Reviews of Mt Cook Alpine Salmon
M.
Very average compared to High Country Salmon down the road. They don’t sell sushi and the sashimi is made of very thin strips (<1cm) which are mostly skin so impossible to make sushi with, probably just the off cuts from the fillets. Can only presume the good reviews are due to the view of Aoraki but if you’re looking for better salmon then stop at HCS in Twizel.
V.
The salmon tastes amazing. We bought a piece to cook at our accommodation and loved it. The prices are very reasonable and so many different sizes available.
D.
Beautiful place with crystal clear water! Stunning views!
F.
Great location to stop by and enjoy the fresh salmon
流.
The salmon farm offers delicious salmon dishes, as well as fresh frozen salmon for take-out. The scenery of the lake and the mountains is very beautiful. The salmon sashimi has a super-Q sweet taste. There is unlimited soy sauce and Japanese mustard on the spot. There is a pond of salmon outside. Feeding pond, you can get your own feed and donate at your own expense
Sitting on the lake boat house and eating delicious salmon dishes, while enjoying the scenery is really enjoyable 😍
M.
Nice spot for a taste of the local salmon with a view over the blue lake and up to Mount Cook. Large car park and public toilets. Recommended.
G.
Great place to stop, good priced meals and nicely presented. Feed the salmon while you have a coffee . Good prices for takeaway fillets, bring achilli bag so they don't thaw.
S.
Heaven on earth - can’t use words to describe. It’s just so beautiful
M.
A little disappointed as everything was quite different from what I've heard. No raw salmon was available and I can only assume it's because of the COVID19 (Staffs never explained the reason). They should've put a notice on their website and let the vosotors know what's availanle and what's not.
R.
Nice chill stop. Lots of sushi and sashimi available as well as cooked salmon meals. Also have lots of chilled and frozen salmon available to take home.
I.
Better knife skills than High Country salmon, better grade soy sauce and wasabi (prepackaged but it’s the better grade ones) though they serve just salmon and that’s it. No hot food.
Great view of Lake Pukaki from the shop.
PS: Their coffee is absolutely horrid. Stick to salmon and you’re safe.
I read the reviews of both before coming and I understand why people said the salmon sashimi is better - pricing is typically 11 for a small box but the slice, cut, grade, cleanliness, all beats High Country.
It’s not a farm but more of a pit stop just to eat salmon. Staffs ain’t particularly friend either, in both shops.
c.
Probably one of my most favourite place in southern NZ. Fresh Salmon, great view and awesome waters! Was here twice on my trip and always stopped to get salmon, BYO wine and u can have a wonderful picnic. It was fun to get down and swim in the turquoise water. Will definitely do it again!
K.
To be honest, I expected a little more from this place after reading the reviews. Salmon sashimi was $10 for 100g and I thought some weren’t very fresh though we went at 5pm when it was closing. Caviar was okay. I guess one good thing here is definitely the view as you get to look at lake Pukaki and eat your food. Toilet facilities around the shop too.
N.
Fresh ever salmon 🍣 I had in my life so far. Really enjoyed their sashimi with soy sauce and wasabi along with the beautiful view of lake pukaki. Easy takeaway
R.
The view from this place is pretty amazing. The water is a beautiful milky aqua colour and you can see Mount Cook from here. The salmon is pretty similar to the supermarket salmon except it is more fresh. There is also a gift shop that offers lots of souvenirs such as fridge magnets, caps and t-shirts. It is also close to lots of places like Mount Cook, Alpine Lavender farm and lots of amazing lakes
G.
Awesome location with amazing lake and mountain views around, whilst having coffee or snacks.
I.
Nice cosy spot with a great view of Lake Pukaki. Perfect place for a stopover just before the drive up toward Mt Cook and salmon sashimi was really fresh. Has simple drinks and other snacks on sale. Also has public restrooms nearby.
R.
What could be better than an incredible view, delicious salmon, and a fantastic roady. This is worth 10 stars.
n.
It's basically located near lake pukaki view point. A very big sign board there written as fresh salmon. You will see it when you on your way from tekapo to Mt Cook/wanaka, or the other way round.
The staff is friendly and lovely.
The salmon there is really really good. Especially the smoked salmon. We bought few packages and we only open the last package like 5 days later, it's still fresh and good. But we do keep in fridge.
The sashimi is really great. I'm personally don't eat any sashimi in my home country as I really scared of the taste but this is really good.
Highly recommended!
M.
We love the fresh salmon served in store! Complete with wasabi and ginger for the full experience. The view is excellent. Plenty of carpark areas and public restrooms are clean.
N.
Loved this place, feeding the salmon, the fresh air, and that it is free to go in and feed them, a small donation is optional too for the salmon food. The food was yummy that we purchased from the cafe n our seating outside was perfect, good toilet facilities too
B.
An interesting stop to make along State Highway 8 between Lake Tekapo and Twizel is the Mount Cook Alpine Salmon shop / Lake Pukaki Visitor Centre at the south end of the lake.
Here you can try freshwater King Salmon products which can be consumed here at the lake or elsewhere if you need to keep moving on to other destinations. Ask for ice packs if you don't have a cooler with you.
During our visit, we tried the sashimi set (NZ$10) that was pretty good. We also bought the Salmon Pate (NZ$12) that we enjoyed over a few mornings along with rice crackers bought elsewhere. This was a very good spread, something we quite enjoyed. Would happily purchase the pate again.
Note that this is technically a visitor centre as well. The building structure next to the Salmon shop has interesting information about the area and a nice indoor view of the lake. There is also an interesting Tahr Statue just beside the shop.
At this stop, you'll find a fair sized car park, public toilets and good views of the lake and Mount Cook in the background.
T.
Came to this place while driving to Lake Tekapo. So glad we made a stop here. The sashimi salmon is very fresh and yummy. Good views of the mountains and lake from this place as well.
Highly recommended while travelling up and down the highway. Good place for a break and also enjoy the fresh salmon!
P.
The quality of the salmon is good enough with reasonable price. 38 nzd for 500gm! It’s a little bit more expensive than two years ago, when we first visited New Zealand. Still good quality, and the view of the lake is amazing!
B.
Fantastically Fresh Fish!
Some of the best Salmon I have ever had, decent portion sizes and it tastes so dam good. Plus being able to see the lake it was farmed on whilst eating it is a real bonus.
G.
Not my best photo but great salmon here. You can buy small portions of sashimi right up to whole fish hot smoked, cold smoked or fresh.
R.
The salmon tasted amazing just like it was fresh out of the water and it had a nice creamy texture.
S.
The lake view with alpine is fantastic! Picnic tables are available, recommend to lunch over this spot while enjoying the pretty view. There is a shop selling salmon from the nearby salmon farm, only simple coffee and snacks available, need to prepare your own food.
A.
$10 for 100 grams of salmon sashimi - reasonably priced and tasted so fresh! Ate the salmon too quickly and forgot to take a photo of it, rather took a photo of the magnificent view from where we sat. I had to get another 100 grams to go. For future visitors, you are able to take away more salmon and they provide ice gel packs to keep the salmon fresh.
s.
Nice place to stop & take in the view.
You can order salmon from the cafe with very nice staff & helpful
M.
Had salmon here overlooking the lake on a really cold winter morning, and it was such epic views but way too cold to sit outside. Thought the prices were OK but was hoping to be cheaper since we're at the source. Nonetheless, the salmon was good paired with some chogochujang which they sell in store!
P.
Very delicious Salmon paste. Go early or they might be sold out. We missed out on the salmon sashimi and salmon.
H.
The best location and the salmon was super soft and nice ive ever tried
K.
Salmon sashimi was incredible! Fresh and amazing value for money. The eating area outside the shop has heavenly views of Lake Tekapo
I.
Most people go for the 100g/500g ones. I was afraid of getting sick of it, so what we did was to purchase 100g first, sit down on the bench outside to enjoy the view and the wind. If it is still not enough purchase anther 100g, coz really no point to stuff yourself with 500g at one go:)
H.
Great view. Every time I get there the lake will always blow me away.....
T.
The best Salmon pieces in NZ. We stopped for snacks before going to Mt Cook. The outdoor sitting is amazing. Facing Mt Cook and Lake Pukaki, eating Mt Cook alpine salmon, marvelous.
B.
Fresh Salmon sales including Salmon Sashimi to eat and enjoying view or to go.
Reasonable price.
J.
The view is amaxing and salmon tasted great, but too be honest couldn't tell the difference between this and the pre packed salmon brought at a store. Bring things to eat with the salmon.
C.
The view overlooking the lake pukaki and mt.cook is just awesome. The salmon is so fresh and alive! Highly recommeded! I came here 3 times during my honeymoon.
K.
The freshness of the salmon was very good. I was able to eat while looking at the wonderful view from the table in front of the store. It was a great experience.
A.
The visitors centre is located along with cafe where you can eat freshly caught and cooked Salmon fish.
M.
Great place to stop for toilet break and enjoy the view of Mt Cook or something to eat and coffee but a bit out of my budget 😀
써.
Most Favorite place in South island. You can have fresh salmon shasimi front of beautiful Lake pukaki
D.
The salmons sashimi tasted really good and very views while having a lunch right before or after your adventures to mount cook!
C.
Nice place offering very fresh and cheap salmon. We tried the sashimi and smoke salmon, both also very nice. Great place to have picnic lunch or dinner with salmon in front of the beautiful blue Lake Pukaki.
K.
Delicious fresh salmon and helpful staff who will assist you to select which cut is best for you.
A.
Best little stop to enjoy some delicious fresh salmon with an incredible lookout to Mt Cook over Lake Pukaki. You can get pre-sliced salmon sashimi served with chopsticks and soy sauce/wasabi to enjoy outside on the picnic tables.
L.
Good to stop by for 1) fresh sashimi salmon 2) photos of Lake Pukaki. However note it’s a small shop with no kitchen hence no other hot food option Nor fish feeding/fish farm photo experience etc.
C.
Fish still fresh and tastes good
But staff needs to improve their attitude
How come we spent 35 dollars buying the whole box but only gave our a pair of chopsticks? We are three people! They refused to give us more chopsticks! That really annoyed customers
s.
This shop is located in the good location where your can enjoy your salmon and view of Lake pukaki at the same time. However this is just a salmon shop not a salmon farm.
J.
Been in Queenstown for the past 5 years, everytime I go on a road trip passing pukaki, I always stop here and grab some delicious salmon sashimi
Must visit in South!
S.
The lovely lady behind the counter, was so patient and helpful, guiding me to get the Salmon that was going to be the best for me!
She also made sure I had somewhere cold enough to store my purchase, until it was consumed and offered me ice, if I needed it!
The Salmon was absolutely delicious!
Highly recommend Mt Cook Alpine Salmon as a must stop and buy 🤩
T.
First time as a backpacker I drove by thinking "wow, this is some expensive salmon." Second and third time visiting years later with a bit more NZD and this is the best salmon sashimi I have had (better than Japan and Norway). Used to charge for soya sauce and they don't anymore so that's nice too!
R.
Beautiful location. Quite an expensive fish even if the Salmon is probably less than kilometers away in the lake.
D.
Was the first salmon that my friend tried and we cooked and amazing rice for dinner as well with salmon, onions and sprouts. Thank you. :)
C.
Fresh Salmon but small portion. Great view for sitting outdoor.
J.
Tried both sashimi and filet, we loved the taste, Freshwater Salmon is amazing!
W.
Fresh sashimi stop. Also have smoked salmon and gift shop. Very small place though
J.
Nice to stop there. The salmon we bought was delicious 😋 and the staff was friendly.
O.
Great little shop right on the lake dam. Fantastic views and lovely fresh salmon
C.
Frankly the best place i ever been given the scenery and fresh salmon, go on time or it closes at 5pm sharp
J.
Neat little place to stop otw to Mount Cook. The salmon was extremely fresh and worth every dollar. Ginger beer was great as well. Not to forget the gorgeous views. Highly recommended!
J.
Nice salmon sashimi with great view of the alps.
C.
Always enjoy my little stop and take in this view.
Just having coffee before I go off on my road trip again.
Amazing view
B.
Very fresh Tasty salmon!
L.
It was buy 1 get 1 free box of sashimi when we went around 1:30pm - so $10 for 200g of high quality sashimi! One of the previous reviews states that there are cooked dishes - this is not true and that's referring to High Country Salmon (their photo is of the wrong place!). This is more of a retail store rather than a cafe.
Y.
So-so salmon. Staff a little unfriendly. Bring your own soy sauce. Great spot to snack sashimi and take photos.
j.
A tourist attraction where you can see some of the salmon in the farm & cafe features salmon in the menu. Quite expensive but I guess salmon is expensive anywhere. You can catch your own and that looked like fun as we watched a young lad catch one he was pretty excited.
S.
Great salmon stop but bring your own spoon
s.
The best salmon I never tried in my life. High quality, so good. But! But!But never ever try the coffee there, it sucks. The worst coffee I tired in my life. Losing one star for the coffee. 一定要吃三文鱼!太好吃了!咖啡千万不要喝,难喝到要死。
r.
This is a highly recommend pit stop for all salmon sashmi lovers!! Fresh farmed salmon from the local surrounding farm! We drove to Lake Pukaki from Tekapo..just for the Salmon 😉 and yes go for the big 500gms of fresh yummy goodness😊
S.
A must stop for some fresh salmon. Well worth the drive.
李.
Best salmon sashimi in New Zealand. $10 for 100g box and $35 for 500g box (limited). Although is not that cheap, it is definitely worth.
R.
Nice view. But not much food offer.
J.
Fantastic views. Salmon is a bit expensive at $100/kg ... To be enjoyed in small quantities 😁 My son enjoyed the info hut attached to it
G.
Fresh tasty salmon I've ever had!! Do not miss it.Also a fabulous scenery you will face!
O.
We taste Fresh King salmon sashimi there, big portion great value。 enough wasabi and soy sauce。 limited seat inside the shop。 you can dine in or take away。
L.
The salmon bought here is not made on the spot, and there is a dining area outside the shop. Should consider to stopby here for the salmon.
S.
Definitely stop by if you are near Mount Cook, the views are worth it alone - salmon is well worth it, very popular for good reason
l.
Alpine Salmon needs to put a big sign on both sides of the road, as it is not easy to find this place and can easily missed.
They have lost so many potential sales! As there is no clear signs that people could also eat and buy salmon at that 'parking/rest area' to view the beautiful scenery.
They should learn from High Country Salmon just up the road, which is very successful and clearly visible from the road.
A.
Fresh salmon and if the weather is good you can grab them eat by the lake and enjoy the scenery.
V.
Salmon is very fresh. I like to sit on the stone next to the lake and enjoy my salmon. Recommend this place for a rest stop.
S.
Really lovely fresh King Salmon sashimi
E.
Beautiful lake and really good salmon.
I recommend you should taste salmon!!
T.
A small shop selling salmon. Take away and eat at the bench outside. Car park is large.
F.
The salmon might appear pricy at the first glance but it's totally worth it and really fresh . Best sashimi I had so far in NZ.
W.
Worth a stopover to see lake pukaki as well. Absolutely gorgeous on a sunny day where you can eat sashimi by some benches near the lake
C.
BEST Salmon, Oysters & Scallops. Bought 3 dozens each to bring up to Mt Cook stay. Staff are hospitable & helpful. Price is cheap. Highly recommend to anyone. Will continue to support if ever return to this town again. Choko matei kudasai ... till we meet again.
L.
Reasonable price and really nice salmon sashimi🐟 not much bench or table for eating but you can just seat on the rocks and enjoy Lake Tekapo and nice sashimi
P.
Truly a scenic lookout.
Should definitely stop here and spend some time.
J.
Very friendly staff. Gorgeous views. Lovely salmon
X.
Salmon is good-melt in the mouth kind. It is expensive indeed, for the taste and unbeatable scenary
j.
Lovely king salmon and great prices
A.
Best salmon in the South Island!! Price is great especially if you arrive when they are discounting something. But the quality is even better. Just fantastic.
Y.
Used to serve bigger tray of salmon sashimi, but apparently not anymore so we had to buy 4 small trays l. Nevertheless, salmon was fresh as always.
M.
Freindly staff great views and fresh salmon
J.
Fresh local salmon sashimi you can enjoy next to the beauty of Lake Pukaki with a view of Mt Cook.
A.
Stunning location and we'll worth the druve
C.
Beautiful salmon at very good prices.
T.
View, toilet, salmon - good spot to stop!
A.
Nice and attractive the kids really enjoyed the place.
L.
Mount Cook is the immediate view. And if you look at Mount Cook at the start of the sunset, you'll get a really pretty view. And if you're going to buy Salmon, buy it here.
B.
The sashimi and smoked salmon was fresh and yummy, nice view of lake Pukaki from here.
L.
They sell the best and freshest salmon here! We are only 2 person and we finished all the 500g of salmon, which cost us about $30 only. Easily a must-have if you are around the area. Their store is located just beside the road. And you can dine outdoor behind their store with the magnificent view of lake pukaki reflecting Mount Cook on its calm surface. Definitely the best dining experience!
T.
Great and fresh salmon!
B.
Best vantage point for viewing Lake Pukaki and if you're lucky enough to be there on a clear day, Mount Cook in the background.
R.
They sell fresh water salmon, also hot and cold salmon. They taste good. They also have a room with a story of Maori inside. The view of lake pukaki from here was amazing. You can drink a coffee or simply just take some pictures from the side of the cafe
Y.
I was looking forward to visiting Mount Cook Alpine Salmon shop by the beautiful Lake Pukaki. Very friendly service and got some amazing (hot and cold) smoked salmon and caviar that all of our group enjoyed so much. I am using the Mount Cook Alpine Salmon in my business in Melbourne and I strongly believe that it is the best you can get in this part of the world. However, i have to say that in our second visit we got disappointed to find the place closed at 5:10 pm. Guys you should update your opening hours on Google!
Z.
Fresh salmon sashimi and smoked salmon. Huge saving if you buy bigger portion.
B.
Good salmon, great view of the beautiful lake. Soy sauce packaging was cute but overpriced.
S.
The best fresh salmon ever 😃😍
A.
The salmon sashimi was freshly chopped, you can taste the sweetness and freshness in it. Amazing!
S.
Great place to stop with a great view, great priced fresh salmon, with hot drinks and souvenirs available. Highly Recommend!!!
S.
Wonderful place in NZ with fresh salmon. It's right next to the water so you can buy and go right in front and enjoy the salmon with breathtaking views of the lake. When I went they had a buy one get one free deal so got twice as lucky. Salmon was wonderful and with the view makes it even better per my photo.
H.
Nice place good taste salmon
T.
We bought some salmon fillets and hot smoked salmon and both were delicious. Note the only food you can eat on the spot is sashimi and smoked salmon, so not a good lunch spot if you don’t like those things. Views are incredible though :)
C.
Fresh and tender, a must try when you are here! Better bring your own soy sauce;)
J.
Go here early. Fresh salmon is sold out pretty quick. Smoked, hot and cold sold here. Also coffee and ice creams.
B.
You must stop here for some salmon sashimi if you're a fan. Super fresh. Comes with wasabi and soy sauce. You can also buy lemon.
D.
I'd eat here every week, or more often, if this were in my hometown. The salmon sashimi was wonderfully fresh and delicious. Despite being a tourist stop, the price ($10 NZD) was extremely reasonable for the generous portion provided. The lemon ginger toddy was also excellent. If you like salmon, this place is a must stop on your way around Lake Pukaki!
E.
We stopped over to buy some salmon. It was fresh - cooked for dinner. Delicious. We didn't get the sashimi as we were are going for a long drive. But it seemed like a popular option.
Y.
Best salmon sashimi in New Zealand. There are picnic tables by the lake or in bad weather, they have seating inside the shop.
K.
Nice and fresh salmon. Gorgeous view too.
D.
Awesome 👌
B.
Very fresh salmon sashimi and a beautiful lake.
F.
We tried the smoked salmon. Absolutely love it. I usually don't like seafood, but the smoked salmon is fresh and not fishy at all. We ordered another one for later in hotel. Highly recommended.
J.
Yummy salmon and the perfect view of Mount Cook across Lake Pukaki.
J.
If nothing else, the $10 salmon sashimi is worth a ride here. It's fresh and I can have 3 packets to myself and enjoy the view of lake Pukaki standing. The wasabi can be a bit stronger imo but otherwise this and the scenery you get here is a match in Pukaki.
N.
Okay so quite the busy place. Expect a lot of tourists and traffic around this area. The water is so blue it's as if the sky and water are one! Great spots to get them selfies and scenic shots as well. Grab a little bit of salmon while your there, and the salmon farms are also pretty neat.
B.
All I can say is that it's not bad here.
B.
7/02/2016 - they've relocated from the old tin shed next to the Meridian energy water canal to this site. It is way better with the priceless Alpine view and also, lots of parking spaces 🅿.
The shop is clean and tidy, and the products are sealed in vacuum sealed bags. There are ready to eat fresh salmon sashimi.
Reasonable prices for the products.
There is a public toilet nearby and a small Meridian Energy "museum" talking about the history and process of power generation.
Would I go back? Yes ☺
J.
Best salmon I had for a long time, view is always awesome
H.
Not so fresh for the salmon but the view was super 👍
S.
Delicious salmon that is super fresh. Great view of the lake. Friendly staff and prompt service despite being busy. Great pricing. Fairly good range of products.
G.
Really fresh sashimi salmon with an incredible view. Such an unreal place to stop by and have lunch. Visiting here is an absolute must. Wish they sold the salmon in sushi rolls or with some sort of salad to freshen it up and give more life/depth to the sashimi. It got quite sickening eating it on its own and the crackers they sold didn't pair well with it. Overall, an amazing place to stop at when visiting the South Island.
I.
Little cute pitstop / shop on the way from Lake Takepo to Mt Cook. Great Salmon. 😋yum.
D.
This may be the best salmon in New Zealand. Good weather can also see the MT Cook
A.
Excellent salmon. Had a packet while enjoying the view
L.
Unfortunately the shop was closed on my visit due to renovations. I have been here before on my yearly pilgrimage to the south island and always purchase salmon which is the best I have ever eaten. It is a small shop with a good selection of salmon and other items that would compliment..the staff are very helpful and friendly.
W.
Awesome tasting salmon.
Knowledgeable staff
A.
Amazing views and fresh salmon. Was a sure 5 star before, but the price more than doubled ($30 for 2 > $35 for one) since my last visit in July and asked staff if Salmon is more common in winter, she just said "I don't know I've only been here a month"...thanks
R.
The view is so beautiful and Salome Sashimi is so fresh so we bought three box
J.
Just one look and you can see how fresh this salmon is. Superb quality salmon
J.
The freshest sashimi I've ever had! $30 for 500 grams was so worth it. Bring your own soy sauce and wasabi otherwise you will have to purchase it there for a small price. The Salmon Farm is not there but a little drive down from the shop. Would recommend eating 10/10.
J.
Nice salmon but not really somewhere to eat comfortably. Small selection of items for purchase. I would recommend you go to another salmon farm where you can actually see the salmon fish farms and feed them. We went when it was raining so couldn’t sit outside or enjoy the view.
x.
Salmon is definitely Good . But the service of the 2 lady is bad. Attitude is bad, not friendly at all. Trying to clean up the table and can't find where is the rubbish bin, then I ask the lady in long hair, being told I have to wait for the rubbish bin to come back with unfriendly face. After the bin come back and I about to leave, expect to throw the rubbish then continue with my trip, then being ask to throw my rubbish at the big bin opposite the parking in this super windy weather instead of the bin in front of me by the short hair lady. This salmon shop is perfect, except for the customer service. If you are in a rush to the next place, please bring your own rubbish bin.
O.
Buy one get one free at the time I visited on May 2018. But was unable to see the salmon farm in action as it is just only a store selling the salmon products. I would recommend u go slightly further down south to another salmon farm where u could get to see a live* salmon farm and taste the fresh salmon.
C.
The place is remarkable both for the spectacular views and the freshness of the fish you can get. We were fortunate enough to get the buy 1 take 1 promo for the salmon sashimi style which was 500 g buy 1 take 1 for a total of 1 kg for only 35$
E.
Delicious! We always get salmon whenever we visit mt cook. We got some rice from twizel before getting our salmon.
X.
The salmon is really fresh and nice, it's a best place to visit on your way to mt cook or lake pukaki, the view is amazing.
just bit disappointed with the lady on the customer service not sure maybe she is to tired or the weather is too cold but she seem annoyed when we come and didn't really (what we feel) want to serve us. So in the end we only spend $30 for salmon and also need to purchase the sauce and wasabi.
Z.
Unbelievably fresh salmon. Make sure to bring your own cups and a bottle of white wine to sit outside in the picnic tables to pair. The salmon is made to take away or eat outside. No dine in option. Should you wish to take away home , they have special packaging to accommodate up to 8 hour trips.
R.
Enjoy fresh salmon with a great view of Lake Pukaki and Mount Cook
F.
$35 for 500g of fresh sashimi is a good deal. Staff was helpful during our visit. If you need to takeaway, they provide ice packs to keep it fresh as you drive back. Would have rated it 5 stars if they didn't charge extra for soy sauce and wasabi. The amount of soy sauce provided by them just isn't enough for 500g of sashimi we purchased. Its a shame really.
E.
Nice view to have fresh salmon sashimi.
Price was reasonable and staffs were friendly.
R.
A reasonable selection of salmon but prices are better at the farm in Twizel.
J.
Fresh yummy salmon sashimi! Texture is so smooth. It may seems expensive, it's actually reasonably priced compared to Sydney.
The sales lady was really nice, gave us information on how the salmon was farmed, how the power is generated from the water and told us that hot smoked salmon means that the fish is fully cooked unlike cold smoke salmon
Y.
Salmon was nice, but not really the most comfortable location. Could have extras like a sandwich or bagel with cream cheese or something. Also drink options were limited. Had both the sashimi and the smoked salmon, and sat outside on the picnic tables with a magnificent view of lake pukaki and the mountains surrounding it. The plane has a lot more potential to improve.
J.
Great visitors centre, really friendly.
Spectacular views of lake Pukaki and Aoraki.
Not so sure the actual salmon farming is so sustainable thought.
L.
Good quick stop to and from Aoraki/Mt Cook. $10 for 100gr salmon sashimi! Super cheap and fish is fresh. Nice view of Lake Pukaki at the back
W.
Lady's are lovely & excellent service. Plenty of salmon for lunch.
F.
Good quality salmon, could use a splash of fresh lemon juice, lemon wedges are not available at the store, perhaps bring your own. Store is situated right by the lake, beautiful view.
b.
You can buy fresh salmon.
S.
Not much to see and do here unfortunately a bit boring. Some nice salmon for sale ,albeit a bit pricey for product at source.
N.
One of the lovely relaxing retreat resort, walking distance to good shopping area. Big comfortable rooms have beautiful view of natural surrounding & have good variety of food & drinks.. relaxing night clear sky view all free of cost is highlight point.
S.
Great salmon, wonderful location for a quick and super-fresh sushi.
J.
The salmon sashimi taste much better than the high country salmon, the seating areas has amazing view outside the shop.
Bad point is the shop has less food option :)
D.
I don't normally eat salmon, but it tasted really good here. It would be better if they had variety like sandwiches, etc. Spectacular view of Mt Cook of course.
O.
Amazing salmon, make sure you buy even a small pack to taste it! Coffee is not the best, I do not recommend it. The ladies at the counter are very nice, friendly, with good customer service.
S.
A good place for a quick stop over for a coffee and get some salmon.
R.
Fresh salmon! Yummm! Great views of lake pukaki.
R.
Freshly packed fish (from what I could tell) and you can learn about the cuts that come from a salmon (much like beef cuts) which is fun. There is indeed a difference between hot and cold smoked salmon!
R.
$10 for a good portion of delicious salmon sashimi? Yes please!!! Great value and great quality.
A.
Its a good shop to buy fresh water Salmon.
Perfect Sushimi and Nice scenery of Lake Pukaki.

Good spot to stop on the way to Mt Cook from Lake Tekapo! The view of the lake it sits next to was amazing. You can buy sashimi and smoked salmon and you should ! It was very tasty.
L.
If you love Salmon, you absolutely have to taste their Salmon Sashimi. Sitting just in front of the Pukaki Lake, a bright and vibrant azure lake in front of Mount Cook! One of the most memorable stops in South New Zealand.
B.
Fresh salmon shashimi which tastes delicious. Getting to enjoy freshly cut salmon beside the marvelous blue lake was quite amazing. Expect a lot of tourists here.
A.
Probably the best sashimi I've ever had. The quality of the salmon was amazing. They should really expand their offer to sandwiches/bagels, they'd kick ass.
D.
Wished this place was more of a restaurant than selling packaged salmon. However, it’s worth a visit. The views are beautiful and the salmon is delicious
z.
fresh salmon besides the blue lake
J.
I loved eating the fresh salomon. Really tasty and good texture. Only the Prince 10 NZD for 100 gramm was way to hight. its 100 NZD per Kilo
M.
Nice for a stop. Had a feed, fed the salmon. Bonus fun. Food is of good quality.
I.
We bought a cup of coffee and a box of king salmon to eat. I think it's the best salmon in NZ, but little pricey.
Anyway, I recommend you to buy salmon here instead of other salmon farm.
R.
Good place to stop on the way to Auckland especially if you like salmon. Can get coffee there too. Awesome views of Mt Cook.

Beautiful place to stop :)
リ.
quick salmon bites available here. 10nzd for a small portion and 30nzd for a large one. good place a break before heading to mount cook. アオラキへいくならいい休憩所です。queue can get quite long due to tourist bus and even the toilet.
R.
Very good fresh salmon vacuum packed for your convenience, or take away small packs of ready to taste salmon. Fresh water salmon sashimi with wasabi and soya sauce that will tempt your taste buds.
S.

Yummy salmon! Highly recommended!
D.
The taste and freshness of the salmon is better than high land. However, its variety is limited, unlike high land, and it closes earlier.
R.
Really fresh and delicious sashimi for a reasonable price. Fully recommend it to people who like eating raw fish.
S.
Crowd of people and bottom of the box salmon was not as good as the top layer of box(500g). I recommend every single piece of salmon can cut thinner.
A.
Freshwater king salmon sashimi with a gorgeous view of Lake Pukaki. $10 for 100 grams
Y.
$35 for 500g of fresh salmon with amazing views of Lake Pukaki. A must stopover when traveling from Wanaka to Mt Cook and Tekapo!

FRESH salmon from the farm, in the rushing center of a local mountain stream between lakes. Also one more good place to stop for photos.

Amazing fresh salmon at stunningly affordable prices. The salmon had a wonderful light flavor.
K.

U.
Amazing view. Must stop if you're passing by.
C.
One doesn't expect to have some of the best salmon ever at a road side rest stop and then you find a place like this. Outstanding salmon.
S.
Can try fishing at the river just outside the shop. You might get lucky with a couple of salmon that has escaped from the farm. Wasn't cheap but there are some nice place to camp around there.

Friendly, thoughtful service personnel packed 2 cute bags of ice for the smoked salmon I bought when I told them I was not eating the salmon yet.
P.
You guys are lucky with your setting. Very well over priced! The information centre without staff is more friendly.
A.
Staff members are friendly, and parking spaces are plenty though there are lots of tour buses stops by. Their salmons are grown in one of the lakes but not on this site; hence, they'll cut and pack the salmon in the factory first before delivered to their shop at this location. Prices are quite reasonable for the quality, and the view is marvelous. Easily best place to buy & enjoy New Zealand salmon.
E.
Absolutely delicious salmon. Manuka honey and mustard smoked.

K.
Lucky to have a good clear day as we passed through. Stunning views.
N.
The salmon is normal, not that tasty but the view is really nice from that place
J.
Shop no longer here. Go to Lake Pukaki visitor centre instead. Sign at entrance to road is a little small and says shop relocated to Lake Pukaki, which you may figure is OK since that's what you're driving along up to the canal and the shop. It's not. Should say it's relocated to the visitor centre, and tell you to keep heading down SH 8 towards Twizel.
A.
A must if you are salmon lover. Nice views from the outdoor eating area.
I.
