S. M.Delighted to have discovered this motel. Easy to find, easy parking, somewhere to park the trailer, friendly staff and spacious grounds. Our unit was spotless and had everything we needed. Full SKY so we could get the radio as well as our favourite TV channels. But best of all was the air con. It was a hot night but we slept really well because of the air con. No hesitation in recommending this motel. VERY good value for money we thought.
A. d. W.Friendly owners. Spacious clean room and shower with soft towels. Yes its a bit dated but everything was super clean and neat and we had flat screen TV with lots of Sky channels. A very pleasant place.

T. O.Very easy to find for non-locals. Very good rates - for a reason. Our unit (8) was clean and well-presented, but the "utilities" were well-worn. The bathroom in particular needed repair. My bed was saggy and lumpy. The place seems to be in the process of a gradual upgrade - and needs it. Beautiful setting. Good service.

I. K.Family room is spacious , has a large kitchen and bedroom, had 1 large bed and 3 single beds plus large dining table and everything you might need in the kitchen
4 stars is because the unit was not up to my cleanliness standard. As soon as I closed the bathroom door , you could see the dust and someones hairs, so the place was not properly vacuumed. Also the bed my mum slept in had a duvet with an old reddish stain on it, which made us hope that was not someone else's blood 🥺

P. P.stayed on a Saturday night busy road but was quiet at night, good beds and relaxed place, yes it's a bit dated but that's part of the charm of the motel unit's, the Manager was very friendly and helpful. close to town and the river, a good place for walking.
N. T. L. S.This place is very functional and nothing special but it's still perfectly fine for a place today. The person on reception was very friendly which was a nice introduction. There are cooking facilities in the rooms a me a separate shower/bathroom/toilet. The decor would have been great in the 80s or 90s but I think that just adds to the charm.

What let it down was a not nice bathroom - old shower with paint peeling off it's ceiling in large chunks. Ceiling of bathroom dirty. Old bathroom sink. The wallpaper in main room needs replacing, very dirty in one part and starting to peel at edges.

John the host was great. The location is relaxing and set right by the river, good for morning walks. Astral is an easy walking distance to town with a nice quite and residential feel. There is some road noise in the front units (1-4) but certainly not noticeable enough to keep you awake. If modern is what you are after then this isn't the place. It is however, clean and tidy and the gardens and grounds are well maintained including the pool. Space on site allows you relax in the sunshine. Certainly somewhere I would stay again especially for larger groups where affordability is key.
B.Michael the manager was very friendly and helpful and offered a good rate. Rooms are comfortable enough with Free WiFi and Sky TV and modern TV. Whole place is like 1980s (style and fittings) but perfectly functional for a night or three. All Good overall just expect small town oldie worldie :-)

N. V.Ok place to stay. Net curtain ripped and no other curtains to keep light out on smaller window. One power socket didn't work. No labels on soap/shampoo dispenser in shower.

B.(Translated) I went to spend my New Year in Wanganui, and it seemed like a good option. I was given a room next to the laundry room, in which the noise was ok, it was annoying but not much. The room was nice, but not so clean, and on my second night a cockroach climbed my arm on the bed. The pots when I arrived were also not so clean. I believe that when guests leave there is no check or cleaning before another one, because I found a band aid used under the bed.
Use of the laundry ok, change of towels too! The receptionist I think is the owner, very helpful and available. But until then everything was fine.
My problem was the last two nights.
At dawn on the 31st to 1, someone with a tattooed face started knocking on my glass door at 4:30 in the morning. I was terrified! I told him to leave and closed the curtain, locked myself in the bathroom until he stopped knocking and left.
In the early hours of day 1 to 2, it happened again that there was a knock on my glass door between 1 am and 1:30 am ... This time I didn't make any noise and locked myself in the bathroom again.
Very scared I left when it was dawn.
I think it's very open, anyone can enter and can knock on your door like that. I felt coerced, insecure. And nobody expects it on vacation. I hope they put a turnstile, or a gate that is closed after 10pm ...

Fui passar meu Ano Novo em Wanganui, e me pareceu uma boa opção. Me deram um quarto ao lado da lavanderia, no qual o barulho era ok, incomodava mas não muito. O quarto era bom, mas não tão limpo, e na minha segunda noite uma barata subiu o meu braço na cama. As panelas quando cheguei também não estavam tão limpas. Acredito que quando os hóspedes saem não rola uma verificação ou faxina antes de entrar outro, pois achei um band aid usado embaixo da cama.
Uso da lavanderia ok, troca de toalhas também! O recepcionista acho que é o dono, muito solícito e disponível. Mas ate ai tava tudo bem.
Meu problema foi nas ultimas duas noites.
Na madrugada do dia 31 para 1 alguém com o rosto tatuado começou a bater na minha porta de vidro as 4:30 da manhã. Eu fiquei apavorada! Mandei ir embora e fechei a cortina, me tranquei no banheiro ate ele parar de bater e ir embora.
Na madrugada do dia 1 para o 2 aconteceu novamente de baterem na minha porta de vidro as 1 da manha ate 1:30... Dessa vez não fiz barulho e me tranquei no banheiro novamente.
Com muito medo eu fui embora quando amanheceu.
Acho que é muito aberto, qualquer um entra e pode bater na sua porta desse jeito. Me senti coagida, insegura. E ninguém espera isso nas férias. Espero que coloquem uma catraca, ou um portão que fique fechado depois das 10pm...
