M.Fantastic staff, very friendly. The hostel is modern, tastefully decorated, rooms are great and the beds are too. You can make your own sleeping space very cosy with the curtains. Amazing and well equipped kitchen, free coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Let's not even mention the superb location! Definitely will be staying again! Thanks lovely French reception guy, you're a gem!

B.Best hostel I've stayed in! Staff were 11/10. Lovely kitchen, with plenty of room in the fridges. If you need to do some work theres plenty of space to get the laptop out and be on your own. Living room on each floor with TV, sofas and lots of light. Would recommend for any type of visitor or group.

G.Great hostel! One of the best I’ve ever stay! Pod style you get your privacy when you’re sleeping. Everything is nicely done. Kitchen is amazing that offer hot chocolate, tea and coffee! Not many hostel does that! Plenty of Shower and toilet , two big lounge with big tv! Just very relaxing!

A.Really great accommodation for a few days, right in the center of Wellington which is what we wanted so we didn’t have to walk everywhere for ages.
When we stayed here a few months ago, the hostel wasn‘t super busy, which gave it a nice and relaxed atmosphere in all the shared spaces. Our double room was really beautiful, the bed was comfy and everything was clean.
Only downside I would say for the double room is that the ceiling is either quite thin OR the people staying in the room above ours were stomping around and talking much louder than normal. Either way, there were earplugs provided, so you‘ll not miss out on sleep.
When we arrived the kind receptionist also let us park in the back and we just left our keys with him in case someone needed to move their car out from that space there. I thought that was a really thoughtful service and it saved us the hassle from having to find a parking spot outside the hostel.
Overall, a really good place to stay with TV corner, nice kitchen and good bathrooms 👍🏻

M.Unfortunately, we had to cancel less than 24hrs before our stay due to a level 4 lockdown. We incurred no charges due to The Marion's very good and generous policy around Covid related cancellations. Far better than most other accommodation providers I know of. Noah was absolutely wonderful to deal with. Super quick to respond, helpful and friendly. We hope to be able to stay in the near future. I would highly recommend them. They deserve your business, especially in these times.
C.By far one of the best hostels I've stayed in! Me and a friend stayed here for the ANZAC long weekend. Beautifully modern hostel, very clean EVERYWHERE. Gui was very helpful in making sure our stay was excellent. Reccomended bars and restaurants to us. Ideally located right in the city center, so only a few minutes from pretty much everything. Will definitely be staying here again the next time I'm back down in Welly
R.Awesome location in a fresh building. Clean and generous bathrooms. My only fault was a lack of guard rails on the upper bunks so it is possible to roll out & fall if you’re a rough sleeper. Helpful staff and free bike hire were great!
F.One of the best Backpackers I've been in my life. The beds are comfortable, with curtains for better privacy, showers are amazing, kitchen is also very nice, everything was clean and Noah, the staff member, was brilliant. I'm pretty sure I'll be back.
n.We had a lovely stay in Marion Hostel last weekend. Gee was particularly awesome and had assist us during the entire stay (he had helped us with the extra blankets as well as letting us replacing our towels for a second time!). The rooms was lovely. The hallways and entire block were aesthetic, what a beauty. Wellington is lucky to have this hostel! Wish to come back here again someday.

The whole building has clearly been designed for travellers, big common areas and great facilities, showers that actually get you wet!

The hostel was perfectly clean, so modern, spacious, you feel like home in the middle of Wellington.

R.Great location with clean and comfy rooms. The showers are really nice and the beds are great. One downside is that the walls are paper thin so if you have noisy neighbors, they may wake you and everyone else in your room up at 3 a.m. The hostel is lovely though so just be smart and bring earplugs!
G.Outstanding, on of the top three I've stayed in the World. Great location, great staff (Gui was superb), excellent kitchen facilities, excellent security, and the best of all - the bunks are SOLID. You can't feel your bunkies movement AT ALL. Great blackout curtains surrounding each bunk for privacy, complete with a light / socket / USB for each bed space. Great rec spaces as well. The only pain is parking, but that's not their fault. I'll be back.
J.This hostel has thought of everything, it is super modern and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The beds are amazing, comfortable, electric, USB, curtains, light. The staff are fantastic, probably the best I've experienced. They are professional, friendly, informative, helpful and go the extra mile. You won't be disappointed staying at the marion. Final mention: great water in shower, super fast wifi and modern kitchen with great tea and coffee.

M.Can’t rate this Hostel high enough. Just spent 3 nights here with my children and the place had the most Friendly vibe. Cleanliness was really good and I am a Mother who likes things clean.😉 The Hostel staff were Amazing. A Big Shout to Noah he’s a Gem. My Boys can’t stop talking about him the most be because he let my boys win when playing Cantan......
S.We made last minute reservations to stay at The Marion for the Six60 concert. We absolutely loved it there! The facilities were clean, beds were comfortable, the common areas were well stocked with games, comfy couches, TV’s etc. It is central to everything, you can walk, scooter or bike around the city easily. Noah and the long term residents were awesome too! They always checked in on us and made sure we were okay. We will definitely be checking into the Marion on our next trip to Welly 😁

M.Had a lovely weekend at The Marion greeted by Noah and shown around. A nice big room with ensuite that is a rare thing private entry and security with keycard access and nice private sunny room! Huge communal kitchen and really lovely high ceilings! The stairs and people can be noisy and only got woken once which is why only 4 stars but I still enjoyed the place! Meeting other travellers is nice too! It was a very busy weekend and the staff seemed calm about it all! So a close walk to shops in Cuba street and the ugly bagel(yum)! Very good place to stay and was clean and beautiful atmosphere ! I highly recommend it!

L.Amazing hostel. Literally felt so comfortable and clean. The environment is so welcoming and they have so many amenities that make it feel like more like home less like a hostel. I stayed in a shared room and each bed has plenty of storage, a curtain for privacy, it's own charging port right next to the bed, and personal reading lights! There are also bikes to hire for free which was a great service I wish I had known about beforehand! Plenty of friendly people all around. Really enjoyed my time here.

Falicities are amazing, everythings clean the whole day, beds are super cool and most importantly the girls at reception are the nicest! My last days in New Zealand were there and it was amazing :) hopefully i will come back for a visit next time!
S.This hostel is just amazing! Great amenities and a relaxed vibe with touches of character. Noah was super attentive and helpful when I arrived. My only downside has to do with the parking. I left my car parked on Marion street and it got broken into. I would suggest paying the small fee for overnight parking at the Taranaki street multilevel.

The whole place is really clean and quiet, wifi is good, two lounge areas has Netflix and big tvs and the staff is great 🤩 also the kitchen is big, spacious and well equipped.

The places is extremely clean and the staff is just amazing and friendly. The location is also pretty nice because is not far away from Cuba st where you find a lot of food, bars and stores. I think if hostels will be rate it like hotels I will give this one 5/5 stars. They do have hairdryers and straighteners in the bathrooms and available in reception as well. They also have towels for hire if you need any. Having the privacy curtains is amazing and a luxury! I totally love that from here! I keep going to Wellington often so I think I have find a really nice place to stay each time I go. Kitchen close around 10pm, but only the cooking area, you can still prepare tea or get stuff from the fridge/ store drawers if you need it.
The only thing that I would say, if you have light sleep, be aware that the walls are thin and you can heard the noises from the room next door or people walking in the halls. I do have a heavy sleep, so I don’t have that issue, but I can see how that can be a problem for other people. Just be prepare with some earplugs and you should be fine since is not loud noises.
J.One of the nicest hostels I’ve stayed in, definitely worth the extra money for some luxury. Dorms and beds were comfortable, power outlets by beds and large locker underneath. Kitchen was big, clean and well equipped. Roof terrace is a cool place to chill. WiFi could be better is only criticism!

It is perfectly in the heart of the CBD while being quiet and lovely inside. I will never stay anywhere else on trips to Welly from now on.
E.Best hostel I stayed at throughout my NZ trip. Super friendly and helpful staff, that helped arrange a lower bunk bed for me as I was travelling on a broken foot. (Only downside was no lift, so did have to climb a couple sets stairs, but this was manageable!)
Clean rooms, full curtain on beds (although mine did not have one on the head side in front of the window, and there are no curtains or blinds in rooms, but luckily I'm an easy sleeper). Comfy mattress, and they provide a towel. Each bed has a light and power point. Walls were a bit thin. Really nice bathrooms, with some of the best showers I had (good height, and good pressure!) TV rooms with Netflix and sofas, and a rooftop lounge area. Worth the extra couple $, and would definitely return.

It's very clean and modern. There are multiple lounge areas as well as a rooftop deck. The deck is perfect for hanging out on with some of the excellent local micro-brew. The location is ideal.
One feature that really made this my first choice hostel was that each bunk has its own privacy curtains. I think this makes a huge difference and isn't something I found while looking at other hostels in town.
What really sets the Marion apart though, are the exceptional people that run the place. Brent and Tamsi were very helpful, from happily showing me the facilities before I booked a stay, to recommendations for great food and things to see/do. They even allowed me to store some extra luggage here while I went and explored the south island for a week! This was a great help to me and I really appreciated them going out of their way. I will definitely stay here again. If you're looking for a cool hostel I'm confident you won't regret staying here either.
J.Place is a little pricey, but they make up for it in so many ways. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Facilities are fantastic, clean and big kitchen, clean bathrooms, comfortable beds, beds have have a curtain for privacy. Pretty good location, easy walk to lots of sights. Had several television rooms, good social areas and a rooftop lounge. Real nice spot, I recommend and I would stay here again.

J.One of the best hostels I've stayed at. It's clean, small and really social so that it feels like a home. Many long term guests that are helpful with recommendations as where to go and things to do. The showers are some of the nicest I've used in a hostel and each bed has a privacy curtain that goes all the way around which is very much appreciated. Location is a one minute walk from the heart of Cuba street.

J.They only got 2nd for the best hostel in Oceania but they should have won in my opinion. Very friendly staff and the facilities are maintained very well. Would definitely recommend to other people and will be coming back.
B.I only stayed at the Marion for two nights, but it was a great experience. My flight got in late and I didn't make it to the hostel until well after midnight. However, the late check-in procedure was a breeze and I had no issues with accessing my key/ room. I stayed in an 8 bedroom mixed dorm and was pretty pleased with it. The curtains on the bed are a huge plus! The only downside was construction was going on RIGHT outside our window and I was woken up relatively early. Still, this wasn't the fault of the hostel. The staff at the reception desk the next morning were helpful and friendly. Shared facilities were very clean and tastefully decorated. I would highly recommend this hostel to anyone traveling through Wellington!
J.The hostel was located in a great location! Not too far away from much. The service was fantastic, very nice people there and the rooms had lockers of their own along with curtains for each individual bed. Another great touch was that the beds we're assigned with the cars preventing any confusion. Very clean place and I would definitely go back.
I would also recommend going to the restaurant Mr. Go which is only a 4 minute walk from the hostel while here if you are looking to go somewhere for dinner!

E.A really clean hostel, felt very safe there and the service was really fantastic but the layout of the hostel was quite overwhelming and didn't allow for easy friend making? It seemed the long-termers knew each other well so a good place if you plan on working but didn't seem to have the "backpacker soul" whatever that is. Also note: there is no elevators and loud music is contantly playing in the kitchen, so if you have trouble climbing stairs you can't accsess the common rooms and if you are sensitive to noise it may not be a great choice.
F.I can't recommend this hostel enough. Great beds, rooms, lounge area, rooftop area and kitchen. All clean and comfortable.
I spent Christmas here, an important time for Backpackers as being away from family during the festivities can be tough. Brent and his lovely family organised a great Christmas for us where we all pitched in with food and secret santa gifts. They put on a Christmas quiz for us too!
Such great owners who really care about their guests and it really shows as the environment of the hostel is the best I have ever stayed in. Thank you :)

S.Best hostel I have stayed in the world! Beds are SO comfy, each bunk has its own privacy curtains, light and charging point. Excellent location to Cuba Street. Amenities are incredible. Feels like you are staying in a five star hotel for third of the price. Wi-Fi worked all over the building and several TV lounge rooms and a rooftop to chill out on. Worth the extra dollars for the comfort in my opinion. Highly recommend.

I was in a 10-beds dorms, I usually avoid them, but never slept so well !
Kitchen/lounge is large, well equipped and a friendly place to meet people.
Best showers ever, and everything is perfectly clean.
Several lounges, far away from the rooms, make it a convenient place to meet.
You can leave your backpack on departure day in an individual locked box.

And to top it all, very friendly and helpful staff, they love Wellington and are happy to share it with you !
L.Really nice place, the staff have been lovley and it's very clean and tidy. The location is excellent. I have a double room which is nice and private. The walls are pretty thin so there is a reasonable amount of noise from the room next door but this wouldn't put me off coming back. I feel bad for them having to hear me snore!
C.Wow. Great hostel! Everything is so nice and modern! Netflix on the TVs, free bike hire, super nice showers, and the beds are so great! Also, an event pretty much everyday of the week. Two things though, pretty expensive (but that thaaatt bad) and I would say the community wasn’t amazing. I felt like most people kept to themselves and were on their phone which was a bummer. But seriously, everything else was SO nice and new.

C.Awesome hostel. Everything is really fancy. I stayed at a 8 bed dorm and every bed has curtains so you can have privacy. My only problem there was that next to the dorm, there was a TV room, and some guys were listening to music really loud until 6 in the morning. Maybe there should be more control of those situations. But totally recommend it

J.I was staying 3 months in this Hostel, I spent the Lockdown in 2020 and traveled 1 year around New-Zealand, and I can say it : this is the best hostel of all New-Zealand. Clean, design, the price is correct in automn/winter, the localisation is perfect. I recommend it !!
J.The receptionist is very friendly and helpful, you will be able to get much more info from him than search anything on Google. Pretty big kitchen a long w some sitting area. If you choose not to sleep all day then here is a good spot and it is also in the central.
U.Hospitality at par... very friendly host and great facility. a number of places to chill around and Roof top is great. Property is nice tidy clean.
p.Top for cyclist! Fantastic showers, rooms are cool, super bed. The bike can stand inside and it is save. The kitchen is full equiped. All is brand new. Marion is central near to all by walking. Top hostel!!

D.The reception staff is awesome but one of the cleaners was very hostile towards me. Very cute and new but I feel like the kitchen could be better. It just has no space to be or feng shui. Plus I hate induction burners so I never wanted to cook. Never felt like I could talk to anyone there either. Maybe that was just me. They have two giant tv rooms with Netflix and blankets so that's pretty sweet. Best thing is the location
D.If you have been backpacking before, you will be amazed at how clean and modern this place is. Each bunk has it's own curtains, lights and USB point. Multiple lounges, bathrooms and showers & so close to the Cuba St cafés and nightlife.
T.5 stars for The Marion. This modern industrial styled backpackers is highly hospitalable and the friendly attitude of staff seeps true to the guests. The location is in Marion Str in the heart of the CBD, within 2min walk from Cuba str. It holds multiple lounge rooms and an open roof terrace. The kitchen is hygienic. There are plenty bathroom facilities with high-pressure waterfall showers. The rooms are spacious and every bed has a power socket, a bed table and curtains.
In my brief stay at The Marion there was a relaxed and open atmosphere. I've felt welcomed by staff and guests. See you next time Marion.
B.Had a nice stay in the marion. Wooden frame beds so you don't hear people above or below you moving in bed. Clean hostel with helpful staff and trendy theming.
A few downsides on my stay were the walls being paper thin and you could clearly hear the conversations of people next door. The door at the end of the hall closes and clangs so if your in the room or bed closest to the door it can be frustrating. Last there are no hand dryers or paper towels in the bathroom.
Last quick improvement is for the 3rd floor they need to get extra covers or a shade to block the hallway light at night. It blared in your face if your on then top bunk and there was no way to block it.
Overall it was a good stay in a great location close to everything.

Lighty, opened, spacious, lot of windows, design, super-fast free and unlimited wifi, large and confortable bed with privacy and functionnal (curtain, usb plug, light, kind of rack for your stuff), clean. Friendly and available staff.
Rooftop still not accessible but would add a good plus-value to the place.
For now, no real long-term options, they are experimenting the possibility with one room.
To quibble (higher price, higher expectations):
- tiny kitchen (sad when you see how spacious is the place, maybe a choice...), tiny bins, not enough fridge, no microwave. The limits of the kitchen will probably be pretty visible in high-season
- "vertical" sinks in the toilets, design but not functionnal at all, nothing to put your stuff aside too
- some toilets with dryers, some not. No towel system to compensate the ones without
- no hooks in the showers for your stuff (only the biggest ones have a kind of rack)
- no top bed barrier, can be dangerous for some - more agitated - people
- bed ladder a bit small and slippery, if you are tall it could be sportiv
- no lockers in the rooms (for now, should change in a near future)
- all lights always turned on, no possibility to turn off or down by yourself it seems? Not possible to make the common rooms more cozy, darker to watch movies, have more privacy... Almost no curtains at all for the windows currently. Let said that it's more a matter of taste
- common rooms pretty small (as for the kitchen, paradoxical relatively to the global space)
Still a pretty good place to sleep, stay inside without feeling locked up and go out to chill in some place of Wellington. Despite my harsh score (more to offset the current ones), probably one of the best hostel choice on Wellington currently for what you get, with Trek Global, Dwellington and YHA.
T.Best hostel that I have ever been, I used to live for a couple of months there and was beautiful, great staff, kitchen so modern and cute, 8 rooms with curtains!, if you wanna rest and be comfortable is the best place, magical and clean space, highly recommended for everyone! Love it
