Reviews of Ollies Burgers & Ice Cream
C.
I've been going to Ollies since I was a kid.
Its iconic. It's still the same!!!
We had a laugh with the guy at the next table eating a HUGE Banana Split. To be honest I had food envy. Im so glad Ollies is a popular landmark 5 stars with cream and a cherry on top!!!
P. S take someone on a date here. It's fun.
R.
Great place for dessert or a shake or both! Kid friendly and good service. Location is also pretty good so the store is very easy to spot. I'm looking forward to trying more of the items on the menu. This time I had the banana split with two flavours of ice cream and a shake.
M.
The best burger and ice cream joint in NZ. This place is a must visit to enjoy an awesome retro vibe!! 👌👌
L.
Ice cream of every flavour and hot food too. Sundaes are fabulous. Choose your own flavours and toppings.
K.
Cute store. The ice cream was good, I got the brownie hot fudge Sunday. Hit the spot. The burger on the other hand-not sure if they use frozen patties or some sort of meat mix but I couldn't eat it. My husband and the kids ate it but I found the meat grossed me out. I also don't eat weiners, I only eat all beef hot dogs- so could be personal preference.
N.
Ordered 2x Hawaiian burgers and chips for quick takeout tonight. Burger was amazing, good old fashioned burger with pickles and non greasy. Chips were perfect, hot and perfect crunch. Will definitely be back to try the icecream sundaes!
G.
The best place for your late night treats. Been coming here since I was a kid and they never disappoint. Icecreams, milkshakes, burgers and chips. They even cater for people with food allergies.
S.
Amazing place thats offeres a range of hot good and desserts. We got a Giant banana split and Chocolate fudge cake. This is a great place to go for dinner or as a weekend treat. Staff are really friendly and welcoming . Well done Ollies they were also very kind and patient as my daughter took her time picking ice cream flavours
C.
This place reminds me of an old school diner drive through which serves the basic burger, hot dogs, and ice cream. We ordered the cheeseburger combo, ollies hot dog, and nuggets. Overall the taste was average and felt like you could've made the same level of food by doing a BBQ in your backyard (especially the burger and hotdog). Felt like the patty and hot dog was bought from countdown/pack n save and just flame grilled on their burner. The fries tasted good though. With all that said, the diner has a long history it seemed like and I respect diners that serve the local community for over 45+ years (they truly dont exist anymore). The environment is clearly for young kids with all the arcade games and open space for them to run around. Serving a wide selection of ice cream makes this place a popular location during summertime! All in all, its a great community quick eat, and an alternative to McDonalds if you want something different!
B.
Came by after dinner since we were in the area. Fairly decent selection of ice cream with choices of how you wanted it (sundae, milkshake or cone). They also have savoury food if you were wanting some. We just ordered at the counter and waited for our food before heading down to find some seats.
They have a decently sized seating area with a game area in the back, compete with arcades. Really nice place for kids and kids at heart.
V.
Pleasant and helpful service, as well as a wide range of dessert options. We thoroughly appreciated their ice creams.
S.
Love it. Rum and raisin ice cream is my n#1 on my list.
Been going there for nearly 40years
A.
Used to come to this place back in the day. Still is as good as ever. Great Vege burger and Milkshakes are yummy. Good for a quick bite or ice cream with kids and adults alike.
D.
Still as good as it was when I first visited it in 1973, always extremely clean, fantastic selection of bugers and icecreams, well done Colin Haines. Ollies is an iconic store not only in Royal Oak but Auckland and beyond. I would love to know how many uni students have worked there over the years, to all those people keep up the good work and keep Ollies going for another 47 years.
A.
Best Ice Creams In Auckland. Period!! Food is pretty decent too. Modestly priced. Clean amenities. Arcade games available to pass time and chill out for a bit. Ample seating. Great service and friendly, welcoming staff.
Q.
Love this place. Beautiful ice cream and yummy burger. It will better if you guys can also provide Coke nosuger though.
D.
Awesome takeaway style burger. Chocolate thickshake is also delicious. Long live ollies!
D.
A huge selection of ice cream, i think theyre all TipTop. Serves a decent sized scoop, good value. A very retro decoration inside even with some arcade machines. Staff were friendly. Had the Mocha fudge brownie ice cream which had a strong taste and good bite sized chunks of brownie. Tables were a little dirty with ice cream marks not wiped clean.
J.
Had the giant banana split which was really huge. Milkshakes are good if you get the thick ones.
C.
This is my go to local burgers and icecream venue, and has been since childhood. Their variety in ice cream flavours is top notch and they always bring in new and limited time flavours, would always always come back. Service wise it's ok but everything else makes up for it. Please also keep the vip cards an ongoing thing!
S.
The best ice cream in Auckland Central. Super coool flavours. The Sundae is to die for. Lovely service. No wonder it is very popular and one has to time it right.
Nice place to hang out toi.
C.
The staff here are very helpful and friendly. Ollies have a pretty good selection of ice-cream and the prices are mot too bad.
J.
Excellent flavourful selection, great value for money, and fantastic service. What're could you ask for.
C.
Ollies still the same since i was a little girl..would never want it to change either its nice having some things still the same from the past espicially if it's good memories i love mallow coconut, butterscotch pecan and salted caramel..yuumm
A.
Icecream still tastes just as good as when i was there as a child. Needs an upgrade on the games though
A.
Yumm-oh! The name of the place says it all, burgers and ice-cream. No complicated recipes or fusion-this-or-that and, not over-priced either. Simple menu, just done well.
J.
This place is iconic in the Royal Oak & surrounding areas. Have very fond memories of Ollies as it was our hangout after school over 35 years ago. Excellent selection of ice cream flavours and the service is prompt & friendly. My single scoop (a very large single scoop!) choc sundae with all the usual trimmings was delicious, even on a wet winter's day!
R.
Loved the ice-cream flavours it's the food that's not good
G.
Ordered mango thickshake and toasted sandwiches. Very delicious. Love the nostalgic feel and look. Staff were courteous and well presented. Recommend to all
L.
big ice creams, definitely a hit in our house, would be awesome if there were dairy free options (not sorbet etc).
D.
Awesome 🍨 ice cream and very much enjoy their cheese burger with crispy lettuce tomato
D.
OMG, the ice cream is awesome, staff were great, we'll definitely be back
M.
DONT VISIT AUCKLAND WITHOUT STOPPING BY THIS MONUMENTAL ICE CREAM BURGER PARLOUR..been here for at least 30 years, everyone raves about it
A.
Have loved this place for years still great tasting ice creams
M.
Visited here on Waitangi day, and was pretty busy, but the line moved quickly. Not quite as mind blowing as I was expecting, but enjoyable all the same. Great selection, and fast service along with generous portions (two scoops seemed like a good idea at the time, but was excessive)
C.
Firstly, take all other reviews with 4 stars or more with a grain of salt. Ollie's is a very basic burgers, chips and ice cream joint. There's not much else to it. The burgers and fries are not the greatest - comparable to that of a typical fish and chips shop. The ice cream is from tip top, take that as you will, it's not bad but for the money is really not worth buying as you can buy a 2 litre tub for the same price as the ice cream. Overall, Ollie's is okay.
u.
This is a great ice cream parlor and they make the best cheeseburgers ever!
They are also a great incentive for kids ex. Rewards for doing something 👍👍
D.
Ollie's is always a good place to grab a bite, a homily joint... definitely recommend checking out the Flavor of the week.
M.
Great lil spot for shakes n ice cream💯💪
G.
Always good to visit.
Portions are huge.
Good value for money
J.
I've been going here since I was little and my parents went here when they were teenagers. Always a treat going to Ollies! So many ice cream flavours to choose from
P.
My fave ice cream parlour in Auckland. Love the vibe and how it reminds me of ice cream shops back home in Canada.
Nice rotating selection of flavours
B.
The best ever service
Yummy coconut marshmallow
Really good, great texture
F.
Considering the prices, the ice cream tastes very cheap. However it looks and tastes like a 1970s diner. It's clean and the service is ok. Recommend it for a trip with the kids or even a date.
C.
I absolutely love d the experience!!!
J.
Cant fault. We were with a group of 7. The lady serving was very patient with all the orders. We all got seats but was getting busy as we were leaving. The couple of arcade games around the back were cheaper to play that other game halls. Good dessert menu. Those that had hot chips, wedges and burgers all enjoyed their meals.
J.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Burgers had good quality ingredients but were very burnt, chips were way oversalted. Ice cream was nice. Moral of the story, just get the ice cream at the ice cream parlor.
M.
Honestly amazing, there is nothing to special about it BUT in saying that it has a specific charm to it, as it is such a kiwi place!!
Me and my partner went here to get some ice cream, it had pretty much all tip top flavors and there were so many options for how to serve it, he just got 2 scoops while i choose any flavor and made is a milkshake (btw I choose a cookie dough one and OMG it was delicious!!) you can also get sundaes, burgers and other things (very American, but also very kiwi haha!)
If it wasn't so far away i would go way more often!!
D.
Great service.
Lots of flavors.
Good following of covid orange.
D.
Awesome the icecream splits were 100% awesome especially after a day of kids mx riding well enjoyed
M.
Always a great down to earth dessert place.
P.
Friendly staff, clean surroundings and great food.
J.
Dodgy decor, minimal furniture...and great range of ice-cream. This place has been around longer than any two of the serving staff, and without significant change. Ollies is Ollies...same owner, same business. Almost counts as Kiwiana. I love it.
R.
I have been going to Ollies since the early 1980's. It still has the same feel as it did back then, grandparents with their grandchildren out for a treat, parents with their kids, young teenagers on a date, or hanging with their friends, and given its location it is certainly a place to watch the world go by
W.
Cool old fashioned diner. Great that it was open late.
C.
I feel like this place could be awesome if the gaming machines were all up and running. The food is ok but overpriced and nothing special. A large selection of ice cream choices and limited edition flavors makes it a exciting place to go.
T.
Just as I remembered as a child. Loved it! Don't change a thing.
T.
Omg! I love this place. It has awesome flavors, good portions and it isnt expensive. I wish they can sell their ice cream on tubs for takeaway. I live far now but I will definitely come back.
S.
My fav place for ice reams all year round
C.
Always nice food & pleasant staff.
Choc dipped ice creams ,not many do these nowadays.
Actually met the owner today, who has owned Ollies for 48 yrs..nice to chat with him
L.
The ice cream was amazing, great flavour, I enjoy the retro American diner design, the only downside was the attitude of the servers. They seemed low energy and judgemental lel. They could have pretended to be nice 🤣🤣
F.
If you love icecream worth a visit. After 7pm found parking was no problem. The maple and walnut was so delicious and orange chocolate chip too. A single scoop is generous in size but why not go double and try 2 flavours. Approx $10 for a single and a double scoop in a waffle cone.
N.
One of the last traditional ice cream joints, serves hot food as well with a fun little arcade section in the back. If you are in the area have a look.
T.
This place is an icon of royal oak. My family and i have neen coming to this place for 30+ years. The flavours of ice cream are fantastic as well as the food menu. Recommend this place highly.
C.
An institution, and a must in the summer. It's quite rundown and could use some TLC. But the ice cream selection is good. Parking is on the street though most park in the KFC parking lot. Unfortunately, it is not wheelchair accessible.
A.
Lovely Place! My friend stefan reccomended it to me!!! best service ever. Server (Boy with long hair) was very professional!
D.
Burger (hamburger) looked good, the patty let it down though. Maybe the meat in the patty was stretched a bit too far. Otherwise good size and other toppings were good. Ice cream is great. It's TipTop. Nothing wrong with that.
S.
Best ice-creams in Auckland!
N.
Excellent as ever but a little tired in the decor.
C.
Loved it!!! The que was out the door but, it was worth the wait!!!!
K.
The queue was out of the door, always a good sign. Such a great selection of ice creams, sundies etc to try, it was a hard choice indeed.
We were both very pleased with the taste of our ice creams, even better as what we thought we a double scoop, was only a single. Mine was melting faster than I could eat it.
If you love ice cream, this place is the place to check out.
A.
Great childhood memories. Neat place and arcade machines to play when I was young.
I bring my kids to eat icecream after kfc now.
Icecream is ok. But it’s the memories I like and location.
L.
So many different varieties of ice cream!!!!!
I.
Great service and teeth tinkling ice cream 😁
L.
Clean friendly a good range of flavors. They also do burgers, its a little bit historic like stepping back to the 50s for a good holesome ice cream date.
K.
Went here often when I was a child, up to my early teens. Last time I came here was about 12 years ago. Good to see it looks exactly how I remember it all those years ago, and the food, ice cream, and shakes are exactly how I remember them. Definitely need to come back more often. Just gotta wait for gas prices to drop 😂
D.
Totally retro and I'm into it!
The arcade doesn't have the greatest selection but a good way to show the kids these days what it was like back in the day.
The food is decent, the milkshakes are probably their flagship on the menu. Would come back again if I was in the area and had time to kill.
K.
Been to Ollies a few times now.
Ice cream is hands down the best! Marshmallow and Coconut is always my go to. Ambiance is good - reminds me of an old school retro burger/ice cream parlor.
Only down side is the food - quite regular and nothing too special about it. Tad overpriced but still would go for the ice cream / 100
A.
We love Ollies. I take my little one here every so often as a treat for both him and I. Their sundaes are delish! The staff are always friendly, it's a pretty chill atmosphere inside. Fairly priced and the other food items are nice for an ice cream parlor . The burger is definitely a true blue kiwi burger. Will keep coming back
P.
Nice ice cream and selection great. Should have had the banana split. Next time.
M.
Caution: Childhood obesity is caused here.
A.
Came here yesterday. Ice cream was nice but scoops used to be bigger with previous staff. New staff is alright but weren’t as friendly.
L.
Great service, tasty food, it's popular, so lines can be long
R.
Always love this place. Think Royal Oak and Ollies always springs to mind. I have been going here ever since starting Manukau Intermediate(Now Royal Oak Intermediate) on the mid 1980's. Decor has not changed but the ice cream and food is great..recommend the Ollie Dog...Can be busy on a hot summers evening..ice cream sundae with nuts and hot fudge is also a must have.
R.
Still a delicious variety of flavours of icecream after rmany years . Young customers' smiles enjoy each visit as an event rather than as just a delicious purchase. The atmosphere always has an air of Xmas with parents and other adults always satisfied with the staff's pleassnt capahle manner .
J.
All good, flavors are bog standard with a couple of classics and new ones. Cones are priced ok but sundaes and banana splits are all starting around $10 which I think is a bit steep. But hey where else you gonna go?
S.
Great icecream and awesome variety. Black forest = 👌 Travel from Massey to get a treat here. Kids love it, so do us adults.
E.
Took my nieces n nephew there for some shakes they loved it -Tastey shakes for sure. slight retro feel restaurant- only thing missing is waiters on skates hehe. You can take the kids to the timezone at the back or the gf for post date to watch silly drivers maneuver the most action paked roundabout in auckland #allround great place
M.
Amazing ice cream amazing service
L.
Legendary place for ice cream and dates for over 45 years. The menu, decor and service is far from it's reputation. Good to check out and experience the nostalgia.
H.
Icecream can still get that hard chocolate covering. The real deal, don't go there looking for a soy, gluten, fat free nothing. You know you deserve that cheesy toastie to dip in your milkshake. A banana split never hurt no one.
m.
One place that never changes in Auckland. Lovely staff, reliable icecream, good value. Step back in time worth enjoying
F.
With all the chain restaurants around Royal Oak it is nice to know a good old Kiwi burger, fries and shake joint is still here after more than 40 years! Nothing super fancy, just classic toasted sandwiches, burgers, fries (yum) milk and thick shakes. All reasonably priced and at a super convenient location at the centre of Royal Oak. Highly recommended.
M.
Iconic!! A regular stop for ice cream since a young girl in the late 70's and now it's a big favourite for our youngin's. Good okd kiwi burgers with 'real lettuce' 😳 served by friendly staff!
N.
I'm a bit bias when it comes to this place as I have find memories of Ollie's from when I was a child.
Still love the ice cream.
G.
Nice flavours...mango lassi ❤❤
V.
Friendly team working here and delicious milkshakes!
B.
Same Ollie's. Nostalgic. Nice ice cream. Friendly staff. Even at busy roundabout, parking is available nearby.
H.
Nice big ice cream ,I just wanted 2 flavor .
BUT ENJOYED IT & MY WIFE'S A BIG FAN OF THERE'S.
A.
Loved the atmosphere, gorgeous ice cream!
V.
Retro ice cream and light meals like burgers, toasted sandwiches, hot dogs and fries. Decor is from another era and atmosphere is as important as the ice cream. Lots of flavours and Sundaes like Banana Splits etc. A must do now and again!
A.
A classic choice destination for ice cream - a perfect dessert if you were recently made a happy boy (if you know I am saying) - I confess that my Ollie’s experience is limited to that delicious not too fussy deserts - a wide array of ice cream flavours and a personal fave of banana split and/or sundaes Cheap and cheerful and often busy which always a good sign. Staff invariably friendly and service efficient. Decor harks back to a simpler time where this would really really fancy in the 70s. I love it - long may Ollie’s remain an institution - spend your frozen dessert money here instead at the trendy imported places,
F.
I do enjoy this place, would give a 3.5 actually(half a point lost, as the prices are a little steep, but I only dine here say once a every 2-3months with my toddler, so it’s worth it in my eyes for my child’s happiness).
My only suggestions are the ordering and waiting area should somehow be made separate or clear signs telling people to ‘stand here’ to order and ‘stand here or receive orders’. I’ve come here for many many years & the amount of times I see people standing ‘in the line’ pretty much, with people all behind them & the whole time they weren’t even waiting to order. They were just standing ‘in the way’ waiting for their food. I always move right away from the ‘waiting to order’ area once I’m done, to also help with congestion, as if people continue to stand where they just ordered, it makes the lines end up out the door unnecessarily. Some people have kids etc, so they got to stand outside in the cold sometimes and with people smoking outside around them and the children etc. So the ‘Line’ is really my only issue here. Parking is ok(roadside im meaning) - lets just say, thank goodness KFC doesn’t actually take action on the towing of cars parking in their car park 😬
I see staff cleaning regularly so that’s a plus. Their service is prompt and straight forward- which is good to serve the amount of customers they get 👍
Thanks team
N.
I love this place, been coming here for 15 years , I always order the Ollie dog really delicious, priced well , very clean outlet, friendly staff, kids entertainment. Great ice cream.
F.
Standard burgers and ice cream. Fun ambience, but there's no air conditioning and it's very hot sitting in the sun indoors. Service for food is very slow in peak times (waited 30 min for two burgers).
s.
The customer service by the lady at the counter was awesome(sorry forgot to get her name). The best ice cream place in town. I love their mango ice cream and the perfect chocolate syrup.😍😍😍😍
R.
Amazing ice creams, so many options to choose. Best place for late night snacks.
J.
Nice ice creams. Still a fave
N.
Their burgers were superb and the service was great. Only downside is the ambiance in the restaurant. I would have preferred booths instead of the round table and the cold metallic stools.
A.
Has been a favourite stop for me and kids for 7 years. Traditional style ice-cream and takeaways. There are alternatives such as real fruit and Italian style gelato ice-cream places close by also.
S.
I love Ollies this place it harks back to days of Milk Bars when life was so much simpler. They have a great menu try the Ollie Dog & fries then finish off with one of their awesome range of icecreams. Guarantee you will keep coming back
g.
Stopped in here with the family after a hard day. The ice cream sundaes were delicious and the girls serving were lovely and helpful.
D.
Ordered Ollies burger, and seasoned wedges with sour cream - about $18 in total. Good burger, wedges ok. Have previously tried a milkshake but that time it didn't have much flavour. Desserts look amazing. Retro furniture, old arcade games at back of store. Can get busy in evenings with dessert cravers
F.
Old school ice creamery!! Awesome range of flavors
W.
Old-school burgers and many delicious flavours of ice-cream, sundaes, and milkshakes. There are also classic arcade games to play. Be warned that there is no toilet on-site if you visit with children, so think ahead.
F.
Everything is always good here except for 1 time I came here 15 minutes before closing to get a burger and the kids on the counter told me that they had closed the kitchen already. In my experiences kitchens don't close until closing unless advertised. Other than that best thickshakes in town.
N.
Ice cream is delicious but there is only one problem, especially the choc nut mud. When buying a double scoop ice cream, the double scoop tends to just fall over all over my clothes. The main reason this may happen is because the cone is very skinny and the cone may not be able to hold a double scoop ice cream. They should try to fix it buy getting a wider ice cream cone just like Movenpick.
J.
Really fun place to grab a quick bite. Theres a small arcade. Wish the street fighter vs xmen machine was working.
J.
Good old fashioned ice cream parlour, great for kids special occasions, we have celebrated a few of my children's birthdays there when younger. Consistent.
M.
I have been going to Ollie's for over 30 years. It hasn't really changed and consistently servers great ice cream flavours. Good job. Highly recommended
A.
Good ‘ol Ollies, consistent and reasonable. Super convenient locations d parking nearby. It’s a nostalgic thing.
C.
Yummy ice cream
J.
Basic little local ice cream and burger shop. They had a gluten free ice cream menu which was nice to see. Prices, service and food quality are decent.
A.
Ollie's is an institution in Royal Oak. Other businesses come and go while Ollie's keeps on busting out great ice cream year after year.
Always loads of cool flavours to choose from.
Go Ollie's!
H.
Personally feel it has become a bit overpriced especially when it comes to having a family outting. I suppose it is a reflection of increases of costs all around, will still be visiting here but be mindful the costs can quickly mount up with larger groups
M.
Great service and huge burgers! Good range of ice cream. Will come back soon!
J.
Love our visits to Ollie's. Brings back so many memories. Menu and decor hasn't changed and is perfect as it is. Favourite item is the single serve sundae.
D.
Excellent ice cream and friendly servers and nice atmosphere. I will come back!
S.
Easy parking, right outside the door if you are lucky enough or you need to park in the KFC carpark behind Ollie's.
Excellent range of icecream flavors, waffle cones are available as is chocolate dip. Selection of sundaes are available also, and a good takeaway/fast food selection.
You are able to eat in or take away- the interior has a 50s MilkBar look going on with white tables and red stools..
There are some old school video games for those that want a challenge or just to reminisce! Great for a young crowd, families and golden oldies alike - Ollie's is a crowd pleaser right across the board
P.
The Banana chococolate chip icecream is one of the best I've ever had. Highly recommend
N.
I only come here once a year but the ice cream is always fantastic 😋
A.
Best thick shakes ever. Definitely recommend 10/10 Mango Lassi & 9/10 for the Mint choc chip.
D.
Kiwi NZ Famous this Ice cream parlor is an Auckland Royal Oak Icon best Ice cream and burgers I have been going here for the Last 40 years and still a must when driving by as a smile last a moment but memories last a lifetime.
L.
Best icecream around. I've yet to try the burgers ... Worth a visit to ease your craving 👍
c.
This is such a welcoming place! I remember coming here as a kid, trying every ice cream I can. And just yesterday the staff thought someone stole the straw dispensers😂
F.
Nummy nummy. Taken here on a date treat by cousin. Wonderful service wonderful decadence and a good range of flavors and additions. Left feeling stuffed.... and satisfied... and very much loved.
L.
Great little mums and pops store. Love supporting local. However Lime milkshake was abit lacklustre
P.
Food is delicious, great selection of Ice Cream, costly so if your on a budget I don't recommend it. The restaurant is clean and the staff are friendly
K.
Wonderful place got everything you need to do with ice creams.. great location and timings too - open till 10 pm and 11 pm some days
J.
Memories! My parents grew up hanging out there, I did & now my son does. Love all food & ice cream, kids love the arcade zone.
V.
Nice to visit for some Ollification.
Last visited in 1982.
Wasn't disappointed.
C.
This place could be really really cool . I feel like the foods really over priced for what it is. But ice creams and milkshakes were 👌kids love it anyways .
A.
Big ice-cream, long queue, no rubbish bin inside.
J.
Reasonably good ice cream shop although ice cream could have been a bit more frozen.
P.
What can I say .... BEST ICE CREAM SHOP EVER!!!! I've been going there since 1976 .... wouldn't go anywhere else. A real Kiwi icon! 😊
G.
Ollie's is the best for OG desserts - ice cream sundaes, banana split, etc. It's such a cool retro diner, I love coming here. They do a mean chicken burger
T.
A good big serve of ice cream from a huge choice of flavours. The shop is 50s vintage I guess which is cool but could use a little spruce up.
W.
Not just another burger and Chips meal Unique and great atmosphere
G.
Vege patty is pretty terrible. Everything else is fine though :) change your vege burger guys!
D.
