Alice and Calvin were so welcoming to our large group of 14 ladies. They went out of there way to make sure we had everything we needed. The beautiful old house was so clean and tidy. The beds where comfortable, showers good pressure and lovely bathrooms. We felt like it was home away from home. The bonus was being able to use the pizza oven. Calvin prepped the oven and taught us how to cook wood fired pizzas 10/10. The kitchens had everything we needed from platters, plates to plenty of glasses and fridge space. Thank you for making our night so memorable and wonderful. We would stay again.

Home away from home, the owners here are so friendly and welcoming. We stayed in one of there twin rooms. The toilets are nice and clean, showers were good pressure. When we arrived back of a night one of the owners ran down the hall to switch on all the lights for us and make it homely. Would stay again. Thanks Alice and family! :)

My second stay at Braemar House. This time for 2 nights, previously (in 2019) for 6weeks.
Since my previous stay the kitchen has had new induction hot-plates fitted and other refurbishments. It is most suitable for just about anyone who likes friendly, helpful and knowledgeable hosts and a clean and safe enviroment. Many thanks Alice and Kelvin and
it was nice seeing you again. Peter

I stayed in the B&B. I couldn’t fault the place. The service was great. Quick communication when booking. The whole place was clean. Great quality bed, sheets and pillows. Exceptional linen and nothing was a bother for the owners, even though they were full.

We spent one night in the guesthouse. The owner, Kelvin, is really nice and gave awesome local advice for cycle routes and dining options.
The room was small but comfortable and we didn’t mind the shared bathrooms.
They rent bikes for $5/half day and this is a great way to see the town.
Lovely location, just next to the river.

Alice and Calvyn are wonderful hosts. They are there when you need them but happy to let you just get on with getting on!
Our group of 9 cyclists found the facilities perfect for our post lockdown bubble tour. We were warmly received and well catered for.
The hosts were flexible, kind and professional.
The showers were warm and strong!!!
The location, right beside the Whanganui River and a 15 minute walk to the city centre was ideal.
We will be back!

Very warm and welcoming stay. Alice and Calvin are wonderful host. We were very loud group of 25 including crazy kids running everywhere. Alice and Calvin made sure that we are comfortable and arranged the kitchen and BBQ as per our requirements. Rooms are comfortable and clean. The house is very unique and very well maintained. The kids also had lots of fun with the dog ( Dash).
Thanks Alice and Calvin for accommodating us and everything you did for us.
Kind Regards,
Chaitalee

Friendly staff, comfortable mattress, clean environment and the treat is they have a Yamaha classical guitar in very good condition as well. Nothing to be picky. Sincerely recommended.

Gorgeous old building, very helpful and friendly hosts, comfortable room in the old nurses quarters. Close to river, breakfast cafe, 20 min walk to town and Waimarie paddle steamer. Lots to see and do in Whangerei. Great spot.
M.
Affordable price bed and breakfast. Recommended for staying in Whanganui.

Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. Charming building with character. The owners have clearly been putting in a huge effort to fix up the place and maintain nice gardens and excellent cleanliness. Very reasonably priced too.

It's a cute hostel with a small common area and small kitchen. I wasn't aware of the fact the bathroom is only accessible via an outside entrance, which wasn't comfortable during the cold nights and mornings. Also, there was only 1 bathroom for 4 rooms. If you stay in a dorm, at least there's a bathroom inside.
Everything was clean. The owners are very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. They provided kids toys for our kids. There's no freezer, but there's a fridge. Also, there a friendly dog and cat running around the property.
If the weather is warm, the garden is a big plus.
PLEASE NOTE
1. When you're staying at the YHA hostel part of the house, not everything you see on the pictures are accessible. The lovely common room, hall way and fancy bedrooms are part of the bed and breakfast.
2. If you're staying in the double bedroom which is located in a separate building, there's only 1 bathroom for 4 rooms. The bathroom has access from the outside, so keep this in mind during winters!

Stayed here in November/December for a couple nights in one of the dorms for a conference. Can say hand on heart that Braemar House is one of the nicest places to stay in Wanganui.
Service was excellent, always helpful and sociable.
Facilities great too for whatever you might need. Kitchen, wi-fi, good beds, and just a lovely place in general. And it's not too far away from the city center.
Will definitely look to stay here again if I find myself in Wanganui.

My Partner & I stayed in the B&B part of this YHA, very, very friendly Owners, we were well cared for , the outdoor area was very welcoming & pleasant to while away some time meeting new people.
A very nice verandah out front to enjoy a quiet drink in the aftenoon.

We've stayed here a few months ago, and I just found the time to write a review. Our stay was more than perfect. We were greeted and picked up by the owner at the bus station, and had a dorm to ourselves as it was not too busy. The owners are very attentionate and make you feel at home. The hostel is very cosy and charming. We just have good words to share about this YHA. Thank you for the lovely stay.

Very beautiful house with nice carpet decoration. Large and clean kitchen and friendly staff.

The owner is very friendly and approachable. Doesn't feel like a hostel, more like homestay, peaceful and warmth. Clean and comfortable room with 500MB free wifi. Free fruits too :)

One of Whanganui's oldest buildings being very well run and preserved to a high standard. Luxury bnb stays in the main building or a more bargain option in the rear accomodation block.
Well worth a visit!

(Translated) Cozy little hostel that feels more like home. Everything was very clean and quiet and apart from the decor you do not see the age of the building. Wi-Fi works well and there are books and board games to keep you busy. The only small minus is that I find personally 5 dollars for the use of the washing machine a bit too expensive. In all the other hostels I've stayed in, it cost $ 2-3. But there is a clothesline, so you do not necessarily have to use the dryer.
