Reviews of Oak Lodge Homestay
Comfortable rooms and excellent breakfast. First rate service from our host Robin.
We booked the cottage and it is great! It is a decent one bedroom cottage with kitchen and oven. We cooked simple dinner and had everything we need. It is quite clean and warm too on a cold day. The host is nice and friendly (he has a cute big dog too). The whole experience is of great value for what we got.
We booked the standard apartment for one night. This is in fact a lovely one bedroom cottage just next to the main property. The cottage is very spacious, well laid out, and spotlessly clean. It is very bright and airy with a lovely outlook . Would definitely recommend and stay again.
Recently Stayed at Oak Lodge for 6 nights and hosted in separate cottage on site. We were so pleased to wake up to occasional bleating of sheep and birds singing rather than car noises and vocal neighbours.
I have major medical issues and facilities proved to be perfect for my needs.
Not only was cottage perfect, where else would you get each morning half
dozen fresh eggs and bowl freshly picked tomatoes!!!
Congrats Robin you have
a fantastic facility which we have no hesitation in not only using again but wholeheartedly recommend to others to enjoy the experience.

This is a gem. Attentive but unobtrusive service by the kind host. Beautiful building with clean and well equipped rooms, superb guest lounge with afternoon sun and view of mature trees. Beautiful gardens, and a tennis court - and a superb breakfast to start the day.
The host Robin was very friendly and the room was lovely. Very clean and tidy. Woke to the sound of birds singing. Treated to the most amazing breakfast. Totally recommend staying here. We will be back! Cool dog too!
Alistair and Shirley are two of the kindest people I have ever met. I had broken my leg the day before we booked in to Oak Lodge and the service and treatment my husband and I received was marvelous. The room was lovely and spacious, very clean and I have to say was my only decent night's sleep on the whole of our trip, it was so comfortable. They very kindly brought breakfast to our room as I was pretty incapacitated. I will never forget their hospitality and Oak Lodge was warm and friendly just like them. Thank you both once again. PS I forgot to mention Shirley, those blueberry muffins you baked and we took with us were absolutely delicious, the best ever thank you.
We have had a fabulous stay at Oak Lodge, charming host Robin gave us some great ideas on local places to visit. Hotel is spotlessly clean, great facilities, stunning location. And the breakfast is out of this world - all local produce cooked to perfection. If you need a place to stay near Greymouth this is definitely a great choice.
Stayed there 2 nights ago. So peaceful, relaxing, clean, friendly service and a breakfast to die for. He even juiced the fresh fruit drink for us. All rooms were to a high standard and hard to choose which one to stay in. I found this place was better and cleaner than the Hilton in Denarau Fiji, and that's hard to beat.
Lovely gardens to wander in too.

Robin is a superb host. We had the luck to stumble over his doorstep without giving him any notice and we got a beautiful room in a stunning house. What a gem!
The breakfast was just amazing! Need to come back...
We searched everywhere in greymouth for a room with a spa and sauna and paid an extra $150 over the other accomodation to get one. We arrived there and the guy was super friendly but said he didn't have the spa ready because it was expensive to run. We are paying nearly $300 for one night so we asked him to turn it on and he said it would take a few hours to heat up. We waited for the whole night and into early morning and it was still stone cold. Very disappointed. It's not very private either I wouldn't recommend couples stay here for a romantic getaway. It's more set up for groups of travellers. The bed was itchy and the road noise kind of killed the serenity of sitting outside. The place is pretty old fashioned and a lot of tourists would like the style.
Excellent stay at Oak Lodge. Accommodation was very comfortable and full cooked breakfast was lovely and filling to start our next day's adventures. Thankyou Robin for making us feel so welcome.
Brilliant accommodation. Comfy, warm and just enough for a nights stay in a beautiful old girl. Hosts was accommodating for a late booking on Easter weekend.
Really nice, comfortable, clean and the host is really welcoming. There was a pool and a sauna. Nice breakfast and you can choose from different things.
Great place to stay, private cottage with full kitchen; pool table, sauna, spa, tennis court. Robin is an excellent host and the facilities are tops.
Really enjoyed our stay beautiful location great service from Robin and the breaky was delicious would definately recommend it as a great place to stay. ☺️
It's a lovely place with very nice and cozy rooms.
Robin the host is very friendly and serves the best breakfast in New Zealand 😊
Awesome place to stay. The cottage is very well presented and offers all the creature comforts of home. Recommend.
Beautifully decorated, very clean, awesome sunset view & very friendly & helpful hosts.
Highly recommended!

Sweet petting farm and sweet couple
Lovely place to stay
Really nice place
Good services
Very unusual lodge. A converted farmhouse that has a real history dating back to the beginning of the 19th century. It has several rooms in which you immediately feel like you have been transported to another time. TV and modern amenities are available. You can make tea and coffee in the common room. The breakfast is absolutely delicious. It is partly made from local products. You definitely have to try the beef bratwurst. The host Robin is courteous and is always available to help and advise his guests. I would be happy to come back. It is only a few minutes by car to Greymouth.
A wonderful night at OAK LODGE! We were welcomed as it should be in this place. For our honeymoon, the hosts offered us a bottle and heart-shaped chocolates. The spacious and classy room overlooked the meadow behind. The host convinced us to use the sauna and the outdoor jacuzzi at 35 degrees! Towels provided! He did not know what to do to please us!! The breakfast was fantastic! The lady asked us the day before what we wanted to eat. We only had to give the desired time for breakfast and everything was ready. She even made us muffins to take away for the road! ||In the morning, the gentleman allowed us to feed his sheep with him and it was a great moment that will remain engraved in our memory. So much generosity and kindness is very touching because they did much more than they had to do to make us comfortable. Thank you!
Despite a warm welcome, this establishment breathes the old English house to which an attempt has been made to bring a little touch of renovation. The room is very poorly insulated from noise and cold. On the other hand, the bathroom is up to date. The breakfast is very frugal and there is no choice. It is a homestay without really more. I would not recommend it
An exceptional welcome, a truly extraordinary generosity and kindness. We came for our honeymoon and upon arrival a bottle and chocolate were waiting for us on our bed. A spacious and very clean room. Very close to the city center. The sauna is offered there which makes the stay even more pleasant. The hosts explained the city and its surroundings and what there was to do there. A multiple choice breakfast on our arrival which was truly delicious. A perfect moment. Thank you with all my heart for everything.
It is very quaintly located in the countryside and a very cute house in the countryside, near the sea, but without a view of it. A little cozy and comfortably furnished. We felt very comfortable, also because of the great, large beds! Very privately run and the host is really great and very accommodating! We were immediately greeted with cake, which was very good by the way! There is the Queen Elisabeth Walk nearby, which you should definitely do! Great views of the sea and it goes through a real jungle, which is honestly spectacular!|Wi-Fi worked perfectly here! A clear recommendation from me!
The wonderful hospitality of Alastair and Shirley is difficult to describe. The owners of the lodge welcomed me very warmly and helped me a lot with words and deeds. Alastair was always right with his tips on planning the day, what to do and what not to do. It was a lovely stay that I will look back on fondly.||The Oak Lodge is located a few kilometres outside of Greymouth, surrounded by greenery and very quiet. It is surrounded by hilly countryside with lots of sheep, just as you would imagine New Zealand to be. The Oak Lodge is a relatively large house with spacious common areas for guests. You can book several rooms, all comfortably furnished, I had no complaints.||Shirley makes a great breakfast. You can tell us what you want the evening before, which is practical. The eggs for this are laid by the in-house chickens. ||Overall, a great B&B with very friendly, typically New Zealand hosts. Highly recommended.||
After some initial difficulties finding the B&B, we were warmly welcomed by Alastair and his wife Shirley. Their wonderful homestay is very well maintained, super clean and everything is well thought out. Nothing is left to be desired. The large common room with kitchenette invites you to linger and you can switch off here. The breakfast leaves nothing to be desired - unfortunately we were only here for one night while passing through. We can recommend the Oak Lodge without reservation.
5 minutes before Greymouth by SH6 coming from the north, in the middle of the countryside, 5 rooms, 4 of which are occupied. Ours is large with recent bathroom, shared lounge. Cleanliness, quality linen, space. Excellent breakfast prepared by our hosts, very kind and attentive.|Do not miss the discreet entrance, close the windows well to avoid the noise of the road and your stay will be perfect like ours, especially our host puts a wifi amplifier to receive even better in the room .... if you are a little fomo like us.||Ps: fomo = fear of missing out ... in French, fear of missing something|
Be careful not to miss the entrance before the city (if you arrive from the north) very discreet, the owners are adorable and take great care of you offering you all the possible activities (feeding the lambs or the eels in the stream that passes in front of the house). we even had homemade cookies in our room.||only small downside the rooms are a little noisy. ||in addition to the room a shared lounge with kitchenette is available
Located just before the entrance to the city, this place enjoys total tranquility, much appreciated after a day full of activities. The hosts are charming and good advice, the rooms comfortable and very clean. In the morning the breakfast is varied and plentiful.
A very good B&B. The owner is nice. The room is fully equipped with kitchenware and a washing machine. Cool and quiet at night. It's about three or four kilometers away from the city. My most satisfying hotel in the South Island of New Zealand.
