Excellent 'apartment' for the 5 of us. Spacious, clean and tidy. Showers had great pressure and kids enjoyed the swimming pool.
Only downside was the breakfast - continental poor value for money as only 2 slices of toast given, with only another 1 when more requested, no more after that. No toast at all with the Full, which is odd.
C. W.
Loved it. The breakfast which was included in the room rate was awesome cooked breakfast, room was a little outdated and the tv very old but bed was comfy and the bathroom was nice and clean. Bonus had a swimming pool also
I. B.
It's a nice enough place , dinner was great. I chose a discount room as I was travelling for work. Those are upstairs and very strong paint smell. If I stayed again I would stay away from renovations
A. R.
Nice, clean and quiet rooms. Awesome pool. Wonderful breakfast and staff. All room amenities provided. Good place to relax.
S. J.
Comfortable nights rest. Check in was easy and person at reception was nice. Rooms could do with an update but are fine for the price.

Stayed here with a friend on our motorbikes, they provided secure parking which was great. Food was fantastic and rooms were clean. Would stay again
V. c. z.
Fantastic place. Easy reach to all amenities. Nice people at reception with a warm welcome
J. E.
Loved staying here. It has been renovated. We had spacious quiet room. Very nice.
G. R.
Friendly people, clean rooms, good value.
The room we had didn't have air conditioning, and got a bit too warm. The road can be noisy on that side of the building. Overall good, would stay again.
Love the alien spaceship in the entry.

My mistake, as I thought I was booking a motel with kitchen facilities. We did have a fridge and a kettle, and received vouchers for breakfast in the restaurant. This was, however, pretty ordinary with very limited choices for someone with special dietary requirements. Noisy at night from burnouts in the street. The room was over-heated with no controls for the heating. Friendly staff.

Arrived in time for the lock down announcement.
Pleasant meal, comfortable sleep.
Would have liked a bit more time to enjoy mothership beer... Hopefully there will be a chance after we flatten the Delta curve
R. G.
Lovely reception lady..Great restaurant food..however although we were made aware that some rooms are overdue for refurbishment..we found the fixed shower head and appaling lack of pressure to much. We didn't have a second shower. Also carpet was so wrinkled we triped a couple of times.
M. L.
Very basic. Our family room was clean and serviceable. Pool was great and their hours are reasonable. Was great to be adjoined to the brewery next door, which did good food as well as good beer.
m.
Great experience, good food and clean rooms.
J.
Was there for a Meeting and Morning tea, fabulous venue sham about the noisy crowd in the next room.
M. S.
The staff in the hotel was so friendly also the food in the bar was delicious thank you to the chief, kyler in the bar never stopped, always working, also the craft beers made a pleasant change for a hotel. The rooms were a bit dated but of good size and everything you needed for a few days. If I was down there again I would certainly stay there.
A. M.
Had dinner there. Meal selection was great and the food was well presented. Staff were very helpful, pleasant and smiley to deal with. Restaurant wasn't open, so had our dinner in the bar. Craft beer variety was interesting and tasty. Other drinks selection was good too. Awesome!!

We had the most wonderful lady at reception who was so lovely to our kids and made us feel so welcomed, we loved every bit of this lovely place♥️The room was very clean and everyone was lovely.
S. E.
Property has a great location and our room was a nice size but it is all a bit tired. Needs some love . Breakfast is ho hum and they run out of supplies. Stayed 2 nights but had to ask for breakfast food to be replaced twice. Only 6 or 7 guest eating at the time.
C.
A nice place to stay
The bed was so comfortable
The food was awesome
S. A.
Lovely place. Restaurant meal was amazing.
A. J.
Rooms are comfortable and spacious.
The restaurant serves great food and they brew great beer.
But the layout is pretty strange. Like it was set out by a 70s architect on lsd
S. S.
The room was nice, could do with a face-lift but was ok for a couple of nights. Very disappointed with the front staff...could not be bothered to greet, smile etc😔 just told us our room number and asked for credit card..very rude! everytime we dealt with the front desk it was like we should not have bothered!🤨 I would not go back for that reason.. another couple we talked to staying there said the same.
A. T.
Efficient reception staff. Very clean although dated decor. Unfortunately did not try bar/restaurant as wasn’t open for lunch
G. V.
Tired but Handy to town and has a restaurant with a good menu. Great business overnighter facility rather than a holiday or long stay place. Very friendly and helpful staff team.
j. m.
Good location near food outlets great restaurant awesome rooms great service 5 minutes walk to supermarkets
j. S.
The meal was very good well presented.
The staff were very polite and friendly.
Would recomend The Avenue Kingsgate to everyone looking for a great place have a meal cheers

Was in need of an upgrade with stained carpets & shabby paintwork. It was really hot but they did not have AC , only provided a fan which only circulated warm air.

On 16th of August 2019 I had the pleasure of celebrating my 50th birthday with family and friends who travelled from all over NZ and Australia to your amazing hotel. The rooms were very clean and warm, the food and the service were incredible and your staff were very kind, friendly and approachable. Thank you for making my birthday party a success, we will be highly recommending this place to many people.

I booked a backpacker room but it was a full motel unit, with bathroom, bath and shower, TV, microwave, fridge kettle, iron, and a double and a single bed. Very good value. I was given extra blankets, as requested. Staff were lovely.
J. H.
For the money paid, it is excellent value. Spacious and tidy studio room where whilst dated, it has everything you need in a central location with all the shops and food outlets at your doorstep. The bed is comfortable, and the complimentary cooked breakfast was also appreciated. Highly recommend!
L. M.
The customer service was fantastic. Stayed 2 nights. GREAT LOCATION. Room is big and clean. A big old and in need of a refresh but doesn't bother us!
A.
Reasonably priced accommodation a few blocks away from the centre of Whanganui. The decor is dated and looking pretty tired but the hotel rooms are large and clean. Free wifi. Lots of off-street parking. Helpful and friendly staff.
R. C.
Clean tidy room n bathroom. Pleasant and very helpful front desk staff showing engagement, respect and pleasure. Friendly house staff. Great facilities with nice outdoor pool with shade. Good online price options. Central. Plentiful parking. Across the road from New World. Walking dustance to Burger King. Rooms able to provide ample fresh air. Quiet. Fan available. Matress not overly hard. Good pillows. Would use again if in town. Good shower water pressure.
C.
Great room and restaurant option. No lift but staff to carry bags upstairs. Does cater for disabilities with a downstairs room. Close to lots of amenities.
D. M.
The restaurant was outstanding, a must eat is the Angus steak meal, set in a nice atmosphere, where one can feel relaxed. Breakfast was nice and management is very professional only downside was the room was outdated which could cause problems with ants.. very accessible to shops. Once again I would stay at this place again
B. H.
Had dinner here - staff are friendly, pinot gris Gunn Estate is delightful. Recommend the steak main but its quite big so share an entrée. Had the salmon but it was overcooked, friends had the seafood platter - was big with a good selection of seafood.

Couldn't fault the food but for around 60% of our evening was served by a guy in shorts and running shoes, we don't offend spend $143 on one meal and had made a effort to dress up so expected more, as for paying the bill, well this became a joke. First went through to the bar to pay, we had a gift voucher to cover part of the bill and was told by Mr shorts he didn't know how to honour the gift voucher so was sent to reception, this was unatended, we stood there for around 5 minutes. It was still before 9pm as I tried to go back into the bar to try and find someone only to find the doors locked. I went back to reception and tried to ring the after hours number on the desk only to have the phone ring at the unattended desk so of course got no answer. Mr shorts then turned up and took me back to the bar after unlocking the doors and managed to take my payment. Again couldn't fault the food but the rest of our special evening out was a disappointment. Atmosphere wasn't as expected, no candles on table and far to many lights on.
R. J.
Still not certain how the name fits!! However, couldn't fault the food or drink. We were a party of four, two fish and chips, two salmon mains. Two shared sticky date puddings, enough too share. Good wine and beers, FANTASTIC!!! Will we go again, you bet!!!! Great that we have a microbrewery just around the corner.
Robert & Linde
PS Thanks, John and Auriel for suggesting this should be our venue.

A winter stay in Wanganui was warm and comfortable at The Kingsgate. Very 70s feel inside the room but it was big and we had a balcony. Rooms however are in need of modernising quick smart. The person on reception was polite but robotic. Excellent service, thanks to the ladies at Reception & in the Bar.
T.
Main doors are locked at 10pm so you must climb over a small wall in the car park to walk to a rear entry which your room key gives access through. Carpet was filthy. Quiet around the pool and restaurant area that gave it a relaxing feel. Worth the price.
F. B.
Room was great... I think the office staff should be aware to acknowledge visitors as they walk through the reception area to create a more friendly and professional image. Only saying... They were pleasant to deal with though and gave us a good deal that you had online which was different to which was offered face to face. Good location we will come back when we visit Wanganui again for the deals you offer on line
T.
Not a bad place to stay. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Lovely breakfast in the onsite restaurant included in our room rate. Full cooked breakfast options were on offer but on this occasion, I had to go searching for the attendant. Restaurant meal was great the Terakihi was awesome.
T.
The outside rooms were alot older than the superior rooms and were not nearly as nice inside. I didn't test the pool as it looked a bit cold but it was right outside the front door. Not being able to access food or drink in a Kingsgate Hotel is shameful.
S. Y.
Very neat and tidy and clean parking is away from the units difficult if you have a lot of gear to take to your room
j. b.
we are only in wanguni for 1 night. out room hotel was comfortable. we had a king size bed lots of room comfort for as both an d that can trickly as I like soft he hard but we manager well. the spa bath lovely could be a bit bigger 2 person but just me. the food was very well cook tasting and very large meals. staff friendly kind and very helpful. would return. only problem if left very white on pants there and would love the back
S.
A mixed bag.
Two nice large beds. 2 chairs but no table (only table has TV on it). New carpets. Scuffs on walls. New kitchen area. Micro bathroom. Kick ass air con. Tiny towels.
R. G.
A little dated but clean and comfortable. Top Mark's to the wonderful staff who know how to go the extra mile 😀 would stay again if I ever have to visit this town again 🤣🤣🤣
P. W. T.
Rooms are a bit dated and not very soundproof. Was woken in the early hours by other guests talking in the hallway and opening and shutting their room doors.
T.
Shorter drive today made shorter by not visiting Dawson Falls on Mt. Taraniki because of very thick cloud cover. The cleaners did a good job but the carpet needed a serious clean or replacement. Internet was availalble at no charge but usage limited. Would stay here again for a short trip.
J.
Good clean rooms with excellent and friendly staff.
T.
Stopped in on Wanganui because I was interested in the vibrant art scene I had heard about. We stayed in a lower front room facing the main road and there were no weird smells or collapsing shower heads. I am glad that Sharon booked us in early in the year as there were a lot of people there.
T.
Breakfast in the restaurant was self service and very good. I booked this hotel because we didn't want to pack food for breakfast and they offered a buffet in the morning. I would highly recommend Wanganui as a great place to visit and the Kingsgate Hotel as a great place to stay.
T.
I'm a regular visitor to Wanganui for work and always find the staff friendly and helpful. The car parked right outside the door was very handy in the wet wintery conditions. ***aging director Clayton even allowed me to use conference room for a couple of hours free of charge. I will continue to stay here.
J. P.
Great place. Comfortable bed, good shower and a great breakfast. Even waited open for me as I was late due to ice on the road.
W. H.
Nice hotel good service
T. R.
Loved it. Prime location.
P. T.
Staff friendly restaurant and bar top notch hotel starting to look dated . Overall really good value
I. S.
Helpful staff. Restaurant on site for dinner and breakfast. Bathroom looked up to date but a bit awkward how to turn shower on and not get wet with cold water plus ran outside the glass screen onto floor? Hmm.
P. R.
Room a little out dated but cosy enough. Close to 2 supermarkets, bottle store. Would stay again.
D. P.
Very happy here. Reasonable prices in, arguably, one of the best hotels in Wanganui. Lovely, clean rooms and powerful shower.
W. T.
Older style hotel. Clean and warm. Could do with some updating
S. Q.

I loved my time at the Kingsgate had great neighbour's and it was an awesome little community.
J. L. R.
Very basic. The room I was allocated was next to a Pak 'n Save, which was noisy at times during truck offloads.
