E.Our room was clean and tidy. The vintage nature of the hotel is really cool and makes for a cool aesthetic. We were there on Tues/Wed and it was still quite noisy from the bar downstairs. Parking was also a bit difficult to find as the hotel didn't have it's own.
M.Some of the rooms are really old however it's good value for money, close to restaurants but no parking
D.The Grand has great history with the Queen staying there un '53. We stayed in the same room (35) as she did and went out into the balcony as she did. It's such a pity that after 68 years it isn't maintained a little better and incorporates the rest of the hotel to a higher standard.
N.I stayed one night last year. It's an amazing old building (old for nz). My room was really clean and comfortable. I see other complain about noise, but I put in ear plugs and didn't hear a thing.
A.For the cost, $90 per night, well worth the stay. Very clean, tidy room with ensuite. Facilities for making coffee or tea. Plates etc to serve a meal on. Fridge as well plus TV. Free WiFi. Microwave available in the corridor. Situated in a central position, making it easy to walk to shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.
R.Excellent always a great crowd of locals I go mainly for the Karaoke but always seem to meet up with some great real people!
C.Cheap & affordable! Great place to crash. Free parking just outside Fri 5pm-Mon 9am. Otherwise you may miss out on one of the three free private carparks. Dated rooms and bathrooms, good fast unlimited wifi internet the only reason it gets a 3star with no client portal and/or firewall/blocklist. Perfect for the bus backpacker since the bus station is directly next door. Salt Cafe just round the corner which has great food and coffee.
It was a top 5star hotel back 40years ago, not now.
R.Love Me and my partner stayed here last night. Nice staff, Nice warm, quiet, clean rooms! And oh the bath! 😊 Supposedly noisy with the Karaoke, but we were right above it and could barely hear anything. They had a function in the afternoon, but even that wasn't too bad. !! Will definitely come here again! Thank you!

D.Check in was a little weird, inside of a bar, but the lady checking me in seemed nice. My stay was pretty quiet, despite being right above the bar and restaurant, a few trains went by right next to the hotel, but nothing after 10pm. The room I had was tidy, the wallpaper was lumpy and peeling a little though. Everything about the single bedroom and bathroom is as described. The only downside was having no idea what to do with my key when I left early, there was nobody at reception, the bar was closed, and I wasn't given any info on what to do with it when I checked in. Being right in the heart of the city was really good too, plenty of options for eating, banks nearby, parks nearby, etcetera. For $70 it really isn't bad if you like an old timey aesthetic rather than a modern room.
c.Nice room for a reasonable price in a great location. It is dated but i felt like it was clean enough with all variables considered. Mainly the price $68 for a ensuite room...
A.Old untouched charm, staying there for the night was almost like travelling in time. The staff was accomodating and friendly, available for a check-in late at night. My single room had a bath tub, which was an excellent surprise. The hotel is clean, affordable.

I.The Grand is a classic Kiwi pub with pool tables outdoor smoking area and you get to meet the locals. I have had some really good exchanges with the locals and I just about always meet someone new everytime I go ther. The staff are usually very pleasant and helpful.
s.Historical, interesting, cosy, price is reasonable. Will let friends and family know. Stay was impulsive driving tired and late. Safety first.
A.A Grand Old Lady with the Glamour of a age Long Gone. Situated in the centre of Whangarei. A few rough edges but you don't find places like this anymore. The Hotel is warm (but there are extra blankets in the wardrobe). Quiet enough even with the Karaoke going in the Old World Pub below. Which is charming in it's own right with helpful staff. This is also where you check-in. My Partner saying that the old school bath "Was to Die for". If you are looking for Auckland modernism, the Grand is not for you. BUT if you want a comfortable stay in a hotel with Character I can Heartily recommend "The Grand".
E.Comfy bed , friendly people. Clean rooms. Older style but everything was sufficient for the price. Would most certainly recommend to anyone looking for best value for money
M.Room was clean and good but the noise from the bar kept us awake until 2am in the morning. Not the best area but I would say you get what you pay for.
L.Beautifully restored building, staff were excellent, I had a single room and loved the style and all the fixtures and furniture, had everything I needed, clean and I slept so well
