Came here for dessert after a meal in the city. I'm glad I had saved room in my stomach as the servings here are pretty big. The menu boasts many choices of ice cream and how it's presented. When we couldn't decide they provided us with some nice taster cups which had way more than a typical ice cream store. The ice cream is great here, though, as I mentioned above, the servings are big, so it's probably not the healthiest of options. But let's be honest, you're not going to go here if you're looking for a healthy meal. This place is pure indulgence. Prices are a bit more than your typical ice cream, but there are extras (see the pictures) so you do get your money's worth. Staff were really helpful with everything as well.

Visit Giapo twice this year after I move back to Auckland. Chocolate Fondue is epic and it's so cheap when you use their App for the first time! Dulce de Leche is my favourite flavour so far, and there are different collaboration ice cream to choose from each month! Staffs are lovely and patient:) Will definitely go back to try different kinds of ice cream! Just the price is a bit expensive in general.

I’ve been coming to giapo for over a decade, and have indulged in their gelato many many time. when it was on queen st.. has come a long way!
Giapo benuo is my forever favourite!
It’s too bad their only open 3 days but it’s understandable in the covid world we’re in now!
L.
Simply one of the best ice cream shop in the country! If you are looking for something different Giapo is definitely the place to go! 😋😋😋

The customer service was great! Very happy to meet the man himself, who was so proud of his desserts. Each piece was an artwork, carefully designed so that every bite was memorable. The peanut brittle was the best I’ve had. Roasted hazelnut throughout the cone was also a nice touch. Highly recommend for those travelling the Auckland.
J.
The best ice cream I have ever had! So so delicious amazing service and the most fanatic flavours and creations. Highly recommend. I love this place.
B.
Their gelato is fantastic, huge, and pretty full-on. Some of the cone options are preposterous and amazing with prices to match. Tiramisu also excellent. The shop can feel cramped when busy so I prefer to take away.

If I am being honest, I do not know where to begin. The Giapo store has to be one of my favourite, most visited places on Earth. The most thought out, authentic and sensational and at times unusual combinations of flavours you will ever find in an ice cream store, I promise that Giapo lives up to the slogan normal ice cream is boring - and beyond. I commend Giapo and family, and the wonderful staff for making my every visit fantastic. Beware of trying - or you will end up heavily addicted to Giapo and make too many visits to Gore Street. I wish I could give a 20/5 stars.

Been dying to visit here since a tour guide gave this place a plug, so the whole family tucked in. Great service from the pretty Indian girls, and our selection looked great. Very expensive, but the ice cream itself didn't taste as nice as you'd get at a fraction of the price in a supermarket. Two of us didn't finish it, which is unusual.
L.
It’s the most pricey ice cream I’ve ever tried but it’s pretty good ice cream and the portion is big. We tried to share 2 cones between 4 people and we still couldn’t finish. What’s interesting is that they had all sorts of types and designs of cones that I’ve never seen before. The service was good and we got to try the flavors before making our decision. Please note that the place is cashless.

It was my first visit to the new shop on Gore Street. I wasn't sure what I was expecting but it sure wasn't like the Queen street shop.
You no longer have the ice cream counter right in front, instead you have counters. The kitchen is behind the counters and there are delicious aromas which waft through the shop. The menus are quite descriptive which is nice when you have a range of interesting flavours to choose from.
We ordered and sat outside and they brought our ice cream over to us. The ice cream is tasty and creamy and the toppings gives it that special feel. I also had the special chocolate cone which was chocolately and adds an extra extravagance.
Bit far from the old location but definitely worth the walk down.
Tried the butterscotch pie and it was tasty but it would have been nicer if the pie was warmed before serving.
A.
A beautiful place to have an ice cream with some amazing staff to make your experience unique. The hospitality is amazing. Also the way they serve you ice creams is very unique. They have a variety of flavors to choose from with some astonishing cones. You can have 3D printed ice creams as well, sculptured into various forms.
H.
Incredible service. They really know how to make you feel special. Great Dairy free options that are exciting to try. Thank you.
R.
If you were looking for ice cream with a twist and over the top, this is the place to be! Be prepared for a line but it is well worth the wait. They have extraordinary custom cones , to the multiple flavors of ice cream , you will not be disappointed!
D.
I was quite intrigued and excited to see what this place would be like hearing that it almost always has a queue going outside their parlour. When I arrived here there was a queue, and while waiting each of us we were offered chocolates and an ice cream to taste. Then we were given a wonderful fancy presentation and explanation of each of the ice cream flavours and cone types and each of us were offered all the available flavours of ice creams for tasting. It looked awesome and beautiful. However when it came to the taste of ice creams and cones itself they were fine but weren't the best.
It was a enjoyable experience on the whole that's worth it and fun if you do it just once or a few times in your life. I wouldn't eat ice cream from here regularly as the taste doesn't live up to the high price.
U.
My favorite go-to place for gelato in Auckland CBD! Fast service and really cheap. You can taste all the flavours before you decide. My personal favorite is hokey pokey
D.
What a really interesting experience here. Giapo certainly isn't your typical ice cream shop. When we first got here around 9 PM the place was packed with people, so we were pretty excited.
The lady who served us gave us a brief breakdown of the menu and what flavour come with each option. The cheapest ice cream is $14, and they can go up to $36 which is quite expensive. It would have been nice to have pictures of the ice creams in the menu just to give you an idea of what you are getting yourself into. The ice creams, are weird, to say the least. The ones we ended up ordering were probably the least weirdest compared to what you could get, as you can see in the pictures. Wait times can be long if busy, we waited around 10-15 minutes to get our order, on top of waiting 10 minutes to be served because it was packed.
The ice creams are not just for show, they are pretty damn delicious and they also have some gluten free options. If you are looking for just a simple straightforward ice cream place, then this is probably not the place for you. I would recommend checking the place out if you want ice cream, with a whole heap of art in it.
J.
One of the best ice cream so far made in newzealand. They change flavours quite often. Thats the good point. 41 dollars for 4 cups. Guys, worth your money you pay. Staff was more than welcome to let me and my friends try all flavours before we made our decision. Love it!!! Love the flavour love the ice cream decoration. Must try.
J.
I've been here quite a few times and enjoyed the ice cream a lot. Its cool how they have special/unique cones like the one shaped like a squid, or the sky tower one, etc. The only thing that's annoying is their new app... you can order off the app and its suppose to be cheaper and faster but the app is quite clunky in my opinion. Nevertheless, this is still a good place to go if you're looking for a unique dessert
G.
Interesting ice cream experience. There was approximately a 20 minute wait when visiting on a Saturday evening. The crew were fantastic and were offering chocolate and ice cream samples while we waited in the line.
The reason for the wait in the line is that they have a tasting option where you can trial each of the flavours that are on offer. If you know what you want or you only want to try one or two flavours you may be able to jump the queue which is what we did. Lots of different options when it comes to how the ice cream is served. There are some interesting ones that make eating a little more of a challenge.
The flavours are different. I had an NZ standard hokey pokey however also had taro which was very interesting and unexpected.
Fun place but not a go in and out quickly experience. Take your time. Enjoy. We did.
V.
A high end ice cream shop that’s located near the CBD with easy access from downtown. It’s a luxurious experience from waiting in line to get in the store, to the full tasting experience, to the payment and collection at the end.
The line seems quite long but when I went late during the weekend, there were 20 people ahead of me but it only took 15-20 minutes to get through the line. They hand out chocolates and explain the tasting process as you wait.
Once they bring you inside the store, they do it by groups of ~6 people where they bring out a small cup of each flavor they offer and they give everyone around the table popsicle sticks to scoop out from the cup. One stick per flavor, no reuse allowed to keep everything sanitary. No flavor remorse and you can even try a flavor twice to double check.
The offer the flavors in a variety of cones from octopus to selfie frames. I came after dinner and wanted a relatively small bit of ice cream so ordered the kissing lips which has the flavor loaded around a solid block of dark chocolate in the shape of a lip. Loved the dark chocolate outside and the filling inside. A little messy but nothing a couple napkins couldn’t handle.
O.
Beautiful & tasty ice cream!
The first thing to notice is the queue from outside the shop, which tells you there is something special about the place.
Beautifully decorated and designed ice cream and cones are visible as soon as you walk in, and they taste good too. You can also taste the many different flavors they have.
The service is quit fast and the staff is patient considering the amount of people there,
The reason i didn't give this place 5 Stars is the fact that it's a bit overpriced - the most basic ice cream starts at 8NZD for 1 scoop in a paper cup and the specially designed ice cream + cones can cost you about 30NZD).
Recommended when visiting Auckland!
l.
Has good varieties for Gelato lovers. Open only on weekends - starting Friday evening. Expect to be disappointed if you chose to go there on weekdays.
m.
This is no ordinary ice cream shop, don't go here expecting to get a cheap ice cream you go here for i the delicious experience and to give your taste buds an explosion, you don't see the ice cream it's all about the flavour combinations and trusting the judgment. In my pictures o got he chocolate hard cup, coat extra but so well worth it.

"Probably one of the best desserts I've ever had and I'm a sweet tooth" - quote from my wife. Seriously good!!
T.
Ice cream is more than just a dessert at Giapo in Gore Street. It’s art. It’s a celebration of imagination and passion. But most importantly, it’s downright delicious. Everyone should get a cone here, at least once. For my foodie plant-based friends in the house, there are always a couple of insanely good vegan options on the menu. One lick will have you scratching your head as to how this sorcery could come about without traditional ice cream ingredients - think coconut cookies and cream or the perfect creamy hazelnut drool. It’s typically pretty busy, but don’t let the line deter you...wait patiently and you’ll transcend into pure foodie bliss come your turn. You’re welcome. Super unique ice cream spot. Most of the options are huge so eat a light dinner or split with someone. All of the ice cream options are gluten free. This is definitely a place for millennials and foodies, not young kids or those with picky palettes.
S.
Definitely recommend great service aswell best ice cream in town!!
J.
The staffs are very friendly and explain the icecream very well. If you wait a line for waiting, the staff let you try chocolate or water. even after getting ice cream, they take care of customers like giving them wipes and water. Ice cream was good and alittle bit too sweet some point.
the staffs smiled and made customers feel good:)
C.
Interesting concept store but a little too expensive at minimum $13-15 for a ice cream in cone and goes up to $30+ for the special theme ones.
It was too sweet in my opinion and we had to throw away the chocolate outer coating and the chocolate cups we paid for.
E.
Awesome and a must do (and taste) when visiting Auckland. Not like any other ice cream shop you have ever been to. Complimentary tastings, great flavors and friendly staff. Can't wait to go again 😋
L.
So the price is extreme! $40 for two ice cream but OMG was it delicious!! I had a massive gluten-free, dairy-free chocolate peanut butter amazingness! We'd go back for sure. A must visit!
H.
Unique concept. Fresh ingredients. Great presentation.
Best thing - the helpful and thorough staff members!
We tried the NZ hokey pokey flavour and coconut chocolate cookie something.
J.
Giapo is not a simple ice cream shop - it is a full ice cream and chocolate experience. This is a no-rush atmosphere even with a line stretching out the door. The accommodating staff will explain their entire crafting process to you, they will treat you to a taste of every single ice cream flavor, and they will demonstrate how your frozen treat will be presented within an each-more-elaborate-than-the-last cone creation.
Never in my life have I seen ice cream glorified like this, and the extravagance is not to be missed. Yes, it is expensive. Go for date night or a special occasion and let yourself be impressed.
E.
This place is a high end ice cream place. You are treated like a VIP 😁 Before you select your ice cream, you will get to test little portions from all of their flavors (approx 12) One of the ladies will explain on each and every flavor. You can select the cone you prefer , add toppings etc. Everything is well organized here. And the most important part is 'You get tasty ice cream for what you spend'. The prices are fine. 25NZ$ minimum for 2. But you get a good quantity. Worth!!! Recommend. 😎
C.
If you love ice cream you MUST NOT miss this unique experience in Auckland. It really is an experience. Expect a line...though it moves fast as each person is taken on a journey of their tantalizing flavours. Leaving with an artistically designed sweet treat.
J.
Real good ice creams at great prices. Fantastic service and real friendly and helpful. Would eat here again.
K.
One of my favorite places in Auckland! Definitely the coolest and most unique ice cream shop experience I’ve ever had. You get to sample all of the flavors so you know exactly what you’re ordering. I got the Christchurch Hazelnut and it was amazing, tastes just like Ferrero Rocher. This place is a must visit for sure!
M.
When I first saw the menu & prices, I almost walked out. It seemed exorbitant.
BUT IT IS SO AMAZING. The experience is so worth it. They bring you in, a dedicated staff member brings you a sampler of all the ice cream flavors, they explain each one, and then you can choose from a variety of ways to consume it. I chose a sandwich of sorts, which gave me two delicious “half” sandwiches, each with its own flavor of ice cream.
Well worth the visit. Trust me.
F.
Love Love! Best ice cream I ever had in my life !!! It took me back to my memories from Amalfi Cost:) Every-time I come in the city I get an ice cream :) I just wish they would be open one extra day during the week as it gets so busy!!
V.
In terms of service: 5 stars
In terms of ice cream: 4.5 stars - too messy to be eaten!
Overall, definitely a novel experience as they let you taste every flavours before buying. Furthermore, they also provide you with a range of funny and weird cones to choose from!
C.
If you are the first time customer, they will introduce you their ice cream and let you taste every flavor. If you know what you are going to order already, you can skip the introduction and go to the direct order line around the corner. Very good service and very fancy ice cream.
S.
Gourmet ice cream outlet. One of the unique and good tasting ice cream I had in a while. Also, you get a great variety of edible cups or cones to go along with it (they cost extra). Standard ice cream is served with paper cup. There is a unique cone called the selfie cup which has a edible selfie frame attached to the cone. I went for the Waffle Cone and flavor I went with was Roast & Smoke (Coffee flavor with single malt whiskey).
Mind you its on expensive side but the ice cream experience is totally unique !! Go get one for yourself
b.
So we went for a walk and reached Giapo. Giapo seves lots of vegan and eggfree icecreams. We tasted ice creams and were ready to place our order. But then the girl at the counter told us that they don't accept cash and only cards work. We didn't carry any card so we asked her if she can swipe her card and we will pay her. She asked us to wait and got our ice cream and said it is on the house. We insisted her to take cash but she refused and said enjoy. We were pleasantly surprised. The ice cream was yummy. And best it was free for us. What a wonderful memory Giapo gave us. Thank you. This is real customer service. They didn't let the customer go back empty handed. Highly recommend.
S.
I have been wanting to go to Giapo's Behind the Scenes experience for months now, and finally went yesterday! It did not disappoint at all, we were given a very, very generous portion of ice-cream and chocolate and it was fascinating to learn more about one of the best gelato places in New Zealand.
C.
At first i was a little weary of how well they'll do since moving from Queen St, for a little while i felt the way they presented/taste tested their ice cream was a little odd - they bring the ice cream out from the back so you can only pick from the menu. So as a visual person the experience wasn't as good, esp with how pricey their ice cream was to begin with. Then recently we went back, and either it was the waitress who served us, or they've changed their service - but it has vastly improved, they brought all their ice creams out in little pottles and gave us plenty of time to test each flavor and decide (trust me you'll need all that time to decide cuz their flavors dont disappoint). Then they've also brought out edible cup - edible cups! They've always had them as cones and ive always wanted to try them but was never a cone person.... now they've got an extra option for the less abled im so much more satisfied! That being said, i still only gave it 4 stars because really.... spending $20 on an icecream is a bit steep right...? Nonetheless still a great enjoyment.
B.
The ice cream quality is only rivaled by its presentation, and it's presentation is unrivalled!
Your first visit you are invited to taste all the flavours, and are shown possible options for how it's served. It would take a long time to try all combinations.
I only wish I could visit more often!
Z.
They really are unbeatable! The best! We did the chef's table for my husbands Birthday in May and I told Giapo it was a surprise and they did it all for me, even managed to accommodate us in their busy schedule. Annarosa and Giapo were the most amazing hosts, their love, energy and passion for what they do was infectious. The ingenious ideas behind each finely crafted and flavourful explosion of desserts was incomparable. I make sure every tourist I come across goes to Giapo before leaving NZ.
M.
Tried their dark chocolate cone and salted caramel. Taste was good. Presentation was very good they made ice cream cones look beautiful.
G.
This was the most amazing ice cream experience I've ever had! Whatever you order will be a delectable work of art. I wish I lived in Auckland so I could come here every day. The staff is also amazing - they walk around checking on guests, offering water, wet wipes, and free shortbread. Such hospitality!!!
T.
Staff were so friendly towards everyone. This great little place had queues out the door for more than an hour that we were there. The colossal squid is a nice gimmick but I probably wouldn't order it again. It wasn't bad, just unnecessary.
I wish there were a size between the standard and the mini. It is a lot of ice cream!
The flavours were more limited than I expected. Would be good to see some more interesting varieties.
O.
I'm a skeptic for trends but I was a fool! It's been a long time coming for me to finally try out Giapo. The experience itself was worth the wait and money. I grew up in the streets of Manila eating ice cream in a sandwich and to my surprise they had an option for my ice cream to be inside Maori bread! There could be no other way. I'm getting that! And it was glorious 😍
I am coming back for more.
K.
A must visit! Innovative ice cream (it's more than just ice cream!) and incredible service. Menu continuously changing but, there are always vegan options. You can't go wrong with any of the flavours - give a few a try before you make a final decision. Highly recommend!
S.
We visited Giapo on a Saturday night and had to queue for a short time. Once inside we were treated to 8 tastings. From there our amazing creations were delivered. Our large creations would’ve been suitable to share if we were in a sharing mood. The staff were lovely and even popped outside to see if anyone needed a wet wipe. Which admittedly we did on this summer evening. Takeout boxes are supplied for the large chocolate add ons.
R.
What an experience! After being ushered in you are given a detailed tasting of all of the flavours on offer. This gives the opportunity for some great interactions with your fellow visitors. You are then able to choose the flavour you prefer which is then garnished with a unique topping. Absolutely recommend, and it is a fantastic time for kids.
D.
Giapo does a brilliant job of combining interesting and unique flavours, with the ultimate luxe experience. The ice cream is rich and creamy, each flavour comes with its own set of toppings, and you can choose something really over the top for that perfect Instagram photo, like a selfie through a chocolate frame. I do enjoy how the staff bring out a range of flavours to try, before you decide on which one is for you. This is not your average ice cream store, it doesn’t have your typical flavours. The chocolate evolution was a stand out, incredibly decedent. Must try ice cream in Auckland CBD.
D.
Delicious ice cream where you get to taste different sorts of flavors before you order the ones you like. They will give you a full debrief of the ice cream flavors as well as all sorts of the super cool corns they have. You will be amazed of the variety of corns they offer.
M.
Best ice cream hands down. As soon as you enter the parlour, you are greeted instantly by staff and explained how the business works.
Firstly you are offered a taste of all 11 flavours with explanations of the ice cream and how the creator decided on the flavours.
You can go for a plain scoop on a cup or a cone although if your not a local, highly recommended going all out and ordering a sculpture. It's expensive although you won't see a place like this in the world.
T.
Had a lovely time at Giapo they definitely focus on the dessert experience. We'll be visiting again.
You can choose from a variety of favours, add on toppings and cones.
It was our first time visiting, so they give you samples of any and all the ice creams to choose your favourite.
Although seemingly pricey, it's worth the cost as it's not an every day infringement
U.
Very unique ice cream place. Worth a visit in my book.
M.
Taste the ice cream before you purchase. A great way to decide the flavour of your ice cream. The creation by Giapo are exquisite. Must try if in Auckland. Not many seats are available inside the shop but there's seating outside. Best ice cream tasted and by far the best
I.
This is possibly the most expensive ice cream place I've been to, however they do a pretty good job to justify the cost. The service is top notch, they patiently explain everything about their ice cream just like a fine dine-in place. And most importantly the ice cream is amazing. You can definitely tell that they use fresh ingredients and it is super rich. A must visit for all ice cream lovers.
d.
That’s a nice treat for us. Thanks Giapo for your great ice cream .
Parking is just 5 minuets free. Park your car in any private parking nearby to eat ice cream relaxing way.
J.
Be aware!!! You'll face a big dilemma on which flavor to choose from. Every flavor I tasted satisfied every taste buds. Definitely a place I'd frequent now. Love the courteous staff too.
C.
If thick creamy sweet gelato is your thing then this is your place. A handful of daily flavors that you have to taste (not visible) at the counter. So your experience may take a bit. Comes with complimentary toppings (marshmello plus more sweet toppings) that made it overly sweet to my tastebuds, in my opinion. Couldn't finish a regular cone.
g.
Grubby photos, but everything here is gourmet as heck; you truly get what you pay for, bc everything is absolutely phenomenal 😭😖😍
EDIT: I know Giapo is an obsession when I come twice a week - every single thing on the menu is absolutely amazing and perfect and just makes me so happy to be alive omg I can’t!!! Side note, their cones are properly addictive but these babies are huge and filling so just be warned children
K.
Amazing staff and great flavours. I ordered my ice cream with a roti wrap, totally not what I was expecting as the roti was really hard and chewy & hard to swallow with the ice cream just falling out in the first bite. I have grown up eating mums rotis and this definitely was not to standard, I understand changes have to be made to accommodate the ice cream but I’m sure it can be done better than what was served given they charge so much for it.
T.
Very good unique ice cream flavors. They were very helpful explaining the ice cream flavors and variations you could get. Loved there was a surprise in each bite. From the toasted meringue and hazelnuts to the chocolate layer on bottom. Had a great experience!
J.
4 stars if you like experimental/unique flavours and don't mind waiting to get your turn. 3 stars for the likes of me that just want a nice ice cream fix on a hot summer day. 2 stars for the ones that prefers non fusion type flavours. Also, you got to eat it quick by the time you get your ice cream as they melt quickly in the Auckland summer heat.
L.
Delicious and generous servings! The one I had was very messy (chocolate powder everywhere!) but worth it! The taste testing before you order is a nice touch, I actually ended up ordering something different than I had originally planned. Will definitely come again if I visit Auckland again!
E.
Very good service and unique ice creams , definitely worth to try 👍
They gave us all the ice creams selection to taste first before we chose which one
And they keep asking us whether we need drinks and serve wet tissue and paper tissue back and forth ...
S.
The experience is good, the vendors doing a great job. Good ice creams but compared to home made one in France in places such as Lyon (Nardone), it misses a star. Extremely popular, be ready to queue...
g.
The best ice cream place I've ever been to, and I consider myself very experienced in this area.
I want to point out that this is a unique experience, different from any other ice cream shop. You get called to a register area from the main line, and from there you get your own person helping you. Instead of a big glass case showing the flavors, you just rattle off every flavor on the menu you're interested in and you'll get to try half a shot glass of each. Then, you pick your flavors and if you want to splurge, a platter or cone for it to be served on. See photos.
I managed to go late Sunday night, so there wasn't a line, but on a warm summer day I can't imagine how long the line would be.
L.
Very expensive designer ice-cream cones. The wait was longer than we were told, "less than 5 minutes" became over 10 minutes. Nothing overly fantastic about the flavour. It's all about how awesome they look and a bit pricey.
H.
It is no secret that I love icecream and Giapo was definitely one of most unique experiences with icecream that I've had. First the let people enter in smaller groups to go through and taste all the flavors that have avalible. Try everything! Once you've decided on your flavour(s), make sure to consider the toppings accompanying the icecream as well, you choose how you want to eat it. They have done of different options, I went with a dark chocolate bronze cone with mine.
Service was great, experience was awesome, went earlier in the day so a very short line to get in. The only negative thing I'd have to say is that the dark chocolate on my cone was pretty dark. They did advertise this though, so more as a consideration if you're not 100% into dark chocolate. Otherwise awesome experience would totally go back!
M.
Giapo "The Colossal Squid!!!" This masterpiece was an inspiration from the colossal squid at Te Papa Museum .The whole body was created using 3D printing technology and the tentacles and fins are hollow rather than solid – to avoid death by chocolate!
It took an astounding 18 months to create this masterpiece wammy which sits on top of the cone.A must try one a kind creation which tastes even better than it looks.
The icecream could be chosen from a variety of artisan hand crafted flavours.
Kofe Samoa Icecream
Miller's coffee with koko Samoa
Dark Chocolate coated waffle cone with nuts and dehydrated raspberries coated in gold dust.
D.
The ice cream is nice, but very overpriced for what it is. And because the ice cream is so overpowering in taste and sweetness it's hard to get through even one scoop. My partner and I consider ourselves ice cream fanatics and have tried all the popular ice cream places in Auckland. If your looking for quality and affordability I would steer more towards movenpick, if you want novelty for awesome Instagram pics then Giapo is the place for you! One thing I will say about Giapo is that they have excellent customer service 💙
F.
Gimmicky. This place exists for those Instagram likes. Their is nine choices of flavour, with various toppings..lots of pigeons in the outdoor seating area. Enjoyed the free sparkling water. Would have liked a tap to wash hands. Not somewhere you should go wearing nice trousers
T.
They have truly perfected the experience here. I love having my own guide to walk you through the menu and taste every ice cream they offer. And the flavors were all fantastic. They made it hard to decide which one to get.
n.
This is one of the best ice cream I have ever tried and hats off to the creators for the unique combinations. The flavor and presentation were remarkable and one of my best memories of Auckland. I tried the chocolate evolution and it was yummy. They also have so many options for cones to go with their ice creams that I was stunned by it. I even asked them to come to Sydney. I am looking forward to visit Auckland just for Giapo😊😊
W.
Best customer service I've ever experienced. The ice cream was awesome. Definitely will go there again.
K.
Oh my God! Most amazing icecream ever! I'd been told that NZ icecream is particularly creamy, but that was something else.
Trying to pick a flavour was so difficult because everything looked and tasted amazing.
The queue can be discouraging and the price difficult to justify, but if you're there on holiday, just do it.
S.
Giapo himself and his staff were very hospitable and helped as with our every need. Lots of free taste testing and complementary water as we waited for our ice cream. Never have I experienced such great service at a gelateria. My mum has many dietary requirements. Giapo looked after her very well. Often dietary requirements are a burden for some, but he made us feel very welcomed and spent extra attention, making sure we were happy. Even though the lines were out the door the service was impeccable and very fast. Giapos creations are amazing, they taste as good as they look and worth the price too.
G.
Best ice cream I've had in a very long time, all house made, and the cones were unreal. Skip the line that ALWAYS forms outside, download the app, go through sign up procedures, order through the app, and you will have your ice cream in 10 minutes versus 25-30 minutes
v.
Amazing!!!!! So worth the wait in the queue, they even give out tasting chocolate. The flavours are all delicious and it’s great to be able to try them before you decide which one you would like. The extra add ons are incredible and so creative! It cost about $34 for both our ice creams but was a fun food experience! Recommend!
L.
Giapo is known for doing things a bit differently. They have a changing selection of gelato flavors that range from fairly standard (but still fancy) to the weird and wonderful. More recently they have added interesting cones, containers, and artistic delivery means for the ice cream (including finger cones, selfie cone, and the sky tower). They come beautifully presented and the are normally a few vegan options. The fried bread (pictured) with hazelnut espresso ice cream and chocolate was very nice.
Why not 5 stars? It's pretty expensive and the pre-purchase tasting show is perhaps a bit over the top (and causes queues and a bit of a wait).
S.
Yes, it is as good as everybody says! No wait on a Sunday around 7 pm, if you are looking to have a nice dessert. As I was by myself I didn’t get he whole tasting experience, which was a bit sad, but I still could try two flavors to decide which one I wanted to buy. Coffee & hazelnut in a Yorkshire pudding for me! Delicious and gigantic! I’ll be back, and hopefully next time with more people so I get the whole spiel.
S.
Good ice cream, but not the best I ever had. I would recommend this place tho. Staff was very friendly. Should give a standar cone for free. Don't know why it cost extra for a standard cone. Free tasting of their flavors and chocolate. Thanks.
K.
They took service and ice cream to the next level! These ice cream are unique. Have to try it at least once. Our server was very profesional. She describe and every ice cream so prefectly.
D.
One of the best I have ever been. They sell really good the experience and you can try all the flavours.
Attention was awesome and I think really worth to see it and try it if you are in the city
I recommend it 100%!!!
E.
Such friendly staff, and the tastiest ice-cream ever. They had a full range of vegan ice-cream which was amazing! They also let you try whatever flavours you want before buying. A little pricey, but it's worth it.
T.
Even it is its busy I always make time for Giapo when visiting Auckland. The creativity and story behind the ice cream and flavours is truly apparent when you taste their creations. Staff are always extremely friendly and take the time to discuss the flavours and various cones available to you. They have a number of gluten free and vegan options available for those with dietary requirements and taste testing available for those who haven't been before.
K.
I love to eat ice cream and found the unique place with a various options. I tried Afghan cookies & loved it. They offers mouth wondering flavors a must visit place for ice cream lovers. 😍
D.
Yes, the ice cream taste great, but you are here for the experience, that is the point, it is a different experience, Instagram worthy.
Update. I had the king of cones and it is amazing, couldn't finish by my self, but I was close.
A.
Wow! Great experience and amazing ice cream.
This is a premium location for ice cream but it was well worth it. A server will go through a thorough tasting with you to help build your dessert and then you are served it to eat in the patio or take away.
I would recommend an item off the standard menu with one flavor in a cup or basic waffle cone for anyone's first visit. Thats the best way to experience the gourmet ice cream as it was made to be eaten and the portion is just right.
N.
More of an experience than an ice cream parlor. The ice cream flavour selection is ok, but not something spectaculars. The cup options are a bit more entertaining - you could get one in a solid chocolate cone, or in a fried pastry. All in all they're tasty, just not spectacular.
M.
Really creative and neat place. You can skip the tutorials if you’ve been before and just want to order. Otherwise, the tutorial is a fun tourist thing to do. The ice cream was good overall and the place is funky and fun to check out.
M.
This ice creams are so delicious and unique! I went two days in a row:) the giapo bueno is amazing and reccomend 100%.
P.
My favorite ice cream 🍨
A.
Reached there at 10pm but still a long queue. Staff was very nice who recommended us to try the ice cream experience if it was our first time visit, but we decided to go for the short cut. Most of the ice cream flavours were rich and creamy base, we chose the Christmas bell (even though Christmas had passed). Wondering what would surprise us during the 15 minutes wait, then here it came. A reverse cone imaging as a bell, coffee and hazelnut ice cream coated with white chocolate, size wasn’t as huge so it was just right for dessert after dinner. Wanted to try the self cone but it was sold out.
C.
Lovely ice-cream, a tab too sweet for my personal taste but still very good ice cream. Service was very good and they explain and let me taste almost every single flavor.
R.
I Loved this place like a turist point. It's interesting the way that the ice cream is sell! The ice cream flavour is amazing but the price is too expensive. So... it is a good freezen experience!!
H.
Gelato was of quality with perfect texture and correct intensity of sweetness but definitely not the best as flavors were not as pronounced as it should be, salted caramel amaretto had hardly any taste of amaretto, for example. Surprisingly different orders came with cones of different flavors as well as texture meaning they were not all made with the same batch of batter - mine was almond flavored and crunchy to the bite but my husband's was syrupy/eggy and flaky. Also a bonus was that the artistic components were made with dark chocolate of good quality, not the cheap stuff as you would expect just for decorative purposes. It was the priciest ice cream experience but they were actually not overpriced seeing the creativity, labor and quantity of ingredients required for each order. Staff was friendly and helpful. Queue was long but moved fast enough thanks to sufficient number of staff. This was a one-time thing for us because we went there obviously just for some nice photos. Just after a few shots mine with selfie frame melted much faster than I could eat and the other one with Sky Tower was not a practical thing to eat either especially on a windy day even we were given a box to keep the decorations while eating the ice cream.
S.
Amazing Ice cream must have if you’re visiting Auckland
A.
Fantastic creative ice cream! Very imaginative combinations. They are not just scooped, they are crafted. Vegan varieties are available too. The line was out the door but worth the wait. Fabulous place to stop in on a Sunday afternoon. Thanks to Elle from Big Foody Tours for introducing me to this great spot in the Aucklabd CBD.
J.
This place was magical! There’s a reason some of the ice cream cost as much is $45. Go for the selfie cone. It’s a winner!
K.
At Giapo you don't just get icecream, you get an experience!
From the moment you walk through the door the staff are so warm and friendly. There was a bit of a queue but we were given complimentary chocolate while we waited and the line moved quickly.
The staff were so knowledgeable and patient while we sampled every single flavour and you could tell they were very passionate about their product.
The icecream itself is very rich and delicious, and so beautifully presented its very hard to choose!
I will definitely be back and recommend it to all visitors to Auckland 🍦🍧
A.
Giapo's come a long way. Would have loved to stop by to try more flavors more often but it's quite often a rich meal on its own! Lol
N.
The flavours are all unique. Tasty. However, too too sweet for me. It is pricey but the portion is big. The reason I m not giving 5 stars is because yup it's too sweet. But the experience is nice and the staffs are good. Try it guys.
A.
Best ice cream I’ve ever had hands down - well maybe tied with gelato in Italy. But worth the extra coin - just be prepared to pay at least $20 for an incredible dessert. Super vegan friendly too 😊
F.
The wait is definitely worth it! Nothing compares to the full experience of having the flavours explained to you and everyone in your group getting to try each and every flavour. They are so inventive and creative with flavours here, my all time favourite must be the bueno. If you are short on time, many people do not realise that there is a fast lane counter around the corner outside if you are dead set on a particular ice cream. Warning it can get messy while eating these creations, but there are plenty of napkins and wet wipes inside
L.
Such delicious, fun, and innovative ice creams! They even have dairy free and vegan options (like the one in the photo). I recommend not going on a full stomach as they are generous sizes and too good not to finish!
L.
You have to come here! Some of the best gelato and creatively served. Yes, it's expensive but you get what you pay for. Simply yum!
R.
One of the best and most unique ice creams I ever had. This place is definitely one of the best in Auckland. The staff are very friendly and treat you well. There are also ample of selections and are so so tastyyy!
Might spend some time waiting but definitely worth it!!
M.
Not the best ice cream I ever had but the toppings are fantastic, work of art, very impressive.
A.
Really friendly staff. Good service. Unique flavours and creations.
I tried the NZ hokey pokey and the Giapo buono in the same cup.
And the other is a ice cream that is put into a Maori style bread. It was really good
z.
Delicious ice cream, very well organised shop there is an introduction for the ice cream types and you can have a taste of each type.
Giapo also have a dairy products free ice cream, and the guys in the shop will asked you if you have any allergy problems of milk or chocolate.
I can say Giapo is innovative and they are variety of ice cream types that you can choose from.
The price is not really expensive and the location doesn't have a parking zone.
However, you will enjoy your ice cream and you can help your self with the sparkling water in the shop.
The order doesn't take more than 15 minutes to be ready, while that you can wait inside the shop or out side as there is many seats.
Highly recommend for a real test of ice cream in Auckland City.
V.
Good ice cream shop, friendly staff, but the sweetest ice cream I have ever tried! My friend and I ordered different flavor, but we both cannot stop drinking water. Probably suitable for those who have a sweet mouth.
K.
Normal Ice cream is boring, Giapo's is amazing, Petal sharing ice cream or something from the menu. It's all brilliant
L.
If you want an ice cream experience then this is the place to be. Beware though as it all comes at a cost. Great ice-cream though if you are willing to part with your cash.
V.
Arguably the best ice cream I have ever had. And I am a huge ice cream fan. I love coconut so I got the coconut milk base cookies one dipped in dark chocolate. It was so good we came back again on the way to the airport!
M.
Finally tasted the famous Giapo, welcomed with the tiny cups to try which gave an ultimate sweet tooth experience.
M.
Impressive. Fantastic service and unique flavours.
I had the Kiwifruit and Coriander one and my partner had the Coco and Choc Cookies one. Both of them simply amazing.
L.
This takes ice cream to a whole new level. Rather than just getting some delicious ice cream to eat, they've turned it into a whole experience from being served individually, tasting flavors out of shooter glasses to well decorated ice cream.
Yes prices are pretty steep, a single scoop in a waffle cone cost us $12. Great for the experience but to have it regularly, probably not.
B.
Okay we tried the kumara ice cream today, not my favourite but I commend them on their creativity! Don't worry they do have some other flavours that are really beautiful 😉 Something to suit most people's preferences, fruity, chocolate, caramel, etc. They come in either a cone or a cup, with a delicious topping suited to whatever ice cream type you choose. Ice cream really well done.
S.
Best icecream in New Zealand!!
Even if you have to wait about 30 min in the afternoon untill you will get your icecream it's just a "must go to" if you like icecream.
M.
I have never been to a store that shows more passion, care and enthusiasm about their product. Each customer is talked to personally and walked through their menu. They are also given samples of every flavour and then, only once they are properly educated, you will order.
Even with the amazing explanation, I was still shocked when my Ice cream came out.
L.
Arrived after 13 hours on a plane, two more from the airport, shuttle then car rental...we were exhausted and found this lovely oasis of yum!
Ordered The Colossal Squid filled with Hokey Pokey ice cream and Paraoa Pari filled with Hokey Pokey ice cream, caramel, hazelnut and pralines!!!
I love this place!!!! Love!!!
S.
This place takes ice cream to whole new level! Maybe it’s not really for everyone who is looking for a quick fix on a hot summer day like you would for cheap McDonalds soft serve but there is so much more to it!
The art, creativity and technology involved are what made this place so special and also that comes through to the flavours you taste that are made with proud quality New Zealand produce.
I took my friends from Perth there to try it out and they were utterly mind blown! One of them is a chocoholic. She ordered Cher’s chocolate flavour (infamously named after the world-class singer who apparently got obsessed with this ice cream since she last visited there). My dear, sweet friend gave me the look after she had the first bite of it that expression that she was so in awe. It was such a precious memory we shared just having ice creams!
My favourite item has to be the selfie cone! Can you imagine an ice cream that enables you to go on with the current trend shamelessly?
There is one made just for that!(also the entire piece is completely edible whether to eat there now or takeaway for later is up to your judgment).
What impressed me even more is also the customer service and the friendliness that their staff made you feel. They take so much pride in what they do with kindness to share special experiences if you request for a little glimpse in their back kitchen when they it’s not too busy they will welcome you with a smile! The staff named Umasha made my friends feel like VIPs when they got to see a bit the back operation!
Overall, I’m super happy to put this as highlight on my friends itinerary of what Auckland has to offer.
My advice is to order an array special items and share because they could be quite heavy but there are some small items available too if not keen on sharing.
If you are in Auckland and open for an opportunity to have fun, and to feel “enriched” physically and mentally you should not miss this place!
P.
We went on our friend's recommendation after dinner and despite being completely stuffed, ordered a double scoop and a single scoop cone each.
We had imagined that we will just be getting gelato off the interesting menu we were studying while in the queue. Little did we know, once we got to the front of the line, we were split into groups and the server basically talk us through the history of giapo and gave all of us tasting of every available flavor there was!
It was brilliant and a completely amazing experience! They have some of the most special flavors!
N.
Best ice cream in Auckland. Love the taste simplicity and satisfying serving size..
C.
The gelato was absolutely amazing - decadent, beautiful, and a life changing experience for your taste buds. The gelato menu items were very visually appealing and detailed! However, I was a little disappointed with the prices, because I went expecting to try the giant squid, but quickly changed my mind to get just a cup after I saw how expensive it was. It’s definitely more of an experience. Regardless, do yourself and your taste buds a favor and go!
Q.
What an experience! Amazing team and meeting Giapo was very cool, such a nice guy and passionate about his craft. Everything is gluten free and celiac safe and super delicious, I couldn't recommend it more.
N.
Can't see flavours you pick. Nice idea, but wasn't a fan. Also say they only use seasonal fruits so all flavours were chocolate-caramel creamy types. But they were definitely delicious!!
C.
This has been on our to try list for ages and finally we got to have it. It definitely exceeds all expectations. We absolutely loved it. Great customer service and the ice cream was very delicious. We didn't really like the cone but everything else was superb 😊🥰 Will definitely go there when we are in Auckland next. A definite must try 😊
K.
Top service, amazing ice cream definitely recommend.
P.
The waiter was great and passionate, and served quite a few samples to us, the favors of ice cream were really tasty and the design of cones was awesome and worth a try!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND. #NotYourEverydayIceCream
P.
Love this place! They will give you small tasting selection so you can pick the best flavor. Bit pricy but as once in a while experience it's worth it 🤩 beautiful Icecream art craft for insta pics lovers 😉
W.
Ice cream is delicious, a little pricey. They are creative though.
A.
Those who say Giapo is not worth it dont understand. Its worth every penny, the experience you get at the store is amazing. It is worth lining up and getting explanations about each flavor and tasting small amounts of each to make the final decision, I highly commend the person who gave us the course, he was funny and very passionate about Giapo and the experience that they want to provide. The afgan is divine, The cornflakes coated with sweet syrup and a whole afgan cookie is the best topping. I recommend trying the afgan atleast once if you are in Auckland, yes it is a calorie bomb but its worth every caloire.
M.
Legit sugar overload but well worth it. Staff friendly and helpful to explain the menu. The taste testing is an added bonus to help you pick your flavour. I was in a food coma for a good hour and a half.
A.
Not a cheap icecream but you certainly get what you pay for! We waited for 15mins or so and once we got to the front of the line realised it was worth it. We were able to try any flavour icecream we liked and had all our questions answered. The only problem was EVERYTHING is delicious here, so tasting the flavours just made it harder to choose! Ended up with coffee and whiskey flavoured icecream and the giant squid decoration - what an awesome experience!
i.
If you are in Auckland, this place is a must visit. Their ice-creams are out of the world!! Their flavors are crazy and the ice creams are very filling.
This place is a little on the expensive side, but is worth every penny!!
D.
My peanut butter ice cream was amazing!!! The customer service was too from the moment we walked in the door and when we were allowed to try multiple ice cream flavours! Definitely worth the trip thanks Giapo 🥵🍨
A.
Both buying in-store and ordering through the app were smooth and in general pleasant experience. The staff is super helpful and friendly, you really feel welcome there! I am usually after less sweet ice-creams, and Christchurch Hazelnut is my favourite ❤
W.
Giapo gelato is outstanding quality, service and vibe. Perfect place, absolutely perfect. Waiting outside for 20 minutes cause of the queue didn't feel like but 5 minutes, their staff constantly walking around offering you hot chocolate, biscuits, little chocolates and what so ever. I almost felt full when it got to our turn to order! So many interesting ideas like donuts on the ice cream! So many cool genius ideas and they all look great! Absolutely you've gotta try it if you're around Auckland! Gave it 4 stars cause the prices are sky-high, also I grew up in the land of Gelato and I couldn't find much similarity to the real gelato I know. That's what makes it original though no? Try it!
C.
Decent fancy and delicious ice cream in Auckland. Their milk flavour was actually really delicious.
S.
Everything is gluten free! Seriously, everything is gluten free (apparently we weren't the only ones in a state of disbelief!). Love this as a dessert place, and so many things to choose from. We will definitely be back.
K.
Such a great ice cream place, hidden gem! Look at it, how could u not want to try this. Priced around 10 dollars but worth it
M.
One of a kind experience, friendly staff, prompt service and free tasters if your stuck in line. Ice cream is incredible too.
T.
While it is overwhelming when you first walk in, the experience is out of this world. It’s anything but “just ice cream”. Everything was wonderful. I also thought it was the best tiramisu I have had, as in EVER. Ok sounding creepy now but it was incredibly delicious. Also wonderful service. Thank you for the lovely experience.
P.
Love it🍦try sesame and pistachio this time. Always enjoy every bite😍
J.
Aucklanders never had ice cream before.
What can you say?
Neither have I Lol
D.
A tourist must- do, amazing ice cream
C.
Probably the best ice cream in New Zealand. There are a tonne of delicious and ever changing flavours, with plenty to satisfy gluten free and vegan foodies.
D.
Very unique shop. It's very small and very busy but the staff does a great job delivering service whilst getting people through the line. The product is high quality. Very creamy and very flavorful. Not real sure how they decide what to put on top of each item but we were all happy with our decisions.
É.
The best and most expensive ice cream I've had. They will let you try all the flavours before choosing.
A.
Giapo brings ice cream to whole new level. It`s not just a delicious treat it`s art. We was there now a few times and can recommend this place to everybody who likes the extraordinary. Yes you pay a bit more than in other places, but you also get so much more and the scoops are massive. There are many vegan options too. it`s just mouth watering. If you can`t decide you can have a taste. My favorite is coconut. I eat many gelato all around the world and this is the only place who can competish with real original Italian Gelato. If you`re in Auckland you`ve to go there. Giapo is love :D
M.
Amazing ice cream flavours with a range of decadent custom toppings, incredible chocolate cones and cups to choose from. Loved that we had a no-pressure, unrushed 'tasting' experience so that we could get the ice cream that we would most enjoy.
Tips:
There's often a pretty sizeable lineup. Come prepared to wait.
We each got 2 scoops in a custom cup. The portion sizes are quite fair and in the end this proved to be more than we really needed. In future we would get 1 each or make best bang for buck and split 1 cup/cone with 2 scoops.
T.
Interesting experience but $20 for an ice cream, probably only during my big day. Very good dark chocolate
L.
Nice selection of ice creams to taste before you decide what to buy. It's worth the waiting in line...
M.
Expensive and not the best ice cream that i've tasted but staff is very good and free tasting
R.
Amazing friendly helpful staff. Extremely tasty ice cream. Out of this world. Expect a queue!
H.
It is a gimmick. It looks and photographed very well but the ice cream itself is not amazing. The service was great, though.
A.
My absolute favorite ice cream shop in Auckland. The servings are huge and the flavors and creative presentation has no equal. Every weekend they have a special collaboration with a chef from the local restaurant area, and the creation is available only on that weekend. I am always on the lookout for their flash releases.
M.
Culinary delight, ice cream is now a form of art, art cream , decadent and sinfully delicious.
J.
Stunning! Absolutely gorgeous taste and presentation - very fancy ice creams indeed!
c.
There is a point when you want to stop eating it then there is a point when you start hating it .. passed both and kept going. This is one of the most delicous and fun ice cream I have ever eaten. The staff is extremely welcoming and lovely. Totally worth the wait, this is a must try if in auckland
S.
Giapo is an artisanal ice-cream boutique with only one outlet in Auckland city. Each customer is served at a station and receives personalized service. You're treated to as many samples as your heart desires and with a merry smile! There are many unique concoctions like avocado ice-cream with a dash of soy sauce. You've got to see it to believe it. Giapo is a must-visit when in Auckland!
C.
Fantastic experience, delicious ice cream! Not the cheapest, but well worthwhile every once in a while.
S.
This place is AMAZING! All the flavors are gluten-free and they have heaps of vegan flavors. A lot of gluten-free and vegan cones. This is the best ice cream you will ever taste! So extra and the experience is fun. Yes, it is expensive, but it's worth going at least once. Flavors often change. I got hazelnut scoop, strawberry and cream scoop, in the incredible cacao nib waffle cone with the toppings from the coconut and cookie flavor. Just wow! Portion is definitely huge, and I shared it with my boyfriend as it would be impossible to finish by myself. It cost us $20.50 which is not bad considering that a normal ice cream shop cost $8-$9 per person. They also give you chocolate while you're waiting and it is vegan and gluten-free!
s.
Delicious ice creams. A little expensive but worth the service and the experience. They let you try all the flavours first to help you choose which one to go for.
G.
Spectacular, above all expectations. FYI they will give you a personal sampling of any flavors desired. They sell out of many flavors prior to close so get there early.
М.
Interesting experience. You can try all tastes before choose. Not standart cons. A little bit expensive, but reasonable. Friendly staff.
J.
Best ice-cream in Auckland and possibly NZ or even the world. Everything invented and possibly made there as well.
Great samples and in house experience. The owner and staff very friendly. AAA+++
j.
Best service, amazing design, delicious ice cream ... at least top 10 in the planet......
S.
This a fun & creative place. Usually a bit of a queue to get in but the staff are pretty good at coming along the line and handing out chocolate pieces to try while you wait. After you get in there's a tutorial about the ice creams which is a funny touristy thing to do. But you can skip the tutorial if you’ve been before and just want to order. The ice cream is excellent overall and the place is fun so well worth checking out.
J.
Never thought buying an ice-cream could be a very satisfying experience. Great flavours and wide range of options to customise to suit your taste.
A.
Interesting experience very personalized process to order the ice cream however it is grossly overpriced for the taste (mediocre) main focus being the presentation
A.
Ultra high end ice cream deserts made to order. Can be long queues and you will wait at least 15 mins for your order to be made if no queue!
M.
Great ice cream. Host gave a good explanation of choices and gave a flight of all flavors to try.
A.
SUPER friendly staff! First timers get to sample ALL flavors. Definitely a treat!
J.
To me, the reputation is overrated. I am not sure why everyone all line in the queue, as ice cream expert, I have to say that is way over sweet. Great ice cream, shall be more focus on the flavor and texture but all I can taste is too sweet but certainly the presentation is looking great! Sure thing if you love so sweet stuff though, then you will love this!
A.
Interesting experience. I enjoyed trying their different combinations of flavours. The cones are fun to look at but we opted for the more traditional cone for the convenience of eating. The ice cream flavours and cones definitely push the boundaries of your ordinary ice cream. They let us sample all their flavours and explained their cone options which was great. They are a bit on the higher price point but a lot of that comes from getting their more elaborate cones so if you are looking for good ice cream and are more on a budget get their classic style cone. The people watching is good here. When we went we avoided a big line as we went during what would be dinner time but I suspect in the summer months it can be pretty busy regardless of time or day. In regards to taste I enjoyed the ice cream more than the cone because they use a different style to maintain the structure. Giapo is just as much about the experience as it is about the ice cream. They want to make ice cream art. I can see this being appealing to some and others not so much. This isn't your traditional ice cream parlour, might not be an all the time kind of place either but worth going to atleast once in a while.
A.
This place blew me away. What amazing creative minds. Love, love, loved the chefs table experience. Total recommend
V.
Shauntae was the most amazing server I have come across yet. Lived in Auckland my whole life and am a hospitality server myself, very genuine and kind. No where else in the hospitality service like it.
I am kind of disappointed with the takeaway service as it’s supposed to be within generally 5 minutes.
A.
Berry... The more I have it the more it taste like tomatoes juice.. But my partner have a hazelnut was very good.
A.
Best icecream in town. Should resurrect their Tiramisu and Salted caramel flavours
S.
Amazing! Both the ice cream and the staff! Thank you for being the sweet topping on a great day. I'm only sorry to live an ocean away!
M.
You pick a flavor, and they flair it up with surprise toppings! Decent gelato, creamy but not too rich.
S.
Truly amazing food. I ordered the takeaway cup of the Afghan ice cream and it was the most delicious dessert I’ve ever tasted. It went well beyond simply ‘ice cream’, as it includes a Afghan cookie and real chocolate chunks throughout. Absolutely incredible.
A.
We were short of time so we took the fast lane and purchased the Seasonal Strawberry which was topped of with little bits of hokey pokey (yum!) and the Giapo Buono held in two servings of Paraoa Parai (amazing Maori fried bread and plenty to share). The staff were passionate and they came around offering clean wipes (much needed!). If ever in Auckland again, we would try the walk-in experience.
T.
It’s unique experience for having ice creams
D.
Biiiiiiig fan is this place. Ice cream is perfectly creamy and tasty, and the toppings add just enough extra flavor/crunch to enhance the ice cream without masking its deliciousness. Very unique ice cream “experience”, as the staff walk you through the flavors and options and explain things to you. Be prepared to spend $10 on an ice cream cone, but it is certainly worth the cost (at least one time). Staff seemed very friendly as well. Initially they brought me the wrong flavor, but quickly replaced it with the correct one. We did have to wait in line for 10-15 minutes, so maybe try to go during off hours to avoid ques.
D.
Great selection of flavors. A bit pricey but worth it.
M.
Amazing atmosphere...very different presentation....yummy ice creams
S.
It was overwhelming experience to try it for first time. We got a friendly n warm welcome from one of the staff named Emma. She served us n made familiar with the menu and offered us to try their all flavors 😋 it was all yummy, but my favorite was coconut nd dark chocolate 🍫. Unfortunately before v could place order it was out of stock. So, there comes a role of Emma where she suggested us to have it dipped in dark chocolate with any of the other avoid v like. Hence v decided to go by her recommendation to have one waffle cone with cookies n cream mixed with coconut ice cream. V loved d end product and it was super yummy 😋 😍. Will definitely visit again to have their dark chocolate.
F.
Very different and delicious icecream
L.
The ice cream is delicious. You are also able to taste all the different flavours before you decide what you want. That was pretty cool. The different ways to create your little ice cream dream are amazing! Google some of the photos and you also wanna eat one of them. It is pretty expensive but worth it. I don't think that you are able to eat such an amazing ice cream ever again. The only negative think that comes to my mind is that the shop is very small and if you want to sit down you really have to hurry up. Its the best when you go there at 2pm when the shop opens. Then you are the first person there and you don't have to wait.
R.
Best seasonal flavours only. Only local ingredients which is conveyed in the title of each flavour. There is a tasting for new customers and a fast lane for customers who know what they want. They dish out new flavours every season. I have been coming here for 4 years now and still is my favourite ice cream stop. Quite expensive but its worth all the money because the servings are huge and delicious. My favourite flavours are avocado and coconut cookies and cream.
R.
Truly an experience - the ice cream was delicious and the staff was super friendly. I wouldn't often pay that much for ice cream but I was left feeling like the product matched the price! Everyone should try this place if they find themselves in downtown Auckland.
F.
Great for the experience, you can taste plenty (all 😋) flavors and they have some fun waffle cones designs.
Price is expensive but considering the experience it's kind of worth it.
However the ice cream is very rich / creamy, good but not the most exceptional one, personally I had a hard time finishing it, so for that reason I put only 4 stars.
F.
I've been always a regular customer. Went today and was really disappointed. No more Afghan ice cream and paper cups?! 💔 I'm really disappointed. That was the best flavour and topping. The lady said the PB brownie ice cream was a close topping to the Afghan. Popcorn and brownie instead of the cornflakes. The popcorn was terrible, soggy and tasteless. In addition they also increased the price to $16 and changed the menu to a really poor design that you can barely read the flavours.
Not worth it. But 5 stars for the service! The girls are awesome!
R.
Delicious halwa icecream
D.
Most delicious icecream I've ever had. Well worth the premium price, I found the whole "one on one" tasting experience with their staff to be a little cringe, but damn... Do they make a tasty product.
J.
Great, freshly made ice creme, with free tastings!
H.
Love the service here. The staff keeps offering water wet tissues and new flavours of the dessert. Obviously the desserts are awesome as well
A.
One of the best ice cream parlor in Auckland. A must visit place. The Ice cream is one of the best experience. All the ice cream you get is very unique, delicious and filling. Great for group even though there is not much seat. There are few outdoor seats. Highly recommended.
M.
Ice cream was good, but nothing too special to pay $10+ for s scoop. At least not for our taste, but obviously people have different tastes. As many people said, it's worth going through the main entrance to get the full experience rather than going to the fast lane if you don't know the taste.
P.
Very red 3D printed ice cream. The store is not big but not difficult to find, the price is not cheap but the weight is quite good.
K.
You can chose so many varieties from flavors, cups, etc. Before deciding your flavor, you can taste 4 different flavors!
P.
Oh my, I first we weren't sure if we should give them a visit because of the price (Around 20 dollars for their amazing cone depends on what you choose) but hey it was one of the most fun ice cream experience seeing all different types of cones and unconventional ice cream flavors! (Don't worry, they still have chocolate) we ordered the selfie cone and took two of us to finish it. Super yummy!
A.
Amazing ice cream art! Infeasible flavours and great service
V.
Unique ice cream... not so many table seatings..
M.
True art. You can try every flavor before ordering. Don’t be surprised if the ice-cream tastes so good : the chef is Italian ! Everybody is friendly there. Congrats guys 👍🏻
M.
I was greeted with a smile , such a welcoming, sweet and smart gesture by this beautiful girl named Taniya .. It was our first time here as we recently moved from Welli , so we really didn’t know what to actually order ! Luckily they give the taste testers , which is amazing, another plus point !! We went for “Giapo buono “ as Taniya helped us 😊😊, and trust me I think this is the most amazing ice cream I have tasted in my life !My husband is not a sweettooth kinda person , and he was like “babe this is our go to dessert place from now “
Wish I found this place earlier ...
S.
They offered a sampling that was so helpful, and then our ice cream creation was like nothing I've ever had before. If you want something whacky, fun, and tasty you found the perfect place. I really appreciated staff kindness and sampling for free. I felt like I got more than I paid for, but they seemed thrilled I was there. Please go here!
C.
Delicious ice cream and such a unique experience! Highly recommend going earlier in the evening while it’s still quiet so you can beat the queue and talk to the friendly staff about some of their very interesting projects and art pieces. Definitely coming back for more soon!
J.
Always hella expensive, but SO worth it. The RICHEST ice-cream, Everytime. So flavour-heavy. So delectable.
N.
Loved the idea of real cocreation of fantastic service.best thing you can also pay in AUD using your credit card.
T.
Really cool experience. I went a couple times during my stay in Auckland just to try a few of the different flavours (with full decoration).
You can taste-test a lot of the flavours. Some are a little strange (one of them tastes like pepper/capsicum) but all were very good! If you do two scoops (two flavours), you can choose which flavour you want to have the decoration for.
A little "expensive" but you need to consider that you're getting great quality ice cream (not just generic store-bought stuff), it's made-to-order, prepared nicely, and well-decorated.
Only downfall is that I think it would be a better restaurant experience (on a plate/larger bowl) than a to-go/take-away experience. Some of the ice cream / decorations overflow the cup / cone a bit, making it a little challenging to enjoy before it melts - particularly when you may explode your chocolate dome a little while trying to break it. Alternatively (if Giapo, you're reading this), have bigger bowls with a little more space?
They're right downtown, a great location.
Very delicious and worth trying! I love hokey pokey, as always.
M.
Go here if you've never been to Italy. I like your smiles x
I.
They should charge more. The line is long but it's worth it. Recommend the broken cone ice cream. It's good all around, and don't forget to take pics when you go here. But lmao you're probably going here for that sweet Instagram story. Hash tag gains. As featured on tiktok.
C.
They had a tasting experience for you to try out all their flavors, which is a great way to allow customers to try them out before deciding.
Sadly, there wasnt any fruity flavors at the time, so none of them were really to my liking. However I can tell the ice creams were all really well done.
A.
Awesome-st Gelato in town! The man, the shop, the legend of GIAPO. 🍦 👌 Go there!
D.
Interesting experience with the service but $20 for an ice cream like this is not really worth it in my opinion.
A.
Why dont u try once?! Yes! Once is enough! And expensive :( but there was nice thing which is staff ask to everyone can try icecream before they order.
J.
Great range of vegan options! Wish I had some photos to add, as everything is so visually appealing at Giapo. But the ice-creams are usually half gone before I've got my camera open.
P.
Since opening, Giapo has been constantly innovating with it's selection of ice creams on offer, and the taste has always been fantastic. Presentation is amazing, and staff service is excellent, though with how appealing the desserts are it can get a bit crowded at times.
Definitely worth the visit, especially if you have time before or after a show or between nightclubs, as the desserts are a great addition to any evening.
T.
Best icecream I've ever tasted. Hidden gem for sure.
B.
The service, reception and presentation from the staffs are amazing. You can feel their passion for ice cream through their enthusiasm.
They will serve your ice creams in creative and unique ways if you choose so. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Auckland.
G.
Very delicious ice cream in a huge variety of flavors. The staff are also very eager to help you create the perfect ice cream and give you heaps of samples! Only bad thing is that it can be a bit pricey and late at night (usually weekends or Friday) the lines can get quite long. But possible one of the best ice creams I've had in my entire life!
M.
Very tasty and sweet icecream. Unexpectedly so big ))) also thanks for so nice stuff!
A.
Vibrant place selling gourmet ice cream in many different varieties. Good friendly service.
N.
The ice cream was great! I tried a bunch for sampling, but couldn't resist the Hokey Pokey! Also, there was a line.... and a girl that gives everyone chocolates as we waited. And they were great!
C.
Giapo makes getting ice cream a true "experience", with its fantastic customer service and delicious, one of a kind flavours. Their ice creams are more like pieces of art, and somehow they make even the most seemingly bizzare ice cream flavours taste delicious! My only critique would be their custom creations priced at $15+, a bit too over the top for my liking. Also, be prepared for long lines and slow service - it is well worth it!
S.
It's a bit complicated ice cream experience tbh. The innovation is good, but sometimes too lengthy and tiresome explanation of the menu puts people off, when they just want to enjoy a scoop of ice cream. Christchurch Hazelnut is their best flavor imo
F.
The ice cream is good, but too sweet in my opinion. Order for the coconut one with chocolate if you don´t like too sweet desserts. If you like it, there are many options for you. The store´s concept is unique and it´s a worthy experience overall. You should try at least once.
N.
Giapo never let you down. It's pricey but well worth it. You get to try all the flavour before making a decision. Don't be put off by long line. It's a fast moving line.
Ice cream is rich in flavour. Recommend sharing if you've had dinner. Very creative presentation
B.
OK, so you should go once. It's a bit special, and if you're in Auckland, you might as well try it. I can't give it a high rating though - the flavours are good, but there are better, the experience amounts to a tasting, then an interesting arrangement of ice-cream that you'll make a mess of yourself eating, and pay more than average for. I think the idea is good and it's fun as a one-time thing, instagram food kind of thing, but that's only really worth it once. If you buy one of the big sculptures, bring friends or you'll make yourself sick trying to eat it. It really is more about the look than the flavour I'm afraid. Most of the time I'd be happier with a regular waffle cone at a regular price.
M.
At first I thought it was a bit expensive for ice cream, that was until we met the chef and he was amazing. Talked us through his ideas, let us try every flavour of ice cream, gave us chocolate whilst we waited. The ice cream was phenomenal, way more to it than your average ice cream parlour, or indeed any ice cream parlour I have ever visited. I wish I'd been hungry enough to take on the giant squid cone. Superb.
L.
Giapo is easily the best ice cream experience I've ever had. Gluten free cones too 😍
Here's a tip from a local, instead of waiting in queue go around the corner to the fast lane. You'll need to order from menu and don't get to try before you buy, but at least you get your ice cream 20 mins quicker.
I also noticed my single order went through quicker than groups of people, so order in singles if you are in a group of 2 or 3 to get yummy ice cream faster.
If it wasn't for the calories I'd be here every day 😋
J.
Once you get in line they put you in a group and have you come up to the host stand where they bring out little cups of each of their flavors. They explain the contents of each cup as you are tasting it. Once you are done you choose your flavor(s) and the presentation, of which they have many options. My husband and I both got dipped cones (but different kinds), and they were so much larger than I expected! Good thing we didn't really have dinner that day. It was quite expensive but definitely delicious and an experience worth having! Be warned: it's a small shop and seating is limited. We were there on a Wednesday night and they were busy.
S.
One of the best ice-cream I have ever had. I definitely feel they provide premium ice-cream and premium service. Hence, be prepared to pay more than your regular ice-cream. The girl who served us was very kind, and explained a lot of thing for us. Your ice-cream will be delivered to whereever you are sitting in or in front of the store.
Upon entering to the store, you'll need to wait until one of the waitress comes to you. You'll then be able to try the ice-cream according to your preference. With the chocolate cups, I feel they are too thick. The milk one taste fine but dark chocolate cup was very bitter.
Nevertheless, it was a good experience here.
A.
They have an awesome selection of flavours and decorations for their ice creams. It is relatively expensive and you'll always wait a long time for your ice cream but the end product is well worth it.
The staff are always super helpful too 😁
e.
crowd favourite, if you love icecream you have to go at least once.
m.
Great for photos, impossible to eat. By the time I got my huge chocolate-encased unwieldy cone, it was pouring melted ice cream down my hand. Very gimmicky with whole donuts on top, not very memorable flavor.
M.
My daughter took me to this yummy ice cream place after our lovely dinner treat for her graduation. The best ice cream I've ever tasted. The girl who served us gave heaps of flavors to try. An excellent customer service. Will definitely recommend them to friends and family.
i.
Wonderful ice cream. They shape it really artistically and the taste is super yum. I particularly love the avocado one. A super busy place in the evening but the customer service level is top notch. They patiently describe the products and offer samples to each customer. Really impressed with the overall experience.
J.
We went for the first time today , we were really confused when checking it out online ahead of time , we thought wow these people take ice cream way too seriously - turns out we weren't taking ice cream as serious as we should have been. We were greeted and offered complimentary chocolate while we waited , then we were treated to the most awesome customer service we have ever experienced and invited to sample all flavors before placing our order. Ice cream was mind blowing and customer service was even better. There was 1 staff member who really stood out to us and enhanced the overall experience we didn't catch her name she was either Māori or Pacific Island. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
R.
First time trying Hokey Pokey Ice Cream!
L.
The “Kiwi as” Afghan Cookies ice cream is one of the best ice creams I have ever tasted. I thought it was better than the hokey pokey ice cream. The place gets crowded so expect a wait, but I think it's worth it. Staff brought us water and free chocolate while we were waiting for our ice cream, so that was awesome. Plenty of seating in and around the shop.
A.
Really cool experience and service. I believe everyone should try at least once. But ice-cream by itself isn't so great as described everywhere (but it's a personal taste). So, probably one time experience. Great for tourists, probably.
B.
I’ve eaten a fair amount of ice cream in my life, and this place is worth visiting. They have a version of an ice cream cone that’s like a Samoa girl scout cookie, but next level. The ice cream is rich and has nice textural variety. Not a ton of seating if the weather is poor and you’ll have a fair amount of birds vying for your crumbs.
R.
The ice cream itself is definitely good, but the shop is too busy. We waited in line fifteen minutes just so people can post photos of their ice cream on Instagram. The cones were cool looking.
R.
I really like the lemon one👍 also it's my first time to try an avocado ice cream~hokey pokey have a tasty flavour😋😋😋
M.
Very tasty ice cream with very limited but luxurious flavors. It was certainly a novel experience spending >$10 on a single cone that was crazily decked out in chocolate, honey comb, the works. The whole place feels a little gimmicky but it's still a fun experience if you don't mind the price.
C.
Unique flavors. Very Instagram friendly.
s.
You may spend a long time waiting - but I must say it's worth it. Giapo is certainly like nothing you've ever had before. Not only is the ice cream delicious and so different, the experience that you go through before purchasing your ice cream is so unique. We had a really great time at giapo and we will return when we're back in Auckland! Loved the unique ice cream flavours too and the many different options for your cones!!! They also cater to the vegan community and have a few vegan options - which are as delicious as the real deal!
k.
Amazing service and even better ice cream. Best in town for sure! Thanks for such A wonderful experience ☺️
p.
Pricey but very unique delicious ice cream.
h.
Why people are so craxy about their icecream.....??? All chocolate and caramel...whats new...other than those....funny designs...innovate new flavours other than chocolate...bla bla....but yes...name is fame.
P.
I got to taste the various flavors that they have on the menu and the "guide" did a great job walking us through the various options. My favorite was the Giapo Buono and I got this afterwards in a cone. It was a big ice cream but it was a delicious work of art. At Giapo they have turned the ice cream into an experience and that was a new thing for me! This is probably an experience that is most suitable for the older kids and adult and not the youngest ones. The ice cream is expensive - but it was a work of art and tasted great!
V.
too sweet the ice cream , but the models very nice!
K.
Extravagant, and delicious. Offers gluten free waffle cones, but also dark chocolate cups to enjoy your ice cream. Often, if not always, offers gluten free and dairy free options. Husband had a fresh-baked Roti Bread-ice cream and he was floored. Every time i'm in the area I think of this place and if I deserve a treat...
M.
Definitely worth trying it out! Staff was friendly and let you try all flavor before deciding what to order.
J.
Only the best gelato that there is in Auckland! A must try (again, and again, and again).🙌🏻
N.
This is the most amazing ice cream shop I've ever been to. Seriously, it will be difficult to top. Not only do they have amazingly creative and delicious flavors, toppings, and combinations but they invite you to try EVERYTHING, even when there's a queue. And when they finally craft your masterpiece, they bring around cups of water and wipes to make sure every detail of your experience there is superb. I can't recommend this place enough, it's a MUST in Auckland.
C.
Expensive but worth it. The ice cream was fantastic and the cones are wild.
M.
Very friendly service, invites your to try their very attractive flavours before choosing.
Each flavor has their own designed toppings. Definitely the best ice-cream in New Zealand.
W.
Incredibly creative flavours and presentation, somewhere you go as much for the experience as the ice cream - expect to wait in a long queue. Quite expensive, but worth it at least once. I had giapo and chocolate, the chocolate was amazing
M.
Great desert place with beautiful creations. In the heart of Queen Street. The only down side is that it is a very small place with no many places to have a seat.
M.
Amazing and happening place to visit. Great customer service.
A.
Ambience, staff, and service great. The icecream served on a cone was so soft that the chocolate coating started falling off before I could swallow what was in my mouth. And we were sitting outside in a very chilly evening
M.
This is not your generic ice cream parlour. This is a truely awesome experience as you are guided towards making your perfect creation.
M.
Visited this wonderful shop on Monday night. We were served by Connie who was wonderful and very helpful. It was delightful and surprising. You cannot see the ice cream/gelato but you go on flavours and some beautiful samples. The selection is varied, the presentation is a work of art and the ice cream leaves you wanting to go back for more. A lovely touch providing water and wipes. Will be definitely be back. Don't miss your opportunity to try it out.
D.
What an experience!! I've never had to line up to be served at an ice cream shop before ...but I'd happily be in the lineup at GIAPO. A totally unique experience - flavours, staff friendliness, thoughtful service, etc. Absolutely recommended. Single malt whiskey ice cream ...YES.
L.
What an amazing experience! I had found this place online as an experience to try, so I knew to expect a bit of a wait and to pay a little extra for ice cream than I usually would but it was whole heartedly worth it! The staff were amazing, friendly and helpful. We were offered free samples of ice cream and chocolate while we waited. I cannot wait to come back to Auckland and visit Giapo again!
I.
Most amazig ice cream experience ever! I don’t eat dairy but was very please to find there plentiful vegan options ! There was no line when we went and the staff were very relaxed and friendly! When we went in they asked if it was our first time and if we had any dietary requirements which they then took into consideration when choosing our 7 testing samples. Although the ice creams are at least $8 each without the waffle you get a lot for your money due to the abundance of tasters and helpful staff!! Would give 10/10 highly recommend and definitely going to be my new go to ‘treat yourself’ location!
A.
An absolutely amazing place to stop by for a scoop or two. If it's you first visit, the staff will usually offer a tour and tell around what is more of a display of art than an ice-cream parlour, as well as a free sample of all their flavors.
T.
Best ice cream ever. Seriously don't miss coming here! They gave us heaps of samples to try. We opted for 2 flavours in a cone. Each flavours has it's own special topping. Ours was served flambe. There are also some weird and wonderful creations such as a squid or a tower, and the option for a group to try all of the them
S.
The service at Giapo is really personalised without any pressure of buying. A really nice experience, different to most ice cream shops - would recommend people go and try the different varieties of ice cream.
The one Con for me was they don't serve ice cream in a cup and so the overall quanitity is almost a meal.
K.
The best customer experience and the best ice cream in New Zealand. Operated by a family that lives and breathes ice cream and is passionate about giving each cutomer an unforgettable experience. Go again and again and again - I have.
C.
Yummy!
Money can't buy happiness but ice-cream surely can! Especially here!
Come in and taste some awesome ice-cream!
They are really good and you can feel the fresh/high-quality products. The customer service is splendid as well. Even during busy time, they carefully explain to you the flavors and you can try before doing your final choice.
I'll go back here that's for sure!
A.
Excellent service. We had a very pricey ice cream cone, $25 for a huge two-scoop chocolate cone. We should have brought at least six more friends to share that humongous thing.
M.
Wow, this place is next level. It's not just ice cream, it's an experience. Whilst the line was long, staff greet guests in line with refreshments which simply adds to the excitement. The ice cream is delicious, but what really sets them apart is the delivery, wearable cones, or even a Yorkshire pudding!
A.
Ok, the place is very busy and ice creams are unique, but a bit too expensive. For people like me who prefer traditional flavours, I would think it's best to skip this place because they don't have that. You end up paying a lot for something trendy, but not necessarily great.
Staff are friendly.
I wish they had more or better seating, especially in cold winter days.
D.
What a brilliant formula! Join a tasting group to try all the flavours. Then place your order.
F.
The gelato out here is so so good! And the way they dress it up and serve it to you in a cone/cup is something else.
P.
Delicious ice creams. But I liked the old location better when you could watch them make the ice cream creations behind a screen. There was a lot more fun and wonder to it. The new spot feels a bit more cold and aloof, like a trendy clothing store. That said, still tasty!
J.
Huge variety of ice cream flavours with dairy free and gluten free options! So yummy!
E.
This place is great, taste a bunch of different flavors then choose your cone style (crazy options and lots of them). They add your toppings and your off to ice cream heaven. Amazing.
R.
Most amazing service I have ever experienced! Chocolate and water was given out while we waited in line and we could try as many flavours as we wanted. During the time we enjoyed our ice cream we were offered wet wipes and water! Always so helpful and best ice cream in Auckland by far! :)
M.
Nice ice cream nice service.
R.
Tasty...just prefer the menu setup from the previous store, as I wouldn't get bored with eating just one flavor.
L.
Unbelievably good ice cream where every one is treated like VIP. Their deluxe and special cones are a masterpiece. They let you try any flavor you want before you order so you never get disappointed. All my friend who I took to Giapo were very impressed.
J.
They have special ice cream too 😁
S.
Superb service with a smile, excellent dairy free options. Slightly pricey but to be expected as the quality is exceptional. Feedback on the coffee flavor would be to serve it with less dark chocolate chips as some of the coffee flavour is lost.
Y.
Very nice and good service. But it's just way toooo sweet to me :)
S.
Very beautiful ice cream place. Expensive, yes, but so worth it. This is not just ice cream; this is art. Staff are also helpful and friendly. They take their time to explain the menu and let you sample flavors. Good vegan options as well.
M.
The best ice cream place in Auckland.
A.
I guess the great thing about this place is that it's innovative. Something new and exciting especially for the instagram lovers who post food pics. As for the ice cream - far tooo sweet and rich for me. If you're simple like me, share a cup or cone with someone cause you won't be able to finish it! Maybe we just went all out, I bought the chocolate cone with two scoops of two diff flavoured ice creams. So was a bit much. Did look nice though 🤗
J.
It's wonderful. We have loved all vegan flavors so far and know there are more to come. I just wish that there was one till that was reserved for people who already know what they want. It's a bit of a bummer waiting in line when all 3 tills have people just trying samples of all the flavors.
F.
I brought my son here for a special birthday treat, after hearing so much about it.
I had briefly mentioned in passing that it was his birthday not thinking much of it. Out comes the most delicious ice cream I've ever tasted but even better, Giapo brought it out decorated beautifully with a birthday candle and a chocolate disc with a birthday message, and everyone in the whole place sung happy birthday to him. His face just lit up! Love 💛
A.
Update: Since my previous review they have brought back in trying and tasting different flavours. They are also continually experimenting with new ideas and concepts whilst keeping the classics. Best icecream in the world :)
Old: The old store was amazing but i feel that they stepped in wrong direction with the new store. I miss the personal approach they used to have and the chance to try the different flavors.
R.
Yum yum yum. The gelato is good. But since they changed owners it is expensive. On the weekend and Fri night there is always a queue, but it moves pretty fast. The flavours change regularly and the servers are good. Just don't expect to get a seat.
P.
An amazing place for a little bit of a treat. The flavour descriptions are unusual so ask to try them so you can choose the best combo. I am not too keen on the chocoate mouse sauce they ooze over it but it still is awesome. Some of the best ice cream in the world.
C.
Had the house special and it was quite frankly amazing. Probably one of the best I've creams I've ever had. Pricey but one was more than enough for my wife and I to share. Will definitely go back next time we want to treat ourselves!
W.
We had an incredible experience at Giapo! They offer an ice cream sampling degustation which allows you to try all their different flavours before making a decision. Everything on the menu looked like a work of art. I ended up ordering the Hokey Pokey and it was delicious! They also have very generous service sizes and the staff were super friendly. Would highly recommend!
G.
I read about this place and decided to stop by. When I came in I was asked if this was my first time and if I wanted to join an ice cream tasting. It didn't take a lot to convince me and together with a group, I got to taste the various flavors that they have on the menu and the "guide" did a great job walking us through the various options. My favorite was the Giapo Buono and I got this afterwards in a cone. It was a big ice cream but it was a delicious work of art. At Giapo they have turned the ice cream into an experience and that was a new thing for me!
J.
Giapo is a very popular dessert place in Auckland! I loved the caramel hazelnut. It tasted like Nutella with a caramel tinge and the toasted marshmallow on the top tasted like clouds. I’m in hotel isolation & it certainly was the highlight of my time.
F.
I’ve tried better ice cream in Auckland CBD (Island Gelato, for exemple), It’s nice to go and give it a try once in your life, take a picture to post on instagram and get some likes and pay A LOT for something that is OK. (MY OPINION) - something that I thought was pretty nice, if it’s your first time there, they let you try all the flavours before getting your ice cream.
v.
It is different, but think there is just so much innovation you can do with ice cream. Could also be that we visited it a bit late night almost closing time. Our guests from abroad loved the experience.
M.
Wow. Giapo takes ice cream seriously. They have some amazing flavors and incredible cone creations. I over-ordered with a gigantic double scoop waffle cone that was bigger than my fist. Yet, the ice cream and the cone were all so delicious I couldn’t stop eating! I finished every last bit and felt great about myself! What’s even more surprising is that despite ingesting the entirety of that monster cone, my tummy felt pretty darn good. None of the bloating or discomfort that would normally come from overloading on ice cream and chocolate. Must have been the quality ingredients and excellent recipe from Giapo. Don’t believe me? Try it for yourselves!
Important: Their very friendly staff took especially great care of me. I’m a messy eater so I took my cone to the side to scarf down. About 2/3s of the way through, I was offered some samples of their awesome chocolate. 3/4s of the way, they came back out again to give me much needed wet napkins. So awesome!
R.
1.) Wait 15 - 20 minutes in queue
2.) Listen to a 15 minute talk on ice cream
3.) Wait 5 minutes in queue to purchase Ice cream
4.) Wait 10 - 15 minutes for Ice Cream
5.) Eat Ice Cream (Really Yummy!)
The staff are lovely here and the experience is awesome but I wonder if it has been taken a step too far. The space is quite crowded and the fast order door needs to be more obvious and made the preferred option. If you’re looking for a casual ice cream, order from the side door. Giapo is the place to go for an ice cream, I just wish they would give customers more options to order quickly :)
D.
If you're visiting Auckland for just a day or 2, don't miss this place. Best ice-cream in Auckland and so far best I've had in New Zealand. Some amazing creations such as the chocolate Sky Tower... attached to the top of an ice cream cone.
M.
I can only add my great experience to the list, the staff are great and the ice creams are incredible! Yes they're sweet but this isn't the place to go if you just want a single scoop of french vanilla.
C.
Absolutely beautiful
Great price and such wonderful service from staff
H.
3d printed Ice Cream sculpture. Holy, the art work on the ice cream is cool. Did you want to have a picture frame on your ice cream? They do that. Did you want the kraken on your ice cream? They do that. On top of this there is also a tasting that lets you taste every single flavor. What kind of ice cream shop let’s you do this?!? Giapo does that is who. Go visit especially if you are in the city.
F.
Great range of creative flavours and they have delicious options that are gluten free and vegan too! Really enjoyed our visit here and will definitely be back. Seating inside is limited but there are some benches outside under cover so it's not a place you'll spend hours at
C.
A really different sort of ice cream parlour. A somewhat limited range of flavours but really exceptional ice creams. You can taste all the flavours before you buy. A bit pricey but a unique and very enjoyable experience.
E.
From out-of-this-world amazing gelato and ice cream, to chocolate chips and cones, to delightful toppings (including a 3D printed chocolate squid!), Giapo did not disappoint. The service was fabulous and the vegan gelato and ice creams we had were so perfect! About 1/3 of the flavors are vegan; all were truly delicious! Don't miss it if you've a chance to go!
R.
I like ice-cream, but I would usually buy 2 litres for $5 or something of that nature. After seeing so many good reviews on TripAdvisor I decided I would treat myself. I got myself a tub of Pavlova which costs $7. Service was quick and I really liked the presentation of the ice cream. Taste wise it delivered. Sugary, creamy and fruity on top of that. Now I find myself wanting to go back and try all the other flavours!
M.
Very yummy! Excellent presentation and super friendly staff!!! 5 stars 😃👏🏻
M.
So fun! You get a personalized tasting tour to try all the flavors you want before you decide which one you’d like to try. They have all kinds of chocolates in molds that you can add onto your cone.. I had the Hokey Pokey cone - it was delicious!
T.
Everyone knows this is the best icecream in the city, maybe even in New Zealand. Worth the price and a really great experience. Seasonal changes and amazing flavors, something for everyone!
J.
Amazing gelato and experience, but I'd be reluctant to go back with our (young) kids. They didn't have the patience for trying multiple flavours, and the flavours were mostly too exotic. One of them didn't eat theirs at all.
J.
An experience to be had for the crazy cones, but only average taste wise.
E.
This is an absolutely unique and exciting spot. The experience I had at Giapo was so much fun.
A.
This is not an ordinary ice cream place, as the staff will let you know once you enter. They shake your hands, make introductions, and then ask for any dietary restrictions that you may have. They then tell you all about their flavors and let you try them one by one to find out which exact taste you're looking for. The chef then prepares his / her own topping based on your selection and you're provided with some magical ice cream. As a result of this comprehensive process, the queues are long and the ice cream slightly pricey. If you go for a special cone it'll become even more pricier. I would still strongly recommend people who love ice cream to visit this place.
K.
The most expensive ice-cream ever in my life but I like the taste. Just one thing, I don't like the corn so I wanted to eat ice with cup... They don't have cups anymore.
M.
Absolutely fabulous ice cream served as part of an immersive experience. The tiny shop gives off museum vibes, with examples of the available cone types mounted on the walls with little cards providing the name of the cone along with ingredients and in some cases the year of creation. Other options are shown in separate photographs each mounted in its own frame along with a card. Once at the counter you get 6 shot glasses of ice creams to sample, then you give your order. Although the line was out the door, we did not feel rushed and the people sitting leave just as your order comes up. Each order is announced with a lovely bell and visible to all. The presentations are as visually appealing as they are delicious. Truly a wonderful experience!
C.
I really rate Giapo as an after dinner dessert option in the city. The ice cream is good and they turn it into an experience... however this was better executed at the previous location. The new one just feels too crammed and awkward (which is weird considering how small the old queen st location was)
D.
The best ice cream I've ever eaten ! Delicious, beautiful and original ! You can't go in Auckland and miss this place. In addition the team is nice ! A bit more expensive than the usual ice cream but it is incomparable in terms of quantity and quality.
S.
tasting before buying, good service, and awesome ice cream 小姐姐服务超级棒🤣
B.
Such a creative Icecream, a must to visit when u in auckland.
M.
Staff are always welcoming and friendly. Not just any other ice cream parlour. They will introduce some popular flavours and you get to try it. Always bring my friends from overseas to try Giapo!
H.
Always a treat going to this place! Cannot disappoint in satisfying your sweet tooth. I always go with my favourite afghan cookies! Sweet and chocolatey and crunchy with the cornflakes. Yum! They also have unique flavours for those who have a daring palete

Ate at Giapo maybe 4 or 5 yrs ago when it was at the main n St n was amazed by the ice cream. This time we came back to akl again so I decided to bring my little boy to try it out. Didn't know what to expect and was told to wait for the tasting. There was a couple in front of us who were doing the tasting by themselves. When it came to our turn, we were grouped with a bunch of 4 other strangers from another family. The staff started letting us taste n my son and I were the last of the group to get the little tubs to taste when they were passed around. The sticks were in front of the group but the staff didn't specify that we should use a new stick or what sys to adopt. By the 3rd round I refused to continue the tasting because not only is my young man losing interest but I was grossed out that the people before us we're dipping into the little tubs with the same sticks. I mean I don't mind the double dipping if it's within our family and friends because otherwise it's just bad environmental practice but to share ice cream with a whole bunch of strangers are just off putting. Don't understand how this was supposed to work and if we were just bunched with others cos it's just me and child but this really needs a rethink. At the end of the somewhat over the top experience, we still ended up having to go sit outside on the benches like take aways...not like there's a proper sit down spot or anything...the experience is pretty disjointed. The ice cream cones came out amazing looking but the toppings etc really detract the deliciousness of the actual ice cream. While I want to support the big idea behind this ice cream ''experience" you lost me at tasting...won't b back again
A.
Hands down the best ice cream, gelato & sorbet in New Zealand, which has improved non stop over the years we've been going. The elaborate toppings have become more practical to eat over time which is appreciated. Steep prices and a rigid sticking to a fine French restaurant mentality at Giapo can get in the way of the simple enjoyment of great ice cream.
H.
When you're new there, they start you off with ice cream tasting which is great. Then they go through all the crazy options, such as edible cups and selfie frame cones. Real neat and good tasting ice cream.
n.
One of the best that I would recommend when you around the city.
Great staff very friendly
Passionate and dedication
Taste balance not too sweet
Great decorative
Feel welcome when entering the shop with the guidance of the staff we tasted few favours and it was awesome, we ordered the famous chch haz’nut it was awesome and have not changed since I first had at 2014, they also decorated the ice cream just like an artwork and handed to me with a big smile. Thanks for a great ending of the day.
E.
Decent ice cream, neat ideas, too expensive. This place is best suited for hipsters and young children. If the ice cream itself was outstanding I'd have no problem with the prices, but it was just average or good.
M.
I think here is not the most delicious ice cream in Auckland , but still quite good and expensive. If you are here for the first time, then they will allow you to taste every kind of ice cream . That’s awesome!
M.
This place is an institution, it's busy as buggery but it doesn't take that long together served.
The service is impeccable, you know you're in a different type of place and this is no corner street icecream bar.
As for the creations, they are very very cool (if rich and as sweet as you'd expect). Go for the best, yes they are expensive but you're not likely to come back and so treat yourself.
M.
Fabulous service, great ice cream! Treated a group of 4 teenagers who thoroughly enjoyed the experience - from the gourmet ice cream taste test to the chocolate tray and even glasses of water and wipes brought out to us on the benches outside.
C.
First of all: the ice cream and the staff are amazing. You are constantly served complimentary hot chocolate, water and shortbread while you are waiting. The ice cream tastes great and is really something. However, the concept and set-up of the place don't work for me. You can't get just a scoop of ice cream in a cup or cone as they are all "creations". Consequently, all flavors have indecipherable names so that you have no idea what you are getting. To make matters worse, they have no pictures of the creations and they hide the ice cream from view, leaving you even more clueless. They try to work around that by explaining the creations to you and letting you sample all the flavors you like, but that takes a long time and creates a huge queue. At the end of the explanation, I still wasn't quite sure what the creations were and opted for a simple scoop of ice cream in a cone which set me back $10. As mentioned before, the ice cream is top-notch and also the cone was great (coated with chocolate on the inside, very tasty), but overall the place is just too complicated/confusing and too crowded.
S.
This experience was next level! Aarya was so accommodating & welcoming. So many gluten free & vegan options. Amazing product, topped off with amazing service. Will be going again before we leave Auckland!
W.
Best ice cream I've ever had. Sometimes with chocolate or caramel etc it can end up being too rich and sickening, but I've never had that problem here. It's just at the perfect level of richness without becoming too much. Also very friendly staff.
I.
Was really busy but this was due to protocols that was in place for COVID-19. So well done on this guys. Even with the protocols the line did move quickly.
The service was great and the product was amazing. Will recommend this amazing little place to anybody
S.
Giapo is not just and icecream shop it is an experience. There's always a line up because the icecreams are a work of art! First you taste the different flavours and are told how the flavour was invented then you get to choose your favourite into a creation of your own. They'll even stuff it into Maori fry bread for you! Some of the creations look too good to eat. Definitely the place to go for the perfect IG post.
E.
I'm from SA,and wanted to buy my daughter and myself a icecream. I didn't have a valid NZ cash card on me but I did have cash.
The kind young lady that helped us was willing to give my daughter and me a free icecream just because she is so awesome.
Next time I'm bringing the card and the family 😀

I really love Giapo, its my favourite place to get icecream & in the past I have been absolutely addicted. But I have to say, since they changed the menu & took away the paper cup option, I'm not feeling it as much. I get that they're wanting to make gelato a big magical experience, but taking away the cups means taking away a fairly cheap & accessible option. They've also made it that only specific flavours can be eaten with specific cone choices. So if I want a cheap option, I can only choose between 3 flavours, none of which are the flavours I want to choose! I always go for the afghan flavour, but now the cheapest option I have for the afhgan flavour is $21! Don't think that's very fair. If you're going to take away the paper cups, then I think you should at least not limit all the cone choices to only specific flavours.
E.
Arrive 15 min before it opens, otherwise will have to wait for quite a while in a line.
S.
Unique delicious deserts which are great to share. Expensive but well worth it for a nice treat.
K.
Amazing icecream - great treat that we have once a year with our kids. Not cheap but they are dessert icecreams with tones of creativity. Always taste amazing.
K.
Extremely delicious. We went to Sealife beforehand and on our ride back we got a voucher for one scoop for free. Definitely worth it, one scoop costs around 10$ but you have to try it it's so good
S.
Worth the experience and high price at least once! Make sure you eat quickly though because in hot weather the ice cream melts quick. There are so many fun choices in the menu!
M.
Fanciest golden cone ever had. Best service in ice cream parlour ever had. Managed to sample most of the flavours while queueing to order and while waiting for the cone. Managed to sample some chocolate cake. Water, tissue and wet tissue were brought to us later too. Friendly staff chatted w us while we waited for our ride.
J.
We had been here before and had a great experience. I took my mom who was visiting from the states and was so very disappointing. Very rushed and no info given on the flavors or the story behind the ice cream.
J.
It is more than an ice cream shop, it is a gourmet experience. You must do it once you are in Auckland! The pace is very busy but the staff is great and you will have time to taste lots of flavours before placing your order.
I.
Delicious ice cream, great service. Though a little bit overprice.
F.
More like an ice cream boutique! Quite an experience! Flavours are super original and orders are custom made by an ice cream specialist that'll recommend combinations and let you sample every flavour. Highly recommended!
H.
The art and magnificent tastes they bring to ice cream is outstanding. Thank you 😊
M.
At which other ice cream place do you wait near the door to be "seated"/called on, and then you're asked if you have any allergies or dietary restrictions before being presented a flight of ice cream samples? I went with the $8.00 dark chocolate option in a $3.50 chocolate-lined homemade waffle cone. (I usually ditch the cone if it costs extra, but I couldn't resist after learning they were homemade.) Everything was delicious, but I wish they had a kid-size serving! Or a buddy to share my cone with. Bonus points to Giapo for the selfie cone.
E.
The fanciest and most extraordinary ice cream shop I have ever been to. The waffles are unique and the ice cream is fantastic. Expensive ice cream but can only recommend to try it. You won't be disappointed.
P.
Staff were friendly, accommodating and informative. They know what they're selling. If you're a first timer, they explain how to order, show what it looks like and a taste of each flavor. The icecream, for me, was too sweet. I had Giapo Buono on chocolate cone. I think it costs around NZD$23-24. My friend ordered the NZ Hokey Pokey on raspberry cone with AKL skytower on top. It was Instagram worthy that's for sure. But wasn't able to finish it as it (the tower - white chocolate) was waaaaay to sweet and the cone was too sour. That one costs around NZD$30-34. Overall, it was a good experience..
K.
Crazy good ice cream. One of those "you have to try it once" places. High chance you'll want to go back! Think ice cream is a couple of scoops in a cone? Come here and be amazed at the creativity. Warning: not cheap but highly worth it
A.
For once I didn't mind paying $8.50 for a scoop of ice cream! So decadent, fancy, delicious, and A+ service to boot. All scoops come with decorations which makes it that much more exciting. Plenty of vegan options!
J.
You have to go there ! It's the best ice cream seller in auckland ! You have lot of choices of ice cream and if you can't decide you can taste some flavours. There is two negative points; it's expensive just for an ice cream and there is so many people. Except that, the seller are kind and helpful :)
V.
The amazing ice cream heaven they have small shop but huge heart. They are from Italy and they create their own flavours and design taste chocolate everything there is very mesmerizing because they don't want to copy anyone every copies them. Giapo is the owner and ice cream designer name. They have amazing flavours you name it they have . They have eggless icecream made from fruits extracts when you taste them you can't tell the difference . And according to their taste the price is extremely low and you can only know all of this if you have been to giapo the ice cream heaven .
J.
Ice cream is always amazing and staff is lovely, but the deluxe cup I ordered was an utter disappointment. Ridiculously expensive and completely overrated, it was tasteless and felt like there was a lot of hydrogenated fat in the chocolate.
D.
Not the same as the old giapo. No longer able to sample the ice cream nor can you see before you buy. The ice cream still good, but the change in delivery definitely dampens the experience. No offence to the staff, they are very attentive and patient.
E.
Sophisticated flavours, a very different ice cream experience, where the silky taste is a bit overwhelming, seems heavy and maybe "too much" for a casual desert. It is quite pricey, however a MUST TRY when in Auckland.
D.
Super yummy ice cream. I got the Kiss Kiss Kiss which was chocolate hazelnut ice cream. I asked for a single scoop in a cup, so of course I was just expecting a scoop of ice cream in a paper cup BUT I was presented with this gorgeous ice cream dipped in chocolate, topped with roasted hazelnuts and decorated with chocolate lips. Very happy.
J.
Good services with delicious ice cream. You can taste all the flavour before you decided to buy which flavour you want. But it is too costly! I bought a scope with cone with 10nzd. If you choose deluxe cone which look pretty nice then u would have to pay 22 for a scope
M.
The hostess was very nice and let us sample all the ice cream varieties.
G.
Love me some ice-cream. Great experience and friendly staff. Our visiting family loved the concept, and the ice-cream
S.
Totally new ice cream experience. Very friendly owner/chef chatted for a long time about his vision and mission for his ice cream eatery. Even have a tour of his R&D lab where they create new ice cream dishes. Must visit!
