H.Copthorne Hotel and Resort in Solway, Masterton is a high class establishment, providing both accommodation and excellent dining (at Grills Restaurant). The rooms are comfortable and well organized. The beds were comfy, everyone (including the kids) slept well. They also have both an outdoor and indoor pool. The outdoor pool is a good size and has depths that cater for the young and old. Unfortunately the indoor pool was not functioning for the duration of our stay and this is the only reason for the four star rating, everything else would have justified 5 stars. Would love to stay there again.
K.Nice place to stay for a weekend with friends. Comfortable bed and good shower. Decor around the hotel is a little tired, but our room was fine. Dinner at the hotel restaurant was lovely. Just a shame that a lot of the hotel facilities were closed due to covid including not giving out tennis racquets, so lucky we had brought our own.
M.Last time we stayed here (2019) the decor was abit run down. Beds were comfy and room was tidy. Hallways stank like wet carpet or something else. Meals were fantastic though, and all the amenities were great, gym and pool. We booked the function room for a party and it went well, the lady that organised it was great and got everything I wanted.
G.We stayed over a weekend during the winter school holidays. The weather outside was pretty miserable, but we had a decent stay.
The kids spent lots of time in the swimming pool, but missed out on the outdoor playground. I made decent use of the gym in the mornings, but it's clear that the gym wouldn't hold more than a single person making use of the weights. On our next stay, I'm planning on trying out the squash court.
The rooms were perfect for our needs. We had enough space for the kids to play and sleep in one bedroom while we had the other for ourselves. The kitchenette was functional, but watch out for warped pans that heat and cook unevenly.
On our first night, we opted for booking into the restaurant. There wasn't any shortage of tables, so booking is probably not necessary. It's also worth having a look at the prices before making a decision. The food was nice, but it was quite an expensive meal.
We'll likely visit again. The value for money is definitely there and it's got great facilities for families.

B.I am attending workshops there periodically for the next 7 months. The facilities are neat, clean and well kept. Locations are clearly indicated. A friendly smile awaits you on arrival. Tablecloths are secured so they cannot slip around or get blown by the wind. They cater for vegetarian and gluten-free options and clearly mark which is which using a printed card with the guests' names on. The food is very tasty and the warm food is served hot. There is always a tray of fresh fruit to nibble on during the day A quiet, peaceful atmosphere. A really awesome location to attend meetings. There is a restaurant for meals. I have yet to try. But have heard amazing things and when driving by on a Sunday see it quite busy.
J.I went here in March 2021 and I was very pleased with the atmosphere and the venue. They rooms were clean and the area to socialise in were fantastic. I was able to purchase drinks and food here. I had a brunch meal here and it was delicious. The swimming pool and spa was clean and the hotel was accessible and very well looked after. I would definitely go back here again and I would advise others to come and stay here.
S.Great place to take the kids, my little one loved the playground and trampoline. Loved that there is an indoor and outdoor pool, as it was too cold for the outdoor pool and my little one opted for the spa that's in the same area as the indoor pool.
Wish there was better signage in regards to parking areas for the rooms as the directions I was given was not very clear.
Good range of breakfast options, would be nice to have a few more Vegan options including some for kids.
Heads up to make sure you leave your shoes on when walking on the grass around trampoline, outdoor pool, etc as there are lots of tiny prickles.

My only complaint was the evening meal. I ordered the Sirloin steak. It was the toughest piece of steak that I've ever had the misfortune to try and eat in my entire life, and not even supplied with a steak knife for the task. Not at all impressed.
I would stay there again but not convinced that I would eat there again.
J.Fantastic bar area. Nice clean comfy rooms. Old hotel but still good. Husband had lamb rack which he loved. My steak was chewy and under cooked a bit disappointed. Breaky was good buffet style. Staff were lovely and very helpful.
S.I used to go here as a kid. Loved running down the corridors, and all the activities you can do as a kid. And now as an adult I enjoy the nostalgia and bringing my boy here. The place still provides a great stay! Highly recommend using it if you ever have the chance.
R.Fantastic value for money. $NZ298 for 2 nights for myself and my three daughters. The room was spacious and tastefully upgraded. My girls loved the heated internal pool and spa. I didn't get to use the gym but that was available to us along with the restaurant, gaming room etc.
I will return but I may opt for a unit with cooking facilities or at least a microwave if they have them.

The rooms are comfy, they all seem to have baths, the staff are helpful, and the location between Masterton and Carterton makes it good for dinner options.
I also think it’s a great option for those that want to hike the Tararuas and want somewhere nearby to stay.

I went for a friends wedding. The function centre was fully equipped, awesome staff either serving us or on the desk when arriving. Highly recommend to anyone if they want a wedding venue, that can cater everything.
R.Would definitely stay again, was a good price (possibly due to Covid) and the room was just a standard but was more than sufficient. The pool was perfect, only thing I'd change or upgrade would the spa but not enough to take a star off . Customer service was on point from all staff.

S.Sorry, but not happy. Room looks good until you start looking around. No toaster or pudding bowls, 2 tsp, but no dsp spoons, only 1 knife as well, come on guys, give your guests the appropriate cutlery and crockery to be happy to stay here. In the bathroom, we don't want to see other guests hair laying in bath tub and the shower head needs to be cleaned. Sorry but I expect Hotel/Motel units to be spotless and as a former receptionist/ cleaner I know what to look for.

D.Easy location for those coming from Wellington. The sign is visible as soon as you enter Masterton. Very professional but approachable staff - the reception staff were helpful despite a miscommunication about the stay and the cleaners were very accommodating. The recreation on site is great for kids. Breakfast at the Grill was a pretty decent continental buffet, although at times the eggs were hit and miss. You have to be patient for the most popular foods.

Also, I've never been asked for a full glass or half, usually it's 100ml. 4 stars for the server, whom despite being ignorant of wine was a great host. Hence the 4 stars. Quality was 3 stars.
T.I was pleasantly surprised by the standard of this hotel. The venue was fantastic for a large conference of 160 and you could not fault the facilities re the dataprojectors, screens etc that we used. The homestead family restaurant next door is worth a visit if you have children.
R.Excellent customer service - rooms were cleaned well and we enjoyed the whānau atmosphere here. However, games room - some games need repairing. You might want to include pinball and retro arcade games in their as well for parents to use.
G.The staff are so friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much bother. Facilities are great. Golf range, kids playground, trampoline, cafe...plus board games if you want them. And so close to Masterton with the fabulous Queen Elizabeth park but also a short drive to wonderful wineries.
B.Awesome place for families with kids. Indoor pool had no depth indicator and is too deep for young kids (<8). So many things to do. Rooms and beds were great. Only 3 stars because the restaurant breakfast service was horrendous. Constantly ran out of popular food items. Only 1 drink choice, which ran out. If you plan to eat off site then you have hours of entertainment for kids here.

Rooms are always tidy and well maintained. My family and I always love coming here and the pool is always a bit of fun.
A.A great stay. There were a few Out of Order signs around when we went into the pool area, spa pool was Out of Order but it was explained it was because it had been cleaned out first thing in the morning and was waiting to reach correct temperature. When we went into the activities room a lot of the machines were out of order but went back in the afternoon and they had been fixed. All the staff that we came across were professional and very helpful.
J.I generally like staying here. Last time (2mths ago?) I had issues in the restaurant which I put great detail in my feedback. This time it was the restaurant again... as a back story I should say that I have had gastric surgery and therefore can t eat a big meal. The firm hosting me had paid for The 2 course set meal, a Long with breakfast. The evening meal (main course) last night was lovely, too big but very yummy although the cheesecake was awful. This morning I asked if I could have a children's breakfast I wasn't allowed as clearly I am an adult. I physically can t do justice to the full buffet. I eventually had two pieces of toast one with marmalade and I got a poached egg with some hollandaise. The egg was so runny that even the white wasn't cooked. Inedible actually. So my host agency paid for a full buffet and I had very little. Might have to have MacDonalds next time
T.We were very impressed with the decor and especially the size of the rooms. The staff are excellent and go out of there way to accomodate every request. Everything is clean and of a good standard. Booked a table in the restaurant for 630 as advised it was busy and no room after.

A.Rooms comfy enough. On site restaurant decent without being great. Breakfast better than dinner. Water pressure in the showers could have been stronger but all in all not a bad place to stay
P.The Copthorne is bigger than you think where it is not just a motor lodge with a fantastic restaurant and convention rooms. We also found both an outdoor pool and an indoor pool, which is conveniently located by the small gym and indoor squash court. The children can play with the small but entertaining playground while the older ones tried being brave with the confidence course.
The food at The Grill is marvelous, as is the service. If you want to BBQ your own, there is a BBQ area with modern gas grills to use.
Checking in and out is easy and efficient with staff that are very helpful. Numbering of rooms can be tricky but with the aid of a map it makes perfect sense.

Grill restaurant: good selection, creme brulee not silky and creamy but stiff and gelatinous. Onsite cafe dark and a bit grubby looking. Staff not very prompt. Would stay again, unplug wifi extender and probably eat elsewhere.
T.A wonderful stay. We said we would ""look"" at the dessert menu but couldn't resist as the desserts are so well priced at. The food at the restaurant is delicious and the hotel is located in easy distance to wineries, hiking the putangirau pinnacles, and visiting Cape Palliser.

R.It's a little tired. The upholstery in the public lounges needs cleaning/replacing. The wallpaper in the room is showing seams. The K labelling the bed linen in permanent marker is obvious. The front desk was about processing, not welcoming.

A.My experience was somewhat different to what one would normally review on this site. I didn't actually stay at the Hotel but my 5 star rating is based on amazing service by the reception staff.
Yesterday I got caught short - I was to attend a Charity Dinner function at the Hotel and had arranged to get changed at a friend's place as I had travelled back up from Wellington and needed somewhere to freshen up and change. Long story short, the friend whose home I was supposed to go to, got whisked off to hospital and was no longer able to accommodate me. After driving around Masterton wondering what to do, checking out the public toilets to see if I could use one of these (decided that was a tad dodgy)....getting desperate, I drove back out to Solway Park and went into the hotel and explained my dilemma to the receptionist - she very kindly arranged for me to use their hotel Boardroom as a changing room, gave me the key and the hotel floor plan abd just said "just bring the keys back to reception when you're done". I was so grateful for this kindness - Copthorn Solway, your reception team are a real credit to you. I couldn't believe how kind and helpful the young lady was - thanks for saving me from an awkward situation 😊
b.Spent 3 nights here and it was a great stay. Huge block of land and quite busy in level 2. It in good condition with nice staff.
T.We went here instead of Wellington, because of the recent earthquake and were pleasantly surprised. A toddy before a hot meal, flat screen TV and a comfy bed does it for me. Putting things in perspective though it was pretty good value for the money so if in Masterton again we would probably go back to this place.

A.Having The Grill restaurant in the complex was great. We ordered and had it delivered to our room. Food a little on the pricey side but no complaints food was perfect and a good size.
M.The amenities are great and the staff friendly and knowledgeable about the local scene. Thry also offered me free use of the pool even after checkout as I was not being picked up till the afternoon. Thry also stored my bag for the day.
H.I was here for three days of training. I have special dietary needs and the chef and staff were just great. The thing that let this down was continual aggressive behaviour by the maitre de towards another staff member.

T.部屋はとても清潔で、リラックスして過ごせました。ホテルの方は親切でした。周囲は比較的落ち着いた印象。朝食は、雰囲気と味ともにお勧めです。
T.スタッフの対応が丁寧で親切でした。こちらのホテルに３泊しましたが、毎日朝食が楽しみでした。周りはとても良い。
