooms, large common area, and was nice and quiet. Located just out of the Main Street but still very close to shops and has Lake Wanaka views.
D.Lovely clean and smart hostel. Well equipped modern kitchen which is kept tidy by the guest's. Free WiFi (up to 500mb/day) which is really fast compared to most free WiFi at other hostels. Bike rental available and threw free computers for the guest's to use. Also it's about a 10 minute walk to town. Would recommend to all ages
L.Prime spot to stay, amazing panoramic views over the lake and out to the mountains!! Just sit in the lounge and watch the world go by. Short walk to the happening centre of Wanaka. AN ACCOMMODATION TREAT!! 👍👍
C.This was the best hostel we've been to in New Zealand! Sprawling complex with lots of tucked away rooms and big windows. The kitchen is huge and there are bathrooms at every turn. It's a short walk along the waterfront to downtown Nelson.
S.This was excellent right from checking in. Clean; tidy; helpful staff. Clean kitchen. Superb lounge overlooking lake. Car parks right there and relatively secure as well off the street. Will stay there next time and have recommended it. Bike hire for a 24 hour period was helpful. Lock and helmet supplied. Walk to lake for a swim. Superb!

J.Great accoms with a great view facing the Wanaka lake. The rooms and linen are clean, and the air conditioning is working great too. Shared toilets and showers are clean. However the sinks in the toilets are a bit too small if you are intending to wash your face.

It has a Lounge with a great view aboth the lake, a good kitchen with a lot of good stuff, free, fresh herbs, clean and bright shower that you just share with two other rooms.
The people were really nice and Wanaka is lovely aswell.

L.Great views. Clean. Good kitchen nice touch with the fresh herbs. Not too far of a walk to town. Only downfall is limited internet. Really annoying when u have heaps of photos to load and catch up with friends and family after a trip or just get an early night and watch netflix and your internet only last 5 minutes
S.Wanaka bakpaka is such a beautiful and welcoming hostel, perfect to relax, rejuvenate and watch the sun set on the lake. The staff are lovely, facilities are immaculate and there is a huge kitchen with fresh herbs to cook delicious food. The kind of place that makes you want to slow down and enjoy the bliss of Wanaka.

l.The best backpacker in wanaka. I stay in this place everytime I come to visit Wanaka. There's a breathtaking lake view at the lounge and sometimes I can stay in a room with view and just cost 34$. Friendly and helpful staff.Extra clean public area and room. Free and 10G fast wifi is provided too.

A.Even if I didn't stayed here it was just amazing. I messed up my booking and the hostel was fully booked. The staff helped me to find another hostel and even gave me a ride. The atmosphere was just like coming home. So amazing!
P.Extraorndinary friendly staff, very nice atmosphere, clean and good cooking facilities. The living room is an amazing place with a great view on the lake. You can stay there for a couple of days and relax or do some cool hiking acitivities like the Rob Roys glacier or the Roys peak hike. If youre more lazy as I was during this stay just do the Mt Iron Walk :-)

R.I've stayed here a few times and really like it over the in-town YHA. Previously we stayed in the twin with ensuite, which is located in the redish building. This time we we put in the brown building out back. This one has paper thin walls and we were put in a twin room right beside a toilet. Because the walls were so thin, we could hear every pee, wipe and flush. Unfortunately did not have a good stay this time.
The doors lock automatically, which were weren't told, and I accidently locked my son out and went to sleep. He was pretty peeved because he couldn't get to bed.
Good 100mb free wifi is available per device per day. Costs a small amount if you want more.
View is spectacular. Kitchen and common rooms are well organised.

I.Great view from common area. Eating dinner under the stars. Free computers, free wifi 500MB, common area and the kitchen were pretty, and very nice staff. I will stay here, if I come back to wanaka.
R.Extremely comfortable and clean compared to most backpackers I've stayed at. It almost feels like you're staying in someone's house. Cosy sitting area as well with up to 400mb free wifi if you switch between the 4 wifi channels.
